    It became a hobby to see how many paint I can fit in a palette 😅 without the metal tray I managed to fit 70 half pans in the 48 palette, it's a bit of a mess but at least it work 👌🏼

      Nice! 70 That’s an accomplishment in a 48 palette!!! Thank you

    I have done this too, with mainly the smaller tins to fit as many full or half pans as possible, usually 12 full pans or 21 half pans. Sometimes you do not even need magnets or gummy stuff the strips wedge straight into place and the extra pans hold everything together. I wouldn’t do it with the heavy weight boxes because I like their design with top bars to Ho”d things together, but the cheaper enamelled tins are very cheap and cheerful and very customisable. Such an easy fix, and everything looks neat and good once done. Anyone can do it, and nothing will get spoiled. Not sure I could even handle the weight of a fully customised larger palette though! IMO it is easier to have several smaller ones that don’t break your wrists!

      It is fun to customize, the larger do get a bit heavy, but mine usually stay in the studio. I have skipped the magnets on a few, your right, the tight fit holds them in place. Thank you Lindy.

    I've "broken" my basic palettes, but I hesitated to try with my heavy duty one. I finally tried it today but apparently I bought a really good one - the rails are completely deformed, but they won't come off 😂 I'm going to have to get someone stronger than me to help 😂

    Hi. I wish you had shown an update of your winsor and newton palette too! (Or did you, and did you change your small town with whole and half pans to all half pans?) My metal palette insert has rounded corners. I'm going to grind down the insert corners now you have given me confidence!

      My Windsor and Newton Towny palette has not changed. I love it exactly as it is. It’s a mix of half and full pans. When I finally get it perfect, I don’t mess with it. I have three of these palettes that I have different brands in. They are my favorite, heavy and durable. We have to make these palettes work for us! Thank you.

    depending on the brand you can fit more than 39 in a 24 half pan tin. my record is 48 winsor and newton half pans, i think 42 roman szmal half pans. 25 full pans. Ive learnt to maximise because my disabilities mean i cant use anything bigger than a 36 half pan tin comfortably

    You go it right. We all do it trying to squeeze in as many pans as possible. I never saw those split half pans before. Might have to get some of them. I know it's ridiculous but such is an artist's lot in life.

    • @RaspberryColors
      @RaspberryColors  8 місяців тому

      Yes we then can justify! Lol we’re not taking up any more space. Lots of people are 3d printing those on Etsy, sooo handy those split pans are. Thank you so much.

    Wow. No artist I know uses that many colors. It's interesting to see so so so many colors in a single palette. You'll never have to mix a single thing ever for any painting.

    Dang! You really figured out how to get the most out of each type of palette. Thanks for sharing this. I'm off to find a screwdriver 😂

    🤩 Very nice!! I _hate_ being limited in color choices. 😅👍 I wonder if using a small two-bump lego piece upside-down and filing off the two plastic bumps on the bottom would work for those of us that don't have access to a 3D printer...
    On my XL metal palette I took out the platform the paints clip into completely and stored it aside for possible future use, then removed the flap tray part by sliding out the wire that hinges it to the palette, set it down inside the palette where the other tray used to sit, and affixed my pans to it with small magnets. I get the tiny circular magnets and drop them into the bottom of the half pan before I fill it with paint, then pour the paint ontop of it as with the usual half pan filling, so the pans don't sit up any higher than usual and the magnets are concealed underneath cured paint. (The magnet idea compliments of "Paint Crush with Kristy Rice" UA-cam Channel.) Then if I need to take every single pan out to clean the palette, I get a pair of tweezers or toothpick and lift up the tray they're magnetized to, take it out, and clean as needed.

      The Lego idea is masterful, and so is the hidden magnet. Awesome ideas, thank you.

      Yes they are so helpful. I listed one seller on Etsy but there are quite a few that 3d print them. Thank you.

    This is so helpful!! I appreciate you!! Excellent advice: once the palette is full, you can't buy more of that brand. I will be applying that strategy to my supply shopping. I wanted to mention Della Manga watercolors to you. They are an Italian brand of homemade watercolors. They use discontinued pigments. Thanks again; I am off to build a palette.

      I just started to look into the Della Manga paints, maybe in the near I will get some. I’m glad this helped. It’s a small way I limit myself to saying I have enough. Lol. Thank you.

    I remember watching Miranda on her channel, pulling one of her metal pallets apart and thinking oh my god I never thought of that. It was a game changer but not necessarily a good one for my hip pocket. I also use empty pencil tins as watercolour palettes when I’ve needed to expand I have a 90 Roman Szmals palette they’re all full pants But I will not be going any further with those. Let’s face it 90 is a very large number. I love being able to put more in my palettes I fine with the 48 palette if you move them right up the top even with the five rows, there’s space for a brush if you want one for travelling.

    • @RaspberryColors
      @RaspberryColors  8 місяців тому

      I love the pencil tins or vintage tins of all sorts also. Ooo 90 RS palette, nice! It can get costly, but it’s my thing. I call it my little bit of fancy. Thank you.
