Also, it's a way for people who are depressed to feel a connection with a character. This is probably my favorite song from this movie. So much emotion is packed into this song, and it sets up the whole movie so brilliantly. Im usually not a fan of musical movies, but this is one of, if not the best one ive ever seen
Not to mention Danny Elfman loved Jacks character so much, he didn’t trust anyone else to sing or understand his struggles as well as he could himself so he is Jacks singing voice.
This song really does explain that even if someone is extremely good at something and their talent for it is unmatched it doesn’t necessarily mean that it makes the person who is gifted with it happy. I myself have seen this before and people really do get tired with being praised for the same old thing over and over again.
Lyrics: Jack: There are few who deny, at what I do am the best, For my talents are renowned far and wide. When it comes to surprises in the moonlit night, I excel without ever even trying. With the slightest little effort of my ghostlike charm, I have seen grown men give out a shriek! With a wave of my hand and a well placed moan, I have swept the very bravest off their feet! Yet year after year, it's the same routine, and I grow so weary of the sound of screams. And I, Jack, the Pumpkin King Have grown so tired of the same old thing. Oh, somewhere deep inside of these bones, An emptiness began to grow. There's something out there, far from my home A longing that I've never known. I'm a master of fright, and a demon of light And I'll scare you right out of your pants! To a guy in Kentucky, and Mr Unlucky And I'm known throughout England and France And since I am dead, I can take off my head To recite Shakespearean quotations. No animal nor man can scream like I can, With the fury of my recitations. But who here would ever understand, The Pumpkin King with the skeleton grin Would tire of his crown? If they only understood, He would give it all up if he only could. Oh, there's an empty place in my bones, That calls out for something unknown. The fame and praise come year after year Does nothing for these empty tears. Sally: (spoken) Jack, I know how you feel...

The older you get the more relateable this becomes. This is an I want song but it's not for an I want to live somewhere else song like part of your world, or I want a drastic change in my life. Even people who are experts in their art, and made it their passion can get bored from what they do becoming so routine that they just want something refreshing in their life. A new routine, a new piece of art to work on, etc. As a cosplayer I can feel the same way, it's costumes, the community shit-talking, trying to look out for creepers, and trying to one-up each other. And you can feel extremely burnt out from it from time to time. Even outside of cosplay artists just feel burnt out but their audience just wants more of the same no matter how they feel.
Jack and his song make me think of myself, wishing things were better. For example, I grew up enjoying many 2D animated movies, including ones made by Disney and Don Bluth. But now we have nothing but 3D and live remakes. I wish we had 2D animation back, for I find it to be the true magic of creation.

I love this movie so much. These songs though. Yes.
This song is literally the definition of having everything and yet having absolutely nothing.
Omg I’m so excited my bestie has NEVER seen this movie( so ashamed) so this Friday we are doing a Halloween movie marathon!!! Yay! She’s gonna love it:)
Sorry I’m late but still, Good 4 U
This will never not be my favorite movie of all time.
This is my favorite song in the entire movie. I think my favorite part is,"Oh, there's an empty place in my bones, that calls out for something unknown. The fame and praise come year after year does nothing for these empty tears," and ,"Oh, somewhere deep inside these bones, an emptiness began to grow. There's something out there, far from my home, a longing that I've never known."
Sally: *ah yes, i shouldn't leave him alone. I'll take this free concert.*
best musical movie ever.
I love this song and it’s so good, but “to a guy in Kentucky I’m Mr Unlucky” is funny to me somehow
Oooooh JEAN CLAUDE GOT DAMN!!!! WHEN THAT MAN THAT SINGS JACK'S VOICE HITS THOSE HIGHER NOTES. OOOOOO IT TUGS AT MY HEART!❤❤ I love that man's voice! THIS WHOLE BLOODY SONG OVER POWERS THE OTHERS IN THIS MOVIE. JUST BECAUSE OF THE MELODY AND HIS VOICE. (NOTE: I also VERY MUCH LOVE the other songs in the movie of course.....that should go without even saying....but when it comes to this particular song it just hits my heart different. The other ones are considered FUN to me....but this one. 🫠🫠🫠🥰🥰🥰sigh** melting**)
“ I can take off off my head “
“To recite Shakespearean quotations”

Genie: Hm....
Jack: What is it, Genie?
Genie: Well, YOU have this.... Rudolph has "No Bed Of Roses"...and Tigger has "Someone Like Me". I'm the only one out of all 4 of us who doesn't have a sad song about my life...
Rudolph: Well.....
Tigger: Just wait, you'll make one up eventually. I'm sure of it.
