- The internet of things is here, and technologist Taylor Romero is first in line to bring these new advances into his wife’s barbershop & clothing store. Brick-and-mortar stores are in competition with online retail, but might the internet save his family shop? Join Taylor has he pulls back the curtain on the future of IOT-integrated retail.
Taylor Romero landed his first web gig at the age of 14 and worked several high-profile positions in the tech industry before going in a totally new direction, diving into retail and men’s fashion. He and his wife, Becca, opened Spruce, a menswear boutique and barbershop, in 2015 and haven’t looked back since. Taylor is passionate about the ways technology can impact our world, and hopes to play a part in helping put Denver on the map as a tech mecca.

The internet is exactly what us millennials want - instant gratification. We have little patience since we have grown up with all this technology. I like when he talks about how inpatient we are online while shopping, but we are willing to wait in long lines for something in a store.
4 years later... Internet is connected to my doorbell, the door locks both home and car, my lights, I've even seen fridges that'll tell you when you're low on milk when you drive near a store. So he was right
I'm a retail analyst and I have to say this talk was brilliant. Personalization through technology is the future. Best of luck with your business, and hopefully you'll consider expanding into Canada at some point as you grow.
Really funny and informative talk. He has great vision for the future and it'll help others to propel a lot of new ideas. And also the guy is crazy funny...xP
I loved it. Brilliant!
Now everyone on TEDx Talks wants to be an standup comedian.
Bernardo Lopez It's happening in our churches too :( People just gotta be entertained
This guy is good!!
I like this speech. It is truthful. And the speaker Taylor Romero did a good job. What he is saying is true about technology in today's society. And loved the heartwarming example. The business is a good idea. A combination of the two concepts. It is good to see give people a spruce in their life. Get it. Spruce. Everyone needs one of those once in awhile. Especially if they have a bad day.
Awesome storytelling. Thanks
Great talk and great talker
Loved it 😊😊
He’s an awesome storyteller!
Polarizing chap (see how the reviews below are split) but i enjoyed it thoroughly and had a few light bulb moments as a result. Thanks!
it was exhausting to watch !
Great content, but agreed! Even my heart started to pound faster!
Waw what a talk!
Interesting POV, and many good insights. I just wonder about all those "the way it's always been" moments of the speech...that gives me the shivers LOL
This is such a fantastic tedx talk well done Taylor Romero!!
Well done Mr. Romero! =D
This was very informative, thank you very much for this video.
One of the best talk I watched till date!!
Great, the dude is awesome
Dude, love it! Refreshing to see something funny about the future, instead of something apocalyptic. "This couch is useless!" Awesome!
👏👏👏 what a great presentation! Such a good watch, both informative and hilarious, highly entertaining. 👍
Just Great !

Great example of things to come.
This TED Talk has aged like the finest wine
Haha dude we should connect. You are hilarious :) I love where your heads at. Keep up the great speeches. Maybe I can stop by your business for a haircut.
This guy is the best!

Excellent job!
Daamn he was a good speaker
Interesting topic, overplayed...
Isn't this the guy from Silicon Valley the HBO series? Loved the talk and the way he is breaking it down to being just human ;-)
I wanna time travel to 4 years back say YESS BRO AM FROM FUTURE and whatever you said is fkin true.
muito bom.
This guy should be on Netflix. 😀😂
1:35 , can someone explain his joke about how he doesn't want to risk bringing in manufacturing

I'd love someone to do a pentest on his store and his IOTs. I bet there are loads of holes in it. Wait until they have a data breach.
Still easier to just go down to my local barbers and just walk in. See how many people were in before me and then know when I'll be next. Simple.
I'm so glad I don't have to watch and can click away.
Will we still go into stores? ;/
truethfull I meant...a small cel w small screen doesnt help... blessu all.
Dope message but possible wrong crowd
So, the whole point which really shows that technology is worth giving away our privacy and loosing millions of Jobs is that in the event of a Deaf client coming in,our assistantwould lhave time to learn a couple of greetings in the sign language which would make the client happy enough to get a selfie which would contribute to the success of the Shop just cause prospective clients who happen to search for him on facebook will find a picture of a happy person after a haircut, but not because of the haircut, but for the fact that every body knew he was Deaf before hand. Amazing.
Nice to know he is a South Park fan
It set booking guide deal
Having employees enter data about a client’s general disposition or personality traits such as “frequently chatty” or “not chatty” ?? Wow really?! What else do beauty stylists share about their clients? No one in the salon should be describing
a client’s personality and especially over the Internet.
the scary thing is he's right hundred percent like the night that day is coming and as that day comes you lose your freedom the government will know more about you I for one welcome the side I don't pay taxes on certain things that will change when they turn cash into cashless I love my cash because it keeps them at my business for now
Technology for pleasant consumption. Is that the way technology’s always been?
Tank tops under blazers are technology
Heading into a TECHONOLOGY Prison!
Im wondering Why this has got less views.... 😁 oh myan its really awesome n true as well....
jagadish karki Did you get the manufacturing joke? 1:40 , if so please explain it to me lol
Impossible to watch and low quality content
Evgeny An you couldn't do better.
wow
(: good thing. I ain't the only 1.
You're not the only one doing what?
very interesting topic but veerryy exhausting performance...
this dude is funny
but not half as funny as he is trying to be
I really enjoyed the video. He's surely amazing and entertaining. However, pretty much everything he spoke about is quite known....there wasn't something very 'New'.
Yes.. trying too hard and so very rehearsed down to inflection and hand gestures etc..... couldn't get through first 2 minutes.. speak naturally..
we can say its a tech guy stand up comedy
Me load ? Not get and log link me need
We will wait in store without thought but a second of online shopping pages loading and we leave the site and never return....
Mind blown.
We blame smart phones for antisocial behaviours but don't even notice that before phones it was books and news papers...
Blown Mind blown.
😶
This was impossible to watch. Trying way too hard.
I just watched another 2 minutes of it and CANNOT believe how bad it is.
I eagerly await your TedX talk, Maria. Can you remind me when you're presenting? Need to clear my calendar.
he got the entire hipster thing down
You know he’s doing it on purpose as a joke?
Good luck with it fella!
🛸
In my opinion, this talk did not meet the usual standard of educating us on new ideas. It appeared to me more of entertainment about an interesting topic, and using a lot of humor to help us understand it. At the midway point I had to stop the stream because I was not feeling educated enough. In my opinion, TED should not allow this format to become a trend. I listen to TED videos on automatic loop in UA-cam and I prefer my TED videos to be fascinating rather than simply entertaining. Thanks.
It's a great talk, but it's trying to legitimize certain things that aren't needed.
Why would anyone ever need an internet washing machine when it cannot load itself. Or an internet couch?
I see things like this as the equivalent of me driving down the road to the shop, instead of walking to it. You go too far in this direction you end up as the people in Wall-E.
This speech made it pretty clear, it's not about "why would a couch need the internet?" it's about "what could a couch do with the internet?"
It's because one day, there will be a problem solved by connecting it to the internet. One day, laundry machines may even be able to load themselves.
Hipsters in adoration of Technocracy... oh brother
lool he stole the newspaper joke
Its a great point. Could have used a little better audio, but it was a great point about newspapers.
Now people think making jokes is "stealing" them?
Why did the chicken cross the-
"You stole the chicken joke!"
I don't like this guy.
its his voice
Why?
Mera friend jo ki furniture mart run karta hai mujhe er4u suggest kiya tha aur maine bhi ise purchase kar liya hai. Main isse inventory, bills generate karta hoon aura b kisi aur software ke bare main soch bhi nahi sakta. Thanks er4u Er4u ko call karne ke liye number hai 9893544430

I was unable to do much with my previous software. On the other hand my old customers were constantly moving away and I was not having any considerable increase in new customers. I wanted to do something new like big businesses do. I came across er4u and my problem just got over. With the help of er4u I can create offer coupons, schemes and run loyalty programs which is latest in the business. My sales increased by 35% in no time. Thank you friends!

Just try to understand the concept of his talk...."Technology will change retail shopping"??????I got a couple of messages, but this guy is not efficient enough ! good luck
Ugh.
Ted talks are sometimes just not funny standup shows
I thought this guy did a great job.
why so fake?!! is it a rehearsal for acting?
Boring!
Good concept/ideas, but the guy was really annoying.
This is a good example of BAD acting. Painful to watch
boring!
