If you start from zero, my advice is to find a French teacher near the place you live or online, to get the basics, then after a certain level, you can self-study. But if you can't do that, there are plenty of ressources available on the internet. Watch videos on UA-cam, watch French movies or series (with French subtitles), or even French cartoons for kids, listen to French songs, read easy French books, try to practice with French people, on OmeTV for example. With the vocabulary, you probably noticed that for some words, you remember them after hearing them one time, but other words you can't remember them after hearing them ten times. For some people, writing the vocabulary in a notebook is really helpful to remember the words. Some people prefer to listen several times to the same words, or use flashcards.
