I have both the 275 and the 575 and you missed that the 275 speaker is DOWN FIRING and the 575 is UP FIRING. That makes a slight difference and may make you add the auxiliary external 4x4 speaker to get the sound to fire at your face in a noisy environment. BOTH can be sound from base, handset or both the base and the handset - that's nice. BTW --> do NOT install the 575 on an already fused circuit like you said! It has fuses of it's own and needs to be directly wired to the battery + and - posts to keep alternator buzz away. The 575 has provision for a PA speaker too - and although I have not used it that way yet --- I have also missed the setting for it - it must be there - somewhere!
Hello, thanks for watching, and great suggestions. I love that both give you the option of speaker in the headunit or the microphone. I've currently got it set to the microphone as the speaker and it sounds great! I don't really have any use of a PA but that's a nice feature. I'll have to look at wiring it directly to the battery.
They really made it simple by including a antenna thats pre matched . This means the swr is probably close and makes the hole package on average work better than the average un tuned cb.
I know it doesn't sound like it, but the 35 extra watts doesn't get you as much of an increase in range as you think it will. Assuming you're using the same antenna mounted in the same location, you need 10x the power to get 2x the range, generally speaking. Best thing you can do for your range is have a good antenna mounted in a good location.
All good points. Another I didn't realize was true was the loss of efficiency that you might find if you coil your coax too tightly. Lots of aspects to consider.
@@TheRightLine the type of coax in general can have an effect, as some have less shielding/coating than others. Another thing that can cause loss is multiple connectors/adaptors.
Any updates on the antenna situation?? I tried calling Midland and they were oblivious to even knowing there is a MXT575 let alone what antenna can I use?? Considering the MXTA26 with a MXTA27 mount. Radio is on order should be here Saturday I'm just trying to figure out the antenna situation the magnetic supplied antenna doesn't work well in fiberglass roof as a Jeep is
Any rumors on availability date ... besides "coming summer 2022" on their website? Neat seeing the 575 and 275 side-by-side. However, that's cheating mounting it overhead ... an MXT500 would fit there.
@@TheRightLine ... I am excited about being able to hide the main "box" and only have the mike and cord showing inside the cabin. With the handheld 1000 series, one can tune in the correct channel, then lock the buttons and have no fear that the wrong button will get pushed later and the conversation lost. Is the "button lock" feature available on the 575? Since you have more experience with the 275, is it available on the 15 watt unit?
@@TheRightLine ... it's not a show stopper, but would be good to know. I set up my 1000 series handhelds and loan them to folks who don't have GMRS units. Locking up the buttons helps make sure they don't lose the channel. BTW ... about two thirds of the folks I loan them to end up buying a set. GMRS handhelds are better than the CB built in units.
I like what I see in the 575 and am looking forward to it coming out. I was wondering where you mounted the antenna since it has a magnetic base . I guess I could come up with a different location for the antenna , if not your idea would work for me too . Just out of curiosity how long would you say the antenna coax is ? Great video again Chad , take care my friend and catch you on your next video.
Mounted it to the cowling. I think I might buy a HMO connector and make a different mount to get the antenna up higher. I forgot how long it was I wanna say 10 ft I can't remember. Thank you and thank you for watching sir.
@@TheRightLine Thank you for your reply Chad . I will check into it when it becomes available . Taring my TJ apart on Friday to start all of my steering and axle upgrades as well as ball joints . Trying to get it ready so you and myself can do some wheeling at the end of the year. I will keep you posted . @@TheRightLine Good to hear that. Over the decades I have seen so many 50 Watt radios that claimed they did not need a fan because of heavy duty heat sinking, etc. They were all wrong. Long keydowns at 50W will get very hot.
This radio will definitely cater to some but not cater to all. There is a radio for everyone. From the experience I've had with GMRS and ham, I personally would rather have the Midland after my experiences. Thank you for watching.
The radio has an inline fuse. No need to get fancy with it.
You can use that MidlandUSA 6db gain antenna on the 575.
Yes you can. The ghost 3db as well.

Can't go wrong it's a great radio!

Everything about gmrs is super easy and simple.
The thing is, as strange times approach, there is a sudden move to these new radios, which broadcast an identification number with every transmission.
Kinda bummed I just bought and installed the MTX275!
I still love my 275! Though, the 575 is my new favorite.
@@TheRightLine Would the 275’s ghost antenna plug and play?
Yes, you can use a ghost antenna and the 275. Great combination.

You are absolutely correct. And as high as possible.
I've heard that just because they're 50 watts doesn't mean they are transmitting with 50 watts.
I'm sure that could be true in certain circumstances. There is a lot of other considerations including weather and terrain.
@@TheRightLine it's 100% true. There's always a certain level of power loss as the signal travels along the coax, as well as depending on your SWR.

Yes Bill, you can use the 3db and 6db antennas on the MXT575.

No word yet. I'm a fan of the controls in the mic. I don't think I'd have a 500. But the 575 fits perfectly there 😀. Thank you for watching.

I didn't see anything about a button lock on the 575 and I don't recall one on the 275. Hmm, I'll have a look and let you know.

I don't see a lock button on my mics. My ham radio has one and it would be nice to have. Handhelds are definitely better than CB units.

Fan wouldn't hurt but no problems so far.

This is just too expensive for gmrs, there’s better radios out for less. If it was 299 instead of 399 it would be more competitive
