I do like the First Class seats on these Pendolinos. I've sat in them a couple of times whilst in standard premium. However, I much prefer the unrefurbished Pendolinos to the refurb.
Great trip report, informative with all the details without the faff.. I traveled on the Virgin Pendilino way back in around 2003! I found them a technological miracle but a little hard riding.. service onboard was great and really enjoyed the journey

8:04 - first time I've ever heard that about Avanti - usually it's dial-up speeds 🤣
Used to do this in the 90s in virgin trains, I think it’s very updated now but I really don’t care for the Wi-Fi onboard trains, I still prefer to use my cd player and my Walkman on train trips

Which first class coach do you prefer - Coach J or K? I prefer one of the single seats in Coach K, more or less because of the footrest!
I prefer coach J to be honest, more seat selection and I often find it a little too cramped in K, there’s also a lot of staff in there making it a little more crowded. The foot rests are nice however!

I be looking forward to seeing the Avanti West Coast Class 805 and Class 807 to start operation from next year. And hopefully that the seats on those new trains will be comfortable.

@@bus3s Yes, almost certainly. Isn't it funny how "progress" always makes things worse. Like Avanti taking over from Virgin: another example of this!

Or do what it seems everyone else dose anyway book a normal ticket and sit in first class never been asked to moved once, Did a trip from Preston to Grimsby via Manchester and wasn't even asked once if I should be in there
Would’ve told me to move if I didn’t have a first class ticket, always check tickets on avanti in first class, never had them not
Virgin always checked tickets (freeloaders, aka thieves, need to be put in their place), which strictly speaking is before a magistrate.
@@grangetowncardiff6935 Never been checked once for a ticket when I go there, its the same at Warrington bank quay on a change over to Wales they just don't seem to ask, maybe because the stations have self checking machines but there easy enough to get buy so who knows 🤷♂
Avanti always check tickets especially if theres a 1st class service being provided. Not to mention avanti doesnt run the route that you sat in 1st class. Preston to Grimsby via manchester. Preston to Manchester is mostly Northern services which dont have 1st class. Manchester to Grimsby is pretty much TPE. TPE are pretty laid back compared to avanti, and yeah I have used some of TPE's services and theres usually no one checking tickets on the services going through Sheffield, suspect its due to no 1st class service being provided.
@@tonywilkins6090 Obviously your trying to be a smart a** here with your comment, if you actually looked it up they do offer a first class service Preston (Lancs) [PRE] to Grimsby Town [GMB] - via Manchester Oxford Road [MCO] - First Class Anytime
