Final Charge Global 50/50 Nitrite-Free Extended Life for heavy duty engines is the one that matches the HD specs. I actually installed that in the rebuild, then had to do it again when I did the pump shortly after, and here we are a couple years later and it's time for another coolant flush lol. Stuff works great and it's cheap!
I am about to do this exact same process on my 2008 with 36,000 miles on it. That price on the water pump is what sucks the most. Doing the job itself should be fairly simple. I guess it’s time to order some parts.
Oh yeah, it's pretty easy, just messy. Don't forget to loosen the bolt on the front head and drain the remaining coolant, I forgot when I did the pump and it made a giant mess!
@@mr.g3029 You're going to have to call around. Most dealerships probably won't have anything in stock based on my experience. Give Fitzgerald Motorsports a call, he might be able to sell you what you need.
That's no joke! I spent the better part of September down due to a failed throttle position sensor. It took me like 3 weeks to find one that worked. The first one I found was wired backwards even though it fit, so that one got sent back since it showed 100% at closed throttle, so I ended up calling 5 dealers to find one and eventually got one to send me the last one they had. Eventually the aftermarket will come into play on a lot of this stuff but it's rough right now!
@@GearheadPhil going to be hard to get parts now. the dealership i used to get parts online posted "Due to changes to the H-D 2022 Online sales policy, as of Jan 1st, 2022 Dealerships nation-wide will no longer be allowed to sell or ship any Genuine H-D products outside of their dealership area."
@@Jimvdk go figure. That's not good, the only reason I got running again recently was because I was able to source a throttle position sensor from a dealership on the east coast since no one in my state had any. It's absurd how HD has pretty much abandoned us.
@@GearheadPhil yea i had a slipper clutch in the shopping cart as it was 40 buxs cheaper then by me. when i got the notice from castlehd so i tried to buy it on last day of December but they deleted my account.
@@Jimvdk that's insane. I'm really glad I picked up an extra breather hose when I had the chance. Makes me nervous for the future, I came close to being grounded indefinitely until I found that TPS. This makes it way harder to get what we need
Thanks! As for the stand, it's just one from Harbor Freight. It's done a great job for me, makes things so much easier than having to lay on the ground. I'd like to get one of the drive on ones that raises it up really high at some point.
Honestly, it's one of the most badass exhausts I've ever heard for a bike. It makes the thing sound like a massive V-Twin. It's LOUD as hell lol. Mine is cammed too and it really sounds wild. It straight up sounds like a NASCAR screaming at 9k rpms. I can't ride it to work anymore unless I want to wake up the whole neighborhood at 6am 🤣
Hello friend!! My bike is overheating, causing the temperature light to come on. Do you think it must be a water pump that is influencing the cooling system? There are leaking gears on the outside of the engine where the water pump is located...
If it's overheating, the triple sprocket bolt might have backed out, causing the water pump impeller to not spin. I have a other video on removing the left side cover to access that, check that out. But if you're seeing coolant seeping from the weep hole, then the pump is probably shot for sure.
Sorry, I couldn't find the video you mentioned about the screw being recessed and possibly blocking the water pump bearing. I looked through all the videos and couldn't find it... Can you post the link in your next comment? Thank you in advance brother!!!
Awesome, I guess I will see you there. Hope all is well with the vrod. I'm not sure if I got any footage of you in my video but I did post some things from the previous years on my channel
@@SpeedCreep21 Oh nice! I didn't do near as much recording at the Rally as I wanted, other than my untuned Dyno pull lol. And yeah, it's all good. I've been neglecting the V quite a bit since I got a Mustang for a daily last year, but it's still a ripper and does nice rolling burnouts lol
Amazing isn't it? I'm at about 33k miles now, with over 3k being on the rebuilt engine. I'm guessing the water pump bearings seem to have rusted while it was in a box for a couple months during the rebuild process, which lead to it leaking almost immediately after I got it fired up. The other issues I dealt with are fairly common little items, like the dirty ground connection, stator wire oil leak, etc. The spun bearing was my fault, I don't count that one 😂
Love the video. I watched it twice before starting. I made a rookie boo-boo. I put my torque wrench to 86 ft lbs rather than inch pounds 😂 Stripped the head (part that the bit actually goes into) on 2 before I was like “OH CRAP”…. You think over tightening them will be bad if they seem to be holding and there’s no leak? Lol I felt so dumb.
Ha, we all make mistakes. The main concern I'd be worried about is the stripped ones not being sealed and allowing water to enter but that's such a small amount that it would probably evaporate off. The gasket is probably crushed so it might need replaced next time it's off if it leaks.
@@GearheadPhil thanks man, Im going to use the extractor bits to pull the couple bolts off and replace them one by one with the new ones i got from harley. what kind of coolant did you use? Thank you for this video.... it's 2024, hopefully, Fitzgerald has some more waterpumps for my 2003 vrod!!

Nope, they're wider and have a bit more height and set back than stock. I bought the bike with them so I'm not sure what they are.
