I’m a nurse in the substance abuse field. This is her addiction talking. She’s sick. An addict trying to convince themselves and everyone around them that they’re choosing this lifestyle and can kick their addiction on their own when they’re ready; is someone overcome by their addiction. Their addicted brain is taking over trying to rationalize their lifestyle and choices. Usually the more educated addicts are the addicts that have the hardest time finding recovery. They justify their actions, and feel like they can outsmart their addiction. They can’t. Her living children deserve better. Watching her live like this can’t be easy for them. Her refusing any type of treatment isn’t a good sign. She’s not ready to get better. I hope she hits the bottom she needs to hit to make her realize she deserves more out of life than this. Sending her so much love.

So well put. Exactly. A lot of rationalizing and coping mechanisms are at work here toward the end of her story. And how she differentiates herself from the other prostitutes and drug addicts, yet lives just like them in a crummy one-room in the dilapidated part of town. Yeah, she's much more addicted than she wants to admit, sadly.

I can not agree on this completely. I was living an addict lifestyle using benzos, weed, alcochol. I finished university, mathematics, had a job I didnt like and was abusing drugs. I quit everything even I dont smoke cigarettes and never had a desire to go back. Didnt ask for any help or advice. The only reason is lack of higher purpose in life. If person can find a higher purpose in life than drug/street life then kicking such a habit is possible but not easy. It all comes being true to yourself and in tune whit yourself to find anything you enjoy more than drugs. Otherwise, quitting is possible but not on the long run.

@@argontherebel In all do respect a mother that gave up her home, career; shooting Fentanyl and prostituting herself to feed her addiction is an entirely different level of addiction. I’m glad you found what worked for you. I’m not saying treatment works for everyone but given her past trauma with the death of 2 kids, therapy and some form of treatment will be crucial for her recovery.

i know her and I've known her my entire life and 90% of everything she is saying is a lie. After katrina her mom took her kids to help her out and she never went back to pick them up. im not sure she even graduated Mandeville high school. BUT she def didn't graduate college. she lived with me 11 years ago for about a month and i had to kick her out because i suspected her of using drugs. she did have a sitting business for the elderly but she stole all of their drugs. she stole morphine from my mother while she was on hospice. i called and told her mother too. she's been lying about having cancer for over 20 years so they date she said she had cancer this time was a TOTAL LIE. she held fundraisers to get money for a cancer she NEVER HAD. this is a very sad thing to see happen to anyone, especially a lifelong friend. Get help MONICA. its never too late to fix the mess you're in.

I’m a cop and I often ask people what lead them to the streets and a lot of it is untreated undiagnosed mental illness. Some are just addicts that love the drugs more than life and then there are those who life never let up on or gave them one bad deal after the other. There are well educated people out there who just need someone to reach out to them and pull them up. One of the ones I helped was a woman who was an Anesthesiologist and had gotten addicted after a car wreck. Last I heard she was doing well now and gotten married. Success stories are few and far between but they are success stories none the less.

It is just important for viewers to understand what is this presentation.
All this is active addict narrative.
How did so many miss that she is high af whilst speaking?
I neglected to make mention of her claims with her MD and drug testing, that she “tests negative” for opiates, because “they’re synthetic,” and her MD knows that she uses heroin and/or fentanyl and treats her, presumably, with additional opiate therapy.
Oh, and the buying fentanyl/heroin on the dark web, lol.
Pardon moi, but none-of this is consistent with reality.
I hate to say this, but I do not believe even that two-of-her children have died.
That may very well be the “keystone mendacity” upon which the softening-of target allows much leeway of interpretation.

It’s not realistic to say someone with businesses and money can’t loose it all and end up like this. You know how many moms are in my addiction recovery group, getting on the zoom from the inside of a 5 bedroom or more house, President of the PTA and still at the soccer games with liquor in the thermos and or high as a kite. I worked a full time job, took care of my mom and went to a university all while taking oxy 30s every chance I got. I don’t know this lady so I’m not saying her story is true but I don’t know that it isn’t. Drug addicts live in denial we all believe we can quit whenever we feel like it right up until we do and those DTs hit. That’s not being cocky that’s being an addict. I used to say the same type of stuff cause addicts will hold on to any last bit of dignity they have. As a heroin addict who struggled with addiction for 17 years and am now 10 years clean and sober I feel like I have to comment on this.." heroin addiction has a predictable pathway, it affects our minds and takes over our lives. The story we Tell around that varies depending on where we are in terms of time and loss from this path usually it's some form of denial and justification it affects us all the same because it changes our brain and takes over our lives. You can be really smart and intelligent and every other area of your life but when it comes to heroin addiction we need help to get free from it's death grip.
I hope you find the humility to Free yourself and get your life back because the loss is never ending so it finally takes your life. My suggestion is before you lose any more of your precious time and dignity is.. go to treatment get medically detoxed and then get into na or AA or some kind of support group with others like you otherwise your chances of saving yourself are slim.

She also implied she’s got plenty of money (including a fancy house in “Madisonville on the river)” so one would assume she doesn’t need to do it. At her age, this wouldn’t be a huge source of money anyway unless she’s got some crazy tricks she didn’t mention . Then she said she’s never ever ever giving up heroin, but didn’t really explain why she’s doing it. Most people who never give up doing heroin are doing it to get high and as a result have ever increasing habits that become increasingly difficult to manage (and pay for). However, she explained she strictly manages her heroin habit. So why is she taking heroin? One must assume it’s not to get high because she would have to be taking more and more of it to get high. Is she managing some sort of pain with heroin? She doesn’t explain this conundrum. Smart lady but a lot of hanging facts. Too bad because a lot of what she said makes a lot of sense and a lot of what she said is very true. It’s very unsettling when the truth is mixed with things that are hard to believe. Makes you doubt the whole thing.

This video is heartbreaking. Poor Monica is undoubtedly suffering so much, mentally and physically (just look at the oedema in her feet and hands) and all people can seem to do is throw judgement with their entrenched misconceptions that psychiatric illness is a character flaw and lifestyle choice. It is NOT! Psychiatric illness often leads to substance abuse and vice versa. Monica needs to be surrounded with love, kindness and support. I so hope she is. No matter how fantastical her story is, she is unwell and is suffering so greatly, and as a fellow human, it is painful to watch. I see through her symptomatic delusions and feel her pain, anyone who fails to, needs an injection of empathy. Is she hurting us with her disordered sense of reality and delusional perception of self? No!! Is she hurting herself? Absolutely. Whatever happened to #BeKind??? Some nasty, judgemental oxygen thieves in this world, judging a clearly very unwell woman from the security and anonymity of their respective screens. Truly the very worst of humanity. Stop judging the psychiatrically ill by your own 'sound of mind' moral standards and instead count your blessings that you are not walking in poor Monica's shoes!! No one truly knows what trauma she has endured in this life to have lead her down this trajectory of self-annihilation. Your health is your wealth and this lady is seriously poorly by the look of the obvious oedema in her feet. She desperately needs kindness that much is certain. It doesn't cost anything to extend a little compassionate kindness to those vulnerable and suffering in pain.

She did not graduate high school
      Her sons did not die

@@lisaaxe9062 Exactly. She got her business/finance bachelors of science 1st, and then went back to get her bachelors of science in nursing as a RN, and then worked 17 yrs. as a nurse in hospice. A lot of people go back...I did. B-U-T I think she does a lot of "rationalizing" toward the end, trying to convince herself that she's not like the other prostitutes and drug addicts, when she is and is living like one of them. I d-o think she wants to get out but is much more addicted than she wants to admit (i.e. oh, I give away 1/2 my money, I don't need it; I live in a one-room dilapidated part of town because I don't like snobby people and I really don't need much anyway; I plan on going back for my doctorate in history, etc.). A lot of rationalizing and coping with her current dire situation to others...I think she's, sadly, in deep drug addiction.

It is very easy to tell she doesn't want to detail her life of prostitution/drugs & wants to be respected for many accomplishments that may OR MAY NOT have happened (I'm leaning towards the latter). It makes sense that she would embellish her life, as a coping mechanism. I wouldn't be surprised if one of her living children contacted Mark & said differently but to each their own 🙂. Whatever comforts her in those harsh streets!
