To be fair, Hearts had the better of the first half. They had clear-cut chances which they squandered. If they hadn't it could have been a different story, though not necessarily a different outcome. And Kuhn's goal was very special. Not just the finish, but how he kept his cool while 3 Jambos were bearing down on him at speed.
A lot of the players clock up a lot of miles playing for their country. Our three Japanese stars and Ali Johnson and Trusty. They didn't get much minutes but the air miles and time zones, do zap the energy levels. It's over until March, so hopefully between now and then, we will see the players playing at the optimum level best and by the time of the next international break, the leagie will be finished, the league cup will be back in the trophy room and hopefully we will be in the last 8 of the champions league. Great 3 points, no injuries and Brügge is the next one to tick off. A massive game but we need to up the levels from the Hearts victory and put in another top display and make it 10 points in the champions league, something we would ne er though would happen. HailHail lads.
It’s nice to see a solid post international break performance. Not bad against Hearts and Aberdeen previously but to see everyone up for it after half time was exciting, especially the subs. A sign of things to come over the next few weeks?
Here's an interesting stat that I found quite surprising. (League games only) Kasper Schmeichel has made 29 saves from 33 shots faced Jack Butland has made 21 saves from 30 shots faced Now obviously a "Shot" is a very broad term in this context, as it can be anything from an unsaveable screamer to a tame sclaff that trundles through in to the GK's arms. So I'm not talking about the actual quality of shots faced. I'm just talking about the raw number here. Celtic are conceding an average of 2.75 shots on target per league game which is pretty good because as I said this includes ANYTHING that was technically on target. So KS is not being asked to do a whole lot but when he is called in to action he's been very good. The goals he has conceded have been a deflection, a penalty, a 25 yard screamer and a one on one with the striker. Apart from maybe the one on one v Aberdeen, there's not really much he could've done with the 4 goals he's conceded. rangers are conceding an average of 2.5 shots on target per league game. So again, like Schmeichel, Butland isn't being called in to action all that much BUT he's conceded 9 goals. I've no idea how many of those 9 goals he should have done better with. Anyway I just found it quite surprising that with an 11pt lead after 12 games, it's actually our keeper who's faced more total shots than the huns keeper. I'm sure if you asked most folk they'd (correctly) say the big difference between the two sides is the quality up front in the final third of the pitch just now but there is also quite a difference in the goalkeeping department, which I found surprising given the praise that is heaped on Butland in the media.
A good percentage of the shots we've conceded I'd guess were in the Kilmarnock game alone. Stats are deceiving watch with yer eyes stats told people turnbull was better than hatate enough said 😂
Snide response 😂 Yer eyes clearly tell ye that Schmeichel is better aswell but a see you're a mad stat lover probably never been to a game in yer life. Have a good day enjoy yer stat bombs n spreadsheets
Rewatch the Leipzig game, Engels flick to Kuhn for his first goal, Engels dummy run to open the space for him to come inside, he’s a very talented player
The thing that I like now with Brendan Rodgers 2nd spell in charge of Celtic. Is that they keep pushing for the whole of the game. Always going for the jugular of the other team. Just great quick football.
The 5 subs rule really helps with this. Assuming no major injuries to GK, both CB's and McGregor, we've then got 7 outfield positions that do most of the running & pressing and we can replace 5 of them with players who are either of equal quality or not far off it Ralston for Johnston is a bit of a drop off to be fair but Ralston is still half decent Valle for Taylor isn't much of a drop off, if at all. Bernardo for Engels not much difference McCowan for Hatate bit of a drop off depending on what mood Hatate is in But McCowan has looked good so far Forrest for Kuhn Ok big drop off but only because Kuhn is on another planet. Forrest is still a very good player Idah for Kyogo bit of a drop off but not huge Yang/Palma for Maeda that's probably an area we need to strengthen in January to be fair. But all in all, our attacking options from the bench are very good when it comes to domestic football and the fact that we can basically change half of our outfield during a game, helps us to keep our intensity going for 90 minutes.
In my almost 60 years watching Celtic I truly believe that this is the strongest squad we have ever had. We may have had a better starting XI but our subs bench is full of potential starters.
A lot of people moaning about the late kick off. I loved it! Saturday night in, a few cans and slightly giddy due to Rangers and Dons' results. Totally selfish from my point of view. I suppose it was a bit of a drag for those travelling but Saturday night - not many working the next day I presume.
This is the effect of time as Ange said in the CL A mixture of great managers and great players bought and sold over time Then there’s the stayers and good recruitment A great mix
Can forgive the players for the lacklustre first half. Weird kickoff time, international hangover, sleet and snow, diets trying their wee bitter best & a half empty stadium with zero atmosphere. The important bit is the scoreline, which would have been comical if Craig Gordon had been off the boil. They could not live with use when we upped the passing speed.
Stevie you were spot on with Kuhn s Celtic start - he wasn't ready & has pretty much said so himself. Unless you totally wrote him off, you were not wrong on his performances missing something. St truden ( logo anyway ) reminds me of St Johnstons crest.
Clubs are always saying that they can’t compete against the money Celtic and Rangers have but they don’t fill there stadiums and give us very few tickets when they could get thousands in madness on there behalf give more tickets to the away fans get the atmosphere back at the games. ☘️🍀
Agree with Hamish,Tynecastle was a quiet place with big gaps in the crowd. Expected a drunken Saturday night rabble, think they must have just stayed in the pub.
The first half reminded me of the days when I did open mic comedy slots in the sense that it was just a warm up for what was to come and that's exactly what happened.
Delighted for Idah. Love him. Gets so much criticism when he rarely starts and always contributes And Kuhn . .... no words left for him. He's a rolls Royce of a player
Doing Hatate a bad turn for the first half.. Taylor Daizen and McGregor had a terrible first half. Hatate alought quiet first half started demanding the ball 2nd half and that's what Rodgers must have said at HT
The sfa must take some responsibility for the appalling ticket allocations .if they are supposed to insure good governance they should not allow this to continue .it makes a complete and utter mockery of our game . Only in Scotland and only in football would a so called professional business refuse custom to the tune of hundred of thousands possibly millions
Did u miss the first episode where hamish said this was cos he now works for himself and owns his own channel cos he worked for a company before that ruined 67HH mate
Typical after international break, upsets the rhythm for sure,a great 3 points considering other results😂as well..all in all a great wknd of footy..HH🍀🟩⬜️🟧🍀

Hamish. Stevie and you are great together
Few episodes late with this but massive thanks for changing the alarm sound in the intro to something easier on the ears!

A great weekend for the Hoops. Our main challengers drop points and the Newco are struggling to hold on to third spot. 🍀🍀🍀
It's no just Kuhn going forward. His workrate tracking back is also important. Take note Luis Palma.

@@frankiemcgowan2215 It was a perfectly civil response.
Unpopular opinion: Bernardo looks a better player than Engles.
Completely agree. Both are young lads so we need to give them time to develop. But I think Bernardo deserves a few starts.

Totally agree. The subs are improving performances. Great season so far, no complaints.

When Kuhn scored, there were three defenders closing in on him and that kind of made his mind up to go for the near post.
Agree with Hamish,Tynecastle was a quiet place with big gaps in the crowd. Expected a drunken Saturday night rabble, think they must have just stayed in the pub.
You weren’t the only one Stevie 🍀👍
Fab reaction guys
The 'squad mentality' kicked off with Ange.... be ready to come and play your part when asked....be it 5 minutes. Love it
Hearts cut off the fans cause they say their fans have bought tickets but it looks empty
The first half reminded me of the days when I did open mic comedy slots in the sense that it was just a warm up for what was to come and that's exactly what happened.

The problem with Arne is three games a week. He’s going to need time to adjust to that schedule so we need to give him the time.
Just dusting off the cobwebs in the first half
Hearts scored in the second half. The first half was bizarre though.
Storm Bartholomew is what the storm should have been called
HAIL HAIL lads 🍀💚🍀
Heart done themselves out of Thousands of pounds, with this mad rule about away fans, it mental 🎉🎉🎉😂
Did Forrest not get a 2 year contract ?
One year ( for now )
My world was made when l saw green + white hail hail
