    Let's be real. Dancehall started going downhill when guys like Notnice, Di Genius and Russian started doing the hiphop riddim thing. Trap dancehall is just the next evolution of that.

      Remember hip hop is an evolution of dancehall. Reggaeton is an evolution of reggae, so it isn’t the evolution that’s the issue necessarily- it’s the space the evolution now occupies. I personally don’t like this space, but I’m sure these young creatives will continue to evolve & find themselves in a more dynamic space. 🤞🏾

    Damcehall is all about fun, dancing and a full joyment that touches the heart and yanks at the nerve signals that causes you to want to explode, Even when you hear songs of death and destruction, you still felt happy and exhilarated listening to it. Dancehall has been that way from it's inception, full of vibes, life and hope. To the point where we brought it into the church especially for funerals to celebrate the life of the deceased rather than mourning there loss.
    Trap music is the sound of a lost soul trying to work out whether they should end it all (life that is). This music form seems to attract people who did not have a socially enriched life, having dropped out of school at a very tender age (rather than at college stage) and then got holed up in a prison-like environment, most times playing games and/or glued to the phone, rather than engaging with real people in real life situations. such as inviting a girl over to play doll house etc. It is laced with feelings of suicide, death and destruction and thats just based on the American and UK songs I have heard.
    Unfortunately our yutes have also bought into it, when they jumped on those riddims, no sunshine, beach, beautiful ladies in bikinis, batty riders etc. Their fast and flashy rides won't be filled with hot girls and banging music. Just bare dumbass with guns and drugs hell bent on creating worlds end.
    This is why the old school music like Pliers 'sunshine day' and the army of classic dancehall songs still rule our hearts, mind and soul. When the Pliers song pull up you then gets the likes, of Shabba, Papa San, Tiger, Prof Nuts and Trees attacking the riddims in true dancehall style and fashion. then the nineties kings and queens and the millenium generals took over our listening hears and dancing feets, dance cork and liquor sell off . You don't have to ask who will be the victor in this battle of dancehall vs trap music, not even the dead don't need reminders in terms of hearing anymore trap music.
    Don't buy into the confusion, there is no such thing as Trap dancehall, it is just jamaicans coming thru with their version of trap music, as the mighty Shabba Ranks said "DANCEHALL STANDS ALONE".......It's just dancing..... if you nah move, then you're trapped in a box, probably dead.
    More life and love we a deal with Reggae & Dancehall R&D str8888, where women are the centre and fence around everything we enjoy about life.

    Thank you so much for this interview with NotNice! I agree with his perspective on dancehall and trap and made me think of what people outside of Jamaica define as dancehall- as a reggae and dancehall lover of 30 years plus, I know a dancehall song when I hear it. There’s so much to say I’ve been inspired to cover this topic on my next vlog. there is no threat to true Dancehall, so no worries inna di dancehall!! 🔥🇯🇲💯❤️‍🔥…. Give thanks NotNice for all the mad chunes with Vybz Kartel and personally me like Jah Vinci from the days of Gaza, one of my favorite riddims is still Yung riddim and gangsta city riddim…but I’ll hear his new songs just not into the romantic style… I do want to give it a chance though. someone showed me a couple years ago a song and told me that it wasn’t a dancehall song but it had a part that sounded like Vybz Kartel - it was partynextdoor but I saw it had NotNice and I thought it should be good… then I heard the sample of Vybz and loved it! a good example of a hybrid song well done. I probably wouldn’t have even listened to it if it didn’t have your name and the Kartel sample… so much love NotNice, thank you for your music 🙌🏽 🔥 give thanks Winford for the great interview, as always 💯

    Dancehall doesn’t have a feel good vibe to it anymore. The music is too riddled with violence and profanity. Which, won’t go anywhere. Some of the songs out there are really good, but it will never get much AirPlay because of the amount of profanity in it. You can’t play it any and everywhere because of the amount of bad words in it. And these artiste won’t even make a clean version of the song. If you look at Afrobeats or even Reggaeton, most of their songs are clean and feel good type of music that you can dance to, hold a vibe, and even play anywhere. But Dancehall these days is not that. Clean up the music and you’ll see how far Dancehall will get.

    I have no problem with Trap-Dancehall existing but it shouldn’t be at the forefront of the Dancehall space. Merging genres of music is nothing new but this should be kept at a minimum because it can drown out the original sound of a genre. E.g. Dancehall.
    Hiphop, Afrobeats etc merges with other genres of music but they never let it override (pause 😂) the authentic sound of their own. And they keep the mixing with other genres to a minimum.

    Vybz Kartel destroyed Dancehall Music! Before you guys jump defend the “Worl Boss” let me explain why:
    Firstly, Vybz has ushered in an era of extremely dirty music. Filled with profanity, very sexual and violent messages. Dancehall to some extent had similar songs with same kind of content in the past, but not to this extent. Eventually, these types of songs became and staple for local consumers of Dancehall. This in turns , made a lot of upcoming artiste thinking that this was the way to go to always sing about kil/ing, guns, sex, because they see it work for Kartel, they think it will work for them, not knowing this is the start of slow death of Dancehall music.
    Secondly, The volume of song that Kartel produced. Let me say this that nothing is wrong with producing a lot of song, but it’s how you produce them. Vybz Kartel has always been known for producing a lot of songs. Sometimes releasing multiple songs in a given day that was even recorded the very same day. Some of these song eventually became local hits, but most of them were rather basic from an overall musical standpoint, in terms of the quality of the recording. The song wouldn’t be mixed or mastered properly and you can just tell that there was no quality control involved, but due to the fact Vybz Kartel has a name and a large following, people would rave about it. Aspiring artiste will see this and think that they also needed to do the same and put out 2 songs a day instead of taking their time and making a quality record that will last for ages. Most of the song Vybz Kartel made are quick songs that are here today and gone tomorrow. For the volume of songs he put out, only a handful of them really stand out. Vybz Kartel took Dancehall music from being internationally acclaimed to garrison music. And that’s what most young artiste are singing today. Songs that won’t even reach Norman Manly airport much less to board a flight. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it ✋🏽🎤

      @EjnrTV 2 роки тому

      I agree with some of the points made here. Vybz Kartel is my favourite but his reign was good and bad in some ways for the business. His brand image and the use of certain sounds in his music helped in the decline of Dancehall.

Most of the songs kartel made were dancehall music,keep the man dem rocking and the women whining,very much dancehall. The argument of making cleaner music is a different argument onto itself

    There's been a concentrated effort since the 80's to remove the soul from black music because our power is in our music and certain beings want to sync our sounds into their lower dimensions from where they can trap, control and feed off of us, they have all kinds of artificial technology and equipment for this, then they use money and fame to lure a constant stream of young artists and producers into their world to saturate the industry with negative sounds and images and drown out our positive natural sounds that can unite and uplift the ppl and the cycle continues each generation

During this time MTV and BET was in our faces every day and the radio stations played as much hip hop as they play dancehall music. The new generation of producers during this time strayed away from the original template of dancehall music "90s Style" and hip hop influenced our music as much as we influenced theirs. It's just the evolution of music. The artists just need fi find hit songs that can cross over. Koffee doing very well and she on trap beats. Jamaican didn't started doing music first music changes everywhere the blueprint of reggae/Dancehall will always be there as a templates for who wants to do that type of music but also like building house you'll add different part to it like a guess room or a walk in closet, you will have different part and additional sides to music reggae was stolen, dancehall was stolen, hip hop was stolen, even Ska was stolen so all these music have one factor so just look at trap Dancehall as another stolen genre or "johnra" as humbre call it.

    Best name for it should be *"CARIBBEAN TRAP"* or *"ISLAND TRAP"* or something of the sort. Music evolve and if the youngins are inspired by another international sound/genre to create something new, weather or not it is accepted internationally, I don't think dancehall players/lovers should shun it or speak ill of it. Why not work along with it and find creative ways to mix it with authentic dancehall sound.

    When reggae was the thing and dancehall was upcoming many people look down on hardcore dancehall artists and it take decades for dancehall to become mainstream now the same thing happening to trap ..trap will have it time .. dancehall isn't even the same like when yellow man and general trees was doing it ..beenie and bounty was an evolve version of dancehall anyway ..let music grow

    • @EjnrTV
      @EjnrTV 2 роки тому

      Not the same in my opinion. At least Dancehall was authentic made from elements out our own original genres and from our African roots. Trap-Dancehall is biting a next man style (Modern American Hiphop) which has a very low vibration and doesn’t represent Jamaicans at all. We are trendsetters. Not followers. If Trap music was never made before maybe I might agree with you but it is not ours.

    Winford, please do some research into the hertz of this trap crap music in comparison to the hertz of dancehall. The lower vibrational energy of trap doesn't lift spirits because of the lower wave length (hertz).

    last hot dancehall riddims release in the 2005 - 2015 from (di genius, zj chrome, romeich etc) and these were different to nowadays riddim. the thing about trap is that the producers not recognizing that trap in each country inna west africa, UK, US, australia. have a recognizable niche. like south of US trap has alot of organ instruments like US gospel, the west coast still using their original beats as the underlay to their tracks, notnice right dem just a copy and paste weh foreign have already dem nuh want hear that. even within hip hop ppl a get tired addi drill like brooklyn drill and are returning to their hip hop roots they haven't got rid of the trap/drill but they are now melding it instead of it being the main ingredient from my common man viewpoint
