Here's one of my thoughts, if the four cardinals cant invade other worlds then how are Glass and L'arc able to cross over to their world every time the waves occur or for example to tortoise occurred. They come over like its no problem and say that they have to defeat the four cardinals there to save their world. It makes me question what their goal actually is. just a thought

Originally, Ralphtalia was supposed to get separated from Naofumi and be with Larc and his party. It was only him and Risha that got sent to the labyrinth and found the hunting hero.
Actually, it's not his new tortoise shield that allows him to travel, the spirit tortoise herself granted him permission to travel to another world before she died.
I personally always loved this arc because it basically shows you how Naofumi would've treated the hero job and how much more efficient he would've been if people just supported him from the get-go since he starts with an ally now instead of needing to save and grind money for an entire month before he could even afford Raphtalia. I will say it's interesting that the anime has him with Raphtalia in this world from the start since the LN and manga had both Raphtalia and Filo missing. Now it looks like he'll just have to find Filo instead of both of them.
True. But man, that slight change in where she is drastically alters the story. For real, the moment I saw her there, I was slapped to the neighboring dimension for a hot 15 minutes.

It fits better with my perception of Naofumi as the kind older brother that saved his brother from breaking bad. They definitely leaned more into giving him a heart of gold underneath the rough exterior. I'll always have LN and Manga Naofumi, but I'm willing to see how they take these changes and see if I like him better this way.

The change up here really didn’t sit well with me when I heard about it but after watching it I think they did a decent job handling it, I’m excited to see how they will introduce all the other elements of this arc
I don't know why, but my sus meter was lowkey going off on Kizuna at the end there. I was half expecting her to pop out a evil face right at the end, but I hope I am wrong because she seems like a cool new character.
So, here I am, joyfully rewatching this fantastic reaction, binging tf outta the whole damn season, and then.......this shite happens. Episode 7. When the anime decided, "Nah. Let's not go with the sick af character building and higher stakes. Let's do "Easy Fing Mode" and just have Raphtalia stay with Naofumi instead of L'Arc and them." It actually made my stomach turn, realizing this rabid disappointment all over again. I have a....few "Absolute Fav Animes," but when that topic cones up, Shield Hero is probably 1st or 2nd said. This bullshite hurts damn near as much as unforgivable Eminence in Shadow anime only seasonfinake. At least Shield Hero added a random naked Raccoon Hottie nude scene that wasn't in the book.
This is so weird. I have only read the manga and raphtalia is not supposed to be with him, I even looked up the lightnovel (volume 8) and it seems that Raphtalia is also not with him there. This changes so much, one of the important story threads was finding her. There is growth for both Raph and Naof that cannot happen without the separation and there was more exposure to glass and larc through Raphtalia. I really have no idea how they want to make the story work without that....
That's because the entire purpose of the spirit tortoise arc is to bring us to the other world arc. As someone who read the LN I was most anticipating getting to this point here.
Remember when Naofumi's party first met L'Arc and Therese and the latter also needed to go to that island and take advantage of the level up bonus? Now you know why. Heroes cannot crossover into another world without a penalty.
This does come in handy for the waves though... as it factors in their total power from ALL worlds.... Basically, something like a lv60 from Raphtalia's world and lv75 from L'Arc's world, would basically make Naofumi like a lv135 during the waves.
At 6:04 Roshi said that the Hunting Hero and Shield Hero are from the same "world", technically correct, while they are both japanese they arent from the same world, remember back in Season 1 when they were all summoned and comparing history to each other but all of it was different to the japan they know. All four of the cardinal heros shield, sword, spear, and shield are all Japanese but they all arent from the same world as Naofumi. If that makes sense

In the manga, Kizuna's fishing line only cut off the kappa's head, so when it straight up exploded, I was like DAMN. Also I love how Naofumi was using real-world program logic by using an overflow glitch to flood the room with data via the bio-plant and break through the weak spot.

This episode is probably going to trigger the Manga and Light Novel readers for how they changed stuff up. Not sure how the hell they are going to steer Raphtalia back to her story development.
To answer your question Roshi, unless they explain it later, Naofumi does still have access to the spirit tortoise heart shield but he's not at the required level to use it, however and if I'm remembering this correctly most if not all his other shields can't be used so there's more than likely going to be new shields he unlocks to replace them.
I was quite surprised when I saw Raphtalia... I was not expecting to see her at all this episode. In the light novel and manga she was sent to a different location, much like Filo was. Finding her was something of a plot point and I'm worried about what they are going to do now. Because she was absent certain things happened that effected the story from this point forward. I hope they don't cut them.
Tbh I didn't read the manga, LN or the WN I only read from the wiki due to curiosity of mine and I don't have the money to buy things for myself yet, anyways yeah it was shocking and confusing on why did they change raphtalia from being in l'arc's group to naofumi's group, let us just hope this season won't flopped like everyone else's gossiping about.

This episode was the best so far, it really gave the s1 vibes, the world building is back and Naofumi has reclaimed his spotlight! The new girl Kizuna is a true Cardinal(Legendary hero) of another world like Naofumi unlike L'arc or Glass who are Vassal heroes. Ps- They straight up used minecraft Glitch to break the bedrock lol.

That said I also understand their frustration as the anime is not what many expected it to be, but hey, I'm an anime only watcher and I when enjoy an episode, I express my excitement as they express their vexations.
Don't forget there is no guarantee that the hunting hero comes from HIS Japan..... All of the Cardinal heroes came from different versions and different dimensions and different times of Japan. Is none of them share the same history. This is 5-head multiverse game time.
Personally, this was the best episode so far this season. It definitely brought back some of the elements from the previous season which made it great. I'm hoping this would continue, and if not, be even better each episode.
You see the first Season was all about the hardship and suffering of our MC, Naofumi, but now that he's gained trust and notability from everyone and he's not suffering like he used to, the anime has gone kinda soft.
@@azekel7687 Yeah, it did lose its sort of footing after our boi, Naofumi, got everything back (which is good, don't get me wrong lol) considering that the revenge plot was one of the major factors that made the show really good. Then again some of the elements such as the mystery of the Waves and all the stuff that is yet to be revealed are still somewhat enough to fuel that interest to continue watching the show.
There are two requirements for unlocking new shields and other weapons. One is to feed them the right material, often remains of monsters, but it could be just about anything. The other is to reach a certain level. An example being the portal shield, which requires sands from the dragon hourglass and being at least level 50. Naofumi's level dropped down to 1. While the shields are still saved, they are locked until he is at a high enough level to use them again.
Good for you. I hope you enjoy. Not for me though, they utterly slayed the original story (light novel and manga) by making a single change which was putting Raphtalia with them whereas she got put with Larc, Therese, and Glass in a different place. A BIG no-no. A bold move, and a huge (imho) mistake.
This was a really good episode. Kizuna is pretty likeable and it seems that her weapon is not as restrictive as Naofumi´s shield can be. She can at least hunt down monsters and attack people (even if she can´t hurt them) unlike Naofumi who is forbidden from attacking unless its the Wrath Shield and that isn´t even allowed to hold any kind of weapon due to how his shield works. Loving that this world has its own game mechanics that seem to be but similar and yet different showing that both world are unique in their own way.
Well it wasn't just a few hours. In the light novel they spend some time grinding, even after they met Kizuna. Rishia did at least. This isn't so much erasing your save file as it is starting a new game. It takes time to build up their levels again. Still it was a short amount of time compared to how long Kizuna has been in here. She didn't know about the waves, but she did know about the labyrinth before coming here. It wasn't originally meant as a prison, not the whole thing, but it was meant to be hard to reach. However some error made it nearly impossible to leave. That said sometimes monsters slip out. The smaller monsters never do, but every once and a while something big gets out. Naofumi figured out that if a monster is too big for the room it is in it will be ejected. So they went and found the smallest room in the labyrinth and spawned that monster plant. PS: The new shield didn't allow Naofumi to enter this world, Ost asked for permission. However he should be able to return to Raphtalia's world no problem, as that is the world his shield is from.
I will say my jaw dropped when Raphtalia popped up because she is not suppose to be here. It was just suppose to be him and Rishia and Raphtalia is suppose to be elsewhere. Which now I'm wondering what they are gonna do about that end of the story and what develops from it. Outside of Raphtalia being there this episode was a great adaptation.

If the Manga is a ways behind the Light Novel, that would make sense. I know that it wasn't in the Manga, but is it really further ahead? @@williamjosephburns1504 the story in the novels is WAY ahead of this. After this Arc Naofumi travels around to other cities that were mentioned back in season 1 like Zeltoble and Shieldfreeden. New characters join the group, and the characters eventually travel to the true homeland of Raphtalia's parents. Another beast similar to the tortoise eventually appears, and the true cause of the waves has been discovered and is currently the main focus of the plot late in the novels.
Talk about some bullshit, imagine getting handed a super-powerful weapon of legend. First of all, only to find out, it's a fucking swiss army knife, and second that it can't hurt people. I mean, yeah it still works on monsters. But, imagine if the other 3 doofuses, Naofumi, Glass, and Lark's weapons worked like that. We'd have no plot. I know I keep trashing on some of these vassal weapons, but it seems like that old DnD cartoon from the 80's where this wizard is giving these kids classes and he just like runs out of classes that don't have religious or spiritual implications and makes one of them literally "acrobat".

Glass and them believe that they have to kill other heroes to save their own world. But what does it mean if heroes exist who can't hurt people. based on the manga, raphtalia shouldn't be with them, along with filo, she's separated from naofumi and joined another party, grind up her level until she became katana vassal hero
Ok this episode actually annoys me a bit. its not even canon right now and idk what they're doing. In the manga raphtalia wasn't EVEN THERE. she spawned in a completely separate area, it was only him and rishia in that place. they moved people around a little bit last season, but they've never been this bad. this further effs up rishia's character development and just straight up ruins half the setup/developments in this arc.
It's easy to forget since it isn't elaborated on what the differences are between all these different versions of the same world. For example, in the Japan that Ren comes from, he lives in the future. And for Itsuki, everyone is an ESPer.
Just to correct the assumptions that Filo reverted to an egg, no she did not, and this is not a spoiler. Raphtalia did not turn back to a kid because her time got rewound but because she lost her levels. As she explained back in S1 and briefly reminding here in this episode again that Demihumans have special characteristics (which makes humans look at them as monsters and discriminate them). One of these is that their bodies grow up and mature rapidly when their level also increase dramatically fast in order to accommodate that growth. And since her level reverted, all her growth vanished and her real age is once again revealed - a 10-year-old girl. Meaning, no time rewinds happened, and this also applies to Filo and that she did not turn back to an egg.
The single change from the original story of having Raphtalia with Naofumi instead of L'arc fucks up some big story points and possibly get rids a such a fun character that should have been introduced later on. Be glad that you haven't read the source material.
Definitely the best episode of the season so far but I feel like they could've done a bit more for something with such a daunting name like "The Infinite Labyrinth." Probably just a pacing issue
Well, I believe it is more so the fact that the whole purpose of it was to introduce the hunting hero, but somehow it didn't feel forced like the whole season so far so I am okay with it

Glass nem are vassel weapon holders. I think the Cardinal heros in this world are different, Glass and them just passed through earlier and met ol girl before she was locked up... They were probably also level 1, I'd assume

I might be too late but I just want to point out the thing with wraith sheild hate.....the thing is he didn't have enough hate for ost.... Thus unable to meet the requirement to use that sheild....she said u cared for me and tortise heart sheild which is the opposite.....
Interesting thing is that even tought his lvl is reset the shields collection is building on top of everything he got since than. So he still have all shield forms but cant use tham because of low lvl.

Been a while since I read this arc, but I think he can use *some* of the his shields. Definitely not all of them

This episode was the best so far, it really gave the s1 vibes, the world building is back and Naofumi has reclaimed his spotlight!
The new girl Kizuna is a true Cardinal(Legendary hero) of another world like Naofumi unlike L'arc or Glass who are Vassal heroes.
Ps- They straight up used minecraft Glitch to break the bedrock lol.

That said I also understand their frustration as the anime is not what many expected it to be, but hey, I'm an anime only watcher and I when enjoy an episode, I express my excitement as they express their vexations.

Don't forget there is no guarantee that the hunting hero comes from HIS Japan..... All of the Cardinal heroes came from different versions and different dimensions and different times of Japan. Is none of them share the same history.

Personally, this was the best episode so far this season. It definitely brought back some of the elements from the previous season which made it great. I'm hoping this would continue, and if not, be even better each episode.
You see the first Season was all about the hardship and suffering of our MC, Naofumi, but now that he's gained trust and notability from everyone and he's not suffering like he used to, the anime has gone kinda soft.
@@azekel7687 Yeah, it did lose its sort of footing after our boi, Naofumi, got everything back (which is good, don't get me wrong lol) considering that the revenge plot was one of the major factors that made the show really good. Then again some of the elements such as the mystery of the Waves and all the stuff that is yet to be revealed are still somewhat enough to fuel that interest to continue watching the show.

There are two requirements for unlocking new shields and other weapons. One is to feed them the right material, often remains of monsters, but it could be just about anything. The other is to reach a certain level. An example being the portal shield, which requires sands from the dragon hourglass and being at least level 50. Naofumi's level dropped down to 1. While the shields are still saved, they are locked until he is at a high enough level to use them again.

Not for me though, they utterly slayed the original story (light novel and manga) by making a single change which was putting Raphtalia with them whereas she got put with Larc, Therese, and Glass in a different place. A BIG no-no. A bold move, and a huge (imho) mistake.

This was a really good episode. Kizuna is pretty likeable and it seems that her weapon is not as restrictive as Naofumi´s shield can be. She can at least hunt down monsters and attack people (even if she can´t hurt them) unlike Naofumi who is forbidden from attacking unless its the Wrath Shield and that isn´t even allowed to hold any kind of weapon due to how his shield works. Loving that this world has its own game mechanics that seem to be but similar and yet different showing that both world are unique in their own way.
He isn't forbidden from attacking without the wrath shield, it's just the one that does the most damage

Well it wasn't just a few hours. In the light novel they spend some time grinding, even after they met Kizuna. Rishia did at least. This isn't so much erasing your save file as it is starting a new game. It takes time to build up their levels again.
Still it was a short amount of time compared to how long Kizuna has been in here. She didn't know about the waves, but she did know about the labyrinth before coming here. It wasn't originally meant as a prison, not the whole thing, but it was meant to be hard to reach. However some error made it nearly impossible to leave. That said sometimes monsters slip out. The smaller monsters never do, but every once and a while something big gets out. Naofumi figured out that if a monster is too big for the room it is in it will be ejected. So they went and found the smallest room in the labyrinth and spawned that monster plant.
PS: The new shield didn't allow Naofumi to enter this world, Ost asked for permission. However he should be able to return to Raphtalia's world no problem, as that is the world his shield is from.

I will say my jaw dropped when Raphtalia popped up because she is not suppose to be here. It was just suppose to be him and Rishia and Raphtalia is suppose to be elsewhere. Which now I'm wondering what they are gonna do about that end of the story and what develops from it. Outside of Raphtalia being there this episode was a great adaptation.
Yessir. They shot the original story in the face. But yes, the rest was pretty rushed, but fine.

If the Manga is a ways behind the Light Novel, that would make sense. I know that it wasn't in the Manga, but is it really further ahead? Thanks lots.
note: after rereading some parts, I do wish they adapted it the way it was there, but that wish is a lost one, seeing as skipping/adding is part of the sacrifice.
@@williamjosephburns1504 the story in the novels is WAY ahead of this. After this Arc Naofumi travels around to other cities that were mentioned back in season 1 like Zeltoble and Shieldfreeden. New characters join the group, and the characters eventually travel to the true homeland of Raphtalia's parents. Another beast similar to the tortoise eventually appears, and the true cause of the waves has been discovered and is currently the main focus of the plot late in the novels.
Talk about some bullshit, imagine getting handed a super-powerful weapon of legend. First of all, only to find out, it's a fucking swiss army knife, and second that it can't hurt people. I mean, yeah it still works on monsters. But, imagine if the other 3 doofuses, Naofumi, Glass, and Lark's weapons worked like that. We'd have no plot. I know I keep trashing on some of these vassal weapons, but it seems like that old DnD cartoon from the 80's where this wizard is giving these kids classes and he just like runs out of classes that don't have religious or spiritual implications and makes one of them literally "acrobat".
What do you mean no plot? There is a reason her weapon doesn't hurt people.

Glass and them believe that they have to kill other heroes to save their own world. But what does it mean if heroes exist who can't hurt people. After all if that is what they are suppose to do then wouldnt the weapons work to help them achieve that goal?

based on the manga, raphtalia shouldn't be with them, along with filo, she's separated from naofumi and joined another party, grind up her level until she became katana vassal hero

she spawned in a completely separate area, it was only him and rishia in that place.
they moved people around a little bit last season, but they've never been this bad.
this further effs up rishia's character development and just straight up ruins half the setup/developments in this arc.

It's easy to forget since it isn't elaborated on what the differences are between all these different versions of the same world. For example, in the Japan that Ren comes from, he lives in the future. And for Itsuki, everyone is an ESPer.

Just to correct the assumptions that Filo reverted to an egg, no she did not, and this is not a spoiler. Raphtalia did not turn back to a kid because her time got rewound but because she lost her levels. As she explained back in S1 and briefly reminding here in this episode again that Demihumans have special characteristics (which makes humans look at them as monsters and discriminate them). One of these is that their bodies grow up and mature rapidly when their level also increase dramatically fast in order to accommodate that growth. And since her level reverted, all her growth vanished and her real age is once again revealed - a 10-year-old girl. Meaning, no time rewinds happened, and this also applies to Filo and that she did not turn back to an egg.
When y'all watch The Boys, if Lupa doesn't say the title like Kratos, we riot.

The single change from the original story of having Raphtalia with Naofumi instead of L'arc fucks up some big story points and possibly get rids a such a fun character that should have been introduced later on. Be glad that you haven't read the source material.

Definitely the best episode of the season so far but I feel like they could've done a bit more for something with such a daunting name like "The Infinite Labyrinth." Probably just a pacing issue
Well, I believe it is more so the fact that the whole purpose of it was to introduce the hunting hero, but somehow it didn't feel forced like the whole season so far so I am okay with it

Aight, Im pretty sure that Raphtalia wasn't there for this entire labyrinth thing. Really not sure why they put her in. As usual things felt really rushed but this was one of the better episodes so far. Really enjoyed this arc, so looking forward to the incoming episodes.

8:20 Naofumi just used the old Minecraft exploit to get on top of the nether by planting a tree to get through bedrock.
I might be too late but I just want to point out the thing with wraith sheild hate.....the thing is he didn't have enough hate for ost.... Thus unable to meet the requirement to use that sheild....she said u cared for me and tortise heart sheild which is the opposite.....
well,.. At least them leveling in this world will be really helpful latter on. Specially when the waves come.

Interesting thing is that even tought his lvl is reset the shields collection is building on top of everything he got since than.
So he still have all shield forms but cant use tham because of low lvl.
