It really feels like it should be the Inquisitor who should be the player character in this story. they have far more connection to whats going on and they could easily explain being depowered due to losing their arm and needing to recover. Sure some people might be confused if they didn't play the last game but I feel like that's worth the time to catch people up if it means having a far better MC. Rook just feels completely slapped onto this whole thing. No charisma or anything going on.

Dragon age used to be a dark RPG. The new game doesn't see much conflic. It just looks... "Safe" Well I guess this game won't make your adrenaline rush.
9:35 not even 10 minutes in and we have the first cloned npcs bro 10:54 either the subtitles are wrongly set or they gave each char the other's lines to record. I think it's the latter.

So much more potential. I will never understand why they went for a new character. Rook makes little sense in the big scheme of things. He/she is an absolute nobody. The fans's expectations were super high...waiting 10years and from origins a 15year storyline created by the player...no choices were imported...that's why fans are angry...and the graphical style and they/them shit pisses people off,only to name a few.But enjoy they/them licking fish/demon balls.

Yeah, I agree making it a sequel doesn't help the game. It could have been its own thing instead, and the "change of artstyle" wouldn't be that criticized in the negative reviews in consequence. However, having played the previous games of the series, I think it's also good to remember only the first one was seen as really great. The main threat was also solved in it, and the second and third games did exactly the same than this one : using the same universe to tell their own stories that have really nothing to do with a "Dragon Age" (since the big deal with dragons was done for good in the 1st).

Also I skipped a few parts in those 7+hrs but it does feel like every time the party interacts with each other it's about self-doubts and feeling guilty for something. Really goes to show how important the story is to the overall experience. If you strip away fancy graphics and splashy gameplay you are left with only the story. And if you think that doesn't matter, you've never read a book. In a video game some aspects can be smoothed out by it being splashy but in the end if the story is bad the game as a whole fails

I haven't played or watched. What is everyone's issue with Veilguard? It seems to be the cycle. I personally loved Origins, hated Dragon Age 2 and what they did to the darkspawn and loved Inquisition, mostly.

The dialogue transition at 3:08:00 is so staged and the whole scene is so artificial it is just painful - I mean, maybe I am missing something but weren't those characters introduced just a minute ago? Who thinks that introducing a player to a familiar drama on a literal second line of a character is good writing? I understand that "no time to think, we are saving the world" story structure is not conducive of deep plot lines in general, but this just looks like a movie cut to 1/3 after managerial intervention. I can't believe that people doing ground work on the game would themselves vouch to turn an RPG into a marvel-themed arcade, but It is also weird to think that corporate heads still haven't realized that marvel-like dumbification, though seemingly risk mediating with its emphasis on the common denominator today can backfire quite a bit.
In response to your criticism on "Marvelization" of Dragon Age. Comic book narratives derivative & formulaic. To me the game has an "old school RPG" vibe. What youre describing personally for me is Dragon Age.

Yes, in BG/BG3 you do have a cast of (mostly) unlikely soon-to-be-heroes / villains, that technically will be on their path of saving the world, but 1) nor they, nor the player know that for the first ~1/2 of the game (game starts small), 2) they have personal motives outside the main quest that are diverse and interact naturally, 3) other characters and obstacles are less artificially placed in the narrative and the open-ish world lives by itself. (Though I am not sure that what DAV has is trying to be an open world at any moment) In general, as with many AAA+ mass media products (games, movies, tv-series, even some books) the story flow in DAV seems to lack *authenticity* - it is a nominal / abstract narrative of a fairytale opting for arcade game mechanics such as: looking for missing stone keys to open doors again and again, fighting "Blight Champions" that lie in the nearby bushes for no reason, getting repetitive mobs spawned at you at the uniformly spaced time points, and having NPCs whose only role in the game is to open another door for you / hint that you need to find another artificially placed key. This is an arcade, perhaps built on top of sophisticated world building, but the depth of the world is seen through an eye of a child listening to a bed time story. I guess, if DAV was not positioned as an RPG this lack of authenticity would be less aggravating, but even so the character interactions are so superficial that they break the immersion that any game other than full arcade, imo, should have. P.S. I don't hate DAV, combat seems to be fun and scenery is nice, maybe even high-level story is ok, but I know that for me playing it would be hard, same as with watching through a Marvel Movie (a literal torture lol), simply too much hand-handling, silliness and immersion breaking points.

Pretty cool that we get to assemble the avengers after Varian becomes disabled after trying to stop Solas from saving the world.

For those saying the dislike ratio doesnt affect the video, it literally does. It causes the youtube algorithm to show YOU less of it and causes the video to be less likely to be recommended to others. You are literally causeing content creators videos to be shadowbanned just because your a childish troll that has nothing better to do with their lives. No one is forcing you to look up and review bomb peoples video, move on with your lives.

It's sad how filled with hate some people are nowadays. I bought this game and have been enjoying it thoroughly. I was put off by the low metacritic score at first until I learned why people were review bombing it. So incredibly idiotic

It seems to be the cycle. I personally loved Origins, hated Dragon Age 2 and what they did to the darkspawn and loved Inquisition, mostly.

The dialogue transition at 3:08:00 is so staged and the whole scene is so artificial it is just painful - I mean, maybe I am missing something but weren't those characters introduced just a minute ago? Who thinks that introducing a player to a familiar drama on a literal second line of a character is good writing?
I understand that "no time to think, we are saving the world" story structure is not conducive of deep plot lines in general, but this just looks like a movie cut to 1/3 after managerial intervention. I can't believe that people doing ground work on the game would themselves vouch to turn an RPG into a marvel-themed arcade, but It is also weird to think that corporate heads still haven't realized that marvel-like dumbification, though seemingly risk mediating with its emphasis on the common denominator today can backfire quite a bit.
In response to your criticism on "Marvelization" of Dragon Age. Comic book narratives derivative & formulaic. To me the game has an "old school RPG" vibe. What youre describing personally for me is Dragon Age.

@@michaelblundell9145 I haven't played Dragon Age, so perhaps you are right here, but I strongly disagree wrt BG series. Yes, in BG/BG3 you do have a cast of (mostly) unlikely soon-to-be-heroes / villains, that technically will be on their path of saving the world, but 1) nor they, nor the player know that for the first ~1/2 of the game (game starts small), 2) they have personal motives outside the main quest that are diverse and interact naturally, 3) other characters and obstacles are less artificially placed in the narrative and the open-ish world lives by itself. (Though I am not sure that what DAV has is trying to be an open world at any moment)
In general, as with many AAA+ mass media products (games, movies, tv-series, even some books) the story flow in DAV seems to lack *authenticity* - it is a nominal / abstract narrative of a fairytale opting for arcade game mechanics such as: looking for missing stone keys to open doors again and again, fighting "Blight Champions" that lie in the nearby bushes for no reason, getting repetitive mobs spawned at you at the uniformly spaced time points, and having NPCs whose only role in the game is to open another door for you / hint that you need to find another artificially placed key. This is an arcade, perhaps built on top of sophisticated world building, but the depth of the world is seen through an eye of a child listening to a bed time story.
I guess, if DAV was not positioned as an RPG this lack of authenticity would be less aggravating, but even so the character interactions are so superficial that they break the immersion that any game other than full arcade, imo, should have.
P.S. I don't hate DAV, combat seems to be fun and scenery is nice, maybe even high-level story is ok, but I know that for me playing it would be hard, same as with watching through a Marvel Movie (a literal torture lol), simply too much hand-handling, silliness and immersion breaking points.

I’m two hours into the video and Solas is like…still in the Fade? I thought he would have more of an impact in the story. 😭 I wanted a continuation from DAI where we try and stop him from destroying the world. Now like…he’s just on the back burner until the story sees that he is important again and brings him back?
played it as well, no you'll see him every so often in the mirror and stuff but aside from that he is not a part of the story save for the first 20 minutes

Yeah, it's decent. Not GOTY for sure, but pleasant enough in itself. The hate mainly comes from far right spheres screaming about "woke", and they pretty much have nothing to do with actual gamers.
