I think there is something very unique-looking about the original Tootsie Pop commercial. This update is rather disappointing. The addition of staging elements (even though the original commercial has almost none) makes the commercial look cheap and generic. I'll give credit for keeping the turtle and owl (basically) on-model, but the boy's brown hair and non-beady eyes really wreck the commercial.
Constructive comment- wouldn't it have been more interesting (and attention -getting) to try a stylized, abstract background, more like the original? The grass and dirt are well-executed, but kind of boring. Animation should take you somewhere it's fun to be. Thanks for posting your work for us.
I appreciate the work that went into this. there's competant modeling, lighting, texturing, etc. but the problem here is one that's rampant in 3D animation - horrible concept. why even waste your time recreating, shot-for-shot, a classic? the original was highly stylized and trying to render those characters in 3D results in off-putting, monsterous eyesores. a little more time needs to be spent in the pre-planning/brainstorming portion of production.
The owl looks fine, more or less like he did in the original, but the kid? Far too much detail with the realistic hair, the face reminds me of "Hoodwinked" and his movement seems completely un-natural. The expression he makes at the end is lacking in any character. Was this remake really necessary, especially when that 2D version is still aired and in people's minds?
Well, they remade it with high tech. computer animation, and it looks all modern, but they couldn't fix the problem of Mr. Owl LITTERING ON THE FOREST FLOOR WITH THE CANDY WRAPPER!!!
Hey look the little boy put on some clothes this time
I like the original better, but I guess I'm biased.
No offense taken.
I'm old school, lol. This is cool af though.
This will never get old lol
Cool, this seems like one of the most realistic remake commercials I've seen, great work! *Whirr*
The scenery looks so good I just wanna lay on the grass lol
Thanks for this work .
It's alright but we should all know by now that Kirby proved it only took zero licks...such a funny ad
Excellent remake!
How long ago was this commercial? I like it, awesome job :)
Thanks. 6 or 7 years ago by now.
***** Dude, this comercial was on TV when I was a kid, and I was born in 1984.
Paul Gaither you saw the 3D version 20 years ago? I expect you mean the original is what you saw on TV.
***** Yes. I thought that was the question. :) Sorry.
Since 1970
well, at least the boy isn't nude like he is in the old commercial
cool stuff
Good job on this really liked it :D
Genius, the graphics are awesome.
That was great.
finnaly that kid puts some clothes on
WOW I like this. It's pretty cool!
nicely done
IT TAKES 3......CLEARLY the owl proves it
great job.
It's over 9,000!!!!
wow dude that's awesome...
Oiy Vey. I havent seen a Tootsie Roll pop in forever. All I can find are those god Damned dum-dums
very cool!
This is madness!
the answer 278
great!
one, a twohoooo, three. My lil sister loves this lol
Chuck Norris knows
awesome
I tried after my 3rd lick...wasn't a good idea :(
SWEET!
i wanna try to find that out!
Chuck Norris wouldn't need to lick it. He can bite the whole thing clean off the stick. He is that strong.
THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW why its aired in korea
IT'S OVER 9000!
...and don't think Tootsie Roll wouldn't remake it this way for "today's audience", either!
cool
if chuck norris was here it would be zero, the tootsie pop simply sweats itself into nothingness out of fear
This is great! Did the uploader make this? Or someone else? Regardless, it's awesome.
@AznGrif777 Fantastic observations! I thought I was the only person germ-phobic enough to notice he handed it back the way he did.
Wow. The kid's not naked in this one!
I would love to try these, unfortunately we don't have them in Australia, though we do have Milo, and Timtams and Vegemite. So Yay us :P
Hmm, I wonder if this guy even knows the original creator posted a nice comment.
I thought it was great! Good job man! :)
creepier than the original
They messed up the tootsie roll commercial!
when was it aired?
it takes like 300-400
it takes 124'210 licks. i tried it before and i was really bored at the time
Can you do Chew-Chew (Choo-Choo) Charlie from the Good n'Plenty Commercial?
I only made it to over 600 before finishing off the rest by biting.
P.S. Is this a real commercial, because I never saw it.
How did u do this??
did they give you color preferences? or was it your pic? cuz I always imagined that kid having blonde hair for some reason
847 licks
yea that would have been creepy
I made a video of this it takes about 420 licks
Original commercial is SO much better.
it just isn't the same
ive done it takes 427 lol
Did you do that yourself? If so, there's the full 60 second ad from 1968 which also includes Mr. Cow and Mr. Fox.
Was this an actual remake?
It was.

fake
At least the kid isn't naked in this one.
It's really well done!
Shame it's not the full version though, I like that one better!
That was neat
he's not naked anymore
An experiment was done at Purdue University and it took an average of 421 licks to get to the center.
YIKES!!! If possible this is even scarier than the original ad... (it used to haunt me as a kid)
This was awesome - good job!
They REALLY should put this ad to the tv,it would earn them popularity.
82 people will never know
i like the older one better but this ones still good
Impressive remake!
Thanks for this work It was great .
it takes 847 licks to t to the center of a tootsie pop
I had no idea this was remade.
This is quite awesome.
nice job on the classic!!
That is incredible animation!
That was really good!
Nice job!!
This is cool!
I would say "epic" or "amazing", but those don't describe it well enough.
That's pretty neat!
"mr turtle how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop"
"That shit rotted out my teeth years ago!"
Well, they remade it with high tech. computer animation, and it looks all modern, but they couldn't fix the problem of Mr. Owl LITTERING ON THE FOREST FLOOR WITH THE CANDY WRAPPER!!!
whoa, that was purty cool
wow sick job, dude.
Awesome!
