Is sad going to shows now, no engagement with the artist. They just want to stand and record, while watching the show through their phones. Sad. Low energy.
Brings me back to 86 in San Diego at a Frat Party when I 1st heard this, it was like a major earthquake- never heard anything like it. Went from Run DMC Hardtimes to this was like going 0 to 100 real quick!
Memories of the summer of ''1986'' This song came out of nowhere, And was so fire. Real 80s Babies Hip Hop will always be here And it will always take me back to my childhood back when life was so fun And innocent in the 80s!!!🎶😎
@@seanwright8786 I was 11 years old in 1986'' And the only time i heard anything about crack around that time was when Nancy Reagan was telling people to just say no on commercials. I grew up in the midwest we did't have to worry about crack Hitting our city until almost 1990'' And yes New York had about a 4 year Headstart on every other state everybody in different states back then was always following what people in New york was doing. The Disco Era of the 70s is the reason why Crack was created And was hitting the inner cities of New york back in the early 80s And then Los Angelas In the Midlate 80s. And the 1st time i heard a rapper mention Crack was KRS1 on Criminal Minded In 86'' And then NWA Dopeman in 1987'' 88''. And even then i was still a innocent kid around that time.
@ants8527 wow. You are the same age as my younger sister, who was born in '75. Good stuff. L.A. caught the beginning of the crack epidemic first, something like 2 years before we did on the east coast. I remember hearing about "jumbos" around late summer of '85. I was already using the "gateway" drug by then...(weed). Much more I can go into but not necessary. Take care of yourself. Keep the good memories alive, and glad you're still here to be able to talk about them.
@@seanwright8786 yeah being here on youtube Ain't nothing, But a big time machine for Good memories lol. Thanks for reading my comment, And you take care as well!
It's so cool that you started doing The Wop as soon as the best started. Exactly how we got down. Classic reaction. The greatest East Coast hip hop record of all time
Definitely enjoying the youngsters “discovering” Rakim! As for the who is the “best”question from back then…I’m going Rakim, KRS and Big Daddy Kane. Not only did they have bars, but they had HITS!!
Eric produced this album to be so dark, from the production down to the mastering, only album that sounded like that at the time!!! Still my favorite rapper to this day!!!
The god m.c. One of the most influential acts in hip hop. You ask a hip hop artist who inspired them. They more often than not will name these two men.
I love these reactions . Keep em coming !!!! Brings me back to my youth ! Btw that third verse was a shot at Janet Jackson's (What have you done for me lately )
Also .... I never understood why this version edited out the best line of the song In the 3rd verse he says "Let me be your angel , ill be your protection I took you out , bought you all types of things I MUST OF GOT YOU TOO HOT AND BURNT OFF YOUR WINGS !"
Peace To The Gods!! This is the cut which reshaped and changed the very landscape of my existence ! Years later I would work for Eric B…also get the original version..One Love
I grew up with this. I remember coming into school singing this along with my friends not really knowing what it meant, just that it sounded so cool. To echo what most have said, this really was the changing of the guard. Even then we knew this wasn’t grandmaster flash, run dmc or the fat boys (all whom we loved) this was THE future. He was right when he says “it ain’t the everyday style of the same old rhyme” cos it wasn’t. All who came after: Tupac, biggie, nas, jay Z , Eminem etc, all of them are direct offsprings of Rakim’s style.
4:39 That was a reference to a New York serial killer from the 1980s named Brian Glaze Bibbs. So back in the '80s, when someone said, "you tried to 'glaze' me", it meant you tried to kill me.
This was a watershed moment in hip hop. Me and all my friends from school couldn't believe what we were hearing. Rhymes came from every angle and he was thoughtful and exuded confidence like no one we'd ever heard before. Run DMC was dope but predictable and had not expanded beyond the limitations of their current style of delivery, mostly rhyming at the end of bars and yelling for emphasis. Rakim was everything they were not in such a way that he introduced a whole new era of lyricism. This is the genesis of modern flow.
This was actually a remake from the original. The original is much better because it doesn't drag out the song. The sounds you are hearing are mostly clip reversals that are used from the original track put in at the studio recording.
🔥🔥🔥🔥reaction! Would love to see your reaction to Eric B / Rakim ....[musical massacre] sis!! Keep doing your thing and I will be right there📢 routing you on ✌
The bar you missed. I took you out ,bought you all kinds of things. I must have got you too hot and burned off your wings. You caught the glazed donut coded message. Lol. Breadcrumbs
'First u said all u want is love and affection let me be ur angel and I'll be your protection Take u out buy u all kinds of things (I must've got u too hot, burned off ur wings) ...Never knew why they cut that last line out
Same beat that was used for MC Shan's " The Bridge" with Vonda Raye's 'over like a fat rat' . Arranged by Marley Marl also. All Marley did was flip the arrangement.
You needs 2 review the b side to this record, where RAKiM drops his 7 emcee theory which has not been equalled *”TILL THIS DAY⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️”* as my man deontay wilder would say…………
As a 53 year old, I love to see you young folks's reactions to this classic hip hop. This is how it should be.
Imagine the crowd moving with no cell phones. They performed this on The Apollo and the energy was amazing. No distractions.
Is sad going to shows now, no engagement with the artist. They just want to stand and record, while watching the show through their phones. Sad. Low energy.
This song is the NY hip hop personified.... Nothing like the streets and parties when this dropped..... Thank you DJ 's

Exactly. The crazy thing when you say fun and innocent is that we were teenagers living the early years of the Crack era!! Damn.😮

In my opinion…..their best song was “My Melody”…it came out of nowhere and has one of the greatest Hip Hop lines ever written in it….”7 Emcees….”
Indeed

You should definitely react to songs "My Melody" "Move the Crowd" and
"You know I Got Soul".
Rakim was referring to Janet Jackson quote what have you done for me lately.

This was Eric B and Rakim's first release and first hit back in 1985 (or 1986). I think Rakim was just 16 years old when he dropped this cut.
He's the best at it. Lyrical god.
What is the best in the intro? It got that Children Story drum program.
