@@surveyordave14yo boy here, I loved the concert in Atlanta, probably the best night of my life! Glad my dad introduced me to ELO. They blasted Livin’ Thing out of this WORLD!!
Jeff Lynne is 76 years old! He does not need to jump around on the stage and break guitars, it is not his thing! He is an icon, I saw him in Philadelphia and he is amazing and has stood the test of time. He has a huge stage presence and his music speaks for itself! The people with him are playing and singing actual music, not fake music at all and it is impressive after all these years that his concerts are still sold out!! ELO will always be one of my all time favorite bands and you are missing out if you don't go see them one more time!!!
I agree ..and I missed them in the United States ..I'm going to London in July ...for the final show which was just announced ..I got tickets last Wednesday.... I think there might be some left you can probably still get a ticket now..
Your review and comments about Jeff Lynne were disappointing at best. Jeff is a musical genius. A very reserved and humble man. But I guess you didn’t know that. The Rock and Roll podcast doesn’t hold much credibility in my book given your lack of knowledge about an icon.
Alex this is for your info: Jeff Lynne (ELO-Traveling Wilburys-The Move-The Idle Race) has received almost all the awards imaginable: 2009: Golden Note Award from the ASCAP 2013: Songwriters Hall of Fame nominee for 2014 induction 2014: Star on the Birmingham Walk of Stars 2014: Honorary doctorate degree from Birmingham City University 2015: Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame 2015: Songwriters Hall of Fame nominee for 2016 induction 2016: In November 2016, Jeff Lynne's ELO won Band of the Year at the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards 2016: Songwriters Hall of Fame nominee for 2017 induction 2017: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee as a member of Electric Light Orchestra 2018: Songwriters Hall of Fame nominee for 2019 induction 2019: ASCAP Founders Award from the ASCAP 2020 Appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) 2023: Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ******Add 3 Ivor Novello Awards to the list and Grammys plus all the amazing awards he has had as one of the best producers ever in this world.
Jeff Lynne had nothing to do with ELO 2 or The Orchestra. Those were Bev Bevan led bands with some other former ELO members coming and going. There were lawsuits which is why the name was changed from ELO 2 to The Orchestra.
@@timothyhadley5699 Can you please post the litigation paperwork? You sound very confident in your answer and as an attorney I'd like to see where you are getting your information from. The Orchestra had to be renamed due to the agreement, not due to a lawsuit.
I saw the Boston show on the 23rd. It was one of the best sounding concerts I've attended. Jeff's songs are forever engrained in my head. He played them just as I remember them and I love that!
Dude, Jeff Lynne is 76. SEVENTY-SIX! This tour must be a tremendous grind for him, and to me, compared to previous years performances, he looks somewhat frail. But no matter, I'm seeing the show in Denver next week, and I can't wait!
I know! 76 is crazy. That's why Jagger and Springsteen absolutely blow me away that they can still do it at such a high level of energy and enthusiasm! But the show is great, and the music still sounds amazing. I hope you have a great time - please come back and let me know what you thought!! Thanks so much for listening.
Right everybody ages differently, think he was never a showman, just a producer , musician type, we traveled from South FL just to see show ( Ex NYawkers)
I haven’t seen the show but I have mobility issues and have been watching the shows from different cities and reviews. I know so far the reviews have been great and I know a few friends who went to to see him this past Friday and Saturday here in Chicago and they loved it! One last thing I happened to 💜 Xanadu and the Soundtrack and still play it every chance I get……so there you go! 🥰
Excellent comment from Classic Rock Fan! Alex Gadd you never heard Music Legends talk about the genius Jeff Lynne. Listen to Paul, Ringo, George, John, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh, Brian Wilson, Bryan Adams. Roy Orbison and so many other legends. Also Alex read the comments right here. Your review and history of the band and Jeff Lynne lacks research and accuracy. The brilliant 2012 BBC Documentary Mr. Blue Sky: The Story Of Jeff Lynne will tell you so much more about who Jeff Lynne really is as a musician and producer...You will hear among others the former Beatles.
I’ve seen over 200 big name concerts and this ELO concert was one of the tops, I don’t think you showed enough enthusiasm about the concert. It was great, go get a ticket.
How do you know so little about one of the biggest bands in rock history? And Jeff Lynne is a true superstar, as a composer, performer and engineer. He was behind the board on some of the greatest albums made, a friend of the Beatles and a member of the greatest supergroup of all time, the Travelling Wilburys. You seem a bit clueless for someone hosting this subject matter. No surprise you got almost no thumbs up; I couldn't even get through all 17 minutes of this.
Completely agree ..and it was very dry his commentary ...and not well researched... as I've seen people say that he is the "Swiss Army knife"of the music industry.. just saying
Just turned 60 and can't wait to walk down memory lane here in PHX. As with the Eagles, etc. playing tight and to the original recording is important for life long fans, if they have the range to do it. Jeff is brilliant, a soft spoken production and sound expert from the early 70's. My Pioneer turntable would crackle as a piece of dust often came between the stylus and the spinning vinyl ELO produced. My aging ears will appreciate yesterdays passionate lyrics with today's live technology. Good thing we can afford the price of admission.
First you sound very boring, 2nd you don't know much about music if you don't know Jeff Lynne as a music genius and the best overall musician ever as stated by Tom Petty and George Harrison. Just do some more research on UA-cam and google before you put a video like this...This way people will think you are smarter. Lynne is in the top 3 producers ever. Jeff Lynne is ELO... The sole songwriter, music composer and producer. Lynne produced all the Beatles individually except John but he produced 2 John Lennon songs in 1995 Free As A Bird and Real Love (The Beatles Anthology Album). ELO has sold over 50 million Records. Lynne revived George Harrison and Roy Orbison's career. If you would have seen Jeff Lynne touring in the 1970's you would have really amazed by their stage presence.
Hi! Thanks for listening. First, I'm sorry you think I'm boring. I'd love to watch your videos so I can see what you think is exciting. Second, I encourage you to respond and tell me where I said that Jeff Lynne is not talented. Third, please provide evidence of Tom Petty saying Jeff Lynne is the best overall musician "ever." He's said he's a pop music genius, but that's different. Fourth, please respond telling me where I said Jeff Lynne was a bad producer. LOL. Fifth, thank you for validating what I observed in my review - that ELO really does have passionate fans. Something I was surprised by given how bland I find their music. Finally, I'm sorry I triggered you so much with my overall positive review of the show I saw. think you could bring down your vitriol a bit and recognize that people have different opinions and as long as they share them respectfully, which I 100% did, others can share their opposing opinions with equal respect. It would make you sound smarter. Thanks again!
@@TheRock-N-RollShowPodcast I agree with you that this guy’s criticism of you was completely unwarranted. Not sure what he is expecting you to do. I think you did a good job of presenting an honest review of the concert.
@TheRock-N-RollShowPodcast go watch a Tom Petty interview - Jeff revitalized his career & Tom talks about it - they were close - they were in the traveling Wilbury’s together for Pete sake. I just fell in love with the ELO band last year & I’ve read a lot about them since then. You feel Jeff’s heart when he’s up on stage. He doesn’t have to say a lot, when he says something he means it. It’s not just garbage I’ve seen from other bands. It’s something different…it’s real

@@TheRock-N-RollShowPodcast I’ll give you something because evidently you don’t know much about the band or Jeff - never has Jeff introduced the Band except if he’s forced to on a show like American bandstand but normally in concerts his drummer Bev way back did all the introductions and talked to the audience, except for a few things he says he’s never been real talkative. There are many many videos on line. I just fell in love with the band last year so if I can look at these videos & info about Jeff, you can too. We love him because he is different & he’s real with his audience. He’s a genius! Read why he wears the glasses.

Legally Jeff Lynne is ELO but not spiritually. He may be the figurehead and creative force but a lot of the commercial success was due to the other members from their heyday, back from when ELO was a real band, comprised of individuals with distinct personalities. It's those other members that provided the stage presence you remember. Without them, I'm convinced that ELO wouldn't have achieved the success that it did. Back then, touring was a prerequisite to promote the band and record sales. It was the other members, not Jeff, that made ELO concerts a memorable experience. It's a real shame that Jeff couldn't over his personal issues, to reunite the surviving members for the final tour.
My brother introduced me to ELO by playing a lot of it on his 8-track player when he would drive me to school. I have always loved their sound. I've never seen them live. It looks like a great show.
Attended the show at MSG, was fantastic, music ,band ,songs ,light show, just great. Edit Jeff Lynne is 76 years old now, seen show several years ago and back then he was talkative between songs and set was longer too
Frank - thank you for your comment! I think that is a factor although Springsteen and the Stones are still rolling through almost three hour shows where they engage the audience at the same age, or older...still, I think we need to go out and see and celebrate these artists while they're still on stage and be happy with whatever we get, as long as it's a basic level of quality. I saw Genesis on their final tour and Phil Collins could not sing, and I was disappointed. This show was totally worth it. Thank you for listening!
Saw him in Boston. Jeff was a bit slowed down and seemed to need some help getting around so unclear if there are some medical issues. Still, I found it totally magical and awesome.
So I’ve never been to an ELO concert but always wanted to. I saw them two weeks ago in my HT of Cleveland. They were fabulous. I continue to watch his concerts here as the tour goes on. The man must be tired!! For this particular concert , I’m glad there was no chitchat. I want straight up ELO songs. Also being that it’s the last tour for him, loved all of that fluffy colorful ELO stuff lol. Going out with an ELO bang. Just like their songs. Seems apropos He is a legend in his own right. And a shoutout to his backup singers . They were as entertaining as he was. And so was Cleveland . I wish I could go again
There were at least 3 generations of die hard fans at the Indy concert, not just "old people". Not sure how old you are, although you look close to my age of 63, maybe a bit younger, so I'm quite surprised you didn't know much about Jeff Lynne's or ELO's history. Others have already corrected your statements about ELO part II and Orchestra. I appreciate the clips you added to your review, as I was in the nosebleed section at Indy. Still had a good time, and no way was I going to miss seeing the legendary genius Jeff Lynne on his farewell tour.
Jeff is a very shy guy, never had much stage presence, just concentrated on delivering the music as best he could. 🤷 For a 76 year old, he sounds pretty good. Most of the audience didn't seem to find it bland.
I can only speculate that Jeff Lynne's limited movement stems from both physical and mental frailty. Even so, I believe he gave his all, and with the support of the band and impressive visuals, he still managed to deliver a concert that any ELO fan would find satisfying. He's clearly not the same performer he was just five years ago when I last saw him. This tour is billed as his final farewell, and I truly believe it. If you're a fan, don't miss the chance to see him-it may very well be your last opportunity.
I don't know what you all are complaining about. This guy clearly says that he enjoyed the show and gave a very fair account of what he saw. You all come across like a bunch of defensive nitpickers. The guy liked your guy's show! Say "thank you" and give the guy a like. Geez.
ELO has die hard fans all over the world (no pun intended) I’m one of them even at 20 years old just from hearing them on the radio and have listened to them for about 6 years.
We saw them in DC late last month. This was perhaps the best concert I have attended in 20 years. I am so glad I got tickets. It's a bit bittersweet to know I won't be able to see them again. The band Rooney opened for them in DC. Rooney was good but I wish we had had two or three fewer songs from Rooney and two or three more from ELO but I was completely satisfied. I've been listening to ELO constantly since the concert. I have never seen Xanadu but the soundtrack is great. Jeff doesn't move around much because he is 76 years old. He isn't the showman like Jagger but his stage presence is significant. He does appear to be quite humble for someone who has had such a stunning and unique career. And I appreciate that Jeff just played music. That's what I came to see and hear.
Thank you for sharing your review of this concert with us. I went to the show in Boston and it was just plain incredible. I’ve been a fan of the band for about 50 years. Jeff Lynne’s voice was still pretty good and the band was outstanding. I’ve seen a lot of concerts in my time, but I would put this one right near the top.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts - I'm so glad you enjoyed it that much. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, given that I'm not a huge fan. What are some of the other top concerts you've experienced? I'd love to hear more! Thank you for listening!
We saw Jeff Lynne ELO in Boston this pas Monday. The first time they have played Boston since 1981. I must say at 76 yrs young Jeff sounded great ! Thanks for coming back to Boston Jeff. We Love ELO 🎸
Jeff Lynne has never been a showman on stage he doesn’t need to be . Jeff is a humble quiet guy he never ran around the stage even when he was in his 20s Jeff just concentrated on making sure the sound is right . Jeff Lynne in my opinion is the greatest songwriter in history the albums are incredible it’s not the greatest hits stuff that are the greatest songs it is purely the albums from start to finish he’s a genius ❤
My wife and I saw them in St. Louis a few weeks ago. We were 3rd on the floor just to the right of the stage and we thought it was an incredible show! The set was great and the band was awesome! We’ve been ELO fans for many years, but had never seen a live show. Jeff Lynne is one of the top musicians of all down, so seeing him was a great thrill. He did not interact with the audience much, but from what I’ve seen he never did do much of that. He has stated that live touring really never was his thing, he preferred being in the studio. His voice definitely wasn’t as sharp as it was and he did seem to have some mobility issues, be we were happy to see a living legend still singing the incredible music that he personally created!
Hi - thanks for sharing your thoughts! Yes, I agree with basically everything you said. I did mention that I didn't think the stage was where he was most comfortable - as a pre-eminent producer and composer, the studio always seemed like his "natural habitat." And most importantly, I agree that it's worth it seeing our favorite bands while we still can, which is why our motto is "Life is short, so get those concert tickets!" Thanks for listening!!
There are LOTS of passionate ELO fans. Most underrated band of all time. Become an ELO fan! You will not regret it! Jeff is 76 and I think he did this tour for the fans... not for the touring money, since he is not a big fan of touring. And he does know his band members, most of them have been on the previous few tours with him.
Jeff changed up the order a little from his previous shows, but he still got in most of his all-time great songs. You are right--ELO has a large and dedicated fan base, most of us over 70. It is sad that this is their last tour, but Jeff is 76, so he's earned his retirement.
Great review/observation from someone who is not a diehard fan. The lack of stage presence I believe, is largely attributed to the complexity of the music and focusing on putting on the best sound show possible. Re-creating and capturing the actual recording quality of those songs live on stage is not an easy task by any stretch. To Jeff’s credit, he still retains a great voice with his falsetto. For me personally, the hit songs such as strange magic and telephone line, are very mesmerizing and hypnotic.
Thank you for listening and for sharing your thoughts! I don't know about the stage presence thing - I've seen Yes and other musically complex bands perform at a high technical level and still engage with the audience. And I really was brought into the songs by the overall visual presentation. I appreciate your contribution - thanks again!
I agree with your review, especially the "lackluster stage show" . To me it looked like he wasn't even playing his guitar and needed to sit down at times...
The Xanadu soundtrack was spectacular. They sold millions of copies.. by the way, Jeff Lynne has never seen the movie, but he had tons of respect for Olivia Newton-John❤
I saw ELO in 2018 and believe Jeff was better then with virtually the same band lineup. Oh, he’s never been a big talker in concert. Saw ELO in 1981 and Jeff was a little more talkative, but not much. Great shows, people should definitely see them if they enjoy classic rock music for these acts are fading away with time.
I was at the second Chicago show. We loved it. I have been a huge fan of ELO for 45 years. He does seem like he doesn't like to talk much. I think it would have been nice to pay a tribute to the former members who have passed over the the years. Especially Richard Tandy who passed just this year and was touring with them fairly recently. But from what I understand, there was a little bad blood between him and past members.
Had same view is Sacramento on Oct 23rd, which you missed says the last dates. Awesome show. 4th time seeing them. Don't think they were known as Disco. Crowd in Sacramento was mix of all ages.
I saw him in St. Louis, I will be in Chicago for Saturday’s show with my 10 year old Granddaughter,… I want her to experience this as her first Concert.
We saw the show in Philadelphia...I was so happy to be able to see Jeff Lynne after all these years. My husband enjoyed it as well. I was somewhat surprised at how quiet he was between songs...no interaction with the audience. He left it up to his musical director to introduce the band members. Maybe it's just not his thing but I would have liked to hear more from him. But the music was great!
If you watch clips of the 2014 Hyde Park concert, that are on UA-cam, you can see Jeff Lynn was more talkative between songs, but still not overly talkative. You can see that he obviously did degrade a little over these last 10 yrs. Having said that, I saw them in Philly last Friday, and I too, thought they were great. The 2014 Hyde Park show was aired on a concert TV channel on cable back then, and I remembered how great they sounded in that video. That convinced me to get tickets for this last tour, and again, I thought they were great.
Exactly. That was my reference going into the show, which is why I found it necessary to call it out. It didn't affect my enjoyment of the show though. It was totally entertaining. Thanks so much for listening!
ALEX GATT this is what an excellent review sounds like about Jeff Lynne’s ELO 2024 Tour happening right now… ua-cam.com/video/Xbh73mZ5FxQ/v-deo.htmlsi=ENlHZU9qCz_2-uBA
Thank YOU for watching. Have a great time tonight!! Please come back tomorrow and let me know what you thought. And yes, Blackberry Smoke is one of my favorite bands - that's cool that you noticed!
An somewhat unknown fact Jeff is married to Camelia Kath. She was married to Terry Kath (Chicago) and Kiefer Sutherland. Went to Fridays show in Chicago and the show was terrific! The band including background singers are the same from 2018 tour. Different string players however. The band is made up of great musicians.
I saw Jeff Lynnes ELO at the All State Arena in Rosemont/Chicago in 2018 and the Foo Fighters within a week. Both shows were incredible. What i noticed about Jeffs band was that there were not 1 original member in the band and through it all sounded just like i remember them 50 years ago.
Jeff Lynne owns the ELO name. The old group wanted to keep touring, but Jeff said 'NO' to thetouring using the ELO name, hence the "Part 2" thing. "Jeff : Lynne's ELO" is because he re-recorded all of his songs to separate his music from old recording contracts. Jeff Lynne is in the Songwriting Hall of Fame. He has over 1500 songs in his library. As a podcaster... You should do better homework. Get the setlist... Look them up... Listen to them. Then you won't be unfamiliar with his work. Jeff has to save his 76 year old voice for the tour. He has been told not to talk much. As a plus.. I think it is cheeky to copyright smartphone stolen video clips. Just an opinion...
Show was certainly not bland. Jeff is a a bit older, 79 now. I'm just happy i was able to see them and hopefully they will extend the tour so i can go back again.
Some of his facts are wrong, but overall it is a fair review. The sound system and the lighting rig / videos etc. were not designed by Jeff, so the credit must go to those professionals who designed the concert.
You have a “Rock and Roll” podcast and you have no real clue about ELO or Jeff Lynne??? I thought this would be a serious listen but you lost me pretty early in…Jeff is and always has been Jeff. Much much more than you seem to have any kind of idea about. Sad really…
Hi Paul. Thanks for the well thought out comment. So I assume from your condescending tone that you can speak in depth about The Cult, Queens of the Stone Age, Drivin ‘N’ Cryin, Soul Asylum, The Tragically Hip, and a thousand other bands that have put out music since the last ELO record that made any dent with the general music going public? Actually, I’m going to be not. What you might consider is that all people like certain bands more than others. In my case, I am underwhelmed by ELO’s body of recorded work. Still, my review was very complimentary and yet you have deemed your interest in ELO to be “right” and my outsider’s view as “not serious.” Thats sad really. But thanks for listening and leaving your feedback. What’s you think of the substance of my review. Why not stick to that?
Even with your lack of knowledge of Jeff Lynne ,who is one of my favorite voices in music. You seemed to enjoy the show. That being said.. Jeff is 77 years old. He's not going to be 20-year-old Pete townsend doing windmill strrums on his guitar🎸how would you Be on stage at that age. 🤔 anybody from his musical era would say he is a musical genius🤷♂️ and I was hoping like hell, that they were going to do tightrope😢when i saw them in nashville two weeks ago.. Where I considered it one of the best live performances i've seen👍
They were guiding Jeff at times when he walked around, he is getting pretty old. I think the concert was fantastic and he did a great job. He has been touring with that band and musical director for quite a while now. The Concert in Wimbleton was very similar with the same musical director and band. That drummer is a rock, I don't think I have heard someone with better time. Every musician is top notch and the singers are great. I think it helped that I had watched the Wimbleton concert on UA-cam, so I knew everybody as much as you can from watching a video. I am 76 years old, so I lived through those years. Your review was mostly positive but underwhelming. Those songs bring up deep emotion and were a big part of my life. The disco years were disappointing, but we made it through those years. I remember buying the first album and wearing it out. I don't agree with you critique of the music/songs themselves.
Nice review by a non-fan with some inaccuracies but that's not uncommon. MSG was my fifth show this tour so far and Jeff's voice has gotten stronger with each show. The videos didn't show up well for me so didn't do the light / laser show justice, and probably not his voice, either. I expect you'll see some fantastic videos popping up soon with some good audio and some views of what does go on on-stage that you might miss from the way-back. Lots of subtle and cool things going on, and if you give a listen to a good audio, you'll hear them! One thing I have heard many time when leaving the show from strangers just making comments to their friends or anyone that will listen, is about the quality of the sound and the show and how much energy there is, even with us old folks out there.. check out the Wembley video and you'll see but there are plenty of current-generation fans showing up, too. Timeless music. Glad you were able to go and maybe introduce a few more people to the band.
I attended this show. Your review is spot on..music and visuals excellent. Jeff's stage presence was hardly there. We were on right side of stage(his left) loge 3rd row. He never looked or moved to his left just straight ahead. Was hoping to get one picture that was not a profile. Loved all the songs. Glad I went.
Consider that Jeff is 76 years old. It was obvious in his frail frame, his limited motion, guitar playing and sometimes singing that he won't be doing this much longer.
Loved your review. Some clarification needed for the 90's forward (sorry if I am repeating): ELO II and the Orchestra were a split off from Jeff Lynne. Bev Bevan was one of the three "Owners" of the ELO Name, and decided to take most of the core band in their 70's prime, and hit the road without Lynne. This was a bone of contention with Lynne, who eventually bought out Bevan forcing the dwindling ELO core (from ELO II) to change their name to the Orchestra. In 2001 (?) Jeff's ELO Zoom album had poor cd and ticket sales forcing the cancellation of the planned tour. The conclusion was that there was brand confusion with ELO II, who had toured heavily the past 10 years. Hence "Jeff Lynne's ELO" to make sure consumers knew it was the Creator, Author, and Producer of ELO they were seeing. This split, in 90's, due to Lynne's, then, recording and touring apathy, in addition to one or more lawsuits flying around also resulted in a noticeable mutation at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Many of the "magnificent 7" and string arranger Louis Clark were still alive but not invited or acknowledged. Many of the hard core fans slowly realized that the band served to the audience, in the heyday, was not the business band. The business band prevailed when money and RRHOF was involved. Still a fan, and still glad that Jeff decided, after Hyde Park, to re-emerge as a cover band of himself and grace us with a couple more tours as a result of Hyde park. If accurate, I'm quite a bit of an ELO history buff (lol)! Thanks for being open to comments. Last night, in Chicago, was great!
I couldn't find the whole concert anywhere from NYC - there's a late August show from Seattle up on UA-cam. Thank you for listening! I really appreciate it.
He just happened to get together and produce the Travelling Wiburys. Yup, that's all he did with them. 😳 The back story about the band's creation is legendary. Yet it's cut to a mere afterthought here. Shame.
Telephone Line lacks “emotion or soul” what????? And I had the fortune to see it performed live. After attending almost 80 concerts since the 70’s, I can say it was the most beautiful, moving performance I’ve ever seen
The ELO touring shows have always been around 90minutes. Jeff Lynne never moved much on stage, even when he was 26. See his "pirate dance" on the Top of the Pops TV show from 1972(ish). He doesn't speak much on stage to save his voice for singing. Apparently talking is not healthy for the singing. Even in the old days it was his main sidekick in the band (drummer Bev Bevan then) that introduced the other band members. The arrangements today broadly follow the 70s shows with the backing singers singing the parts Kelly Groucutt sang (Kelly even sang the operatic parts with his falsetto voice). Most of the live songs are the close to the original recordings, obviously Fire On High is shorter and the double ending of Steppin' Out is dropped.
@@anneverebely3033 You mean all the videos of him appearing to strum the guitar? There are a LOT of discussions about whether or not his instruments are in the mix.
They didn't do one of their best songs, which was always an encore tune " Roll Over Beethoven" If I was there I would have been so pissed not hearing that song.
After hearing his voice this tour, it would have been tragic if he DID do it. Love Jeff and his music but he sounds like crap and I'm glad I resold my tickets after watching some of the videos of early shows.
More talent in his little finger than you obviously have, you should have done more research into jeff to try to understand what a talented man he is. when you're 76 bet you wouldn't have the energy to do half what he's doing . listen to the track Tightrope and you'll know why the fan next to you wanted to hear it.
Wow - I'm sorry you felt the need to make a personal attack. I am offering my take on what I saw and heard, and offering evidence to back it up, I don't know what I'll feel like at 76, but I do know what other 76 year old (and older) rockers are doing on stage, and it's more than Jeff Lynne. I'm sorry that upsets you though. And i've heard the song Tightrope. What does that have to do with anything??? LOL
Your comments about the show being "bland" are really just your opinion and not shared by many fans. I'm not what I'd say a huge fane just a fan of their music and a lot of the rock bands of the late 70s. I would've been happy with just the band performing their songs without any of the fluff and it would have been just as good. It's about the music and nothing else. Moving around, chatter between songs, extended jams, don't matter if the music isn't at it's best.
Absolutely they are just my opinion, as are your statements yours. That's why talking about music is fun - music hits people differently. You being happy with the band just performing the songs without the "fluff" and thinking that would have been just as good is just your opinion, and to me sounds like I would have then rather stayed home and listened to the albums. Both are valid opinions because you and I disagree about how we feel about this band's music. But I still was able to enjoy the show because of what you call "fluff" so I don't know why that bothers you so much. Still, I love that you're such a fan of this band, and I hope you got to see them on this tour many times. And I bet we can find common ground with some other bands...cheers to you!
@@TheRock-N-RollShowPodcast I'm also a KISS fan. There fluff is a necessary part of the show. What bothered me about the comment was it looks like you weren't aware of Jeff's age or health and how it was effecting him onstage. The slow shuffle to the mic, coming in late on lyrics or forgetting opening lines, he was going through the motions on guitar without playing anything really meaningful in the mix. Yet he gave it his all and delivered on song after song. Who cares if he didn't move around or say anything more than thank you.
@@DMDvideo10 Obviously I did. And you're right, he didn't do much of anything except sing, which I would have preferred he do without trying to pay guitar also, but I understand that holding a guitar grounded him and gave him something to do so that he wasn't just standing there singing, which would have looked more awkward. Still, acknowledging the band's long history, their great success over the decades, and the reception from the incredible crowd in New York with any off-the-cuff comment is part of my experiences with most any band. If they can't acknowledge the crowd at all, that kind of lack of engagement is a turn off for me. The magic of live music for me is the combination of the band playing and the crowd listening, cheering, and singing along. Imagine if the crowd made no noise at all - do you think the band would feel comfortable? In my opinion - yes, my opinion - that's part of the compact. We ALL acknowledge that we're there sharing something special. But that's me.
Very nice review , I also discovered ELO late in life but find them to be a great band, The shows I’ve seen on UA-cam-tube Jeff doesn’t move much but the singers and band members seem to be having a good time on stage , I also like the flying saucer , I once saw an old concert when the top of the saucer rose up with the band under neath the spaceship and the fast strumming of the strings and guitars starting most songs , I like that and concise it their signature move identifying the elo orchestra , I’ve grown to love the band and the songs. Thanks for a nice review! This band has its own sound with the strings in the music and I also knew Jeff had worked at Abby Road with the Beatles when he was young so he got a good start in the music industry!
Yes, his voice was weaker than in the past from other times I've heard him sing live. He missed a few of the high notes in his regular singing voice - he was able to get those notes in falsetto, but overall it was still really good, and the songs sounded amazing. Thank you for listening!
This tour is a money grab from a brilliant musician who should have hung it up a decade ago. Jeff's voice is shot. I'm sure the band sounded great live but in no world is this ELO.
I saw them in Vancouver in 1975 or 76 was a great show at the Queen Eliz Theater. Great show except for one of the violinists taking a tumble on stage.
I imagine that was the best time to see them. Between then and 1980 was their peak for sure. I'd love to have seen that show! Thanks for sharing that memory, and thank you for listening!!
I saw this show tonight in Houston and I was completely overwhelmed. There were many times I was brought to tears. It was unbelievable.
I was there. Jeff looked really happy

So what do you think you will be doing at 76? So many people would have loved to have had the chance to go see ELO...Jeff is a legend
Jeff Lynne had nothing to do with ELO 2 or The Orchestra. Those were Bev Bevan led bands with some other former ELO members coming and going. There were lawsuits which is why the name was changed from ELO 2 to The Orchestra.
Yep. His command of the facts is a bit lacking. Also, the album Discovery in the late 70s was huge.
Thank you. I almost made a similar post.
Bev sold his 50% share in ELO to Jeff, which is why the name was changed. The lawsuits were related to promotion and representation.
Correct. Jeff had to keep suing them so they would stop performing as "ELO."

Second, I encourage you to respond and tell me where I said that Jeff Lynne is not talented. Third, please provide evidence of Tom Petty saying Jeff Lynne is the best overall musician "ever." Fifth, thank you for validating what I observed in my review - that ELO really does have passionate fans.

Exactly. ELO PT 2 and Orkestra were not Lynne projects. Although the band had Bevan, Kaminski and Groucutt from ELO....
@TheRock-N-RollShowPodcast maybe we don't want those hype bands! You can't compare an Original to those bands that duplicate each other.
I agree - that's exactly what I said in my review.
You need to stop talking about things in you know absolutely nothing
That’s a lame comment. Do better - be better. Thanks!

I don't want to bash Rooney but I am not a huge fan. I agree with fewer Rooney songs and more ELO.

If you think any ELO song resembles disco you have never heard disco. ELO fan since 1975!!!

We saw the show in Philadelphia...I was so happy to be able to see Jeff Lynne after all these years. My husband enjoyed it as well. Maybe it's just not his thing but I would have liked to hear more from him. But the music was great!
Older than you? Bro. You're in the target demographic.

Jeff Lynne owns the ELO name. The old group wanted to keep touring, but Jeff said 'NO' to thetouring using the ELO name, hence the "Part 2" thing. "Jeff :
Lynne's ELO" is because he re-recorded all of his songs to separate his music from old recording contracts.
Jeff Lynne is in the Songwriting Hall of Fame. He has over 1500 songs in his library.
As a podcaster... You should do better homework. Get the setlist... Look them up... Listen to them. Then you won't be unfamiliar with his work.

Be on stage at that age.
It was Roy Wood'S brainchild! He only managed to get Jeff Lynne into The Move so they could do ELO.
Give credit where it is due!
I’m glad he lives in the US.
Thank you for listening! I'm glad the show was as good as it was...what's your next show?
Also, when Zoom was made the record label was in litigation and unable to promote it like they should have.
Great review of the legend Jeff Lynne and ELO's final tour through NYC. Is the video of the concert available anywhere?
I couldn't find the whole concert anywhere from NYC - there's a late August show from Seattle up on UA-cam.
Thank you for listening! I really appreciate it.
He just happened to get together and produce the Travelling Wiburys. Yup, that's all he did with them. 😳
The back story about the band's creation is legendary. Yet it's cut to a mere afterthought here. Shame.
Your review was so insightful! Going to pookie01a (my mom) to the Chicago show. Criminally underrated podcast!
Thank you - that’s very kind. Please keep listening!
Telephone Line lacks “emotion or soul” what????? And I had the fortune to see it performed live. After attending almost 80 concerts since the 70’s, I can say it was the most beautiful, moving performance I’ve ever seen
Wow!!
I was at MSG. Good show. But I wonder if Jeff Lynne was reading the words. He never played much of the guitar - the band played on.
So all these videos of him taken by the audience of him playing the guitar are not real…..?
@@anneverebely3033 You mean all the videos of him appearing to strum the guitar? There are a LOT of discussions about whether or not his instruments are in the mix.
They didn't do one of their best songs, which was always an encore tune " Roll Over Beethoven"
If I was there I would have been so pissed not hearing that song.
LOL
Love your reviews!!! Keep em coming!
Thank you! Will do!
Why no mention of Rockaria!?
@@TheRock-N-RollShowPodcast Judging by the crowds response and the overall reviews from the tour Jeff let his music do the talking... And it works.
Pffft! Why bring them down at the end of your podcast.
Nashville 😊
I stopped listening to this by 4 minutes. Ok.. you're not a fan.
Jeff seems in poor voice here. he sounds worn out and tired. rock n roll is a
young man's game. love the songs tho. always been a fan.
Yes, his voice was weaker than in the past from other times I've heard him sing live. He missed a few of the high notes in his regular singing voice - he was able to get those notes in falsetto, but overall it was still really good, and the songs sounded amazing. Thank you for listening!
Is it my imagination or does, Jeff Lynne sound like Bob Dylan!!
I didn't hear that, but I want to re-listen now!
