The Amel 50 is a benchmark boat in its class. I just Love those helm wrap around windows! Thank you for sharing, there are only few vids of this model sailing on the web....I guess folks are simply too busy enjoying them! Fair winds n following seas.
Absolutely! It takes a lot of practice and skill to dock stern-to on a big 50 footer in a tight marina with a solid cross-wind! We learned a lot from these guys!
An awesome video! Thank you for sharing! Yes, Arnis and Jane are wonderful sailors and marvelous hosts. We can't wait for our rescheduled sail in the future!
Great job as usual, guys! Love the yacht. Was fortunate to sail an Amel 53 my cousin owned. Great boats for a couple or those less physically inclined (or older like me :-)
You are both so adorable and witty. What a boat! Thanks for sharing. And don't bother about the alcohol question. It's exactly the same here. One time my wife was dancing and drinking raki with the captain in Greece. While all the other tourists were hanging overboard spitting their guts.
When leaving the marina the lady requested assistance over the radio. I must say it's the first time I've heard of such a request, apart from situations with an engine failure or sth similar. Granted, my sailing experience is still very small so I'd like to ask if such a request is a common thing? Or rather a courtesy reserved only for select marinas and used sparingly?
Thanks for watching! Great question! Most marinas across the Med will offer mooring assistance when coming in to dock, and in most circumstances will offer the same courtesy for getting off the dock if needs be (though a less common request). This episode was filmed with a solid 17 knots pushing the port side of the bow when departing, and with pretty limited space to manoeuvre the assistance was greatly appreciated.
Canadjun eh? The Amel 50 is a handsome craft and would only be affordable with a lottery win. I think that a used Outremer may be good option. A catamaran may enable the "Worst Pirate Ever" to be able to imbibe a little rum at sea.
Hi Peter, thanks for watching! They're fantastic! The headsets are made by Sena. After giving them a try on Traveller IV we ordered a pair too. They make anchoring and mooring soooo much less stressful! We'll show how we use them in an upcoming episode soon.
It is likely a requirement of the marina driven by insurer to mitigate risk of collision, in the event of system failures or encountering unexpected wind or current conditions. Might also justify some of the marina charges/fees😉

Hi M Z, totally agree. Those wrap around windows make sailing in any condition so much more comfortable!
Wow, she backed the boat in. Like a BOSS. Props to her.

Having bow AND stern thruster helps
@@teunisbaas8888 only a bow thruster. No stern thruster on our Amel 50!
shiba inu for the win!
Far and away my favorite boat.
Man, to be able to sail the Amel 50! Lucky you 🤙🏼
What a beautiful boat and nice couple!
Absolutely!
Utterly dreamboat, enjoy it!!

A proper blue water cruiser, one day. Fingers crossed.
My fave too, along with the PC55. One day!
I love the way the boat is set up as far as where everything is up top. All the technology is scary though! 🤣

Thanks Bob! We loved the Amel too!
Nice video. Love the AMEL 50. This is also my dream boat. Just subscribed to your channel. Bye from Fuerteventura 🌞
Thanks for tuning in Vincent! The Amel 50 sure is an easy boat to love!
great video thanks for posting
Thanks for watching Stephen!
Amel's are wonderful big boats.
2 curious questions. Where did this take place? So with one though hole there is intake for water maker etc. Where does the grey tank empty to?
Also speed through water and depth gauge transducer

Thank you Henri!!! We're so happy that you enjoyed the episode! Glad to hear we're not the only ones who have to keep aperitivo as a land-only sport!
Thank you. Great video. I felt like I was aboard with you.
So happy that you enjoyed the video Captain Berger! ⛵
The Amel si à crazy boat. Maybe one day... 😉😊
🤞
The only change I would make is to swap out the in mast furling with in boom furling.
Greetings from the Philippines
Hi there! 👋😊

The marina actually requests us to let them know when we depart the dock. Not required, but we like to comply😁
Sailing these days are not the same as when we started sailing...we would leave the dock in any wind condition.
Did you get a chance to steer the Amal 50 while sailing. Nice vid👍
Sure did! She handles like a dream!
The only thing I do not like about the new Amel 50 - 60 range is the move away from the skeg hung rudder to the twin rudders.
Awesome vid
Keep up the nice content.
You guys do very well
Thanks so much Andrew and Elizabeth!
It is nice to have money 😊
maravilhoso Amel 50 é sonho de consumo Thank you for movie

Why did they need departure assist? Is it because the bow thrusters don't work, abundance of caution, or marina policy?
Marina policy :)
that's how sailing should be like
I believe in the video it says it is sloop rigged but it looks like it's solent rigged. Just curious.
Superbes images mais boire ou naviguer, il faut choisir ! Lol.
En effet ! Pour la prochaine sortie en mer, pas de doute, ce sera 'naviguer'! 😅
The helms person did not imbibe!! Lol!
What was the headset called that your host used at mooring?
Hi Peter, thanks for watching! They're fantastic! The headsets are made by Sena. After giving them a try on Traveller IV we ordered a pair too. They make anchoring and mooring soooo much less stressful! We'll show how we use them in an upcoming episode soon.
As a boat noob can someone explain why they need assistance off the dock with 4 people on board and bow thruster?
It is likely a requirement of the marina driven by insurer to mitigate risk of collision, in the event of system failures or encountering unexpected wind or current conditions. Might also justify some of the marina charges/fees😉
Now get one of your own!
Seems the more expensive beautiful yacht the more beautiful the woman
Tried to figure out what shirt Arni is wearing- anyone spot the brand?
Is this safe to cross oceans?
No life jackets!??
Fyi "notorious" means famous for something bad... I don't think that's what you meant.
Now Amel make defective boats.
How so
15:40 future faking. dump her Luke, and get a Young Eastern Europe 👧 lady.
Everything else is useless except sailing!
I feel sorry for the dude, get an AMEL 50 or she's gone to a richer guy. The usual story I guess.
