VW turbo diesels are awesome cars, irrespective of the lawsuit woes. Mine is 25 years old, and runs like a champ. I often drive it rather than my 2017 car.
Want a good laugh? I had a 2010 Wrangler with a 6 speed manual transmission. Happened twice, valet parked, when runer went to get Jeep they came back after an extended wait, they told me the Jeep would not start, I asked if they pushed the clutch in, got a worried look and an admission they were pressing the brake peddle.
Still driving my 2000 VW GOLF TDI - 5 speed manual transmission....25 years old on Sept 15 and still getting 58 mpg all these new hybrids can't even get 58 mpg.
I was amazed to know that the manual cars are expensive in US. While in the rest of world manual are usually cheap and cheap to maintain and that's why people buy them. Also in many countries, you cannot have a driving license without knowing how to drive a manual.
I still don’t understand, I love manual transmissions. I had and old Mercedes 240d with a four speed manual transmission. You measured 0 to 60 with a calendar but it went 450,000 miles before a kid in a Mustang T-boned it.
It’s ridiculous how much electronic crap is in these new cars. I will keep my 25 year old vehicles that have had 2 codes in their life one was gas cap wasn’t tight enough and the second was cylinder 2 misfire which was a bad plug wire after 201,000 miles. They both have the original never rebuilt engine , trans and differential. Still going strong !!!!
I drive an Audi A4 2014 with the same engine, with a 2 liter 140 HP. VW have sold millions of these engines in Europe across all their brands and they are bullet proof. Mine has any 120 k Miles and is still in decent condition.
I got an 2017 AUDI S7 52k miles on it duel turbos V8. Owned it since 2019. No troubles at all. Tires where 450 each and my brakes were 2k. For all 4. Both done at 40k miles. It's time for her to go. I'm not gonna worry about it just selling it. I got the brakes done at a small German garage with an excellent mechanic. My luck will run out sooner or later. I will never take that car to the dealership. They wanted 4500 for the brakes. If you have an Audi, you have to find an honest mechanic, or you are going to get ript off.
I owned a 1983 VW Rabbit GTI. It had 525K miles on it when I sold it to a guy that wanted it badly. He bought it to modify it. He put and engine in it that Dynoed at 525hp.
Here on Balkan, VW is expensive as can be. It is considered as one of the best cars. People say it is best, doesn't get broke, low fuel consumption, no rust etc... I am talking about used cars. It costs at least 30% more compared to other cars in same class. You can buy Ford Focus with middle or full pack equivalent for less than VW Golf with basic equipment. For example I bought Focus with AC, Sony audio 8 speakers, cruise control, heated windshield, alloy wheel, leather steering wheel and power windows, for 3300€. While Golf of same age, only with AC, basic audio 4 speakers and power windows was priced 4000-4500€.
Those diesels were actually decent for Volkswagen. Then you could get them with a standard transmission. Which I do believe are better because you have more control over tue vehicle. However if you have neuropathy and or live in a very busy city with stop and go traffic you ain't going to want a standard transmission. Especially wear I live in Phoenix. However if you live in a small town with a small amount of traffic standard is the way to go or in the country. Standard is really good for 4 wheeling too. Back in the day you had floor shifts for your transmission and your 4 wheel drive.
When I see the blue badge hanging from the mirror, I often think to myself that driver could be impaired and have less reaction time. Should they be driving?
I drove VWs in my early driving years, any MK2 or MK3. They were great cars. The only issues I ever had were reverse gears going out (People not knowing how to drive stick) and the cars all rusted out. If they never rusted out I'd still be driving my good ol 91 Golf 1.8L 8V to this day. Or the 91 1.6L NA Diesel. Or the 92 GTI 16v.... or the 93 8v... or the 96 8v... or the 97 8v... or the 95 Jetta TDI. Too bad they all rusted out because everything else just ALWAYS WORKED. Those engines were underpowered and overbuilt to hell. I had a few spare engines that I picked up for literally $50 a pop, same with transmissions. The cars rusted out so badly that engines and transmissions and parts were PLENTIFUL back then. 80's had the Bosch mechanical fuel injection that you really don't want to mess with but Digifant (1990 I think) and newer were friggen bulletproof. I could drop the whole front subframe and do a clutch job in like 2 or 3 hours, by myself, no problem. Once the MK4s came out they had all kinds of crazy electrical problems and what not and I wanted nothing to do with them.
turbo diesels engine no matter what brand are underrated and under-appreciated why?...because people complain it's noisy while ignoring all it's benefits
I got a slightly used 1979 VW Rabbit for $ 2,300. It was base model with stick shift, manual clutch, carburetor, plastic seats, manual windows and seats. Dash was so plain looking I installed few knobs and switches that didn't do anything but added eye appeal. I drove that thing until it fell apart from salt on the roads and high mileage. It didn't give me any problems, ever. I would never consider buying one made today. It or any other German made car.
It’s excellent and have a very very good break system. Very good electronic. Personally I never see that in any others brand like Lexus or Accura ecc ecc. Made in Germany. It’s good for europee. They usually have 150 hp 2,0L.
I had a KIA Soul 2016, it burned 3 qts every 5k it had a GDI 4 cylinder and I have never seen anything burn that much and not have smoke or a clogged catalytic converter 🧐 so we traded it in, and my daughter has a 2024 Jeep compass to safely transport my granddaughters to school with, what's up with Kia?
I love it, most americans don't know how to drive hahahaha, but I need to say in early 80's lot of my friends in San Francisco know how to drive with manual shifters
Scotty the reason I'll not buy another TC vehicle if possible is because typically: It requires premium fuel, at least to perform optimally . They don't their rated economy. When the turbo wears out before the engine It's going to be thousands.
He needs to do a blooper video - guaranteed that dude has just opened someone’s glovebox to a 🔫 or some blow or something not needing to be viewed by outsiders
I used to drive manual transmissions. The first car I ever had had at a force. Speed manual Earth transmission. But there really something of the of the past, the technology that's gone into it. Automatic transmissions makes it so that they're not only quicker, but they're also. More convenient and it makes it makes things easier when you're driving. And you don't have to mess with the clutch on hills and overall with a dual clutch automatics. There's almost no reason to have a manual transmission anymore
It’s dirty and dusty on the inside AND outside. How ‘bout them apples. Manual’s are so much more fun to drive. Grew up driving a 1976 VW Bus. Loved that thing. Had no idea how iconic it was. For us, it’s was our driving all over the country vehicle (slept on homemade cushions, sat on a thermos between the driver and passenger seats, surfed in the center without the middle seats). Good times…wild we did all of that before seatbelts were a thing. Won’t drive w/o a seatbelt nowadays though. Scotty is right about the diesel Jetta, it will go forever. Almost guaranteed to have electrical issues, but if you can live with those, enjoy the german handling.
Wow, Volkswagen still made station wagons in 2013. Most automakers stopped making station wagons in America by then. Subaru & Volvo were also some of the last manufactures to make station wagons
Nothing beats a manual transmission behind a turbo diesel. Torque for days and speed is overrated anyways. A decent inline 4 turbo diesel can burn rubber and still have great mileage.
I generally like diesels over gasoline engines. Those GM 350 diesel disasters in the late 70s/early 80s really gave diesels a bad name that has stuck to this day.
Owner of that VW is not very smart he put almost all the money the insurance company gave him back into his car trying to fix it up after they told him it was a total loss? lol 😂On top of it all he used WHITE sealant(instead of CLEAR sealant) on the outside to stop the sunroof leak so now it makes the car look even worse with the whole crushed look of the car smh 🤦♂
"Diesel gate" was pretty stupid considering THAT kind of fuel mileage! This Govt. CAFE crap trying to squeeze out an extra couple of MPG with all this ridiculous over engineering, GDI, 10 speeds, etc....
Anybody that hates diesel motors is just crazy, particularly in a country with a lot of motorway. They already can break any speed limit anybody ever set, towing !
Yes, but you need to make some semblance of repair if it affects car competence. The police or DMV will reclassified it as Rebuilt in most states. It is insurable, but if totalled again, you won't collect as much.

I love driving a stick. I've had a few of them. I think everybody should learn how to drive in a stick shift vehicle.
He spent $6,000 to drive a car 160K miles. I call that a bargain, the best I ever seen.
Station Wagons are the best cars, it is a shame people doesn't appreciate them.😢
oldsmobile station wagons popular in the 70s. by early, mid 80s, volvo wagons were everywhere.
The original minivans, and now we can't afford station wagons or minivans.
Station wagons are my favorite.
Mythbusters tested fuel mileage on a car with golf ball dimples and it got better. So hail damage is a plus.😎👍
That's nuts, I'll have to see 🙈
And also admitted it was a prank just to see what car companies will do...
Something that's rusted out gets fairly good mileage

Scotty the reason I'll not buy another TC vehicle if possible is because typically: It requires premium fuel, at least to perform optimally . They don't their rated economy. When the turbo wears out before the engine It's going to be thousands.
Hey, Scotty… Your videos are great. That said, the headlines are simply stupid. I sincerely doubt they get any more people to watch your stuff.
Hey scotty can you make a video on the is300 lexus
WTH? This used to be a car repair channel....now it is a car review channel?
Mazda? 🤔
Where in the US are you located?
how is it a perfect car with 3 major drawbacks?
At least use a clear silicone on the roof.
He needs to do a blooper video - guaranteed that dude has just opened someone’s glovebox to a 🔫 or some blow or something not needing to be viewed by outsiders
Definitely Scotty's kind of rolling wreck.
Umm, Mexico is in North America!
don't tell that to an American
It’s Central America
@@briantokar8636 North America.
Technically it is but it's shite.
@@J-ge7qethat’s not how geography works
Dimples make a golf ball go further they should make a cargo further and probably get better gas mileage
There's almost no reason to have a manual transmission anymore
...AND I'M BUYING ONE! :D
Original diesels built by Diesel ran on PEANUT OIL.
Plain old Mexican Peanuts! That is the part of North America Peanuts came from! 😀🤗
Since they don’t have a mission standards in Tennessee, can you buy one of those diesel engines that pollute more?
If you don't care and don't give anything about cars, you can drive something like this. A perfect example of a NON car guy😅😂😂
If the car is 🐸-led, then you must always take it to Scotty the Witch Docta Supreme” - Sun Tzu and Confucius probably
the worst car ever made...............the vw rabbit
GFYS vw
ComeOnMan.....I wish my left knee wasn't worn out. Because I love manual transmission cars.
Imagine a world without Scotty kilmer !
My dream car.
Best car ever owned tdi vw!
Diesels use forced induction because without, they don't burn all the fuel in the cylinder.
Love Scotty’s Hitler impersonation. 🇩🇪
Vw left? 😂
Why do you have to move your arms so much?
I want one of them
I love Scotty's German accent. 😂❤
Anybody that hates diesel motors is just crazy, particularly in a country with a lot of motorway. They already can break any speed limit anybody ever set, towing !
Scottys is so giddy when someone gets a great deal. 😂
Can u legally drive a documented “totaled” car? Wouldn’t car insurance drop your coverage? I’m genuinely curious.
Yes, but you need to make some semblance of repair if it affects car competence. The police or DMV will reclassified it as Rebuilt in most states. It is insurable, but if totalled again, you won't collect as much.
@@pablobruise1388 thank you for an explanation. Would u need proof it was rebuilt? Owner said he did nothing to this car.
Your videos are the benchmark of quality on UA-cam. Thank you for your hard work and professionalism!🚚👿🚥
