    That you can filter out guitar frequencies where you don't want to apply reverb was a revelation to me, never heard of that. Makes perfect sense. Thanks!

    I really appreciate the DIY approach to mixing and the no-nonsense attitude towards making recordings and performances sound better. Wonderful album as well, been spinning it a lot during workdays and on walks and nuanced layers keep revealing themselves.

    I really enjoyed this video. There are lots of videos out there on recording and using Logic, but I've haven't found a lot that speak specifically to recording and mixing acoustic music. This was very well done and I found it very helpful. Would love to see more like this. The music on the album is great as well.

    Hi Eric, this video is super helpful and clear, lovely guitar playing by both of you. Not sure if you remember me, but I bought your KM 184s stereo pair a few years back and finally jumping back into Logic Pro. If you are still doing Zoom sessions, would love to schedule some time with you to bring out the best in my Santa Cruz H-13 and OM.

    Thanks Eric for posting the video. So much useful information there, and the benefit of your experience. I am currently working on recording some acoustic songs with my partner and your video is super helpful and I will try your mic setup for our instrumental music. When we sit close facing each other it creates a great sound space to play in and the way you recorded has certainly opened up some possibilities to help us capture our music. For me the right information at the right time. Thanks again.

    Lovely video, well presented and explained. I definitely picked up some tricks to add to my own mixing explorations. I especially liked the use of the Marquee tool to add volume automation to a whole section, i had never seen that. I would definitely be interested in more videos like this.

    Hey Eric, I'm a massive fan and of Jazz but you have to make an album of your youtube performances. As is, no production nonsense, as raw as they are on youtube. I loved your different kind of blue album etc. but they are Jazz band albums, when I want to hear instrumental guitar I want it raw like Laurence Juber, Pierre Bensusan when they play live. But its your life do what you want, but I will wait. Also if you get into the wrong crowd like in Good Fellas and a bunch of your signature geetars fall off the back of a truck, give us a heads up.

      Hi Kieran,
      My albums “Acoustic Jazz Guitar Solos” and “For Lulu” -both out of print but on my website- and more recent “Ballads and Blues” and the aforementioned “Different Kind Of Blue” albums are as raw as can be, recorded all in one sitting in one day, solo instrumental. The “Artifact” album with Mark Goldenberg is two guitars in duo, but also, just one continues take -made the whole album in two hours.. And I’m working on a new solo acoustic record for the Winter… So in my mind, there’s no shortage of that aspect of what I do out there. :)
      Best,e

    Very informative. Thanks for posting!!! Over the last coupe of years I have gone from 2 mics to M/S, back to 2 mics, and finally settled on 1 mic a couple months ago. Someone pointed out to me all the great acoustic guitar recordings that were recorded with just one mic. However, the really key to your beautiful sound is yours and Jamie's exquisite playing. I am really enjoying your new CD.

    Loved this. very informative. I was thinking you'd use the same mics you did in your beautiful series of Miles Davis tunes. Have you A-B'd them with the ones you used on this current release? Also, what monitors are you listening to? More than one pair? Thanks boss! Would love to see more videos.

    Thanks so much for sharing here Eric. Wonderful insight into your process for this album. I agree, mixing two acoustic guitars is no easy feat. It seems you nailed it. I work in Cubase so not familiar with those plugins but definitely interested in the EQ you used which you can audibly isolate frequencies and also push specific ends of the spectrum in different ends of the stereo image. That’s so cool. I’d be up for more of these vids for sure. Thanks again Eric. Hope the album has done really well for you both so far 🙏

    This was great, thanks for sharing the process and congrats on a great new recording. Do you use compression, or have any other approaches to pick 'attack' or clicks? Maybe it's not a concern?

    • @EricSkyeMusic
      @EricSkyeMusic  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Curtis. Thanks for the question. I’m not necessarily concerned with unpleasant pick attack sounds. Jamie and I are both using pretty full sounding guitars with pretty thick picks that have not too sharp bevels. And we’re both been playing a long time and developed a technique that is mindful of tone production. Which is all to say that I think our pick attack generally sounds very good to my ears when listing back and I want to hear it. I think if I was producing someone aggressively strumming with a thin pick I’d probably clamp down fast and hard with a fast attack and higher ratio on the compressor. Then again, that might be the perfect percussive element needed for the mix.. Case by case.
