Found this review through Crowbcat's vid. Gotta say this is one of the most underrated reviews I've seen so far. Great job going into so much detail, especially regarding the missing features and broken promises. Most reviewers just glossed over it or didn't mention it at all..
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! And yea I also definitely felt like a lot of other reviewers glossed over way to many aspects of this game, so I wanted to make sure I noted as much as I could
It's good to see a review where every aspect of the game is reviewed instead of "bugs ruined this flawless game" or "bugs are the only problem" or "now the game is amazing, bugs have been fixed". I've always said this game can't be fixed because its core is rotten and to this day I'm disappointed at how generic and bland this game is compared to The Witcher games, W3 expansions and even Thronebreaker. I mean each of these games are not flawless but at least imo they are very good games I have played many times and you can feel that a lot of passion and heart has been put into them but the CP2077 is the complete opposite it is boring, bad designed , bland and just feels passionless and as if there is no heart at all during development and CP2077 its pretty much only step backwards compared to any Witcher game.
The more I watch and read about Cyberpunk the more im baffled how anyone could give this game a 10/10. Thank you for sharing some important details in this review. I knew the A.I. was bad... but I didn't realize it was THAT bad. Yikes. As usual another banger review dude. Looking forward to what to you have for us in 2021 👍
Thanks bro! 🙌 And yea the AI is really bad and it's super noticeable too. I was really surprised to see how many people didn't even really mention it in their reviews.
Spot-on review! In-depth, mature and thoughtful unlike the game that’s being reviewed. If you followed this game’s development even as little as watching a 2018 gameplay demo then you’d be in for a hell of disappointment as all of the things outlined in it about player choice, consequences, NPC AI, gameplay mechanics are nowhere to be found in the released product. I refunded it after one playthrough on GOG. As you aptly highlighted bugs are the least of the game’s issues and it’s ironic considering bugs are so abundant.
Great video! I also think that the worse of this game is the lack of consistency in the main story and the fact that V has no clear goal (and also that we cannot choose it). Although it is a bit of a shame because you can see the untapped potential when it comes to storytelling and character development in the Judy questline, for example. The pacing is terrible and the overall story is rushed. Damn shame.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. And yep! I definitely agree. I was totally shocked by how little your playing could actually shape the character, while at the same time, the game doesnt want to define V themselves. Its a very weird middle ground and it feels like the worst way they could have gone about it.
Thank you for being one the very few people participating in the CP77 online discourse who directly mention how bad the dialogue writing is in this game at times.
For me feels like main story miss whole act, or even more than one. I find story captivating only in prologue, final mission contains very traditional final ambush, everything between not so different from side quests. Help some character for information, then help another, choose your side before final confrontation, that's all. Also I think arasaka endings was well executed and give me some existential terror vibes. I try to find some really interesting side quests, but failed. Most of them lacking any interesting culmination, often you are expect that maybe character calls you later and something happened, but nothing happens. Overall underdeveloped mainstream semi-RPG with impessive decorations, 6/10 indeed.
Yup I definitely agree that the game feels like it's missing at least 1 act. Just never felt like it really got going, and then it was over. And the arosaka ending is cool in idea, my issue is that they don't develop/build it up earlier in the game. I'm all for dark endings, but it just didn't feel earned to me. Thanks for checking out the video!
One of the best reviews I've seen, and I don't even play games, yet it made me stay for 40 minutes to watch to the end. Why do channels like this don't get popular?
They had Mike Pondsmith helping them. All they had to do is emulate Fallout New Vegas; multilayered quests with things to discover over multiple playthroughs.
I hear ya, I am having fun but damn I really wish it wasn't all Johnny Silverhand and I have to agree with the common thought that shit got messed up because someone decided it needed "star power" more than a great game. Hopefully they salvage it with the updates and DLC.
Yea im really curious to see if any behind the scenes stories come out that confirm or deny that idea. And yea I'm hoping the DLC can function as it's own standalone thing, so that they don't feel the need to try to make it about the stuff we already see in the base game. IMO they should Ignore Johnny, Ignore V, and just tell an interesting side story elsewhere.
I was enjoying the game, but it was dead to me the moment i realized i die at the end no matter the ending. This made coming back and continue playing so depressing for me and malancholic, like I didnt belong in that world anymore, the wonderlust of exploring died, cause whats the point, as amerc I had no future that would last, beyond a few months, etc, this lack of choice and option is surprising considering the 3 unique endings of witcher which ranged from depressing to good to mdium, ciri geralt die, ciri becomex witcher and ciri as empress etc. Just i havent gone back in since i beat it, i cant bring myself to cause i dont feel like i have the life cdpr promised me in that game, immerssion is dead, and story dlc? like what? it has to take place b4 i die, or if after is it post leaving with panam if so it trivalizes the other endings, but prob take place in the underdeveloped pacifica. sigh. there are mountain of things more wrong with the game, ai sucks, it is hallow, and so much more, but the fact of V dying no matter what, is what killed my desire to return, like why role play a merc and be excieted to explore when i know i will die, and any long term play in game breaks the immerssion that i will die within a few weeks etc, so playing long is also problematic.....sigh...
Great review. You can tell from the game that mike pondsmith created an amazing setting...And you can also tell CDPR completely fucked it up. I have no faith in them in continuing the project, tbh and I wonder if too much of the actual talent left after Witcher 3, much like when Blizzard north and bunch of others left. The bugs drowned out how directionless the story was, and I found a some of the side quests that get the most praise to be incredibly overrated. Seems like CDPR took the world of Cyberpunk and then ignored most of the Cyberpunk lore to focus all their attention on their own spin to the setting. Makes me wonder why they even bought the franchise at this point. Honestly the bugs and the Anime did a good job at covering just how bad the story and character development was.
Lmao its insane how much the bugs overshadowed all criticism/dicussion about the rest of the game. It bothered me to no end that nearly every "Critical" review that youtubers put out at launch was just them crying about the bugs for 90% of the video, and then they said "Oh yea the story was great" and then went back to complaining about the bugs lol. I still talk to people online about this game, and even after the recent uptick in praise after Edgerunners dropped, nobody had been able to explain to me why they think story works/what the story even is lol.
I focused on a hacker build and let me tell you. If you want stealth, invest in hacking. I didn't need the cool stat mostly because I could hack a camera outside a building and then jump to all the other cameras inside the building, then I could just quick hack and kill everyone without even walking into the hostile area. My stealth perk kept getting unnecessary levels because of it
The story should have been rags to riches, then you get a heist of a life time( the bio chip) Dlc 1 is about Johnny Dlc 2 is about the crystal Palace space heist Dlc 3 is corporate war
the story is about a guy who has to die in about 2 weeks ..and what would every person in the world do when he knows he has to die? right... chasing stupid taxis, collecting thousands of trash items in the city, doing meaningless jobs for strangers and of course buying a bunch of cars before taking care of himself .......
Yep. Doesn't really make much sense. If they had given V a real character arc, like Arthur's Redemption Arc in RDR2, they could have made doing the side stuff feel like it connected to the narrative. But since V has no arc at all, well... It just feels pointless lol
@@chrisrivera7530 This isn't really the case the arc is dependent on how you play. Unlike in red dead where they funnel you down one story and your alignment has nearly unnoticeable effects. For instance I went from a wealth obsessed corpo to abanonding night city and joining the nomads. Essentially you can direct the arc in several ways, you can have a hostile relationship with Johnny and side with the corporations, you can choose wealth and status and lose your love interest as a result. You start in the same place, a wealth and status obsessed character but you can dictate what direction you can go to a far greater degree than Red Dead. The nitpicking is getting way out of hand. Yea it doesn't have insane branching storylines but no game has that. Definitely not red dead. I get you like the red dead story but you're holding cyberpunk to standards that no other game is.
@@scparker6893 "Unlike in red dead where they funnel you down one story" Cyberpunk literally abandons your lifepath choices and funnels you into being a low level merc 15 minutes into the game. I get the feeling you haven't ever played an RPG before if you genuinely think people are holding this game to standards no other game has. Fallout New Vegas, Mass Effect, The Witcher 3 (You know, the last game CDPR made).
seems like the endings were at some point tied to your life paths Corpo would take the deal, Street kid would go with silverhand and rogue and well nomad would call panam for help...like you said they seem to shifted ideas a lot
Yea there are multiple moments throughout the game were it felt like they had a larger idea on how to use the lifepaths, but either removed it or shifted ideas before finishing it. Several side missions feel like your lifepath should have a major effect on how things play out, but it simply doesn't.
No, they obviously removed life path restrictions so people could see all the content. Like you said. If you play this game true to your life path, you're not going to see a lot of the game.
@@cr3d294 That sounds really stupid and is antithetical to the core idea of making an RPG. If they scrap the different stories and haphazardly try to cram them together in one, it makes literally everything feel inconsequential. Why bother making decisions if none of them matter? If they wanted to make a singular story, they should have made a linear game. As I explained in great detail in my story section of this review, it seems like they have a few surface level ideas, but changed ideas and tried to cram things back together when they ran out of time, resulting in a non-story.
That meter of jonny doesnt matter :D ... you dont need 70% to get the secret ending .. you need one mission and 3 choices. Plus i hated Jonny.. the story is 23 hrs and i forgot the stupid quest after 120 hrs of just shooting people in their stupid face that AI is worse then GTA 3.. it is .. i fcking checked. The story should have been an expansion. This is not a full game story. Plus the story should be called the chronicles of jonny silverhand cause V is nowhere and he doesnt have a god damn choice to do shit.. His responses are YES, yes and yeah.. no, NO and nah.. Ohhh and the path is corpo no or corpo yes.. its soo stupid.. they made a game movie with an open world and they didnt know how to use the stupid ciuty soi they made it into a looter shooter... without that this game is 30 hrs and crap cause its very rushed and characters are just killed and we have to be sad.. WE DIDNT EVEN HAD 5 HRS WITH JACKIE.. action-adventiure crap that is rushed, unfinished, cut and redone.. This game had 4 years of development the most.. scrapped the story 3 times.. and on top of everything.. THEY LIED. They lied sooo many times in their marketing that if i had a ton of money id sue.. That is why i dont buy games.. But the way they lied ohh man... OHHH and the whole 7 endings... are 20% of the WHOLE GAME..yes... the whole gameplay is 80% so if you restart the stupid game 6 times and play all of the endings you did it babba... soo dumb and im pissed as hell.. nice fitting to a shitty year..
Acutally a netrunner build is too op. You just pinging and select your target through the wall with the quickhack "suizid". And "suizid" do what you think it will do. A Enemys will kill itself and it will spread 1 time to the neartest enemys. With "system down" you will have also another instant "kill" method - and the enemys dont even know where you are, so you will be undetacted the whole time. Okay, to be fair. They have a feature and with it they can spott your position to deal with you.. but you killing them faster, than they will find you. Remember the big arasaka warehouse? yeah? 1 minute and I cleared all enemys. Most fights take 10 seconds to finish they off, tho.
Yes! It feels hollow, and I'm so confused on what to do. So many different missions and side missions all over the map and I'm not sure what is what. Also I'm supposed to go to the sky Cassius has to get something free but I can't figure out what it is and how to claim it
I thought there was so much missed opportunity for ideas that could have added to the world , like you say the police are useless, they should have crazy technology and powers themselves which are mitigated by other stuff the player has , all vehicles in the future probably have trackers, give the player some sort of jammer so they can steal cars, things like that; everything seems very surface level and aesthetic with no meaning or reason for it
I played some gta v the other day and the interactions you can have with npcs when stealing their cars compared to this (where there is none) is absolutely mind blowing
Yea there were definitely many missed opportunities to make this game feel unique (or even make it feel like it functions properly as a world lol) but it's a damn shame how shallow it ended up being.
We can go back and forth about story decisions, choices, rpg mechanics, bugs, NPC and police AI, and yeah there are some big issues with this game in those aspects.. with that being said, I think there’s only 1 way to really judge a game, and that’s whether or not it’s fun to play.. and this game is so damn fun I can’t put it down, so even with all the issues and shortcomings it has, I still love it because I have a ton of fun playing it .. but I respect ur criticisms and enjoyed the video, thanks
It’s an amazing game and the story is great too, do the side content and you will get a lot of insight to the thing. I call Cyberpunk more as a Life style simulation game. So many secrets if you explore and a lot are not even market there just there if you search. I can understand it might not be everones cup of tea but it’s a fun game
I really enjoy hearing people's thoughts about this game. This was interesting. I'll talk about what I agreed and disagreed with. For me, the story was done super well. Probably the strongest aspect of the game. I went into this expect something like GTA 5 where it's goofy fun (it is in some spots) but came out legitimately caring about key characters including Johnny, Judy & Panam. I don't think stories need to have a "point." Sometimes, stories can just show you the meaningless and absurdity of life. To me the sign of a successful story is one that actually made me feel something. You know how some people say that Blade Runner (1982) is a bad detective movie because Deckard barely does any detective work compared to Blade Runner 2049? I don't get the point of that kind of criticism. I really liked Johnny's character because I thought the one liners were funny and Keanu's deadpan style fit his cool guy exterior with emotions rarely seeping through. As for themes, I found there is a motif of inevitability as things go south even if Judy tries to do something for Clouds and how V will die at the end regardless of what he/she does (assuming you made certain choices). There's also the theme of love and friendship being more important than glory (again, assuming you made certain choices). V comes into Night City to become a legend and eventually leaves with a group of close folks. I do think this game has a heart and it shows in the writing, characters, music, map designs etc even with all it's issues. As for other issues like bugs, lack of customization and brain dead AI, yeah there's no defending those. Game should have spend at least another year in development. I know people are going hard on it because of CDPR's promises but I don't see why we should judge games based on how "deep" the RPG mechanics are. This is no New Vegas and it's not trying to be. There is a small degree of choice and consequences and it's fine. Heck, I'd say quickhacking and gunfights in this are more fun than the mind numbing button mashing combat of something like Skyrim. I feel like people call this shallow because they're comparing it to a bunch of different games that all specialize in different things. They want Fallout, GTA, RDR, Deus Ex, all rolled into a perfect package. Witcher 3 is not really a "deep" RPG either and it doesn't have that many endings but people absolutely love it. Why? Because they care about what's going on. This game banks on your connection with Johnny... and honestly I think that aspect worked. So I can see how finding him annoying can really bring down the experience as he's everywhere. If you can't tell, I kinda loved this game and while it's definitely not a 10/10 masterpiece it's the most fun I've had with an open world triple A title in a long time. The fundamentals for a masterpiece are there but it falls short because of the aforementioned issues and I don't think updates can fix things like awful police AI. I'd take something like this any day over the lifeless garbage that Ubisoft puts out like AC: Valhalla. A video game that actually engages the player emotionally is a rare thing and I came away totally invested in this world they've created. I just wanted more. That Peralez quest line, Joshua Stephenson's story, epic stuff. Everything gives the world more life (even though NPCs are lifeless haha).
Hi Chris Rivera, I Watched your video from the very beginning to the very end, and to be honest you are a little bit harsh in evaluating the game, but there are things that I agree with you in. I would be more than happy to make a podcast or something with you in the future, because i think you have a good way of thinking about games and also would be fun to see something controversy in your videos in live, so it wouldn't sound sound something pre-scripted opinion about the game. I have 175.4 hours in Cyberpunk 2077 and beside the fact that i can prove it, nut just by taking a screenshot and show it, but I have completed the game 100% of course. In my opinion, there is much more in this game that you have shared in this video. This doesn't mean that the game wasn't a huge disappointment for me too, moreover what was more disappointed for me is what they are doing in the video game industry these days. CD PROJECT RED is just very well represented it with a horrible example which is Cyberpunk 2077. It is not even half-done, it is far more worse than that. If i would have to describe my Cyberpunk 2077 experience, i'd say: It is the worse representation and humiliation of character movement and likeness, driving experience, definition of physics, and everything else which was alredy have been done in the game industry before a 100 million times better. Hammond over and out (a funny good by for Stargate Fans :) )
Salutations Daud Tieglemon, I have read your comment from the very beginning to the very end and, to be frank, your evaluation of Mr. Rivera's evaluation of Cyberpunk 2077 is a tad bit overdramatic. I would be more than happy to make a podcast or webseries with you in the future because I believe you have an interesting way of riding the coattails of minor celebrities; it would also be hilarious to see you try and form full sentences in an unscripted environment. I have 177.6 hours in Cyberpunk 2077 and - aside from the fact that I refuse to prove it - will continue to reiterate that I have, indeed, completed Cyberpunk 2077. Did I mention I have finished the game? In my opinion, there is not much in this game that wasn't covered extensively in Mr. Rivera's video. This doesn't mean that the game wasn't a huge disappointment for me as well. Somehow, it was astronomically worse. Moreover, what was even more baffling for me is how CDPR has responded to their mishandling of the game and its launch. It is not even half-finished and far worse than we could have imagined. If I had to describe my experience with your comment, I'd say: "It is the worst response to a video, a humiliating attempt to become relevant, that I have ever seen. Adios motherfucker (a funny good by for Gemini Man Fans :) )
There definitely is some, but most of the ones I found were just slightly different versions of already existing guns, usually just with slightly better stats which was a bit dissapointing. There were a couple that felt pretty unique but those were very rare in my experience
I’m a RPG junkie and Fallout, Skyrim were my no.1 games untill this game. Cyberpunk2077 is like a RPG with fantastic Gameplay and gives you an amazingly detailed world to drive in with actual good vehicles. After 1.5 the driving has been fantastic and Specially the bikes. A truly mis understood Masterpiece, has no more bugs then any other game of it’s Scale. It has a very cool vibe, music fantastic, actors fantastic. I have to talk the truth about this game as it really is a Gem what got a little bad start.. ( pretty normal these days ) Play it I truly believe everyone can take something from it.
Did you actually watch any of the review? Or did you just see the slightly negative title and hop in the comments to valiently suck the game off like you were paid by CDPR? "Play it" Yeah I did numbnuts thats why Im reviewing it. Since you likely didnt watch the video, if you just want the cliff notes - check the sections where I talk about how it isnt much of an RPG (17:55) Also about how the world is a facade (34:34) And the part about how there is no real story (27:05). Or you could just watch the full review and then engage in the comments like an adult.
Thats the game's terrible optimization lol. I was using a 2080 with this. I can make do with sitting around the 50-70 if I have to, I wanted to finish and review the game so 🤷♂️ it is what it is
@@resadsuleymanzade5836 Ryzen 7 1800x, so a little old and definitely not helping performance, but this game was pretty terribly optimized all around. My friend on a 2080ti and 8700k was still only getting around 60-70 at 1440
It's not being there any crisis or promise there were overhyped ourselves and they were too worried about the gamers that sells what I would have done is focused on making the game fun entertainment fun as hell just like the Yakuza series or Ace Combat or Tekken remember fun is the number one priority and good storytelling . If I was an employee at CD projekt Red I will say let's watch some Sci-Fi movies 🤖👽🌌so we can get inspiration and get my notebook and make it awesome and fun as hell💚💙❤💚🎮❤👁👄👁💚💙💚
It is fun dude. If you get the right build for you and the cyber-ware you like.. you can be a slow motion, invisible Ninja who can pull a Pistol out and double jump to the roofs. It’s an incredible game, it takes time and exploring but very fun indeed

I still talk to people online about this game, and even after the recent uptick in praise after Edgerunners dropped, nobody had been able to explain to me why they think story works/what the story even is lol.
great stuff as always chris!
Thanks!
Awesome review, youve touched on all the details, and im with you on this.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!
I focused on a hacker build and let me tell you. If you want stealth, invest in hacking. I didn't need the cool stat mostly because I could hack a camera outside a building and then jump to all the other cameras inside the building, then I could just quick hack and kill everyone without even walking into the hostile area. My stealth perk kept getting unnecessary levels because of it
The story should have been rags to riches, then you get a heist of a life time( the bio chip)
Dlc 1 is about Johnny
Dlc 2 is about the crystal Palace space heist
Dlc 3 is corporate war
That would make it even less cyberpunk and more GTA.
No just no
What a nice Video! Good work!!
the story is about a guy who has to die in about 2 weeks ..and what would every person in the world do when he knows he has to die? right... chasing stupid taxis, collecting thousands of trash items in the city, doing meaningless jobs for strangers and of course buying a bunch of cars before taking care of himself .......
Same here Chris. You put it better.
the worst line of johnny s is when you reach alt and the media guy is filming. js says ´´Are you still rollin``.
Also I'm supposed to go to the sky Cassius has to get something free but I can't figure out what it is and how to claim it
great review...congratz for the hard work.....about the game...is a big shame.i was having so much hope on something really good..oh well,,
Thanks man! And yea, it's a bit of a shame how the final game turned out
Play it. It’s good 👍🏼
Lost my shit when i heard the "6/10" of keanu lmao
Great video. Earned a sub
Thank you!
Yea there were definitely many missed opportunities to make this game feel unique (or even make it feel like it functions properly as a world lol) but it's a damn shame how shallow it ended up being.
video is well done
Thanks!
Such a great review, keep up the good work.
Your commentary and analysis is ign level.
I know you THINK that's a compliment... but it really ain't.
Johnny Silverhand is the Jar Jar Binks of the game world.
Hi Chris Rivera,
I Watched your video from the very beginning to the very end, and to be honest you are a little bit harsh in evaluating the game, but there are things that I agree with you in.
If i would have to describe my Cyberpunk 2077 experience, i'd say:
It is the worse representation and humiliation of character movement and likeness, driving experience,
definition of physics, and everything else which was alredy have been done in the game industry before a 100 million times better.
Hammond over and out (a funny good by for Stargate Fans :) )
Salutations Daud Tieglemon,
I have read your comment from the very beginning to the very end and, to be frank, your evaluation of Mr.
Johnny Mnemonic, Johnny Silverhand... what's the difference?
👍👍👍
Am I the only one that thinks the main story is overrated?
Nope. I think it's straight up terrible lol
If I ever had a nickel for every good Cyberpunk game, I would've had 3..
Blade Runner, Blood Dragon and Saints Row 4....
Make GTA 6 Cyberpunk.
Have you found any cool legendary gear?
There definitely is some, but most of the ones I found were just slightly different versions of already existing guns, usually just with slightly better stats which was a bit dissapointing. There were a couple that felt pretty unique but those were very rare in my experience
Cyberpunk 2077 Best enjoyed with your brain turned off
"...nonsense for there sake of nonsense..." well, you just defied the video game industry.
@@chrisrivera7530 engage in the comments like an adult? Dude you can’t even acknowledge nor accept another opinion
Your FPS is too low man.How you managed to play with this FPS?
Thats the game's terrible optimization lol. I was using a 2080 with this. I can make do with sitting around the 50-70 if I have to, I wanted to finish and review the game so 🤷♂️ it is what it is
@@chrisrivera7530 i m confused.What cpu u use?
@@resadsuleymanzade5836 Ryzen 7 1800x, so a little old and definitely not helping performance, but this game was pretty terribly optimized all around. My friend on a 2080ti and 8700k was still only getting around 60-70 at 1440
Yeah ik I already knew it would be horrible
It's not being there any crisis or promise there were overhyped ourselves and they were too worried about the gamers that sells what I would have done is focused on making the game fun entertainment fun as hell just like the Yakuza series or Ace Combat or Tekken remember fun is the number one priority and good storytelling . If I was an employee at CD projekt Red I will say let's watch some Sci-Fi movies 🤖👽🌌so we can get inspiration and get my notebook and make it awesome and fun as hell💚💙❤💚🎮❤👁👄👁💚💙💚
What the fuck is this comment
It is fun dude. If you get the right build for you and the cyber-ware you like.. you can be a slow motion, invisible Ninja who can pull a Pistol out and double jump to the roofs. It’s an incredible game, it takes time and exploring but very fun indeed

It’s really *that* half baked?? Wow
