I really like this style content. I can relate with cars. I tried try get a mechanic job and didn't work out. I ended getting into cars heavily back in the mid 2000. Now I am pretty handy with cars, and saved a-lot of coin doing things myself.

Thank you. Being a mechanic would not be an easy job, and you'd need to buy a lot of expensive tools too. Also, I really just want to work on my own vehicles. If I worked on other people's cars all the time I'd probably have no energy left for my own.

Those iridium plugs are crazy expensive.
    Cheat sheet looks handy.
I think the prolonged shot over the engine bay could have been more interesting for feedback but i like the chill style too so up to you. I've just sold my tub28 330i to make room for a couple new cars and m3 parts so I'm living e46 life through you for a bit.

Thanks for the feedback! I felt like this video dragged a bit toward the end but next time I'll have a better idea of what I'm going for. Some people are saying the platinum plugs are just as good as iridium in these cars but I'm not convinced. Kinda wish I had tried them this time to save a little money but I've run the iridium plugs twice in the past with good results, so I kind of bought these on instinct. By the way, there's a little gift for Money Shifters at the end of this video. You probably missed it because it's after the false ending.

I've been meaning to give you guys a shout-out for a long time now, but this is my first BMW video in 6 months! My channel isn't very big either, so it might not help too much. Keep making great content!

WOW. That is scary. I hope it did not damage the engine.

Nothing wrong with Bosch sparks plugs. Just tighten to 30nm and dont use whatever you were putting on the threads...

      Maybe!

Agreed. Pretty strange to blame the plug when you didn't tighten it down well enough. There's no telling what could happen in that situation, regardless of brand or design.

    • @EndlessMoneyPits

The plugs were torqued to spec.

Right but you mention that you like to put antiseize on there so maybe it's something like that?
Thing is torque specs aren't always the best when it comes to certain things. I tightened the drain plug on my 1 series according to spec and it leaked. When I handtightened it like I usually do obviously it didn't leak more.
I'm feeling more and more that it might be better to go by handfeel specifically for drain plugs and spark plugs. Maybe because the hole gets used (no pun intended...) so many times it becomes looser or deformed and so the torque spec (which is specced for new vehicles) doesn't apply anymore.

You sure you got the right plugs there? They look to be BKR6EIX. Pretty sure the correct ones should be BKR6EQUP

You're talking about the platinum plugs. I got the iridium ones, so they have a different part number. Confirmed fitment on multiple websites.

@@EndlessMoneyPits Interesting, never really looked into the topic of spark plugs with any real depth. RealOEM specifies BKR6EQUP so I've always just gone with them. Just did a quick skim through E46 Fanatics, there seem to be some mixed views on the BKR6EIX's. Did you go with them purely because that's what was available locally or for any supposed benefits? Keen to hear how you get on with them after putting some mileage on.
Regarding the new video format, looks pretty good! Have found a number of your previous videos useful, nice to put a face to them. Good stuff.
On the O2 sensors, I get that you've got headers but why not just unplug the sensors instead of just leaving them dangling? Because of the engine light that would trigger? Should be pretty simple to flash an EU2 tune on.

@@Vass046 I have run the NGK iridium plugs twice before. Pushed them to 70k miles the first time and noticed some misfiring, so I changed them after 50k miles the second time around. They seem to be good, long lasting spark plugs. The harder the metal on the electrode, the longer lasting they should be: copper

@@EndlessMoneyPits Yeah interesting that. I've got a relatively fresh M54B30 with only ~11k km's post engine rebuild. I did put brand new BKR6EQUP's in it, the engine seems to run smoothly but have started monitoring fuel trims and they seem to indicate the engine running rich and having to pull fuel back. Not enough to trigger an engine light but enough to annoy me. Thinking the spark plugs might have somehow gotten gunked up during the break in period so will replace them and see what happens. The NGK website does list the iridium ones as compatible although FCP Euro and a couple of other supplier websites I use only offer BKR6EQUP and its Bosch equivalent for my engine.
Interesting that the O2 sensors left loosely dangling doesn't trigger an engine light. Would have assumed the readings wouldn't be correct but I guess it just thinks the engine is burning fuel so well that all it's spitting out is fresh air :D
I just got a new coding laptop and was rewatching your video on installing standard tools just the other day so you will already have all the software to flash a new tune. WinKFP is all you need and it's a really straightforward process. Would make a useful video.
