As a 5/6 on paper (dealing with family health issues that seriously affects the mental side of it) there are many of the 7/9s that understand that I play the rack not the player. Playing this way you can stay in a good mental state and let the balls roll easily, even when facing difficult shots or very precise shapes. Be like water

Dang Josh, I'm addicted to your videos. Great vids for us amateurs.. At 8:45, I thought Terri made the right call by going high right. But that said, her cue ball control was excellent on that shot, so yeah....I little bit of risk. I think her preference was a closer shot and risk the position. She's good.

I feel you on the 11.8 shaft with a soft tip... same issue but i have closer to 11.25. Only 'jump' I'm getting is when I have to hurdle over .01mm of the edge of a ball lol... tough match!

Lol well something I regularly practice and do in certain circumstances is that I have been known to play an entire match with just my break cue. 13mm with a g10 tip/ferrule combo. Plays similar to a cuesoul heavy hitter which is a leather break tip. Jumps fairly easily as my break cue weighs 16oz (speed over power)

I will be interested to learn when you hear back from the A.P.A. What explanation,if any, they offer you. As I understand the issue they did not over step there authority but they did not have the evidence to bar a member in good standing from table league play. From my point of view they owe you an explanation and apology . At least insurance that this kind of indignity will not happen again without a definable offense. It’s not the best marketing plan to embarrass a member without being able an articulate a dam good reason. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. I trust the outside problems work themselves out. I literally do not get your comment. Why would you ease up because you are playing a female? I know many many females that would run the average pool playing male over. Come on over to the Philippines and walk into a pool hall and bar and play a female - you will never relax playing one again. Also, hey, this is almost 2024 - males should have evolved a bit more by now.

I have watched a lot of your videos and sometimes during the video I am thinking "WTF was that!" Either easy missed shots or shooting the ball really hard for no apparent reason. I also think you have a tendency to shoot runouts that are above your pay grade or skill level. You could be a very very good player with some serious top notch coaching - you certainly have enough talent where a good coach could jump your game way up.
As far as playing a girl I don't think you took this player lightly because she was a woman - but maybe you did. Being good at pool has nothing to do with being male or female. Come on over to the Philippines, walk into a bar or pool hall, take a woman player lightly and literally get run over and embarrassed.
My wife is Filipina and her goal in EVERY match she plays is to make the "player get on their knees and cry like a baby." There are a lot of really good women players. On a side note, hopefully the APA rules in your favor as you are real benefit to the APA and the prick that caused you problems is a detriment to the APA.

I agree about the coaching. Wish i had access to a good coach. I didn't care that she was a girl but, it makes for a good title and thumbnail. Remember, this is also a UA-cam channel and i try to get people to click and watch! I appreciate the comment and support!

These type of comments are always wierd, and make me think the commentor is a newer player. Are you saying he should be perfect? I watch and play a lot of the top players in our state, guys that have been in the top 100 US in fargo, and they miss easy shots sometimes (less than most, but still), and sometimes get frustrated and take a bad shot, or shoot harder than they should. If you think you play better, feel free to record some matches and post them so we can admire your perfection.

@@AdamMarr LOL, I am far from a newer player. Been playing for a long long time against very good players - and I know a potentially really good player when I see one.
Josh has that ability, but he needs to really refine his game. And Josh likes to joke around a lot, but I have no doubt he would absolutely LOVE to be a really good player.
Three months of coaching from a very good coach, and discipline by Josh, and his game would skyrocket. Well, maybe more than three months but the foundation is there.
By the way, I was told the same thing a number of years ago. I used to practice at a place in Manila for hours - and there was a guy that would come in every morning to have breakfast and he would watch me practice.
He never once said a thing to me. Ever.
He and some of his family members would eat their breakfast, have their coffee, and just watch.
It was the most nerve wracking time of my life as far as practice goes. Why?
Because his name is Efren Reyes.
Finally one morning, as they were leaving, one of Efren's friends or family members (not sure) paid the waitress and walks over to me and says "young man, you can play some. You could be good. But you need a good coach to structure your practice better and teach you things you don't know well right now."
And he was EXACTLY right. My comments are not to come down hard on Josh, but I have seen many guys like Josh. They are good solid players for APA leagues, but they never reach another level because they don't put in the time or have the right coaching.
I love watching amateur players play because it seems more real to me. The pros, and I have met many, make the game look so easy it almost doesn't seem real.
Let me give you another example: In the exact same place, about six years ago, a guy walks in where I and a number of other foreigners and Filipinos are playing.
Some of us were really solid players. Not pro, but almost everyone of us would fairly easily beat an APA 7 or 8. Some of us could play well.
This guy proceeds to play a bit and is absolutely amazing. He is doing things with the cue ball and making shots that almost didn't seem possible. It was obvious he was a top player.
Even though I follow pool a lot I did not realize at first, or expect a guy like this to be in a bar playing pool in Makati, Manila.
His name is Mike Immonen. A GREAT player in the 2000's and still a very good player.
I also played in a pool hall in Makati where the great Bustamante was playing. Just watching him break was amazing and frightening. I don't think anyone has ever hit the break harder than Francisco.
As I was playing a match I was also watching him play. These guys and gals are where they are at because they put in the hours (the right way) and most of them got coaching.
No one can tell me that all of us that are at Josh's level, or below, don't want to run racks like Gorst, SVB, Filler, and guys like that. Of course we do! It is highly unlikely we would ever reach that level - but you never know.
Playing the games are NOT the way to get better, dedicated practice and practicing with purpose is the way to get better.
So my biggest advice to guys that take pool seriously, like Josh, is to get good coaching if you can. A good coach sees your game from a different perspective and really knows how to sand the rough edges off.
Josh's biggest issue right now is too many missed shots, bad position play, and wanting to run racks with patterns that do not fit his shot making ability. So, basically, his game needs to be refined.
And finally, I am sure Josh will see this comment and I hope Josh that you have some thicker skin. My comments are meant to help. I really enjoy your channel and would love to see you become a much better player - because I really think you could.
As far as coaching, there are a lot of really good players that offer coaching - and just a few sessions can make a big difference.
The guy I would love to get as a coach is Tor Lowry. His thoughts on pool and his teaching methods are right in line with many players like Gorst and some of the top Asian players.
Ok, long comment here. Just want to make sure my comments are known to come from a lot of experience and from really wanting guys like Josh to focus in and raise their games.

@@jamesdavis8731 post like that should come with a TLDR, but I can sum it up, youve seen a few pros, and one day someone told you to get a coach. I have also met Efren and Mika and Boosty at various tournaments (some 20+ yrs ago), and I don't think they are great examples, including the other players you named Josh, SVB, Gorst, as they all started very very young. Efren at 5yr or so, Mika as a young teen, Fransico at 10 or 11, SVB as a young kid, Josh was winning tourneys at 13, Gorst was also a top level jr. Not to mention those guys practice like its a full time job (8+hrs a day). Those guys didn't become great ball makers and players because of a coach. I'm not saying a coach is a bad idea, though I know quite a few "coaches" who coach pool for money and can say for sure Josh probably knows more than they do. "Good" practice and structure is important certainly, but you don't need a coach for that. And telling an amatuer (as we all are) who posts his games for people to watch that he misses easy shots (like we all do from time to time) and plays bad position (which we all do from time to time) isn't constructive, its just rude.

Very well said. I used to play a lot. Won many tournaments and had a great time but I have to say the greatest satisfaction I got was from coaching other players. These were just ordinary, everyday Joes but showing them the proper way to stroke the ball and the basics of using english and how it makes both the cue and object ball react was really fun for me. Their skill level went up and as a consequence they were having a lot more fun playing the game. That just made it easier to advance to the next level.
I'd love to see Josh get some quality instruction because you're right, the foundation is there. It just needs to be polished a bit.@@jamesdavis8731
