  • Have you ever wondered what your clarinet would sound like with a different barrel or bell? Backun Artist, Corrado Giuffredi demonstrates what a change in barrel and bell does to the sound of your clarinet... and he does it on a student synthetic clarinet, too (The Backun Alpha)!
    From synthetic material to naturally aged cocobolo and grenadilla woods, you will hear a dramatic change in the overall tonal qualities, as Corrado shares one of his secrets of success... Backun and MoBa Clarinet products!
    In this video, Corrado Giuffredi, Principal Clarinet in the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, Switzerland, is playing a stock (out of the box) Backun Alpha Bb Clarinet with, Backun Fatboy Cocobolo Barrel and MoBa Grenadilla Bell with Voicing Groove.

    85% player's skills: breathing, air flow, voicing and obviously technique....
    as the remaining 15% I could agree with Professor Giuffredi a Bell can do more sound projection and a barrel can improve tone quality obtaining a plus in air speed flowing into the instrument, so is it a merely 15% that can make the real big difference ?

      Voilà la bonne question à se poser . Je dirais même que l 'instrumentiste fabrique lui-même à 90% la sonorité de son instrument. Alors , pourquoi toutes ces discussions avec marques des instruments , mouthpieces , reeds , ligatures , barrels , bells ,....... Il n'y a qu'une seule réponse : MERCHANDISING . That's all folks.......

    Ces clarinettes semblent avoir un son plus léger que les célèbres marques françaises.

    @backunmusical:
    What type of bell and barrel prof Giuffredi tried on the Alpha? Barrel designed for Buffet/Leblanc/Yamaha or Selmer?
    Same as for the bell, B/L/Y or Selmer ? With or without voicing groove?
    Thanks for your answer, I'm very interested to improve an Alpha clarinet
