Aomori, Japan gets the most amount of snowfall per year out of anywhere in the world! It feels pretty crazy living in the snowest place on earth. This year has been especially snowy with 80 inches in less than a month! Let's just say there's a lot of shoveling involved.
We love visiting the Komaki Onsen Shibusawa Park on the weekends and eating at our favorite Yakiniku restaurant. We hope you enjoyed a little look into our life in Misawa, Japan!

That's so exciting! Hope you end up loving Japan as much as we do!
i get there jan 2026 i cant wait
Aloha, I was stationed at Misawa in the early 80's. I did a 3.5 year enlisted tour and an extra year as a contractor. I am a Maui native, but would move back to Misawa at the drop of a hat. Loved the people, the culture, the food, and the SNOW. I know, funny coming from an island boy, right? Well, I did manage to introduce snowboarding to northern Japan. I was the first one way back in 1982. Consider yourselves blessed to live this experience.
Japan is pretty amazing! We will definitely miss it!
1982-1986 Used to sumo on base team. Traveled a lot doing so. Shoveled a lot of snow. Used to cook O yako-dan for lunch. I could walk home for lunch; that was a blessing. Stayed in Misawa as long as possible.
Yes! The commute to work is the best!
I was also stationed in Misawa in the 80's...total of 7 years. Loved it and would move back any time.
Awesome! We love it too. :)
Try the drive up to lake Towada, the snow monkeys will get into the hot springs with you. Drove up with 20 foot snow banks on each side of the road. The volcanic action keeps the air warmer up on top so you drive from white out to green. When I was stationed at Misawa, there was a place called Nina's on the alley. Best boneless fried chicken I ever tasted. Was there in 75. Nice vid, enjoyed the experience.
I had no idea about the snow monkeys! Thanks for the tips!
Wow Misawa is so beautiful with all the snow! I didn't know Aomori gets the most amount of snow in the world, that's crazy! We also love yakiniku - it's so good!
Yes! it's so snowy here!
I was stationed there 1983-1985. I think '84 was their snowiest Winter ever. It was incredible.
The snow is INSANE!
What branch and organization? I worked the gig and main base comms from 1981-1984. Then the gym from 1984-85.
@@kumuhoe Air Force. 6920th on the hill. Lived in dorm 672 near the base gym and played a lot of racquetball.
I was stationed there from 60 to 62 remember the snow well
I live in Misawa.
I love American very much.
I would like to visit. I lived there 1881-1985.
I was there. It snowed more than any other place. Enjoy.
2015-2018 being maintenance definitely wasn’t fun there but the location made up for it. I have to get back over there 😭
Are the hangars close enough to the dorms for an airman to walk to work, even in snow? Or does one really need to have a car to get to work?
I wouldn’t attempt, it’s probably a good hour walk
There is a chance I could moving here and just wanna say it’s beautiful
I was stationed here in 1986 to 1990 i loved more then any other assignment. Lots of snow Skied all Over northern Japan. If you are heading here it will be what you make of it!!! My two olest kids were born there absolutely loved it!!!
It's a pretty amazing place!
Wow, my family was station there at that time as well 432 SPS
Love your videos! We’re at Yokota. I’d love to road trip from here to Aomori but I think that may be safer and more accessible in spring or fall:)
We'd love to be stationed at Yokota! The fall is gorgeous here though!
My job was snow removal there I really miss that job 😁 and the snowboarding even more
The snowboarding is awesome!
@@mattanddags not sure if you guys ski or snowboard but there's no platform on UA-cam yet after just doing a search
@@aaronalston8642 Yes, we love to snowboard!
I love your videos!! Is there a lot of things to do on base? Does the snow stay on the ground for a long time? Do you recommend getting a car or can you ride with other people?
Thank you! The base is very small but there's usually a lot going on. We have a bowling alley, gym, beach, arts & craft center, woodshop, etc. The snow usually melts pretty fast but we get so much of it that it just piles on top of each other for months. I DEFINITELY recommend getting at least one car. The cars are very cheap and you can usually just get them from people who are PCSing. We paid $3,500 for each of our cars and we've had no problems with either of them yet.
Besides mount baker

That's awesome! We haven't been there yet but we'll have to check it out! :)
Just subbed I was in misawa in 1980-1982 Air Force on the Hill
That's awesome!
I'm surprised no one has said NO RECORDING ON BASE !! used to get it all the time.
Haha, the base really only cares if you're filming the entire base or the flight line.
Or the big ring
What do you all do for the airforce
Matt works in maintenance. :)
@@mattanddags my son just got there. How is the living arrangements for single people. He is security forces.
@@MOMGATES09 That's awesome! I hope he has a great time in Japan!
@@MOMGATES09 I forgot to answer your question! The living situation is different for almost everyone. If he is a single E4 or above he will be living off base. If he is married he will be living on base. If he is E1-E4 he will be living in the dorms on base.
Is Misawa still the best place to get a cheese gyoza?
Do you mean cheese rolls?? haha
@@mattanddags one and the same
@@jackdunne6152 haha then yes! They're amazing.
