Wow! Fantastic !! I think every young boy in New Zealand back in the 70's wanted to be a truck driver in the States like Sonny and Will, - I know I certainly did. Still got the Movin On model in its original box, which nearly 50 years later, (cringe...) I "just haven't" got around to doing yet! Well done, Kelly, and please Mark, keep us in the loop to progress of the most iconic truck ever. PS: Dalhoff and King were the NZ agents for Kenworth back in those days, and their adverts from memory only ever featured during the Movin On show's, which suggests it wasn't just us "young dreamers" watching either...lol

Yes. All credit goes to the Osbornes and their ability to source rare, hard to get parts for Sundance. Before he agreed to take on the project, Kelly asked me to send him the original build sheet to determine if it was even possible. Once he told me it was doable and he had much of what was needed on hand, we started the project. It’s been exciting following the restoration. I hope fans of the show will appreciate the effort. I know how hard it is to find some parts for these old trucks & appreciate the fact that he wanted to keep this truck all original to the build sheet. Great effort & not a cheap one either! Great stuff! It’s great to have people in the right places to help get even the littlest things like a Cummins sticker/plate done! I wasn’t sure that the VT 903 was even a Cummins engine. O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Yeah, the VT 903 was a Cummins engine. I’m shocked that Kenworth didn’t contact you on this piece of history. Like the song says, “It Takes A Special Breed To Be A Truck Drivin Man”. It sure took one to drive this one! I knew that many trucks back then didn’t have front brakes, but they should have! I appreciate the originality, but someone was smart enough to add power steering at some point. Did it have Center Point Steering? Hey, you’re the builder, and I’m just another person who would love to get behind the wheel! Fantastic walk around! Tremendous Truck & teamwork! Gonna put in an episode of Movin On today for sure! Wow that's beautiful I was 5 when that show came out, loved it. It's interesting on the original truck in the TV show and Movie the gross weight on the door said 78,160 or close to that not 80,000. It shows the progression of weights, longer and wider trailers until we've reached 53' 102". In the 70's I believe 40' & 42' 96" was the common size and that was thought to be big.

    • @markstracener

This special truck went to work, and it was worked hard, after it left Hollywood. It was modified and “improved” to keep up with technology and keep itself useful. While these modifications are expensive and challenging to reverse, and as some commentators say “crazy”, I think it’s worthwhile considering the significance of this specific truck. It’s being rebuilt to exact specs of the original build sheet. When it leaves Wyoming after all the mechanical restoration, it will be repainted and original decals, GVW, S PRUITT, etc., will be in place.

@@dand3975 season one trucks were 13 speeds. Yes, this truck was formerly Paul Sagehorn’s, who also has the BJ cabover. Claude Akins (Pruitt) and Frank Converse (Chandler) did limited driving during filming. The in cab shots were filmed while the truck was being towed. I was told by the executive producer, Barry Weitz, Akins was more proficient and did some off screen driving to different filming locations, with a professional in passenger seat. He also said Converse didn’t even have a regular driver license but both actors received training and supposedly were issued “chauffeur licenses”, precursors to CDLs. Yes, these were the first 60in sleepers and KW used the show to promote them.

@@markstracener Thanks for the info Mark on Pruitt's KW.. What I read on the Internet was Sagehorn was from Wisconsin and once jumped a dirt bike at some county fair in Wi. He purchased & pulled the orig Bj and Bear trailer in California and pulled it home to his shop in Wi. With the the Moving on Kenworth, I have seen pictures on the internet. My memory is a little foggy here.... Sagehorn possibly owns the orig BJ Areodine And a 2nd newer BJ Replica. The orig Areodine was verified by a worker at The Kenworth factory that when he worked at KW in 1978 He Welded his initials in the plate that mounted the 5th wheel. In 1974 that 60" V.I.T. KW was was king of the road. I wonder if their was a reason for 2nd season truck to have a 10 Speed? Possibly easier for Atkins to drive...... That 903 Cummins seemed strange , the 350 Cummins or a 3406 Cat would been a better fit.

@@markstracener Mark - I have done some research on the Movin On show - if the information I found was correct - the show actually had 6 trucks - 1973 KW - used in the Movie Pilot - had a Detroit diesel with the 36 inch sleeper . It was sent back to Kenworth when the show took off and was modified and had a 60 inch sleeper put on . They next ordered 2 1974 Kenworths that had the 903 Cummins - Then they ordered 2 1975 Kenworths - these had the in line 855 Cummins engines in them - the last one bought before the show was cancelled was a 1976 Kenworth that was supposed to have been black with the green stripes - used in the episode called " the Switch " - a couple of years ago I found a text thread of one enthusiast of the show talking to the man that worked for the show and handled all the trucks for the TV show . The 1973 was originally bought in Scottsdale Arizona - after the Movie Pilot - then they had bought the 2 1974's to get the show going and sent the 1973 for the modifying . He ( truck handler ) said that Akins bought one of the 1975 KW's - I know someone got the 1976 KW. But I didn't hear who acquired it . MGM was supposed had into a warehouse the other 1975 and 1973- the warehouse had a fire and burned up both trucks . Akins - when he died - the family was going to sell that 1975 KW but tragedy struck and it was burned down . That is what I learned and stumbled on to years ago . I thought I would pass this information on . I believed I was reading thru either Overdrive forum or OOIDA forum that I learned this - Thank you for sharing the video - John M

Actually it read 78,100 but this has been covered ad nauseam. This IS an original TV truck, one of four used over the two seasons. After filming it went to work, owned by multiple owners through the years. The frame was stretched along with numerous other modifications to keep it useful. GVW 80,000 was added along the way. It will be rectified back to 78,100 during paint work soon.

The only reason it didn't have power steering from the factory is because whoever bought it didn't tick that option.
I wouldn't drive anything without power steering/brakes/windows/aircon/automatic. Life's too short not to cosset yourself if the technology is available.
