- If that white tab slides around at all the "feeder cam lever" will need to be replaced. Search on ebay for the particular model you may have. For the model shown in this video the same part works with these Brother printer models:
MFC7470 MFC7860 DCP7055 DCP7057 DCP-7065DN
Actual part# LY2579001 for the above models $2-4 (on ebay currently).
You can use any silicone or lithium grease, or just scrape it off the old part and apply it to the new part

Adding to the chorus - I’ve had and been very happy with my HL-2280DW for many years. It started having the paper error and all I had found was to push the white tab over manually, which would always fix for just a short time. I followed the directions in this video and voila - the printer is fixed! Thank you so much for providing this resource.
BUD!!!!!! You are still saving Brothers!!!! lol.... thank you very much!!! Much happiness and blessings to you!!! You are a good human! ..lol. Saved my one too!!!
The part was less than $8 on ebay. Adding my thanks for a great video that snatched my printer from the jaws of the landfill. (That part should be metal; no question about it.)
I found a 7360 on the sidewalk after someone moved out. When I got the "no paper" error, I searched for help and followed your VERY clear instructions to fix it. Thank you so much!
BEST BEST BEST BEST BEST video on the entire internet showing how to fix this problem!!! You, my man, are a lifesaver. Thank Youuuuu!!!!! I wish you'd do a video on how to fix everything!!! I was trying, unsuccessfully, to reposition this piece, not realizing that little end was chipped off. You just saved me about two hundred bucks to replace my old printer. I really can't thank you enough!!!
Thanks, worked perfectly. Ordered 5 and now have 4 as spares in case those tiny bits break!
Legendary! Saved a printer going to the landfill and a bunch of money for a new one as a bonus. Thank you!
KEEP THIS VIDEO UP. DO NOT TAKE IT DOWN. iIT WORKS.!!!!!!!! Thank you
Thank you Chad! A $7 part and a few minutes of work saved this printer from being discarded.
Great video. 7860 would display no paper but the paper would actually get stuck feeding up from the tray. Took off the side panel and removed the cam lever. Yup, the little end to the cam leaver was broken. Part is $25 on Amazon if you want it in a day
My HL-2280DW lives on, thanks to your clear explanation and guide. THANK YOU!
Thanks man! I've been using this printer for 11 years and for the last year it has been difficult to print without needing to open / close or fiddle with the paper stack after every page. Then I came across this video and disassembled the printer to look at the cam and it was broken. Waiting for the replacement part now but I'm quite sure this will fix the printer. It's a great printer, I've been using it over a decade and printed thousands of pages with it. I'm sure it will last even longer now! Thanks for this video!
This worked for my Brother MFC-7860DW that a friend gave to me. Thank you! I bought the spare part on Amazon for 9 dollars
That was a great tip. My printer is now working again. Not only have I saved a lot of money, but I have also been able to avoid throwing away an otherwise well-functioning printer. Many thanks for the great instructions!
Thank you - I also did not want to not only get another printer but avoid the landfill. Was looking for some sort of clearing for the paper error and saw this. Thanks again.
You are a savior! This was EXACTLY what I needed! Fixed my printer and saved a ton of money and e-waste.
Thank you so much. Such a quick & easy fix that saved me a lot of money & kept my printer from joining a mountain of electronic junk in a landfill!
Just saved me $350 for a new printer and a smaller landfill. Thanks so much. Also works with model #MFC7360N. Made the mistake of buying on Amazon for $16 with shipping.
Yeah that's for sure. Amazon can rob you blind on many little things. Glad it worked, I'll never get tired of hearing that.
This is exactly what was broke when I took out the part. Thank you.
1) "load paper" > 2) no joy > 3) look-up on UA-cam > 4) watch your video > 5) check printer: sure enough the tab is broken! > 6) Order part number you listed > 7) Printer works > !!Fantastic!!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this information with the world.
I was debating whether I should spend a day stripping the printer apart to try figuring out the problem or just throwing it away (it's been a good printer and saw a lot of paper over the years).
Thanks to you, it took me 10 min to order the part (that includes watching your video). One more device saved from the landfill...
I can't thank you enough! Kudos!
Super easy to set up, took less than 30 minutes. I have an android phone and no issues. Smaller profile than my 12 year old HP printer. I can now print off my work computer, personal computer, cell phone, etc. I love it, not sure why it took me so long to get a WI-FI printer. I got this on Prime days for $60! I am thrilled with this purchase.
Great video; this was exactly my printer issue. While I wait a few weeks for the part delivery I tried supergluing the tab back on but it broke off again as I popped it back into place. I superglued a length of a paperclip to it to replace the keeper and so far it's working for some test pages.
You rock! This replacement was so easy to do because of how clear your instructions were. Thank you. I love this printer - it has been a workhorse for so many years and I didn't want to replace it.
Amazing video. Fixed my printer in 10 minutes for $10.
11 months later still helping people get this fix done. Thanks for this video.
Silly me, I spent 20 minutes figuring out what the problem was on my printer, THEN I searched youtube and found your video! I discovered the same issue on my printer.
Thanks, after ordering the feeder cam lever and replacing it, my paper tray now works again on my Brother MFC-DW7860. Just had to make sure to push that little white plastic tab into the curved black part on the printer shown at 2:21 by applying pressure on the feeder cam pushing it towards the rear of the printer.
Brilliant! Thank you so much! I was all ready to replace my HL2280DW, but with your tutorial, was able fix it in about 15 minutes. Took a day to get the part for less than $10 on Amazon!
Thank you so much! I was about to throw out my hl-2270 and I was so mad that it was going to end up in a landfill. Thanks to your tutorial I was able to fix it. I’ve never been this proud of a repair! 😂
Thank you! I have printed 723 pages on my printer, that's how infrequently I've used it. Inexcusable that this part has already broken. I was able to keep the gears in place with a pencil eraser while I wait for the replacement part from a vendor on e-bay. You're the best for taking the time to make this video!
Excellent video. Concise, clear, well explained. Couldn't ask for a better youtube diy video. Plus, now I don't have to go buy a new printer. It's amazing how small of a part can put everything to a halt.
My 2270DW now works like a charm. The part wasn't broken but somehow came off of the post. Thanks to you I saw what part the feeder cam lever played in popping the feeder gear in place and how to replace it. So many thanks for posting this video.
Great video! I've never replaced the cam feeder lever on any brother printer before (or any other make of printer), but I followed the instructions as laid out in the video and had no problems. A+ fantastic stuff here!
Funny thing is, same here. This is the only printer I have ever worked on. I had a Canon printer (inkjet) many years ago for photo quality prints which it complained more about what ink it was out of or running low on than actually printing. If I made a video for fixing that one, it was a scene out of Office space....LoL. I hate throwing stuff away that can be fixed and honored that this video is helping people. Thanks for the kind words!
Thank you!!! We tried extensive trouble-shooting, called Brother and checked at Stapes repair desk. Everyone said the printer was shot and needed to be replaced. We saw your video and ordered this $8 part which solved the problem!!! Thanks again!!!
Thanks for this video. Had a tab broken, order the part, installed and saved a perfectly functional printer from ending in a landfill.... Thank. You!
Excellent lesson. All the key steps were explained clearly and pointed out with red arrows. For me, the key step was at 2:31 - making sure that the cam lever was hooked correctly to the printer body (I had to redo the cam lever positioning 3 times before seeing your screen shot of the correct attachment.)
I'm not a religious person, but you are truly doing God's work! My printer now works, and just for the cost of that little plastic piece. Your video was so thorough and answered every one of my questions as I progressed through the repair. Thank you thank you thank you!
Such a great help & clear video!!! Repaired my HL2270-DW with an ebay part. Removed the spring and worked the new part in as at 2:31. Then realized it cannot move all the way to the front or to the back as the shape is slightly tight. So I filed the upper portion of the black frame to provide the clearance. When you rotate the part to the back (simulating inserting the drawer), the cam should lock in place lightly. Rotate it back to the front, install the spring and the motor, and you're good to go. I also greased the entire path where the little tab runs, and yes it's undersized!
Didn't want to wait for a new cam lever to arrive so just heated a small piece electrical shrinkwrap on the end of the spindle facing you (be sure to hold it with tweezers when applying heat) and have been printing for 4 days now. This fix holds the broken cam lever in place on the spindle it rides on, allowing you to print away. Many thanks for this video as it really helped me come up with a quick (and cheap) remedy since I keep various sizes of shrinkwrap on hand for doing electrical wiring projects.
Thanks for this fix! Was getting pretty tired of manually feeding paper into the printer. Couldn't figure out why the top roller wasn't engaging, then I saw the missing white tab. I followed all your instructions and now I have a working printer, good as new.
Excellent video. I knew something had come loose in my printer during the move. The spring had come off in the part you showed. I was waiting for the prices to fall and was using the manual feeder. Saved 200 bucks with this. THANK YOU!!!
after 10 years of use and over 38,000 printed pages this printer is like new (well...) thanks to you !! Great video, many thanks.
Thanks very much! I just successfully replaced the lever. I bought the printer for $8 Canadian at a thrift store. 2 replacement levers cost me $2.77 shipped through AliExpress. Of course I only needed one, but that's OK.
Amazing, I think you scored the best deal on a printer ever! I thought I was doing good when I bought the printer brand new for around $75. I paid $150 about a week before at office Depot and they had it marked down to $75 so they refunded me. Was happy with that but you got a steal at that price with part.
@@chadj77 $75 is really good too! My MFC-7360N was (and still is) in pristine condition (except for the lever). 80% of the drum life was left and 2600 prints were made. So I guess that the original owner didn't use a starter toner cartridge, just the spent TN450 compatible cartridge in the printer (which I refilled). I suspect that the lever may have been broken during manufacturing, given how delicate the part that fits into the arc shaped slot is. I guess friction and spring pressure held it in place until it failed after 2600 prints. Anyway, thanks again.
Thanks to you one more printer is saved from the landfill, your video has saved more than 100 printers from all the 'thank you' comments. Great work man. I am using the temporary fix for my DFC-7070DW until I get the part i ordered from Ebay. Thank you again.
Thank you Chad for this helpful video. Two no tech ladies worked side by side with these instructions. Mission accomplished, we saved our printer and saved us money. Without the video we wouldn't have been able to figure it out! 5 stars for your help!
repaired my 13 years old bother DCP-7055w thanks to you and to a 3$ spare part bought in Aliexpress!! Many thanks!!!
Omg thank you!! It took me a while to get the feeder cam lever in there properly, but once I did it worked like a charm.
You’ve just saved another printer from the landfill. I’m so very grateful you’ve taken the time to create this video as I would otherwise have never even dared consider a repair like this. I followed all your instructions and I now have a working printer again. Thank you!!
No nonsense video. Straight to the topic!
Much appreciated!
Great video! Thank you. I've had this printer for more than 10 years and was disappointed when I started getting the "no paper" error since I had bought extra toners and drums.
Thank you so much for sharing, it worked! I followed the same procedures except that I didn't get a replacement. I used a tiny rubber band to lock the white tap in place so that I still could use the "broken" white tap with the little part missing. Of course this is just a temporary solution. I will see how it goes and will definitely get a replacement if this fails.
Amazing. Thank you. This repair using a $2.50 part and save me $200+ dollars on a new printer. Very clear video and instructions even a novice like me can follow.
Thank you, thank you, thank you🙏 ordered my part, watched your video, now I have a working printer!
Thank you! Using your troubleshooting instructions I determined my feeder cam lever is broken and am now waiting on the part to fix it!
Update: FIXED!! THANKS AGAIN!
Thank you for posting this! Your video is the best one I found that shows how to fix this problem from start to finsih. I ordered the cam lever off of Ebay and had it installed in less than 10 minutes. Back to printing!
Watched this video and it saved me from buying a new printer. Excellent directions! Thank you!
Thank you very much. Could not have fixed it without this presentation. Saved me from having to get a new printer.
I found the broken piece on ebay and I fixed my printer. Thank you very much, you saved me time and money!
Spare part number is Brother LY2579001
Thanks! Part is on order and temporary fix is working! Great video, so clear. Donation sent to you instead of "donating" my printer to landfill. I was going to just start using my inkjet and not replacing the Brother, but really like the laser printer better.
Glad to help and I appreciate the donation!
Thank you so much! Just fixed my brother multi-function printer, scanner, fax and copier! one less to the landfill. Your video is amazing precise and clear.
Hi , many thanks for resolve this fuc.... problem.
planned obsolescence , thank you brother !!!.
you can block with a small paper and it works ;)
no needed to change the piece
Not sure what motivates good samaritans in general, but I sure am thankful for Chad!! This is a great money-saving and trouble-saving video. My small donation won't make you rich, but every little a bit counts, right? And hopefully enough folks will contribute that you will continue to video instructions like this in the future. Thanks Chad!
Awh, thanks for the kind words. I am forever grateful. Thank you!
2 more printers saved from the landfill. I was so close to an "Office Space" moment. thank you so much for this video!
Thanks a lot! Your instructions were very clear to follow and I was able to get my printer working again!!!
Thank you so much for the wonderful tutorial, you saved my printer!!! I never opened a printer before and I was a little nervous, but it was so worth it, now it works perfectly! 👌😁
Thank you so much! Just ordered my feeder cam lever so I will be watching again once it comes to get it installed!
Unfortunately, the feeder cam didn't fix my problem. The gear turns now but it still will not pull the paper.
Thanks you so much! I was doing your temporary fix method for a while until it didn't work anymore. The little white tab wasn't sliding to the right anymore. I was about to trash the printer and buy a new one, but thought I'd try searching youtube one more time for DIY fix. Then I found your video and ordered the replacement part. I just fixed it and the printer works perfect. You saved me money! Thanks again! You're the real MVP. BTW my printer has to be at least 10 years old and still running strong!
Thanks so much for the response, i am happy this video worked for you!
Hell ya dawg! I’m not really handy at all and just fixed my printer thanks to you and this video. Very much appreciated!!
THANKS!!! -- I'm tech clumsy but your video was simple to follow. (Replacement part was easy to find for sale online: $25, including shipping). You've remotely fixed another printer!
Thanks! Sliding over the white little tab fixed it for me. Thank you!
This is exactly what I needed to keep my old Brother going, thanks!
Thank you so much for this video!! I was able to get my printer rockin & rollin again 👏🏾
Totally awesome! Thank you.. Saved me a really long drive and a new printer!! Really appreciate this. Ordered the PART!
An excellent video! I have a HL-2360DW printer and couldn't find anything regarding that printer. The 2360DW is a smaller form factor different printer; however this video was good enough for me to take it apart enough to see a fine little spring somehow came off near this cam part that was replaced here. Replacing the 'Feeder Cam Lever' looks to be much harder with my printer and I was fortunate to see this little spring.
Anyway the printer works! We delayed another land fill deposit for a while now anyway.
thanks again!
This video saved my Dad's printer. Thanks! Also: WTF, Epson? Seriously?
Saved me a lot of money and only took about 30 minutes to do.
Thank you!
Thanks for this info! Fixed my feeder without needing to replace, but I'm ordering a new one anyway. That little tab is pretty weak on mine so I'm sure it'll break off soon enough.
Thank you very much for your video, I managed to enable my HL-2270DW printer again, the systems are similar and it saved me money.
Great video, THANK YOU! Sure enough, that part in my printer (MFC- 7360N) was broken. What a poorly designed part, though! It's a wonder it survived as long as it did.
BTW I kept hearing "Feeder cam" as "Peter cam" :)
Your the man.... Back in service, Thank you !
I did it! Thank you for this video. For me the key was wiggling or turning the feeder cam lever so that I was able to pop it on the black spindle. Otherwise, the rest of the steps were simple to accomplish. Yay, now I can keep using this printer, which I do on the daily, and not have to toss it and buy another one. Thanks again!
Thank You So much for this video. You allowed me to save a very useful printer from a landfill. Thanx again. Much appreciated.
Thank you so much!!! This worked like a champ!!! I not only saved money in my pocket but saved landfill !!!
Thank you so much! You saved me having to buy a new printer. Easy fix!
Totally worked! Thank you so very much for posting this. Saved me a printer!
Thank you for this video and the related temp fix video.
After verifying rollers were clean / had good grip I knew it had to be a sensor error but didn't know where to look. Printer is working again for now, will order the part.
I couldn't get a hold on mine with a hook and ended up taking off the panel. So I've already done what you showed here except no new part - so I know when I get the part it is going to be as easy as what you showed here. Thank you again.
Yes, just make sure when putting the new one in, the tab that normally breaks off when applying some pressure. The new part will pop into the groove. Once the new part is placed and engaged correctly it won't slide around causing the error. I didn't catch the noise on camera of it popping in but something to pay attention to when placing the new one.
I got it to work on my MFC-7460DN.
Thank you!
you are a genius did what you said after cleaning rollers contacting brother printer and this worked thank you so much
Thank you so much! I had another brother printer that I broke the glass on, so I took the part of out of that one. That part was also broken either by me taking it out or it was ready to break. Anyway, the tabs to both pieces were still hanging on but not totally broken, so I glued both back together with gorilla super glue and let them dry over night. The first part was a no go; it didn’t work. I tried the next part just in case, and I’m back in business!
Wow! Thank you so much for this video!! I was able to fix my printer and paper is now loading!! 👏 👏👏👏
Good job! Fixed my unit ! Thankyou for posting this ! Just irritated me brother does not include this in their list of trouble shooting comments! After researching
Seems to be a common issue with just about All of their models ! guess they don't want to admit to having any weak points ! Has been otherwise a Good printer!
Thankyou again saved me $ 350.00 buying a new printer!
Now the printer works but will not ACCEPT COPY INSTRUCTIONS FROM MY COMPUTER. WHAT NOW?
Great video very easy to understand, found my problem now all I need to do is find out where to buy a new feeder cam lever
I am very grateful! I just fixed my MFC-7860DW with your help! Save me money for buying a new one! Thank you :)
Yay! Thank you SO SO much! You just saved me a bunch of money and the printer from the landfill!
Dude, thank you!! I was just about to toss my printer and buy a whole new one when I came across your video. Your temporary fix totally worked and I've just ordered my replacement part for 10 bucks. This saved me so much money and a printer from going to the landfill. Cheers!
May I know where to buy the white part and what's the name of that part please?
@@jiagangtan9840 the name of the part is in the video description. I got mine on amazon
@@ashellebee Many thanks!
Life saver, Im working from home and my printer stopped printing. I didn’t replaced it that piece got displaced when i was trying to pull the tab back to its place
legend. was about to throw out my printer until this video. I temporariliy used super glue to fix the cam shaft, and will wait for the order on ebay to arrive. Legend.
Thank you so much for making this video. Saved my printer.
Thank you so much. I have now mended my printer at the cost of £3.56. I am very happy.
Your video saved my printer! Thank you!
