Electric Bike or Car? Have you tried an electric bicycle? Would you ride an e-bike instead of your car? I used to live in a city where everything was within walking distance. I would walk to the Grocery Store to buy ingredients for dinner but rural America is very sprawling and not exactly car-free designed.
Public transportation is not an option and unreliable in many parts of America. It is a privilege to have access to transportation.

You pretty much nailed why riding a bike is awesome. I had forgotten the reasons after 35 years of riding to school and work so thanks for the refresher. My e-bike just extended my range and speed, I still get the exercise, outdoor experience and fresh air benefits! People still think I'm crazy when I commute through snowstorms though. Meh, we're not as delicate as we might think. RIDE YOUR BIKE!

Comparatively, it would be easier to adjust to living without a car than living without plastics, when plastic is everywhere in many ways, so then it becomes about reducing waste as much as possible by minimising the use of plastic items or reusing them as much as possible and then recycling them when it's time to chuck them away.
Good job. Videos like this improve my faith in people.

My wife and I recently rented bikes in Myrtle Beach and made the mistake of trusting Google Maps to take us there. Two hours and some sunburn later, we made it from our resort to the beach -- only to discover that there was a beautiful bike trail that could have taken us the entire way to the beach and saved us an hour and a half. So I guess the lesson in all that is bikes are awesome, and don't always trust Google Maps, but take the time to explore the area around you.

When you choose Bike and you also choose the map overlay for bicycles, you will see some commonly used bike trails in dotted green lines. It won't have all the gravel trails but anything paved or officially a large bike trail will be on Google Maps if you choose the bike overlay.

You can take a few steps to ride in non dedicated roads.. for one have mirrors, on both sides of the handle bar, invest in a horn, most of the times you get it with an ebike.. make sure you stick to sides, not be the first person off a stop - which is very tempting with an ebike - be visible. With some reflector vests. Get attachable turn signals - a lot of which are available online - visibility and blinking lights register to motorists and this is something to do even in an ordinary bicycle.
Riding a bike can be very efficient and relaxing and if you're not a regular bike rider already, start small in a trial and then build up to roads. Get used to checking around you and eliminating blindspots.. wishing you happy cycling.

    This is really cool.
As someone who has not had a car for over 10 years I wish more people would try using a bike more.
I realize not everyone lives in a city as nice as where I live and that the infrastructure isn't great in many places but I think
using the bike for errands or to meet up with friends would really add to people's quality of life, even in the suburbs.
Maybe the goal isn't to go car-free but rather to go car-lite? 🙂 Either way I hope your car free adventure leads you somewhere good.

I am 69, live in Wollongong, Australia, and bought my ebike a year ago. My bike is folding, with fat wheels and legal for Australia. I agree with everything you said in your video. My bike lives in the boot of my car and I whip it out whenever I get the chance. My work takes me up and down the south coast of NSW and the bike gets whipped out all the time for fabulous rides. Like you, I find myself finding hidden gems that I have passed a million times in my car. I also find that I stop a lot, just to look at nature and the scenery. It is not feasible for me to replace a car with a bike as Australia is really big and stretched out. City people might be able to do it. Simply, my bike was a cheapie at $800 Aus and it runs brilliantly. Best thing I have done, especially at my age. Love your video.

I absolutely love riding my bike to town for groceries. It's one of my highlights of the day. I try to ride the 6 miles to the post office to drop off packages and the store for a few groceries everyday. In one week of cycling to town 9 times while my car was in the shop, I lost 5 LBS. I think it's a smart thing to do and I even live way out in the country. Good for you and you'll most likely save thousands of dollars if not hundreds of thousands in medical bills in later years if you keep it up. Be safe.
