    According to the developer's live stream, the lack of trim on the H125 is not a bug; it's working as designed (WAD). That said, since most of us use centering sticks-unless you have something like an MS Sidewinder-having trim would still be a helpful feature.

    • @thecorporatepilotdad
      @thecorporatepilotdad  Місяць тому +2

      That is what I found out as well. The real helicopter does not have trim, but they do intend to add it in MSFS. That is why I said it does not have trim, yet. My point was trim could be mapped in settings, but trim did not work in the sim even if key binding is available.

    As a person who has marginal internet, I’m sticking with 2020 for now.
    I’d like to see MSFS make what you pay for available and allow you to download what you are interested in. I’m a simmer, not a gamer, so a lot of it I’ll never use, but being able to download the planes I want and the areas of scenery I fly in would make it much more usable.
    Just a thought.

    • @thecorporatepilotdad
      @thecorporatepilotdad  Місяць тому

      That would be a nice feature similar to the way Google Maps allows users to download maps for offline usage in selected areas. Asobo have said they will enable aircraft to be downloaded to the PC in MSFS 2024, but it sounds like scenery will not be downloadable to the PC due to the massive amount of space it would take. It would be nice to download a small region, and it does seem possible. MSFS 2020 has a good combination of streamed/downloaded data, so the sim can still be played offline. MSFS 2020 is still a great sim!

    Thank you for the honest review! I am finally happy with FS 2020 and am not in a hurry to upgrade, but the graphics do look amazing. I like that they added the career mode for people who need an objective. I can't believe the number of planes that are included in the sim. I do remember the frustrations with 2020, when they fixed 4 things and broke one major one. I am going to keep following, so I don't spend hours with workarounds that will be fixed if I wait.

    One thing I learned as an art director in advertising to check if the visual of the 2024 flight model "seems" realistic is to completely mute the simulator sound so as not to be "influenced" by it and observe for example, the roll of the wing of an airliner during approach and landing. The 2024 flight model is almost as MECHANICAL as the 2020 one. Ex: We do not feel the inertia of their masses which can weigh several tons each. They should be "late" compared to the input of the yoke or the sidestick (I could even perceive this delay in a Cessna 172 in real flight)!
    But two HUGHES VISUAL IMPROVEMENTS of 2024 that almost no one talks about are the SHADOWS projected on the dashboard (annoying in 2020) which now take into account the diameter of the Sun (about half an arc degree in reality). They are sharper for nearby objects and blurrier for distant objects. AND FINALLY, BLUE HOUR, the favorite of urban photographers, the one that follows just before sunrise and after sunset. Beautiful!
    P.S.: I'm surprised you didn't mention the blue and green taxiway lights that look like a Christmas tree at night ;-)

      @@thecorporatepilotdad I have had several Nikons in my career and the chance to learn from the best photographers in Montreal, Toronto and Los Angeles for my print ads. In movies, we sometimes use a "distracting" sound like a dog barking or a church bell etc. to "distract" the viewer from a bad cut in editing because contrary to popular belief, the brain cannot do 2 things at the same time (an unusual sound for example) but it is very fast! Magicians are experts at distracting the audience with an "other" gesture. Have fun turning off the sound to watch movie sequences (especially 3D motion effects). Without the sound, they sometimes become very revealing... and laughable!

      @thecorporatepilotdad  26 днів тому +1

      @@cpfarch You know, the more I play MSFS 2024 the more I have been saying the same thing and my view towards the sim becomes more negative. This sim was rushed and was going to be released on a given date come hell or high water. Sadly, people are upset and MS/Asobo are going to give users 4 free airplanes to smooth things over. Something tells me the airplanes will be mediocre at best and won't really fix the problem at hand. Who really needs 4 more default airplanes? People paying money for the sim want one thing - honesty! Make a great sim and make it better than the last one. The ads should be what you see is what you get. That did not happen and MS/Asobo released videos showing how great it was with fancy graphics, invited the gamer MSFS creators to an event to make videos about the sim, and most of the community ended up being lied to. It's a shame what MSFS has done with MSFS 2024. They will fix the sim, but to release it in the current state was just wrong.

    Loved the bench/trashcan comment at 0:49!!! The more detailed things get, the more people complain about details being wrong. With FS2004 I was amazed that I could recognize the shape of the town I lived in. With MSFS2024, I can complain that the photogrammetry of my house is a few years old. Personally I love MSFS2024. Wish the CDN disaster on the first day of release could have been avoided. Regarding all the other issues, with the scale of the project they could probably have continued development and bufixing for another 4 years and people would still complain. At some point you have to release the software to the public.

    • @thecorporatepilotdad
      @thecorporatepilotdad  Місяць тому +1

      The shape of the town was amazing or even following roads to find the area your house is in. This simulator has come so far and with all the bugs, it is still amazing compared to where the world of flight simulation was 10 years ago. I noticed the bench/trashcan in MSFS 2020 but never had a chance to bring it up. MSFS 2024 gave me that opportunity and I do not expect it to be changed, nor imply that I hope they change it, it was meant as a fun joke. The bear trash can by the door is a very rugged trash can by the way. One of these days I will get a picture of it and post it in a community post on the channel.

(since I have seen the movie Always I am hopelessly in love with that kind of job, that I will sadly never be able to do in a real life). The graphics were horrendously bad in some areas, and it looked like MSFS 2000. In my opinion, MSFS 2024 would be the way to go with better graphics, aircraft systems depth will improve and is better than MSFS 2020 already ( for example, C172 circuit breakers actually work), and it will have constant improvements and a very large backing for years to come with loads more users than XP12.

      The most frustrating part initially was the different key bindings that we are all used to from MSFS 2020. I bought a new PC with a 4090 and with the graphics on Ultra it still runs really well. Flying in VR is a different story in FS2024. I have noticed small stuff like VOR receivers not showing GPS course when the GPS CDI is selected to GPS, generators powering electrical instruments with the engine off, live traffic not loading, and other stuff I cannot think of. People expected a better and more reliable sim and that is not what happened. Graphics aside, MSFS 2024 should have done everything MSFS 2020 currently does, but slightly better at a minimum. This does not seem to be the case and one more reason why so many people were upset upon release (not including the server debacle for the first day or two). MSFS 2024 WILL be a great sim in the future.

      MS Flight - what a disappointment that was. War Thunder was my go-to simulation/entertainment before MSFS 2020 came out. I have spent many hours playing that game but quit when after getting my butt kicked too often. Hopefully the developers focus on realism and less on the gaming aspect of the sim. Although, the training side of career mode needs some serious work and if detailed and accurate, the training aspect of the sim could be useful and enjoyable to many people.

    I'm really frustrated with MSFS2024. I mean, the graphics are an improvement mostly, so I'd really like to have those. But the bugs just are so annoying. My training route is between EDDM and EDJA. In EDDM, when going from parking to the runways, you have to cross bridges (leading over the highways). Unfortunately, those bridges don't count as solid ground and you just fall through them. In some other small airports I had taxiways that suddenly go uphills and while taxiing the plane goes straight ahead instead of uphill and sinks halfway through the ground. At least often recovering.
    The career thingy is also annoying. In one of the early ones it still gives those markers where to taxi and where to hold. But when I do exactly that it complains that I didn't get taxi clearance. Which I can only get after stopping in the marked area. Which looks "short of runway" to me but apparently isn't.
    My favorite propeller machine (Chessna 208B) also has strange effects. With throttle set to minimum and RPM lever also set to minimum, the machine accelerates on the ground like crazy, at least after some initial taxiing. Or maybe it just reversed the logik of the RPM lever. Or set random values while taxiing. That one of the switches goes exactly the other way that you try to flip it is not that bad in comparison.
    Apart from that, the most annoying thing is the default key/joystick bindings. There is a special place in hell for whoever did the default bindings.

    • @thecorporatepilotdad
      @thecorporatepilotdad  Місяць тому +1

      I agree with you 100% about the key bindings. That was extremely frustrating at first. My brain knew what buttons to press to achieve a certain task, but MSFS 2024 wasn't having it. I'll never understand why the developers did that and I am hoping someday they will give the option to set ALL key binds back to MSFS 2020 default bindings.

      @@thecorporatepilotdad It is terrible for me (unplayable). In 2d with pretty high settings (looks good) I am sitting around 50 FPS, which is smooth for me. In Vr I cannot really get above 27 FPS. It is stuttery, jagged, blurry... with motion it goes to 3 FPS then pops back smooth. It is clearly poorly optimized, most likely due to DX12. My 2020 is quite nice and smooth in VR. PC is a 5700X3D, with a 3080, 32gigs Ram. 600mbs wired internet. Perhaps they will make some fixes, I am not holding out. • @Franco4flyin
    @Franco4flyin Місяць тому +1

    I think FS24 is a great step up over MSFS 2020 and has much greater potential because of its new design and engine.
    Since it launched, I play it pretty much daily. I uninstalled MSFS 2020 3 days after launch.
    I am not going to do a full critique, I doubt anyone cares what I think, but I would like to put in a vote for the Career Mode RPG.
    I enjoy it.
    And as a gamer before I was into flight simulation, it was the thing that was missing in MSFS 2020. Having been in the MSFS community now for a while I think there is a small group of hard core flight simmers and they are not going to be happy with any simulation...ever. They constantly complained about MSFS 2020, which now, ironically they say they are going to go back too. Reality is they hate the label of it being 'game' and having any 'gaming' like features like Career Mode....unless it was 100% realistic to Real Life. The idea that any gamer is going to go through all that it takes to get a real life PPL in a gaming sim is crazy.
    And then there are gamers who like simulations and while this game is never going to be in the top 10 most popular games, the inclusion of the Career Mode has a lot of potential that could make it viable for XBox Studios to continue to develop the sim and not drop it. It does after all have to have a reasonable amount of players to support its cost and those numbers can only come out of the Gamer community. There just are not enough hard core flight simmers to do that.
    Also, this is something new I believe. They are melding a close to life simulator with the makings of a MMORPG through the RPG of Career Mode.
    IF they figure out how to make Career Mode Companies a multiplayer feature (like a guild in mmorpg games) and build group level missions for people in the company (like dungeons in a mmorpg) there is a lot of potential. I can already envision 5 friends leveling up a Company by doing a mission together, like fight a fire that has mechanics and level of difficulty involved.

    • @thecorporatepilotdad
      @thecorporatepilotdad  Місяць тому

      Thank you for the long and detailed comment. Having online players is nice, but you are 100% correct in saying missions could be even more fun if they could be done as co-op missions between friends online. Being able to communicate over the aircraft radio in the sim with air-to-air frequencies to coordinate a mission, giving locations, and whatever else, that would be SO MUCH FUN and many people (myself included) would be doing that kind of sim flying a lot. Flying with friends is fun, but flying with friends and completing a mission together would be even better.
      As a self-proclaimed gamer, did you have an interest in aviation before MSFS or did your interesting in aviation and flight simming come directly from Microsoft Flight Simulator?

    • @Franco4flyin
      @Franco4flyin Місяць тому +1

      @@thecorporatepilotdad It came directly from MSFS2020. I had been a mmorpg gamer, then when VR came I explored racing simulations. Then I read that MSFS 2020 and I was in on release day. I then started to study aviation, not only how to fly properly (thank you, your channels is part of that) and also the History of aviation (sparked by the famous flyers in MSFS) and now it is my sole indoor hobby, and I play it almost daily.
      I think Career Mode is not only something that has amazing potential if fixed, refined, and developed, but I think it is what can give MSFS longevity by building upon the base of Sim only players with a large group of simulation gamers, which would make MSFS a viable $ property in the XBox Studio.

VR in MSFS 2024 does not perform very well and this PC has a 4090 GPU. I am hoping VR gets optimized soon. It may be my settings. VR worked well in MSFS 2024 the first week and then went downhill.

      I don't know that I find a difference from MSFS 2020 in FPS performance. I am at a pretty steady 38 to 42 FPS.
      But in the final analysis for me it is not really about FPS, as much as it is about 'smoothness'? I do not know how to measure 'smoothness' other than by my own subjective experience. If I am in VR for more than an hour and I can feel it start to tire me, even if I have 40 FPS I know its something else.
      And so yes to your point, there does seem to be less of what I call smoothness in 2024? It may be my equipment or my brain, I just do not know.
      I have a suspicion though. I look at what has changed. 2 things...resolution and streamed data.
      Perhaps it is partly caused by the speed of my CPU and GPU working to render this higher resolution and or perhaps the quality of the acquisition of the data that needs to be streamed is having an effect. I really do not know...its a blind guess.
      After I get the Pimax I will likely do another computer build sometime in 2025...this last one I built last is a 3090 card and the intel CPU is 3 or 4 generations back.

    RW private pilot here who has played various versions of FS for a long time going back to FS98. I have a lot of mixed feelings about FS2024. I like that it introduces you to a lot of different types of flying experiences, but the problem is it does so with mediocrity and appeals to a very casual audience. They could've made realistic flying lessons that have extensive briefings but instead the private pilot ride is a lap around the pattern and commercial one is a 10 minute flight without using GPS. The career mode could have included background from RW pilots in these various careers to add color to the career and offer tips and training as you grind out the missions, but instead it just feels very rushed and gets repetitive very quickly. A lot of the aircraft also contain bugs that in some cases are immersion breaking(pilots/passengers sticking out of the bonanza for example).
    The photogrammetry hasn't really been updated since 2020 and is still very outdated in many parts of the world. Lighting and ground textures are much improved, but ai traffic and ATC still a mess. It's the third party community that breathes life into the sim through freeware and payware sceneries, aircraft, and utilities and I am sure with time more of these add-ons will become compatible with 2024 along with development of strong new entries. I also think the avatar mode where you can walk around is really cool and opens up a lot of possibilities for the capabilities of the sim(think landing at your airport, parking, getting out and into your car and driving home).
    FS has come a long way and I can't imagine the complexities of trying to model a world in 3D with accounting for all the variables in the process so of course I give kudos to Asobo for their efforts. That said, I also may pivot back to xplane 12 for more complex aircraft simulations which seems to put more of a focus on getting the core pieces of a flight sim right at the expense of lower quality scenery and eyecandy. Thanks for your honest review.

      You are welcome and thank you for the long and detailed comment. Career mode leaves a lot to be desired. They made it look so easy to get a PPL or IR in real life, and it's nothing like what is portrayed in the sim. Then again, the Cessna 172 does not start the same way in real-life as it does in the sim. There is only so much the sim can do, but it would have been great to see more real-world based lessons and ACS task-oriented check rides than what is in the sim. Hopefully career mode and check rides will be developed further in the future.
