THIS The problem with the Groove is that they are wildly different from disc to disc. I can look at a Destroyer and have an idea of how flippy it will be. I've thrown identical (as far as I can tell) Grooves back to back and gotten completely different flights. One was super stable and the other was a flip machine, but I have no idea why the one was flippy and the other was stable.
I have a completely Discraft bag, am such a fanboy, but there’s one exception… two Champ Shrykes, I keep two on rotation beating them in super slow. They are such an underrated disc, I can’t wait for your Shryke video!
When I first got a Groove I thought the grooved rim was meant for my index finger to sit. Still throw one finger forehands with it today! If you can get one that isn’t too overstable, it usually gives me a full S-line flight
I actually bag two grooves. One in champ the other in echo star and they really excel at getting a decent flight and limiting ground play because of how much they dump at the end
I bag one as well but I have since I found one when I started and I've never had the problems most people have with them. I guess you either groove or don't
I’m the guy that goes into freezing water for a disc too. We had some snow run off here in a river and the water was below freezing. Felt like knives. When I came out, I didn’t even notice the goat heads sticking in my feet until I sat down to put my shoes in.
Interesting video! Anthony, have you looked at the Innova halo charger? It is a top of a destroyer and a Shryke bottom. Could be a step from the Interval.
Had this problem with the splice. Board flat, but the disc had the same problem with the flashing. The disc naturally wants the fly nose up because it has more surface area on the bottom side, so if you're throwing with these kids of discs, you'll have to micro adjust to where you're throwing a little more nose down and REALLY make sure you're throwing flat. They're still going to want to hyzer out really hard but you'll be able to get a bit more turn out of it. Three with the synapse (glow plastic) like this and this was how i got my first over 400 foot throw
No joke, just got a used replacement Groove in the mail yesterday because I lost mine last month. I love the Groove! Mine definitely held true to the -2 turn and flipped up nicely. I have a Monarch too and it's super flippy
Will you do a review on Viking Discs? In my opinion it is a really underrated brand. Especially the Ragnarok and the Axe are keep components in my bag. Really reliable and super durable in the armor plastic
I own a star shryke it is a bit touchy, but it can bomb, I have a star and champ mystere (11/6/-2/2). My wave is great too but imo less distance than the mystere's.
I bag an under stable groove I bought used (no flashing) in 2009. My forehand is stronger off the tee, so the groove reacts truer to its numbers with the extra torque. However, with my slower backhand drives it tends to flip up to flat and ride for days, sometimes out driving my side arm. I've heard that later runs of the disc tend to be on the meathook side of things and watching your vid seems to prove that. Great vid!!
I love my shryke. One of my favorite drivers. I first had a GStar but my second time throwing it was into a lake but then got a star. The star is a bit more overstable than the GStar but I can still get it really far when I need it to.
I watched a video from iceberg that he threw his timelapse in concrete for 50 shots and he said the disc got more glide after. Is that new or beat in time lapse?I don't have the arm.bur was curious
Fun fact: I own both a champion shryke and a c blend Pharaoh. I measured the rim width and they are identical. The shaping is almost indistinguishable also. I’d dare to say they are exactly the same. Infinite may just be using an older shryke mold. Flight wise there isn’t much difference between the two.
Groove’s weirdness with the wing seems to make it way more overstable if thrown nose up. And its rim shape makes it much more likely to throw it nose up.
My very first disc was a Groove. I played DG once in a wide open course, loved it so I went to Play it Again Sam and knowing NOTHING about discs saw a "factory second" bright yellow disc for $10. Then I went to a wooded course, my second time ever playing, and realized I needed to throw my yellow disc WAY right if I wanted it to land straight. I still have it 8 yrs later on my wall now.
I can't throw my time-lapse on Anhyzer unless I side-arm it. So it is amazing for shaped shots. Like the groove, you can do some speeder bike stuff in the woods for those weird side arm shots around corners that need a dependable turn every time.
I have lots of shrykes I throw 320'-400' depending on earth's gravitational field that day. Stars are quite flippy and bomb but halos are $$$ for people pushing 400' with a little turn but still glide for days.
Its so funny when you were with Drew trying to throw far I was hoping you would pick up a disc like a Shryke, no reason not to throw it, it is a fantastic option for extra distance.
Hiii! I just started recording disc golf with my GoPro 11! I was wondering what software you use for video editing? I'm trying to figure out how to zoom in on the disc but I can't get that figured out, hope you can help :)
Years ago I had a groove that flew like some sort of mutant stiletto- would literally give me a 90 degree turn. This was the days before Internet forums and UA-cam. I was concerned I got some sort of weird anomaly but I was told that was typical at the time. I was not sad when it went to a watery grave. Well, a little cuz I didn’t have any money for another disc.
I'm no fan of the Groove, but I bag and love a Monarch. The weird lip thing is smaller, which makes all the difference. I bag a super old, low weight, glow Monarch. It's super glider, but always fades at the end. I throw it for backhands, forehands, and forehand rollers.
Time Lapse found a spot for me as my bomber forehand disc. Always been a slight anny release on forehands and it's almost perfect stability for me. Can push it to 350-360 and it is just more reliable than the Rive it is replacing.
Shryke is maybe my favorite disc.. you should try a Champion Tern since you said you have smaller hands its like a Shryke but smaller rim for smaller hands i like to sidearm the Champion Tern.. dont get a star tho too understable
On the topic of discs that you can grip well, can you try to find (sorry, not available new BUT not too rare or expensive) and test out the Frost Line XXX from Lat64 on a forehand. I've been absolutely LOVING IT. And the Gold Line Striker by Lat64 as it feels "bulkier" in hand (not huge) than most other discs at that speed so I can confidently release it with power on a backhand compared to a lot of other alternatives. And one more would be Prodiscus Ultrium Razeri, the plastic is like between the Star and Gstar plastics, the stability is close to a Destroyer (maybe a bit less OS, but close) but they are available board FLAT so they feel way better with a forehand grip imo. Could make a cool video, diving a bit deeper into how the feel of the disc affects results. 🤷🏻
You should see if you can get a purple Time Lapse. Simon said those are flippier, but of course, “flippier” for Simon is a little different than for the rest of us.
Yo Bodanza, have you seen Simon’s new video testing his new discs/plastics? The Proton run Timelapse look like what the Timelapse was always meant to be! Although it is Simon throwing them lol.
The groove is meant to decrease weight on the wide rim, because if I recall correctly, a straight-walled design would've been either overweight or locked into the max weight range. Blizzard plastic wasn't launched yet at that time.
I throw LHFH, and a 167g Star Shryke absolutely opened up my game. So many Anhyzer L to R lines I can hit now. I can’t consistently get it to always S, but at my local courses I honestly need it to L to R no fade more often than not. Absolute park jobs 290-330. Shots I’d always seen in my mind and could never execute. Get a Shryke. Especially if you are LH and can’t BH drives like me lmao
I really hate the feel of flashing as the disc comes out of the hand, even just a little, so I just sand every disk i buy. It takes me less than 5 minutes and completely changes the feeling. If you do it right the mold edges feel just as smooth as any other part of the disk. I start with 80 girt. I keep sanding until the disk stops making a scratchy sound when lightly sliding orthogonally across the fingers. Then i quickly go 120 grit, 240 grit and 360 grit. Quickly remove any sanding dust after every paper, i usually just wipe it off with my hand. There is a big difference in feeling between the higher and lower grits and going coarse-to-fine makes the process fast, especially for the higher grits.
I bought those shoes just b/c I wanted some new Vivo's, and then realized in about August watching DGN that every pro and their mother wears them too. They are sick shoes, too pricey for me to beat up playing disc golf though
I bought a monarch in champ plastic for my gf because the flight numbers. I tried throwing it and it wouldnt turn on hyzer release but then would turn and burn on a flat/anhyzer disc is awful. groove is good
Colors seem to make a huge difference in the Time Lapse. Try a blue or purple 170-172 and tell me it’s not the disc for you. My blue 172 vs buddies 175 pink fly like different molds.
Lizotte in recent video said he like 14 speeds over 12 speeds he said the 14 speed gets to target faster and a 12 speed you have to juice it more to get same distancees.. he said find a nuetral 14 speed that beats into slightly under stable basically
The Groove was the easiest disc to hate for me. I got an F2 Star Shryke last Christmas, and it was one of the easiest decisions to add to the bag. They’re wonderful
Weight of the groove? Why use a factory second? Why use glow champion plastic which is known to be more Overstable than numbers listed? Why not use an under 170 Groove in star or pro plastic?
I'm late to the party, so no one will probably read this. But HALO SHRYKE is ridiculous! That little extra stability makes all the difference. Everyone should get one
Before watching this could from the disc in the video absolutely be a Banana Frolf one, but lets see if you can make the "meme" disc that just seems inconsistent between runs and a bit fickle in wind a Bodanza-video ;)
It's less about trusting UDisc, and more trusting the GPS-measurements and removing about 15' ;P The Shryke have different numbers depending on plastic, one of the few Innova-molds having that, I were sorta correct about this if not filmed at the complete quality level like this is more of a Banana Frolf one, but I get it not being due to effort/meme-level ;) Groovy ;)
The thing that the Groove was hated for the most was the incredibly inconsistent production. ONe would be flippy, the next one a meathook etc. Of course you can not test that with just one of them :)
Try that Groove in any kind of wind. Even 5 mph. You'll spend the entire round trying to guess what it's going to do. I still own 2, but man are they finicky
Funny you compared it to the Timelapse because the groove is basically antigyro technology. Innova created a disc with less material on the rim to make a lightweight driver before blizzard plastic was invented.
So I haven’t watched the video yet but I’ll say some runs are beefy and other runs are just inconsistent making it hard to predict the flight. That’s why it is one of the most hated discs ever made.
I 100% agree wiht you! This run of the time lapse just isnt it! Simons latest video make the proton look like what i want so imma give that a go but even the fission looks beef!
It's a weird disc. For me it flies very long and straight, like a fairway control driver, and then dumps itself to the left. I kinda like it but also don't like it. I have discs that do about the same, like maybe Anax and L64 Blitz, and these are all flat discs.
Got the wrong groove. That’s what makes it a “bad” disc is it’s wildly inconsistent. My first two years of playing I bagged many grooves had to trade away the ones that didn’t fly the way I liked. The ones that actually fly true to the numbers are great.
I knew the millisecond he tried giving the groove flight numbers he was already over his head on this POS disc. lol The groove's main downfall is how comically different one can be from the other from even the same run.
The Groove's numbers are 100% BS and I feel like that is why it was never accepted. IMO it is more like a 11/4/0/3. I feel like if it was marketed differently it wouldn't have been hated as much. The Shryke is the furthest flying disc for people who can't throw a destroyer or boss. The problem with the shryke is if you have big arm then it is a roller disc or extreme hyzer flip disc. The star shryke is the best, the halo flies pretty poorly though. I haven't tried the champ, but the Star is money if you have an arm too big for a Katana and too small for Destroyer.
The real challenge is a Groove vs. Groove
THIS
The problem with the Groove is that they are wildly different from disc to disc. I can look at a Destroyer and have an idea of how flippy it will be. I've thrown identical (as far as I can tell) Grooves back to back and gotten completely different flights. One was super stable and the other was a flip machine, but I have no idea why the one was flippy and the other was stable.
Groove vs monarch plz
The best way I've heard the Groove described is that each one is a unique snowflake of suck.
I have a completely Discraft bag, am such a fanboy, but there’s one exception… two Champ Shrykes, I keep two on rotation beating them in super slow. They are such an underrated disc, I can’t wait for your Shryke video!

I bag one as well but I have since I found one when I started and I've never had the problems most people have with them. I guess you either groove or don't
Disc Golf Jesus is a huge Groove supporter. Granted he throws everything forehand on a steep chop angle, so maybe that’s the shot!
Also just got a Star Shryke in the Trash Panda disc swap. Highly recommend for bombs
I’m the guy that goes into freezing water for a disc too. We had some snow run off here in a river and the water was below freezing. Felt like knives. When I came out, I didn’t even notice the goat heads sticking in my feet until I sat down to put my shoes in.

Could be a step from the Interval.
Halo Groove for DGJ!!!
Had this problem with the splice. Board flat, but the disc had the same problem with the flashing. 8:13 I had a dude throw a disc back to me after I told him to leave it. It’s like a thoughtful yet somehow disrespectful thing at the same time.
They have no idea what you’re doing
No joke, just got a used replacement Groove in the mail yesterday because I lost mine last month. I love the Groove! Mine definitely held true to the -2 turn and flipped up nicely. I have a Monarch too and it's super flippy
I really want to buy you a disc retriever pole and a Golden Retriever thing for Christmas man!
Will you do a review on Viking Discs? In my opinion it is a really underrated brand. Especially the Ragnarok and the Axe are keep components in my bag. Really reliable and super durable in the armor plastic
Gotta stay early when my favorite disc golfer posts
Hugh Frisbin's friend Tim Laps
I own a star shryke it is a bit touchy, but it can bomb, I have a star and champ mystere (11/6/-2/2). My wave is great too but imo less distance than the mystere's.
Let's get that Halo Groove!!

if you think the groove is weird try the kastaplast Rask
The groove was my first disc. When I was young and uneducated. It was a sad day when I lost it. Loved it on forehand
Duuuuude absolutely love the shryke. Please try to get your hands on a tie dye one. They’re elite.
Me scrolling thru comments looking for Discgolfjesus👀
i used to bag a groove because it was an easy flipup hyzer disc haha, disc golf needs more groove representation 🙏
I can't throw my time-lapse on Anhyzer unless I side-arm it. So it is amazing for shaped shots. Like the groove, you can do some speeder bike stuff in the woods for those weird side arm shots around corners that need a dependable turn every time.
I’ve been saying this for a while now but the shryke BOMBS especially in halo star😮💨😮💨😮💨
The proton and fission time lapse looks a bit less stable then the neutrons in Simon's hands at least lol
I have lots of shrykes I throw 320'-400' depending on earth's gravitational field that day. Stars are quite flippy and bomb but halos are $$$ for people pushing 400' with a little turn but still glide for days.
I personally think you could make any bad rated disc fly good with all your mystery box experience
Its so funny when you were with Drew trying to throw far I was hoping you would pick up a disc like a Shryke, no reason not to throw it, it is a fantastic option for extra distance.
My one and only ace was with a groove. Hole 1 at Warwick NY, huge anhyzer banged chains
Simon's new Prism Neutron (proto) Time-lapse might be what you are looking for based on his new upload.
The shoes zero drop? When I stopped using mine it helped a ton with distance and form.
The grove reminds me a lot of Latitude 64 Blitz, especially in the profile. The blitz is a beefy boy
Hiii! I just started recording disc golf with my GoPro 11! I was wondering what software you use for video editing? I'm trying to figure out how to zoom in on the disc but I can't get that figured out, hope you can help :)
I bag 2 and a monarch personally, fantastic on a forehand if I do say so myself
The video we didn't know we needed. ☕
Shryke for life!!! I love mine, I always keep one in the bag.
You should throw a champion tern. I think you would love the flight of that. It flies how you would hope the groove would.
Excited for the Pharaoh battle. It's my 1 disc that I can kinda sorta occasionally push >400.
Finding a shattered Champ Groove today led me here.... Thanks for being real about the Time Lapse btw
Don't let disc golf Jesus hear you
Shryke is maybe my favorite disc.. you should try a Champion Tern since you said you have smaller hands its like a Shryke but smaller rim for smaller hands i like to sidearm the Champion Tern.. dont get a star tho too understable
How do you not have a Manscaped sponsor with a beautiful stache like that??
You would think the Foundation boiz would put in a good word for him with Manscaped after their collabs
On the topic of discs that you can grip well, can you try to find (sorry, not available new BUT not too rare or expensive) and test out the Frost Line XXX from Lat64 on a forehand. Try a colusus, I top out on 12 speeds 410. Tested a colusus, threw it 450 first field sesh
I kinda want your groove. Sign it. I’ll pay shipping. 😂
You should see if you can get a purple Time Lapse. Simon said those are flippier, but of course, “flippier” for Simon is a little different than for the rest of us.
I have like a 20 year old champion groove that I use for skip shots and like a long mid. It flies dead straight. Definitely a unicorn. Lol
Good question. Why does anyone make any disc?
I throw LHFH, and a 167g Star Shryke absolutely opened up my game.
So many Anhyzer L to R lines I can hit now. I can’t consistently get it to always S, but at my local courses I honestly need it to L to R no fade more often than not.
Absolute park jobs 290-330. Shots I’d always seen in my mind and could never execute. Get a Shryke. Especially if you are LH and can’t BH drives like me lmao
This is the most optimistic disc golf I've ever seen. I lost count of "go ins" about the second hole.
I really hate the feel of flashing as the disc comes out of the hand, even just a little, so I just sand every disk i buy. It takes me less than 5 minutes and completely changes the feeling. If you do it right the mold edges feel just as smooth as any other part of the disk.

I thought the pharaoh was the same mold as the shryke?
I have owned a champion monarch which claims 10 5 -4 1, or something like that and it flew like a 10 4 0 2
I bought those shoes just b/c I wanted some new Vivo's, and then realized in about August watching DGN that every pro and their mother wears them too. They are sick shoes, too pricey for me to beat up playing disc golf though

I got an F2 Star Shryke last Christmas, and it was one of the easiest decisions to add to the bag. They’re wonderful
what is a safari layout?
Inventing your own course, choosing different pads or basket combos, or just picking spots to throw from.
DEAR LORD SOMEONE GET ANTHONY A DISC RETRIEVER!!!!!!!!! Sponsor the man
Even Simon dosent seem too stocked by his time lapse😀
At least the neutron-based ones...
Re: flight numbers you're also throwing at altitude so everything ends up flying overstable as well..
Shryke is life. Ultimate bomber
VivoBarefoots are awesome!
You need to throw the new Gateway. Realm and Ether. They have replaced all my distance drivers
I picked up a groove back in 2009/10 and it was way to stable for me at that time. Definitely not a -2.
Before watching this could from the disc in the video absolutely be a Banana Frolf one, but lets see if you can make the "meme" disc that just seems inconsistent between runs and a bit fickle in wind a Bodanza-video ;)
It's less about trusting UDisc, and more trusting the GPS-measurements and removing about 15' ;P
The Shryke have different numbers depending on plastic, one of the few Innova-molds having that, I were sorta correct about this if not filmed at the complete quality level like this is more of a Banana Frolf one, but I get it not being due to effort/meme-level ;)
Groovy ;)
Vivo's... heck yeah!
I’ve been looking for a new groove, haha
Funny you compared it to the Timelapse because the groove is basically antigyro technology. Innova created a disc with less material on the rim to make a lightweight driver before blizzard plastic was invented.
JOE!!!!! He is the best!
So I haven’t watched the video yet but I’ll say some runs are beefy and other runs are just inconsistent making it hard to predict the flight. That’s why it is one of the most hated discs ever made.
Gotta try the monarch next, it's like an understable groove
Edit: should've watched 30 seconds longer before commenting lol
We gonna see any more post on the tikkytokky?
I 100% agree wiht you! This run of the time lapse just isnt it! Simons latest video make the proton look like what i want so imma give that a go but even the fission looks beef!
The Monarch is weirdly not bad. Flies like a Beast or Roadrunner.
It's a weird disc. For me it flies very long and straight, like a fairway control driver, and then dumps itself to the left. I kinda like it but also don't like it. I have discs that do about the same, like maybe Anax and L64 Blitz, and these are all flat discs.
mans had to get into the water due to the karma from needlessly trashing the groove lol
So the groove is a beastly thumber disc?
The most infamous thing about the Groove is its inconsistancy issues. Should've compared multiple Grooves against each other for this one.
Centre hills gotta be top 5 worst places to test distance drivers around Denver lol
Got the wrong groove. That’s what makes it a “bad” disc is it’s wildly inconsistent. My first two years of playing I bagged many grooves had to trade away the ones that didn’t fly the way I liked. The ones that actually fly true to the numbers are great.
496 new personal best?!
I knew the millisecond he tried giving the groove flight numbers he was already over his head on this POS disc. lol
The groove's main downfall is how comically different one can be from the other from even the same run.
