My great grandfather is Elijah "Lije" Coalman (often misspelled Coleman). He made over 500 ascents of the mt and built a forest service lookout on the summit in 1915. I hope to climb it someday in his memory. Coalman Glacier is named in his honor.
Climbers train on Mt. Hood for Mount Rainier, the highest mountain in the Cascades, located in central Washington. Then people train on Mt. Rainier for climbing Mount McKinley and Mount Everest. Mount Hood is Oregon's highest peak, and the fourth tallest volcano in the Cascade Range, after Washington's Mount Rainier and Mount Adams, and California's Mount Shasta.
Steve is quite remarkable, to make such a deep observation about himself. Much respect for that man, what a wonderful family he must have. Thats inspiring to know that there are people that have the capacity to operate in such an awareness to love. Faith in humanities capacity for “good” restored.
@@gcharocks Glaciers advance, glaciers retreat. It's natural. Especially since we are coming out of an ice age. For most of Earth's history, there is no ice. No North Pole, no Antarctica. No glaciers, no icebergs.
derek stevenson Watch the video??? Have been to EVERY scene in the video and the summit 24 times and "on" the upper slopes at least 50 times! Go ahead and believe the "global warming industry" if you wish. Why are you waiting ANOTHER year?
They should rename all these peaks. Won't happen because there has to be a lot of local usage, like Denali. But I for one would gladly call e.g. Rainier - Tahoma instead. Of course, I'm not gonna sound like a dummy and start using it now. So it's hopeless.

NatureShy what’s mount McKinley? In Alaska we call it Denali.
