Shakespeare quotes I spotted in the video: 1:31 “Something wicked this way comes.” - Macbeth (We’re not in a theater so I can say the name 😉) 2:01 “Here’s the rub” - Hamlet (where “here’s” is more often replaced by “there’s” or “therein lies” or something along those lines.) 5:04 “The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” - Hamlet 8:47 “‘The play’s the thing” - Hamlet Did I miss any? If so, how many did I miss? (EDIT: I left out the ones from the clips of the show’s dialogue)
You know, I never actually noted down how many I used - but going back through the script, I think you got all of them! Are you on the discord? If so, would you like the ✨ special flair ✨?
Honestly the fact that spectacular Spider-Man could effortlessly mix in together Peter’s highschool and superhero life effortlessly while actively being able to humanize and interweave the villains in a larger narratively like it was easy while doing some world building on them on the side is insane. Like putting into perspective how much happening 26 episodes makes me really sad we might never see how this story would’ve unfolded.
You mentioning the play in Season 2 reminds me of the fact that Greg Weisman mentioned that he would have had a *musical* episode; that was something I would have liked to see.
Okay one more thing: I’ve always wondered what would have happened if Sony’s rights to TV shows and Movies had been switched: like what if Disney gained it back in 2009 and got the animation rights in 2015 instead.
@@PillarofGarbage I think Spectacular Spider-Man would have gone on for at least three more seasons, and Spider-Man could’ve potentially been in a Phase 1 movie (it’s anyone’s guess who would play him). Oh well.
I watched a recent review of Spectacular Spider-Man that was more average. Pointing out the criticisms was good. I love Goblin in this series, he is one of my favorite villains in all of fiction. Reading his back story actually gave me motivation in my life at a dark point. I really wish we got a season 3.
I LOVED that lines from the play that drop every one's in a while when they fitted, and the way Green Goblin talks in rhymes. I'm a sucker for rhymes and poetry.
I need Spectacular Spiderman season 3 to happen. I can't take it anymore. How can a show so good not have an ending like I want Spectacular Spiderman season 3 more then anything. Great video by the way!
Man your spiderman video is what made me watch this show for the first time and it was so enjoyable, I think the mcu 3,4 and 5 movies should loosely follow this show honestly Edit:imagine Peter meeting Harry and Norman (mcu versions) and Peter automatically assumes normans the goblin, then in the 6th movie it’s revealed he framed his son for everything he did, and Peter feeling responsible for Harry getting sent away
For the last few months the Spectacular Spider-Man theme song has just been playing in my head and I just have to imagine it was my spidey sense telling me you were going to make this video.
I freaking love analyses like this, especially on a show I'm getting into! Late to the party, I know, but still. I'm glad it's still being talked about and this vid just made me appreciate it more! Thanks for your work
Hey that was actually the last play I got to do in school! I was a huge theatre kid, and this was for fall 2019, would have done one final play for spring 2020, but covid happened, but regardless of that it was actually my favorite production we ever did. Sm amazing memories on that set, the late nights at school, messing around the halls with crew and friends when no one else was there for the most part, and getting to help the freshmen actors prepare for their first role and just showing them the ropes, and sm more😁😁😁
amazing video as always! something i'd love to hear your opinion on when it comes to spectacular spiderman is your thoughts on their version of venom. it's one of if not my favorite adaptation of the eddie brock character to date - do you think there was ever a chance (if the show had ever kept going, RIP) that there could've been some sort of redemption arc for eddie and the symbiote? or maybe a version of a carnage storyline that would force venom and spidey to work together? would love to hear your thoughts!
I think it would be possible to redeem Eddie - but I think redeeming the symbiote would have been a harder job. The show had great writing though, so with enough time I suppose anything’s possible!
Have you ever watched Get Over It. It’s not to related to the video or even Spectacular Spider-Man but it’s also an adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the setting of a high school. I was about to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream live when I was rewatching this show so I had also recently watched Get Over It too. That was a few months ago but this show and Get Over It still remains one the first things I associate with A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Well done on these great video essays you truly are one of the UA-cam greats (btw have you watched young justice another spectacular show by Greg weisman)
Funny story about Greg Weisman: before watching this show, my only experience with him was cursing his name for his work on the War of the Spark and Forsaken novels he did for Wizards of the Coast, which are pretty much unanimously agreed upon as the worst stories written for Magic: the Gathering. The second one, Forsaken, also had Wizards-mandated bisexual erasure for the character of Chandra Nalaar (which, best as we could guess, was to appease their market in China). He expressed that he didn’t have any choice in that manner, and that his intent was to let us down easy, but he definitely failed in that regard. Now, I absolutely respect his work on Spectacular Spider-Man and Young Justice, but previous to finding out he was behind these shows, I held him in pretty low esteem.
This episode was my favorite since I'm a sucker for Shakespeare and Midsummer's night in particular. The only one I think I like more is Much Ado About Nothing

I think the reason it was a surprise that that Norman was the goblin when it never is is because Harry has been the goblin so many times before
Who lives in your sink and what do you mean you can see his eyes???
