Barkhad Abdi did a wonderful job in Captain Philips. Even his friends who played as the pirate crew members did an awesome job as well.
Despite not winning an Oscar, Barkhad Abdi appeared in Blade Runner 2049, won a BAFTA and worked on television.
I hope he is doing well.
Haing S. Ngor would be a great person to cover for Oscar profiles, although his story has a tragic end.

Great idea for a series. I’m looking forward to others. One suggestion I’d be interested in is Jocelyn Laguard in 1966’s Hawaii. She acted only in that film, got another Oscar nomination and never acted again. I think she’s the only actor in history to be nominated for the only film they acted in.

Love him! He's got a great future as a character actor ahead of him, just someone you get intrigued seeing him on a cast list. That neck cracking scene in The Curse has haunted me so much. Would love to see him in something lighter too, his smile is so winning.

What a great start to a new series! I did wonder if he went on to do anything else after Capt Phillips and I'm so glad to see that he has. There were those who commented that perhaps he would have a very limited career (similar remarks were made about Gabby Sidibe) but he does have the raw talent to succeed. Speaking of other subjects for this series, I think Gabby Sidibe would be perfect!

I had to watch Captain Phillips for a class and we only had to watch 45 minutes of the film, but of course I had to watch the whole thing because it was so good. And the acting was top tier. All the Somali actors were impeccable.
