Imagine Origins where you couldn’t climb up the great pyramid or Odyssey where you couldn’t climb out onto Zeus’ thunderbolt… and that’s Outlaws Having played both of those amazing games and really enjoying them, I completely agree. Outlaws is sort of trying to be those games, but it reminds the player at nearly every turn that it’s just not…
While I agree that the combat could have been much more interesting. But tbh, it would feel really repetitive, just like in avatar that feels like far cry reskin. Atleast this game changes things up which makes it less boring than other ubisoft games. Plus the stealth sections makes you feel like a badass. Also I really like the fact that there is always an alternate way of doing things. My only gripe is that I wish that the AI was a little smarter and being exposed to one guy wouldn't result in the whole base being alerted.
@StillLateToTheParty But isn't that a good thing that it isn't an AC game. When Avatar was released everyone was saying it's just far cry with blue people. So the fact that this game has its own identity is a good thing imo. Obviously it has its flaws but atleast it shakes things up making it less boring.
Every single article with massive leader devs highlights what an incredible job the studio did with Star Wars photo mode!! Very concerning listening to devs speak
its like the people making these games dont actually play games. which actually makes sense, because nobody who actually plays games would willingly work at Ubisoft.
Praising the setting is the lowest hanging fruit in a Star Wars game. Of course the setting feels good, there is an abundance of Star Wars lore and design to choose from.
I won't hate this game. The best I can say is that it's fine. Best to get it on sale or wait till it's free through PS Plus/Game Pass or whatever. And I feel bad to those who shelled out the big bucks for early access and their games were reset, but lends to the "Never Pre-Order" argument.
Lol at the wall climb. You know, AC2 did climbing so well. You'd crab things that actually looked crabable, there was actual mechanics aside from auto climb like wall jumping and the ledge jump you could perform and you overall just had a lot more control. It's so weird ubisoft just had to ruin it later down the line.
Cohh is being professional. He is saying that this game is not for him. Tries to not commit a career suicide. The current generation of developers and management are too dumb and emotionally driven to understand when someone tells them when something is disappointing because they go with how they feel about the words that comes out of someone's mouth. If you worked even half a year for a corporation you see and understand how companies that adopt that kind of corpo language. They care more about spewing words that sound good rather than having any kind of substance. Writing this reminds me of a certain character in Oregairu. Hachiman meets a group of students to organize something(I forgot what) and the students group say alot of bullshit and drag everything on instead of setting goals and start completing them. That is what an almost perfect analogy of what corpo management is. That is if you have watched Oregairu and remember those episodes. L.E: I forgot to add an example of how to say professionally (hopefully subtlely) that someone is dumb. Uhm, hello there. I have noticed that you are slow with completing this task. What is happening? Do you need help? Normally, this task takes 10 minutes. Has your laptop ran out of battery? Did you have a break and forgot to announce someone? Oh, you dont know how to insert a function in an excel sheet? Hang on, let me give you a tutorial. Here, follow these images. I've highlighted the important parts.
There are terrible mechanic and reload choices they made with the game. What bothers me about the story is that all the characters around Kay are objectively more interesting and had better writing than her as the protagonist.
This is very common for videogames protags Even if they are predetermined. To not alienate anyone playing the MC they just make them very empty with basic motivations and goals.
@@Fighton31in a way though he's sort of right in the sense that you know what you're getting so anyone who expected anything other than a Ubisoft game is a complete moron. Whether they're good or bad or in-between as I'd say is a different story but there definitely shouldn't be "surprise" from people when they're playing a Ubisoft game and for me that's the biggest thing about this. My mind is completely blown by anyone who expected anything other than a Ubisoft game from Ubisoft. It's just being surprised when you find out you can steal cars in GTA6
I am about 20 hrs in and I am really enjoying the game. I like the fact that it's so densely packed. The hub cities aren't just a place for you to upgrade stuff, but they offer so many opportunities and rewards. Also I really like the fact that there is always an alternate path to do things stealthily making you feel like a badass. Inwas skeptical at first and after a long time I feel wanting to return back to a ubisoft game which usually feels very repetitive and boring. This one spices things up a little and I am really digging it.
I like the game a lot too. I feel gaslighted by all the people saying the game is terrible. I expected a bad game and was pleasantly surprised by what it has turned out to be
@victory7763 exactly. I find myself wanting to explore each and every corner in search of intel and secrets, which is something I haven't done for a long time in a Ubisoft game. Outlaws is really amazing and deserves more love than what it's getting.
My first contact with the Star wars series was Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. it was the first game that i achieved a platinum trophy and it also sucked me into the star wars lore, since then i have been delving deeper into the star wars universe and also the reason why i was devastated when i knew ubisoft was gonna get involved.... 😮💨
As someone growing up with all the lucasarts star wars games, i can say lived through an golden age. Probably for video games in general, when the people making them had passion and wanted to make the best game possible instead of the souless aaa corporate slog we mostly get these days. Ea was allready a disappointment. While i have to say that i didn't play jedi fallen order. The downgrade the new battlefront was compared to the original alone soured the mood. Ubisoft now is an even bigger letdown. The haven't made a good game since what, a decade by now. This game looks so painfully bland and mediocre. Alone the bad ai, the combat, and several bad design choices make this at best a 5/10 game. And sorry that simply doesn't cut it anymore. For 70 bucks you get 2-3 top games at the next sale. Don't give them money for this mediocre slog. That is the only way to get back quality. To speak with your wallet. The state star wars is in is just sad. And this game doesn't make it better.
I usually like Cohh's takes, but the amount of mental gymnastics to not say that the gameplay & the AI sucks is impressive. I have watched Asmon play this and the AI is ridiculous, with him hiding in bushes while numerous enemies are on top of him without detection and shoot numerous times directly at him, with him being protected by the indestructible bushes. 🤦🏻♂
Me and Cohh are similar, because we both think this game sucks and it didn't meet our expectations. But we are different, because I have had extremely low expectations.
The way they butchered the way Kay looks compared to the way Kay’s actress actually looks is a crime. I’ll answer the question of whether or not it’s worth the money, HELL NO. Don’t pay more than $20 for this game with all of the DLC and patches included. In about four years it might be ready
The thing is, I am really digging the premise of exploring the Underworld of SW, being a scoundrel, traveling the galaxy. All that flavor and story is great. BUT! For that kind of setting to actually live up to its fullest potential you have to pair it with either a) Uncharted-style narrative, linear action game or b) Mass Effect-style narrative, character and setting-driven RPG with proper RPG systems. That's the only two ways it would work. If you water down the gameplay this much, well... no amount of cool, famos IP flavor will be able to cover for the shallowness of the game itself.
3:04 THANK YOU so much for saying this. This is what the issue was with the last Splinter Cell game and I fear they will do the same thing with the remake. Finally a popular content creator calls this out.
Thank you for a balanced review and with constructive feedback. This is way beyond what all the YT haters out there that just hate things as click bait to make money for them.
It’s games like this where I sit back and think wow gta 5 came out in 2013 and is still better than the 🗑️ that’s out now and don’t even get me started on RDR2
A week ago there were 20 copies of this on the shelf at my local Walmart a week later there's still 20 copies of this on the shelf at my local Walmart.
My biggest gripe is the auto-save system - you can't save in the middle of a mission, and some missions (so far) have had a fail state of getting caught. I had to roll back over 10 minutes and re-enter an area and take out the same half a dozen enemies and distract others to get to where I got caught - just to get caught there again trying to figure out where to go. Any game that makes me repeat content drives me crazy, I just have a huge issue with it, and not letting me save during missions or at the least have some checkpoints as you make your way into an infiltration is wild. The last time I played I was issued a mission and had to make my way down a cliff to the entrance (1,050ft from where the mission was given) and exploring it I was looking for a card to steal when I got caught - it wasn't instant fail, but I was tying to build rep with this faction so I reloaded, thinking I'd be at the start of the area - nope, I was still on top of the cliff, right after being told the mission. I didn't even want to re-play navigating down the cliff and to the area again, let alone clearing out to the locked door.
I have had the opposite experience tbh. The game for me has auto-saved SO MUCH. I think the auto-save system is actually TOO generous in some story missions...
And then what type of Star wars fan are you? Because if you're a Disney Star wars fan this is your game, if you're an older EU fan not so much. Before people attack me I am fine with new Star wars existing but stop trying to gaslight me and tell me that it's the same thing cuz it's not. Just like my Star wars wasn't my father's. That's the reason splinters of mine's eye and shadows of the Empire take place at the exact same time, different story.
This game has no "character", there is nothing memorable in here. Nothing. Everything is extremely safe and rote. The story isn't engaging because the characters are not engaging. The writing is criminally cookie-cutter. 10yr olds might roll with it but what the about the rest of us? It took about half an hour of watching a stream of Outlaws before I knew exactly what the rest of the game would be like and that I'll never purchase it.
Hold on, you're telling me they actually tried to lip sync in this game? I thought they just did that thing from decades ago where the lips just moved to their own tune.
The character face animation has not improved in Ubisoft games for the last 10 years, the environment and atmosphere deserved better. Otherwise I really liked the immersion, everything felt true to Star Wars.
This game is baffling. They nailed the atmosphere well. The rest is jarring against that. A lot of talented devs there, obviously, but whoever was navigating this ship ran it aground.
He did. Cohh going off on a tangent about why he can't give you the answer is his way of saying it isn't there. Just look at Core Keeper 1.0 launch. He said in his early thoughts video that he doesn't even need to play more of it to know that it's an amazing game and an easy recommendation. He didn't need to finish the 1.0 launch to determine with the game was worth the money. It is rare for Cohh to actually say something this bad because Cohh just loves video game. This is his version of "Get it on sale.".

I like this game so what does that make me then an idiot then like I just idk I like this kinda game so I guess it was made for me even if it isnt exactly everything I want a Ubisoft Star Wars game to be like I want a UBisoft game to take place far away from the movies and be just different in every aspect but even so I really do like this game I just enjoy being in a new Star Wars game that is open world or has a big world to it like we dont get hardly any Star Wars games like this so if this tanks I dont know if we will ever get one again and that would just be terrible I think anyways. like in the past 15 years how many new Star Wars games did we even get like 6 or 7 maybe. I guess my point is just understand how lucky people are to even get a new Star Wars game at all.
Unfortunately for me Outlaws is an excellent example of passion derailed by incompetence. And I don't know if this is the result of incompetence of the developers, of the management, incompetence in planning or marketing. Doesn't really matter, because in entertainment what matters is the end product. And the end product isn't good enough. This is a AA game made with a AAA engine (and Ubisoft probably think this is an AAAA product).
The walk/run thing is a workaround to hide ugly sliding feet at slow speeds and jank interpolated running. It can save on animation costs if the team doesn't have the capacity to do more gradiated intermediate animations. Can't remember which game did it first but for games where you rarely vary your movement speed between walk and run it's a sensible tradeoff. Though in this case I'd lean towards it being the wrong choice, careful manoeuvring in stealth, for instance, needs fine controls.
From the day the trailer came out, i said this was the game id get for my girlfriend to maybe convince her to watch or just jump into the universe with me... at no point did i ever think this was made for the fans of star wars
After I have played it for about 30 hours I can tell you exactly why I think it's a really solid game. Everyone is looking at it comparing it to assassin's creed because it's made by ubisoft, or to fallen order because it's star wars, no one seams to be looking at it and simply seeing that have a fully open world star wars game where we can actually fly a ship. We have never really had that before, and the stealth mechanics feel appropriate for our character, especially early game. While I know everyone seams to want to through this game under the bus, I think everyone who is a star wars fan should give it a try, I had a lot of fun with the sebacc games and finding the little food stalls for nix's abilities. It might not be the absolute perfect star wars game ever made, but it's definitely the most fun I've had in a star wars game in a very long time.
But it is a reskinned Assassin's Creed. The climbing mechanics give it away, the brain dead AI give it away, the stealth mechanics give it away, the inability to change your blaster give it away. Assassin's Creed is also fully open world. So is Far Cry. You might be ok with mediocre games, the rest of us expected better.
One of the biggest ip of all times is getting an open world game, from a studio with infinite money... and all we get it's a average, boring and souless game that feels like a copy of their past games with terrible ai... imagine if rockstar, or naughty dog or guerrilla, even cdprojeckt made this game... what a waste.
Just beat it and I really liked it, sorry that doesn’t fit in with the hate everything triple a and Star Wars narrative that’s going around at the moment but it’s a solid 8/10 for me
It’s made for me. I don’t know what to do with my money and I love star wars. Also people, get a life; bashing games is becoming a dumb trend. Be constructive. Massive is a good company. Ubi is not.
I don't think Star Wars Outlaws is aweful, not as much as so many influencers say... The game doesn't change any lore, and that's most important to me, because i didn't like games studios reticoning things. I think this game looks better than the EA games that came before, and I'm glad ubisoft has the license to make these games now. The game is like a bunch of other games, and a bunch of games are like a bunch of other games. I've not played a truely original game in many years, so I'm not sure if the game reviews or whatever influencers have expectations set correctly. Its just another average current Gen game, without much else.
I'll give you the lipsync issue. That really annoyed me at first. The character development and story arcs ended up working really well later on. It's not the best game I've ever played, but got-damn if it's not the piece of media that makes me most feel like I'm in the Star Wars universe. It's not a hard game, though I can feel accomplishment at stealthing through an entire camp undetected or clearing a room before they can trigger the alarms. The gameplay, combat, and mechanics aren't perfect, but they're all enjoyable, and I enjoyed them quite a bit. I paid for Ubisoft+ and beat the game in a week. $17 for 55hrs of gameplay was absolutely worth it for me. I'll resub when the DLCs come out to play them. The game is an 8.5/10 in my book. If you like Star Wars, it's worth your time to experience the game. If you don't really vibe with the gameplay, just do the main story and you'll really enjoy your time!
Hah, same boat here. 56 hours on the save, for 17 dollars. Now have to wait for the dlcs. Loved experiencing the setting and time in the saga I know so well, from a rooted and different perspective.
@@ciege7486 I'm curious what would have made it an 8.5/10 for you. What could they have added, improved on, or removed that would have made you like it more?
Man, the worst thing a game can do to pull me out of the immersion is bad face animations. It's like "Oh, so you're not real" instead of "Oh my God, this character feels so real"
This is a well articulated adressing of the game's issues. I like the fact that you took your time and explained why you might not finish this game. I just wish there would be a similar explanation for your Armored Core VI playthrough, since i thought that game would be in your alley too, since its scifi, and for many people, its a much better game than this one, although a different game-genre.
Thats why i appreciate cohh so much. Not jumping on the bandwagon and calling this game trash or anything like that. Seeing the good and bad in the game and saying his honest opinion about it, not saying outlandish stuff to attract views (looking at you asmon). Thx for that cohh
I should be playing Outlaws while thinking how lucky I am for growing up a Star Wars fan. Except I’m playing Wukong while thinking how lucky I am for being Chinese and having grown up a Journey to the West fan. It would have been nice to have both.
What this game reminds me of is an expensive McDonalds hamburger. Some like it, others would enjoy it more if it was cheaper. Even then, most people will simply get a more quality experience from something else.
Here’s my thought Many player asked for story based Star Wars games which I don’t think the studios like as it’s basically a one time purchase… so the past 3 games they made intentionally bad , then secretly they’ve probably developing another multiplayer micro-transactions extravaganza to milk whatever they can to recoup

The Jank is strong with this game...
That's honestly the best description. There's a fun product underneath the jank, but most people aren't going to see past it because it's Ubisoft.
Found you on a Satisfactory video, now subbed and am watching your incredibly accurate reviews. Keep fighting the good fight! ;)
Absolutely loves these kinda thoughts videos, please do more of them! :D
The main character is so flat that even the plot of this game isn't that flat.
Flat in more ways than 1.
Every single article with massive leader devs highlights what an incredible job the studio did with Star Wars photo mode!! Very concerning listening to devs speak
its like the people making these games dont actually play games.
which actually makes sense, because nobody who actually plays games would willingly work at Ubisoft.

This looked like Star Wars with Team America characters.
That is a good way of putting it.
"Celebrated" is not a word I would use to describe any Star Wars content from the last ten years or so.
Praising the setting is the lowest hanging fruit in a Star Wars game. Of course the setting feels good, there is an abundance of Star Wars lore and design to choose from.
"Antici-Sucki-ness"

I won't hate this game. The best I can say is that it's fine. Best to get it on sale or wait till it's free through PS Plus/Game Pass or whatever. And I feel bad to those who shelled out the big bucks for early access and their games were reset, but lends to the "Never Pre-Order" argument.
Thanks for the video Cohh! Love the editing!

"not, it's bad" fixed it for you.

@Fighton31 oh look it's somebody the op was talking about 😂
I am about 20 hrs in and I am really enjoying the game.
Made for the *moooooodern auuuudience* 💀
@@spane81I still have dreams of Tie Fighter remastered with msfs 2020 graphics would be amazing.
He is aware of his brand and who buys the entrertainment he sells. Nobody watch Cohh for an accurate assessment of why a garbage game is garbage.

Me and Cohh are similar, because we both think this game sucks and it didn't meet our expectations. But we are different, because I have had extremely low expectations.
AVGN in the first second of a Cohh video? That's my two favorite content creators ever.
You lost me at Ubisoft
The way they butchered the way Kay looks compared to the way Kay’s actress actually looks is a crime.
I’ll answer the question of whether or not it’s worth the money, HELL NO. Don’t pay more than $20 for this game with all of the DLC and patches included. In about four years it might be ready
Did they though? i.ytimg.com/vi/uls_c3fYRFI/hqdefault.jpg
If you water down the gameplay this much, well... no amount of cool, famos IP flavor will be able to cover for the shallowness of the game itself.
why did they de-hotify the motion capture/ voice actresses
Gotta put a stop to that big bad male gaze.
This year is crazy. So much money burned by so many big companies.
Another strongly edited video knocked out of the park again!! Ohh also thank you for your thoughts cohh extremely well articulated.
The vibe I get online is that Outlaws is an amazing exploration of the Star Wars universe right up until the point where you have to play the game

THANK YOU so much for saying this.
Damning with faint praise.
A week ago there were 20 copies of this on the shelf at my local Walmart a week later there's still 20 copies of this on the shelf at my local Walmart.
I'm not defending the game what so ever but you do know that companies restock product on shelves periodically right?
Likely I will wait for a sale and to see if mods can improve on the lackluster design elements.
love the review dude. would appreciate to listen to your voice in isolation from the game noise tho
This game is legit. Some of these reviews are wild.
great quality, more of these :)
The main character has the body of Stevan Tyler
This game has no "character", there is nothing memorable in here. Nothing. Everything is extremely safe and rote. The story isn't engaging because the characters are not engaging. The writing is criminally cookie-cutter. 10yr olds might roll with it but what the about the rest of us? It took about half an hour of watching a stream of Outlaws before I knew exactly what the rest of the game would be like and that I'll never purchase it.
Hold on, you're telling me they actually tried to lip sync in this game? I thought they just did that thing from decades ago where the lips just moved to their own tune.
Observe and report had the best quote about pretty garbage. "You can polish a turd but it's still a piece of shit"
I don't get why so many were excited for this. They all knew Ubisoft was making it.
“Do I think it’s worth the money? I can’t answer that for you.”
Answer it for yourself like the question asks. Geez.
The question is yes because it's content for streaming. However that's not really what the asker has in mind, because the answer is an obvious yes.
True answer is no. Not in the state that it is. Is it worth the price at $30? perhaps.

I guess my point is just understand how lucky people are to even get a new Star Wars game at all.

Another Great video! Keep up the great work team!

That " woman" looks like the kid from Mask, that old movie with Cher in it.
Omg you’re right! Now everytime I see her, that kid will be in my mind!
I wish I was joking too, but damn, I’m serious.
4:40 "It's not a bad game." Whatever you say! Hahahaha.

When you exited for a Ubisoft game and get disappointed that’s on you 😅
I don't think Star Wars Outlaws is aweful, not as much as so many influencers say...
Ubisoft+ is the way to go, i did the same for avatar and prince of persia
Good God.....What I'd give to be able to consider something like this an 8.5/10.... actually, I don't feel like a lobotomy would be worth it.
@@ciege7486 I'm curious what would have made it an 8.5/10 for you. What could they have added, improved on, or removed that would have made you like it more?
2:16 Well put.
I'm experiencing this with my 2nd attempt @ Cyberpunk 2077 and having to remind myself to stop.

Yes, great analogy. And you always know what you will get.
Here’s my thought
Many player asked for story based Star Wars games which I don’t think the studios like as it’s basically a one time purchase… so the past 3 games they made intentionally bad , then secretly they’ve probably developing another multiplayer micro-transactions extravaganza to milk whatever they can to recoup
