- Ive been on a mission to improve my horses welfare. After going through an extreme transformation myself from traditional training to positive reinforcement with a bent toward equine wellness, I decided to go grain free. With very little resources of what to feed and how to feed it I just decided to start. Mistakes were made but major victories were had and I hope y'all get some clarity from my experience and that you see that all horses can go grain free and reap the countless benefits from increased hoof quality to a glass-like coat.

Thank you for being so transparent and honest about what led you to going grain free and the challenges you had. This is the part no one talks about, and make it look like they were just born knowing it all.
Mine are no grain horses for years. I fed some oats at the start, which was a bad decision. I have learned a lot. I use mostly Triple Crown Balancer Timothy Cubes soaked with no molasses beet pulp now.
I am in the process of switching my two thoroughbreds onto forage based! 🤞🏻Figuring it out as I go. One of them has bad ulcers currently and I’m thinking he’s had them for quite awhile I didn’t know.
Just makes sense to get them onto their natural diet :)
Thank you for sharing! I made the switch off of grain and onto forage based just a couple weeks ago.
I’ve listened to a lot of equine nutritionist and the minerals horses are deficient in the most when doing an all forage diet is copper, zinc, and selenium. I like that you did a test after a while of them being purely on forage. I am surprised the ration balancer didn’t supplement them enough but you did your homework just to double check! Thank you for sharing and educating. Horses can’t be on JUST forage because of the stress and work we put them under. Wild horses usually do not live as long and are not under as much stress as our domesticated horses. This is a great video!
Wild horses actually live longer than domestic horses
@@VixxTheFoxx actually they live about half the time. Do a quick google search and you’ll see wild horses usually only live about 15 years. Average for domesticated horses is 30 and that’s in addition to all the stressors we put on domesticated horses like grain feed, feeding schedules, stalling, riding, transport, smaller pastures.
Great info 🇦🇺
try Sainfoin instead of straight alfalfa
