Yep, Kevin invented celloboxing, doing both at the same time. Talent is just dripping of of him! I am a huge Lindsey Sterling fan! This is one of THREE times that they collabbed with her! The other 2 are Papaoutai, which they sing in French!! And Over the River. Yes, they got better - their recent originals album is a work of art!!!!
I agree with Jennifer, Matt....You need to listen to some Pentatonix Christmas music. Maybe 'Mary, Did You Know?' Or I personally liked 'The 12 days of Christmas' That song is usually so dreary and repetitive but the way that Pentatonix arranges it is just magic.
That's how Scott found Kevin. He had a"Cello - Boxing" video on UA-cam with almost a million hits. So they were able to get him to join PTX just in time to enter the 2011 Singoff. KO as he calls himself has some incredible solo videos, like Down. PTX has been a miracle from day one! Check out the french video where Scott learned and sang in French and Lindsay....and Kirsten look really cute. They are amazing!😍😍🔥❤️
Wow, Matt, you are on a roll. Excellent!!! Good to see you’re trying to get around the copyright issues with some opacity on the vid. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite reactors. Nice work!
Kevin is a world class cellist. He graduated from Yale; he studied medicine. He also speaks Mandarin Chinese!! He also sings a very good tenor!! He can also rap!!
Kevin is a musical genius IMO. An absolute phenom. He not only is an amazing beatboxer, but is also a world class cellist. He invented cello-boxing (and had a viral video, which is how PTX found him), and is also a saxophone player. He has performed at Carnegie Hall. Then you add stuff like like he has perfect pitch, is a talented singer, was pre-med when PTX formed, he speaks mandarin and Spanish, etc. His talents are mind blowing. In the video for their original Xmas song ‘That’s Christmas To Me’, there are a few home videos of the band members as kids. It shows little Kevin practicing his cello. ❤️ PTX has collabed with Lindsey Stirling a few times - Radioactive, Papaoutai, and Over The River that I can think of.
Another good choice ( mind you, with PTX, there aren't any bad ones) and PTX doesn't do ordinary covers, they do upgrades to every song they do a rendition of. For more colabs with Lindsey Sterling, check out Over The River and Papaoutai . Hi from Vancouver Island!
The only change in the group is at bass where Matt replaced Avi in 2017. Mitch and Kirstie change their look all the time I'm from Vegas. Check their Can't Hold us for something different and fun!
Kevin invented the the art/skill of CelloBoxing. His viral video is how the trio (Scott, Mitch and Kirstie) and Avi found him to form PTX. They all met for the first time in person the day before their audition for the Sing-Off! And history was made.
Interesting side note, Kevin dropped out of medical school to join the band. If you wonder why we do not have a cure for cancer, your best bet is to blame Kevin for dropping out of Med school!! (I can live with it.) He also has some great solo stuff. Think he has his own channel.
The great thing about PTX is they are not just a cover band, they have Originals also that are superb. A good taste of three of their originals and one medley cover is the 2016 pop spring concert. Love your reactions, pentaholic from Florida.
At the very beginning it’s Kevin’s cello we’re listening to. Lindsey comes in after a couple of seconds of Kevin’s introduction. A violin has a higher range than a cello, a viola is lower but still not the same range as the cello, and of course, the bass has the lowest range of all.
Another one with Lyndsey (all in French ) Papaoutai...it's so amazing. also "Over the River" Nope same ones, Scott, Mitch, Kirstie, Avi, and Kevin plus add Lyndsey. Kevin played Carnegie Hall on Cello as a teenager. Dude is freakishly talented...Yale Pre-Medical school, Speak Mandarin, pretty sure he got all my talent at birth lol. He is the creator of the music form known as Cello-boxing, that is how he was found to form PTX. Kirstie leads "My Favorite Things"....just putting it out there.
When forming Pentatonix in 2011, Scott found Kevin on UA-cam celloboxing. (Kevin invented it.) You will find out that Kevin is a musical genius. Recommend their cover of Come Along for something mystical.
I had a band when I was much younger and played drums and sang. Every member of PTX has more talent in a single pinky finger than I have in my whole body. When you drum you are working every limb of your body independently, and then if you add singing to it you are having to pay attention to how you sing, (pitch, tone, volume) so I can understand what kind of coordination it takes even though I am nowhere close to as talented as them. It is hard to explain but I had to use my brain differently when I had to do that. I was probably using more of it at once compared to normal activities.
I agree you should check out Down by Kevin...it's amazing....Been a PTX fan forever ! Missouri here. You should check out when they were on the Sing Off...you will enjoy it and how far they come.
I would suggest having a look at Kevin doing 'Down' Kevin is known for his 'Cello-Boxing' which is part of the reason Scott brought Kevin into PTX. I'm from Australia, I'm fairly new to PTX as well, I did hear them years ago but I have really started going down the rabbit hole only recently so am learning pretty quickly and enjoying the ride
Everyone starts out thinking Kevin Olusola is just the beatboxer, then little by little you see him do other things and it's like "Really?" , "And that too?". He's the sleeper in the group. Check out his channel where he does songs with cello and other things. He and Avi were the writers on the Daft Punk medley. I'm sure Ben Bram did some work on it too, but they got the main design going. Pentatonix and Lindsey Stirling also do a very strange and fun song in French : Papaoutai.
They have two other songs with Lindsey worth checking out. Also with Kevin on cello doing his celloboxing (beatboxing and playing cello together). Papaoutai all in French and Over the River their latest collab from their most recent Christmas Album. Oh and you can do their Christmas music all year long. Even though over the river song and video doesn’t have a Christmas feel. You’ll quickly learn that Ptx are the masters of Christmas music and are some of the best selling artist with their Christmas albums. Also no different members in this video. There’s only been one change in the 11 years they’ve been together. Avi left in 2017 and Matt came in to do bass. All other members are the originals. Kirstie and Mitch change their looks a lot over the years but it’s always them in every video.
Yup, Kevin is just dripping talent. As others have suggested, his solo work will blow your mind. Here's the link to "Down": ua-cam.com/video/IGjg193h4Ok/v-deo.html
Check out a Christmas song PTX did with Lindsey, "Over the River". The band did this one live on their Christmas tour last year. It's the old "over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house we go....", but it has a HUGE PTX twist to it. LIndsey and Kevin love playing together and they play in this song together as well. They do get better all the time. Check out their recent original album called "The Lucky Ones". EPIC! Thank you for your deep appreciation of their talent....and Lindsey's!
Beatboxer is Kevin Olusola…”KO on the beat okay…he’s the human 808” (this is a little rhyme from a PTX original called “Sing”. Great reaction. Decided to subscribe to follow your journey down the very deep PTX rabbit hole. Keep ‘em comin’!
Back when this cover first came out, it introduced (and immediately hooked) me on everyone involved. I've gotten to see them live, Lindsey once and PTX twice.
I'm in Colorado, USA, not too far from Denver. I've been following after the white rabbit that is PTX from about half way through the Sing Off show that they invented themselves for. So I fell down that rabbit hole pretty much from the beginning.
Original group of 5 with Lindsey. Only change in the group is when Matt comes in after Avi left. Anytime an instrument is used with PTX they show it and you know it has been added with their vocals. California
Kirsty, Matt, and Mitch have known each other since age 8. They called themselves the Trio. They tried to get on the show Sing. They were told a minimum of 5 people in the group to sign up. They found Ani and Kevin and they went on to win season 3. Home free won season 4.
Past the stratosphere maybe?? It doesn’t matter what you see/listen to, the best PTX is whatever you’re listening to right now. So when the next song cues up, it will suck you down the hole a bit more as it’s somehow better than the last one… no matter where you go for the next one it somehow tops it. 1 favorite is impossible to answer unless you say the one I’m listening to right now. Keep it up lots to catch up on but love your reactions. I enjoy seeing your enthusiasm build to the point you have to reel it back in a bit by pausing. We’re in the other side of our screens needing that moment to come back into the Milky Way at least. I feel so blessed to be living in this moment where even with all the negativity and political turmoil , that we have PTX to let us escape into that perfect world out there and just “be sucked into it” for a few before the song is over and the reality of life right now sets back in. … so go start another song quick. Imagine!!!
Long time Pentaholic from Alaska. Aren’t they just phenomenal? My daughter actually introduced me to them. She came home from school all excited one day after her music teacher showed the class their Evolution of Music video. They happened to be coming to our State Fair, so we got tickets. I was just in awe. If you want to see how they got their start, the Sing Off competition videos are a great rabbit hole. They were on the show in 2013.
I love your reactions to PTX... They have so many covers and originals it is hard to pick what you should react to next. They kill every song they do!!!!! Can't wait to see your reactions to their Christmas videos!!!!!!
There’s Kevin just beat-boxing and playing the cello, and I can’t even pat my head and rub my stomach at the same time….😂 Hoping you will also listen to some of their originals: Love Again, Coffee in Bed and Happy Now. Caution again: Your heart (and eyeballs) may not be able to survive their Cover of Can You Feel the Love Tonight?. It’s a must-hear, but just warning you….😵😁
Greetings from Mexico. You have barely begun to scratch the wondrous talent of Kevin Olusola. May I reccomend his cover of "Down"? It'll blow your socks off!
Thanks for a great reaction! Kevin Olusola has his own solo channel 'KO' that you should really check out starting with his cover of "Down". His talent will blow you away!
As other people have probably told you, they have done collabs with Lindsey Stirling at least two other times. One is their Christmas song Over the River and another is a cover of a French artist and the name of that song is Papaoutai. It's sung entirely in French and the video is very Toy Story. You'll have to see it to understand that. [Edited to add] Also, the very first instrumental notes you hear are from Beyoncé. No, not the singer, but Kevin's cello who is named Beyoncé. If you were wondering, yes, he is beatboxing and playing the cello at the same time. He invented cello boxing and is very, very good at it. I love this Imagine Dragons song, but I have to say that I do consider this an upgrade instead of a cover. Lindsay might have had something to do with that. Thanks for an excellent reaction! Cheers from the middle of Mormon Central, Utah!
I'm an Imagine Dragons fan and a Pentatonix fan, and was SO geeked when I first saw this come out. I already knew that PTX could do anything, but I had no idea how they were going to pull off the "bigness" of an ID song, even with Lindsey Stirling and Kevin Olusola as a string section. And then I heard it. And of course it was everything it was supposed to be, and bigger. Someone has probably already mentioned this, but in case nobody has, not only can Kevin beatbox and play cello, he also speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese. Hey from Grand Rapids, Michigan! :)
Minnesota chiming in again. Kirsten and Mitch are constantly changing their looks. But it's still them. Only change was their bass, original Avi left in 2017 and was replaced by Matt.
PTX collaborated with Lindsay Sterling on two other videos. My favorite is a Stromae cover called Papaoutai. It’s done in French and has amazing choreography as well. I know Albertans aren’t necessarily Francophiles but it’s not necessary to appreciate the song and video. It’s truly amazing. Other songs of PTX where Kevin plays the cello while beat boxing (cello boxing) are Shallow and Say Something. There are others but those are two of my favorites where the cello is added.
I’ll be the one to recommend this (it is one of my favorites)…Scott and Mitch have a side project called SUPERFRUIT, and I’d start with the song “Guy.EXE”
I love your reactions - I am going to suggest you try a bit of a slower pace with The Prayer and Amazing Grace - you know those songs but hear them through PTX and enjoy the 'elevation' you feel!
If you haven't already done so check out Toddrick Hall and PTX in Wizard of AHHs... Toddrick created songs to tell the story of the Wizard of Oz using modern music and PTX does not disappoint!!!
Oh, I hail from Kansas. I can look in any direction, and if my eyesight was good enough, see another state. We have Mt. Sunflower here, think it is just as tall as a sunflower. Thanks for another great reaction! You're pumping them out! 😁😁😎
When I think of how long I avoided watching this because I didn't like the original ... . Not a mistake I'll make again. Couple of suggestions for more from PTX: Can't Hold Us Can You Feel the Love Tonight
I'm in the UK and only fairly recently fell down the PTX rabbit hole too. Really enjoying discovering them along with you. We're not far off Christmas so when you get to reacting to their Christmas songs I suggest 'Oh Come All Ye Faithful' and 'Mary Did You Know'.
You are fun. If you would like to start at the beginning Babytonics won the sing off season 3. Those performances are on you tube. And are super fun to watch. Plus it contains some amazing performances
The other commenters are spot on that the collaboration of ptx and Lindsay Stirling for Papaoutai in all French is exquisite. If you like imagine dragons the it might be time for you to examine another very talented acapella group that elevates everything they touch. Voice Play and Alexa doing Enemy
If it hasn't been said before, PTX doesn't do just covers, they make upgrades LOL new subscriber here from West Virginia! Totally enjoy your reactions :)
Listen to some of their more recent music..they've matured into a super phenomenal a capella group..they've gotten even better with age..like fine wine..😊😊
I actually prefer this to the original--the instrumentation suits the song better, and I enjoy the video more too. It's simple and atmospheric, so the song really stands out. Try their 'Perfume Medley'. It's short but one of my favorites. Peace from Greece!
Hi from Australia Please do Carol of the Bells live and see if you can spot when or if Mitch takes a breath. I tried to breath when he does and I can't do it.
Why not do the original with Avi same Mitch breath problem but they changed absolutely nothing from 2013 arrangement and bass line when they first did it. To see Matt showcased try Grinch
I put this in the same league as Disturbeds cover of the Sound of Silence. (Ptx did a cover of that cover) Hard to find covers better than the original If you haven't heard it yet, Lindsey's song "Love Goes On and On" with Amy Lee of Evanescence is also just fantastic
Thanks for another great reaction! I'd recommend their collaboration with Todrick Hall, "The Wizard of Ahhhz". You'll really like it! Oh, and I can't wait until the end of the year when you get to their Christmas music.
Awesome!!! Another fantastic cover by them!!!Lindsey is an amazing artist and violinist in her own right, but featuring on this with PTX is pure fire!🔥also, great song to begin with...Imagine Dragons rock!! Couldn't have turned out better!!!coming at you from sunny California, where are you coming in from??✌out
It doesn't seem possible to get more than perfect, but they are that, and then they get even more that. And now you know why we all call their covers upgrades. 😉
All the same Ptx members as in Hallelujah. You might enjoy their cover of Say Something, and their original songs Run to You and Love Again. Ocean County, NJ, USA.
This video won Lindsey a UA-cam Music Award in 2013 in the category Response of the Year and was the first collaboration between Lindsey and Pentatonix. I like it better than the original by Imagine Dragons.
Hi from England! Great reaction - I am not a fan of the original but this is fantastic. There is a video on the making of this music video. It's a lot of fun.

Kevin's cello is named Beyonce! He doesn't bring it out often, but when he does it's epic! SHALLOW is another one where he shines!
He also plays the cello in “Perfect”!!
I love Scott’s lead on “Perfect”!
This is all the old gang. Mitch and Kirstie are chameleons.
Yep, Kevin invented celloboxing, doing both at the same time. Talent is just dripping of of him!

You will never look at Christmas music the same after you hear Pentatonix do it…and they have done a lot of it. Loving your reactions from Montana.

Wow, Matt, you are on a roll. Excellent!!! Good to see you’re trying to get around the copyright issues with some opacity on the vid. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite reactors. Nice work!
They do get better with Amazing Grace and The Prayer!!
Always keep in mind, there has ONLY been one member change, and that is AVI for Matt in 2017.
If you are in love with Kirstie, this is the song that really showcases her.
And. Rather be. And La La latch
They do a cover of John Lennon's "Imagine". Breathtaking! You'll see.

It's Me! From Virginia. 😊 When you said, They can't get any better? Can they?' I felt a collective smile. Yes. Yes they can. Great reaction. Thanks!
I agree….Watch Kevin doing “Down”. amazing! Greetings from Boise Idaho
Another video that features Kevin on the cello is Say Something. Also Kirstie’s singing will bring you to tears.
I think "Radioactive" goes hand in hand with "Natural Disaster." :) Put that on your list.
You need a live version for that with the effects
Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa. Leskey.
Their latest collab with Lindsey "Over the River" is equally as amazing.
Another collaboration with them is THE RIVER and PAPATOUIE.
Really enjoying your reactions to PTX! Ty from New Jersey
Kevin is amazing cellist as well. The fact that he can beat box while playing the cello is insane.
Epic, right! You've only just begun. You'll never regret.
When I think of how long I avoided watching this because I didn't like the original ... . Not a mistake I'll make again. Couple of suggestions for more from PTX:
Can't Hold Us
Can You Feel the Love Tonight
If you enjoyed his cello work PLEASE watch "Say something". Its a beautiful gut punch and makes me cry every time !
Perfection squared 🤯
I'm in the UK and only fairly recently fell down the PTX rabbit hole too. Really enjoying discovering them along with you. We're not far off Christmas so when you get to reacting to their Christmas songs I suggest 'Oh Come All Ye Faithful' and 'Mary Did You Know'.
I always give #mitchslapped
How you can remember Kevin’s name… #ko’d
Hey from Texas- the home state of Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch! Proud to share a state with them!
Perfection + Perfection = Sublime
I heard this first so when I heard the original it really pushed home that that don't do covers, they do upgrades
You are fun. If you would like to start at the beginning Babytonics won the sing off season 3. Those performances are on you tube. And are super fun to watch. Plus it contains some amazing performances
“Pentatonix does do covers, they do upgrades”
incredible. Joins pentatonix in over the river and papaouti when they sing in french
This song got me started with them and is always special to me . Hello from Ohio
Matts, the easiest way to remember Kevin's name is by his handle, K.O.! He got this nickname from his friends for a Knock Out doing celloboxing.
Wonderful choices so far! If you're an Imagine Dragons fan, check Voiceplay's versions of Warriors and Enemy.
I can easily imagine Radioactive and Warriors existing in the same Post-apocalyptic region.
Agreed - especially Warriors for Layne and J-None on violins!
@@kezmet5998 exactly.
I love your reactions. You really feel the music.
“Jolene” with Dolly Parton, “Can’’t Hold Us” Macklemore cover, “Amazing Grace”.
Is the word you’re looking for “transcend” perfection?
Hi from Australia Please do Carol of the Bells live and see if you can spot when or if Mitch takes a breath. I tried to breath when he does and I can't do it.
Why not do the original with Avi same Mitch breath problem but they changed absolutely nothing from 2013 arrangement and bass line when they first did it. To see Matt showcased try Grinch
@@gailseatonhumbert you could do either I just think it's easier to watch for when Mitch takes a breath in the live one
I put this in the same league as Disturbeds cover of the Sound of Silence. (Ptx did a cover of that cover) Hard to find covers better than the original
If you haven't heard it yet, Lindsey's song "Love Goes On and On" with Amy Lee of Evanescence is also just fantastic
Thanks for another great reaction! I'd recommend their collaboration with Todrick Hall, "The Wizard of Ahhhz". You'll really like it! Oh, and I can't wait until the end of the year when you get to their Christmas music.
Yay more Ptx,Pentaholic from u.k

The word you're looking for is sublime
This video won Lindsey a UA-cam Music Award in 2013 in the category Response of the Year and was the first collaboration between Lindsey and Pentatonix. I like it better than the original by Imagine Dragons.
Speaking of perfect. Check out their cover of "Perfect". One of Matt's early pieces.
Hi from England! Great reaction - I am not a fan of the original but this is fantastic. There is a video on the making of this music video. It's a lot of fun.
