    This is something of a counter argument to Kelline Pickett's post...
    The biggest advantage for longevity of a species (at least for about the last 5,000 years) is being useful to People. This has never been more true then it has since about the early 1800's and world wide industrial revolutions that proliferated that era.
    Considering deaths from exposure to toxins, power lines, aircraft strikes, poaching, and even decreases in wild breeding do to loss of habitat and nest disturbing. This is a darn good fit. Birds like this, with this kind of training can help to keep pests off of farms, birds off of airstrips and the like. Because they are useful to us, their survival is assured.
    And, no doubt, we are altering them. They are learning to be group animals. Their descendants will inherit a genetic memory of working together. Because, the more cooperative birds will be the ones that are breed for such desirable traits.
    And, so where this species might go extinct in the face of human expansion. In a future where we are perhaps kinder to the world we inhabit, their descendants may be introduced back into the wild. And, because of their time with humans be far more likely to succeed.

      Agreed. By the way she is speaking, we should neither own dogs, cats, or any sort of animal. In fact, we should probably stop eating meat and vegetables because all of these things that we take for granted are often the production of years and years of modification, both behavioral and genetic.

      I guarantee these birds are better looked after and lead a much more fulfilling life than Kelline's shitty little dog or cat that never gets let out of the house and gets to do nothing of use to anyone. You notice the birds don't just fuck off when their handler runs up to help it? They're a team, and the birds choose to stay with the handler. Given half a chance, your braindead shih-tzu would run out in traffic while you frantically called it from your doorstep, just to end it's pathetic, miserable existence.

    • @The1Helleri
      @The1Helleri 10 років тому +1

      Rusty Shackleford
      That seriously brought a tear to me eye I from laughing so hard. Brain dead shih-tzu running happily into traffic to end it's pathetic life...good stuff, lol.
      And, a good point too. These are wild animals. And, their traits as wild animals are what we find desirable. So, they are not in any real danger of ever being inbred.
      We are never going to see a tea cup eagle in some woman's purse (something that literally shivers from the simple act of actually being that ridiculous and living).
      We want these to keep their wild streak and hunters heart. And, we owe them a good life for the fact that we have made it harder for them to have one on their own.
      And, you can't just turn these things loose, either. Eagles mate for life. They probably see their trainers/handlers as their mates. If some radical environmentalist 'sets them free' their condemning the birds to a level of stress that will probably kill them.
      like I said before. this is a good fit. A role in which we can coexist. And both of the species benefit.

    Some of the comments really made me laugh. Buy it chicken from the supermarket so animals don't suffer? Lol. Like the chicken in the supermarket didn't suffer a miserable short life. Come on.
    Thanks for sharing the video. You're a lucky man to share a relationship with a bird like that.

    Everyone who comments along the lines of "wow you disgust me how can you kill innocent animals like that?", you need to use your brain, and realize that the eagle wouldn't be a vegetarian in the wild. The only things the people in the videos do is help direct the eagle's, flush prey, and end the suffering of the animals.

    • @kaewgigliuto2407
      @kaewgigliuto2407 9 років тому +4

      You could just fly the eagles and buy them some chicken at the end of the day.
      I do it with a kite I found when it was young, no need for it to kill anything, the fucking supermarket is full of chicken, duck and turkey that have all been humanely killed.

    A friend and I discovered a nesting pair of golden eagles preying exclusively on sharp tailed grouse and prairie chickens. That was a real eye opener for us, as we are both fly Jerkins at prairie grouse, and know how challenging they are to catch. Wild eagles are incredible!

  • @kevinbarksdale7897

    I would sit here and hit LIKE for ten minutes straight if I could. This was very incredible. I actually had goose bumps watching this. Your choice of back ground music was perfect as well. These creatures are beautiful both in flight, and perched. Where I live we have a good variety of birds of prey. One of my simple pleasures in life is watching as they circle in the sky. It also a thrill to see them fishing. Though sometimes they can be very annoying. I once watched a bald eagle bring a salmon out of the river. The fish had to be at least 20 pounds. The eagle took it to the top of a dead tree on the far bank. When he pecked at it the fish jumped, slipping from the eagles grasp, and feel to the bank. For some reason the eagle did not retrieve the salmon but took off instead. When my oldest was 6 years old I took her fishing at Galesville Reservoir in Oregon. Ospreys were out over the reservoir circling, my daughter asked what they were doing. I explained they were doing the same thing we were, looking for a good place to fish. She asked me how they caught fish without fishing poles. One of the ospreys we were watching answered her question for her. We were both amazed how long the hawk was under water, but learned why, the salmon was HUGE. The osprey came out of the water flying towards the far bank, but the fish was so heavy and fighting hard the bird was having trouble getting off the surface of the water. Thankfully I had my binoculars that day as we were able to watch the salmon be taken up to the top of a tree where the osprey had a nest full of little ones.

    @Kelline Pickett do you know what the average lifespan of a feral cat is? How about a feral dog? For a cat, it is 3 to 5 years. In captivity, 17-20. Ever see how much happier a cat or dog in captivity seems compared to their feral counterparts? I've watched feral cats in our neighborhood, and compared them to ours. Ours play multiple times a day. Even as adult cats, they play, and they play even more than the very young cats/kittens we see in the neighborhood.
    Instead of using emotion, use logic. These birds could fly away if they chose to. But, do they? No. Why not? Training? Hardly. Safety; They feel safer with their human counterparts who make sure their every need is taken care of.
    Your reasoning falls flat. Now, if those birds were locked up in cages and not flown, then you might have a point. But these birds are not abused. They are loved and very well cared for.

      Such a silly argument. It's like saying put a lion in a zoo and it will live longer. Animals are not toys, an animal needs to be left in it's natural habitat to live it's life, no matter how long or short that is - and THAT is nature. Look at the list of critically endangered species - through loss of habitat, greed or war created by, yes, humans.

      the cool thing about falconry is the raptors are all wild animals, they are never pets. you cant fully train them, they choose to come back every hunt. they come back because they know that with the hunter they have a very stable food source and safety they wouldn't have in the wild. they also have access to proper nutrition, medical attention, and the right amount of exercise. unlike pets and zoo animals, raptors used in falconry can be released back into the wild at any point, and mostly in way better shape then when they were captured.

    The place where I hunt reindeer......(Norway) it is golden egales in the wild. They hunt reindeer now an then.
    Calves are no match for the egales but the adult ones are more tricky. They puncture their lungs and wait until the reindeer is dead. Easy meal. The golden egale are great birds and great hunters as well......again.....great video.

    I like the concept of man and eagle tag-teaming to bring down deer. The eagle can find the deer and catch it but probably can't bring it down, but all it has to do here is slow it down enough for the man to catch up and finish it.

      Where is this? I wish there was a bit of information as to where this is exactly. For me this would be a great way to hunt. I'm an Australian and we have Wedge Tailed eagles, probably not as big as a Golden Eagle, but still very large. I've seen them take out goats in the Flinders Ranges in my state of South Australia. Unfortunately a few decades ago farmers would shoot them because they killed sheep. There was a story of a female that was shot and she had a wing span of 12 feet, so the story said. This would be such a good way to hunt, these ppl are very lucky to be able to do this

    Falconry, Hawking, etc; it is not about "owning" a bird of prey. The art of falconry is unique in that wild hawks and falcons do not "love" their companions like a dog or cat does. Falconry is a connection to the wild, it is raw. The eagle,hawk, falcon, does not care about the falconer. The raptor is smart enough to know where the food comes from, so it returns to the falconer. There is a deep connection built when training a raptor, a bond deeper than teaching a dog to sit. Falconers and their birds share a connection that no other human can share with any other animal. As an aspiring falconer, I can say that people need to wake up and realize that these animals are not our pets.

    The raptor hunting video is amazing. Can you indicate if they need assistance now to hunt or are you doing this as a part of research and training.

    Falconry a majestic practice with an almost religious overtone. One does not just do falconry, one lives, eats, and breaths it. To establish a true partnership between man and raptor without the illusion of ownership, this my friends is true falconry in its purest form. I hope one day to accomplish a partnership between myself and a magnificent raptor, to be able to call myself a falconer.

    Awesome vid Nenad, not only do you show the birds' successes, you show the prey getting one over on the birds.

    Maybe you should learn a bit more about Falconry & Raptor Conservation and it's practitioners before spouting your ill-informed opinions.
    Golden Eagles(Aquila chrysaetos) come under CITEs regulations, so yes, these are captive bred birds. The taking of wild birds is ILLEGAL, except under special license by certain authorities to help with breeding programs, such as have been used to help re-introduce species where they were once common but were persecuted so badly they disappeared from certain areas/countries, some good examples are;
    North America, Falconers helped get dwindling Golden Eagle numbers back to healthy breeding populations in quite a few states.
    Scotland, reintroduction of White-tailed Sea-Eagle(Haliaetus albicilla) with help of birds from Norway, and the Red Kite(Milvus milvus) with the help of birds from Wales. Sadly the Red Kites have been in the news as a good number of them along with Common Buzzards(Buteo buteo) have been found poisoned, the ignorance of a few, spoiling the good work these fine people have worked years for !!!
    On a personal note Kelline, hunting with these birds does not make one feel important, it's a bit like the relationship you may have with say, the family cat or dog but it goes far deeper, the time spent manning a young hawk/falcon, training till he/she is fit and lean enough to take them out into the field, all the misses till he/she makes their first kill and see he/she progress in their aerobatic and hunting skills...
    One doesn't feel important, far from it, one feels nothing but honoured to to work and hunt with these "majestic" birds, at least that's how it is from my perspective Kelline, I've no doubt there are some that are like "OH, look at me, I've got a big-ass bird on my glove", but I can assure you, from my experience,they are few.
    As for "go get your own food" .....by any chance are you vegetarian ???

      Seruiosly, if you knew what it took to get these eagles to the fitness it requires to take hare, pheasant, deer.....NOT easy prey for an Eagle to take solo...., it's only due to the fact that bird "knows" it has a partner, that will do more than it can that it will take prey as large as FOX, Deer etc.......

    I don't get why people hate stuff like this. For one: falcons and eagles are birds of prey. They chase, attack, and kill animals in nature for food. People who hunt with these birds are often hunting animals for food or to get rid of pests that cause harm to crops or livestock. This isn't cruelty. It's predatory birds doing what they do best!

    Wow! A deer! That must be one proud eagle. Question when hunting with raptors do you have to abide by deer season rules? Did you tag the deer afterwards?
