#59 Trying To Fix A DRAINAGE Problem in the Field
Вставка

- In this video, I'm back in our main field in the muddy spot, which is in an area I subsoiled a few weeks ago. Water still collects in the low spot, so I'm going to attempt to grade along the field edge. I hope this gets water to drain in the woods and gets the low spot to dry out.
This is the video I mentioned in the video where I used the subsoiler the first time: • #46 Using the Countyli...

Good work. There's always something to do right? Enjoyed the video.
looks like your making progress.
That's how my whole 11acres is. With the hardpan it holds water like a number 2 wash tub
You look like you are getting very comfortable with the use of your tractor. I know we have a couple of low spots that need attention, just been to wet to get to them. I was hoping maybe this weekend, but now we are getting the leftover rain from the hurricane/tropical storm here in Southern Illinois.
Keep up the great work!
Good luck with the rain. It looks like its heading right toward a lot of folks who don't need it.
Phil, Have you considered the hay sock looking things. I dont know the proper term but they are like hay packed in a mesh bag lol. The issue you are having isnt the volume of water yet the SPEED the water is flowing at. If you can slow down the water you will likely slow down the wash out rate. Just some ideas. You are on the right track with moving the dirt like you did but the torpedo hay tube things will help slow the water flow rate and they will act as a screen to hold some sediment! Let me know what you think! Just some suggestions!
I have seen those. I'll keep an eye on it now that I got it all tore up to see if speed causes erosion. I have a bunch of old straw bales I can drop in place if needed.
@@WoodsTreeFarm Yeah I am no expert but I have seen those before at another family members home and they seem to help in some ways! Looking forward to keeping up on your videos!
Good thing about dirt, you can move it where you need to. Hope it helps with the draining issues. I don't know if it would help, but maybe brushhog that area also.
New subscriber here! Thanks for sharing. Nice property!
Thanks!
try a MIDDLE BUSTER aka POTATO PLOW for trenching. u can hook a box blade, landscaping rake, front end loader in it even a rototiller to break up / soft the soil for easer movement
Thanks for the tips!
Use your box blade to make a ditch. Angle your box blade to the highest and lowest point.
That's wrong. You need to make a ditch running along the CONTOUR.
I can empathize with your drainage issue. Cliffside Acres has a few spots like that too. Tim
If this doesn't do the trick, I'm going to put in drain tile. I have another section that doesn't have as much slope that's worse than this where I plan to do tile eventually
From the last camera angle it looks like you have the the right slope , has the slime fixed the leak on your mower.
All seems well with the mower. Ran it around for about 2.5 hours today.
Looks Great!
Who edits your videos?
You guys really seem to work hard on the videos!
How long do they take to process and upload?
I (Phil) do all the videos. It usually takes me between 1.5-2.5 hours to get a video published.
all you did was make a mess your drainage problem is still there. You need to use a subsoiler and open up some slits in the ground to allow the water to m ove.
Thanks for your concern, but your statement is inaccurate. I did previously subsoil in video 46 (ua-cam.com/video/Qe-s2MmvsxY/v-deo.html). This grading work improved things considerably and this area has been dry ever since.
Why won't you learn about swales?
Won't learn? Don't think so. Just haven't yet. I have a lot to learn about a lot of things. Thanks for watching!
