Common base is excellent when you want the lowest input impedance possible while having a moderate to high output impedance. So basically an active impedance transformer with a respectable voltage gain. Low impedance moving coil transducers benefit from this amplifier configuration and if it's used in push pull it's good for broadband loop antenna amplifiers at vlf up to the hf spectrum
