Fun fact about Hamworthy, the station used to be the junction for the original line to Poole. Heading towards London, the original route turned to the north calling at Wimborne Minster and Ringwood before rejoining the current route just before Brockenhurst. The reason being, what we now recognise as Bournemouth and its suburbs, simply didn't exist when the railway arrived. The original Poole Branch still exists, albeit nowadays used by freight trains

Hamworthy station is at the entrance to Turlin Moor, one of the most depraved and crime-ridden areas of Poole. Good job you didn't go exploring round there, as you'd have been mugged for sure. Hamworthy itself is quite nice.

That industrial site at Holton Heath is a former Royal Naval munitions factory and is a scheduled national monument site too. Probably the very good reason why there is little else in the neighbourhood.

@@timwilliams1693 I know and there has been recent new builds in the village but the immediate area to the station does have the old naval factory and the scheduled monument status on a large part of the industrial area. Nobody would have wanted to live nearby that when it was making bombs. And the old factory site itself will be toxic as H&S wasn't a big feature a 100 years ago and munitions are made from extremely toxic chemicals.

You can tell how old I am! Our family used to get Holiday Runabout Tickets and ply all the lines from Weymouth to Brockenhurst and Lymington. We Generally stayed at my Grandmothers in Ringwood. We walked from Wool to Lulworth Cove once. At least once the train used Broadstone to Hamworthy Junction. Creekmoor Halt, Broadstone, Wimborne, West Moors, Ashley Heath Halt, Ringwood and Holmsley all gone. Two railways that sadly didn’t survive the closures were Lymington Junction to Hamworthy Junction ( and Holes Bay Junction) and Bournemouth West to Bath Green Park. Both would have been useful today even if Bournemouth West was closed.

Wool!!! Wool villiage is really nice to walk around and some good places to visit as well. I use Wool station to get to Bovington and the The Tank Muesum (which is about 2ish miles from Wool Station) and that's a pretty nice walk as well! I took my Dad to Dorset one year and he loved Wool, so much so I had to convince him to leave the Black Bear Pub in the centre of the village... There was a Ska band playing outside and he wanted to stay all night, not that we needed to get back to Waterloo that night LOL

Grew up around Wool, currently live in Hamworthy. My kinda train video 😂
The sidings in Wool use to be in constant use until about 7 or 8 years ago with sand being brought in by trucks from nearby quarries to go to Dorchester when Brewery square was being built utilising the sidings you see on approch, recall watching it through my nans window and then coming back in two stages with a light engine movement in-between. Also led to believe it took material towards Wembley at one point

I'm surprised when you were in Weymouth you didn't follow the route of the abandoned line to Weymouth Harbour - this is the one that ran through the streets with a top speed of 5MPH and had to have someone walking in front with a red flag. Though to be fair, I forgot all about it until we went last year and saw the abandoned tracks and signs telling us all about it

    • @Roblilley999

Not outside the station itself - they've preserved some last track before it joined the road section, however they have converted the trackbed into a footpath.

Bournemouth was the station that made me realise I liked trains , every year onward from 2020 we do the Basingstoke - Bournemouth route , and up at Bournemouth trains use to separate , and I always begged my mum to watch it happen (spoiler : I never got to see it , I did see coupling though) early that doesn't happen for me anymore when we get that train , when I'm older I'm going to go find a couple of trains that split and watch it happen like I wanted when I was 10 (I'm 13 now)

That door jamming thing happened to a friend's daughter, who couldn't get off at her stop so ended up going all the way to Bristol. That was an unexpected drive for him, going all the way up there to pick her up!

A few minutes walk up the hill from Moreton station you'll find Crossways. A really weird place, it's like a suburb of Dorchester but instead of putting it next to the bypass like a normal suburb they built it five miles away down a farm track.

Holton Heath was built to serve a Royal Navy Cordire Depot in 1924. It's a legacy station that never closed. The wood is (forest) is the actual Holton Heath.
The 442's used to have the delayed door issues too.
Moreton is often used in TV drama as various locations. You're probably too young to remember class 33/73 towing 4-CEP's and 4-TC to Weymouth before the juice rail was extended.

Wow that part of Dorset hasn’t changed much since the early 90s (although back then it was Network SouthEast, prior the privatisation of BR, with the colourful NSE liveries)
Ahh Weymouth beach…how many times have I been there out of season, taking “moody” photographs as part of my media courses at Weymouth College between 1992 and 95. There used to be a footbridge up the line from Weymouth station, where I’d happily while away time watching trains going to and from London Waterloo and Bristol Temple Meads

Wool the siding was for the sand trains - they would fill from the Quarry and take the sand up the line - not used anymore. just outside wool you pass the now defunct Atomic Energy site the home to numerous nuclear reactors. Holton Heath was fro the workers trains going tot he Admiralty Cordite Factory during the war, the site was used after that for Admitalty Research the land in the area is contaminated. The woodland is contaminated land.

Nick... Here's an idea for a video. From my comment earlier, I thought this video lacked structure so wasn't one of your best... but I thought it was wrong of me to 'criticise' without suggesting a genuine way you could remake the video. Fans of you, like myself, would like to know, I'm sure, about you and how it all began and your journey from holiday fascination with trains to your your tube channel. So how about remaking the video, starting off at the holiday camp and the train station and use clips of previous videos or even make new clips, to show your fans the 'journey' from little boy at a holiday camp to man with his own You Tube channel? I think you'd find it fun to make and your fans would find it interesting! Certainly more interesting than you just visiting a few random stations and walking about housing estates!!

Oh dear, a whole day in the worst sounding EMU in the world. The Desiro UK sounds like a police car on steroids. So glad German Desiro ML and HC have other frequency inverters.

Sorry Nick... not one of your better videos. No real structure to it!

You do realise that this video hes made is basically explaining when he realised he became a train enthusiast right..? Video doesn’t have to have structure or have to be better he’s just showing us how he first started off being a train enthusiast that’s a big deal for some going back to where they first started & how they got to be where they are today. So less of the negative Nancy mentality and appreciate what he’s showing you as it’s quite personal to him and he’s more than happy to share it with the rest of us which means lot so I thank for him for it even if you don’t.

@@LoneSheWolf09 I do. And the part where he was at the station where it all began was the only interesting bit. All the other stations were just Nick wandering about. No structure. Nick is a big fan, as I am, of Geoff Marshall...I wonder what Geoff would have made of this video. Geoff doesn't make videos where he just randomly wanders about! I like Nick. I'm one of his patreons. I enjoy his videos... Just that this one...was not up to his usual standard!

Looking forward to these videos as its the local line!
Also if the door gets stuck, just give it a little nudge and it should open although they do have a tendency to start closing or get stuck again 😅

Never mind, if I decided to hear that part, you did actually mention about giving the door a nudge
