Amir Jan Herawi - rubab - 1989

A tribute to Amir Jan, a well known harmonium, rubab player and singer from Herat who took refuge in Peshawar in 1979, featured in John Baily's film "Amir" (1985). He left this world in September 2023.
This archive video of a private gathering is of poor quality but nontheless contributes to his legacy. Unfortunately I do not know who is the tabla player
Recorded by Prof. Sakata in february 1989 in Peshawar, at the house of Bruce Wannell.

Heartbroken to hear about this tragic loss of an artist and genius. Amir Jan also featured prominently in the documentary 'Breaking the Silence' about music in the first period of Taliban rule. He will be remembered all over the world. رحمه الله
