Recreational coach from Kosovo here. I have been using the slice backhand heavily since my conversion from a 2 handed BH to a 1-handed BH. However, 2 tips that I was not conscious of are: 1) The pronation of the forearm - which led to a limited variety of length and height; 2) firing of the hip: available power source that comes in handy when in need to make a deep cross or keep the ball low from a net approaching player.

This is perfect explanation of Roger slice, however, is Fairy difficult but very effective, easier is Novak's slice when he doesn't open head of racket so much in early stage of preparation and finally is possible to use Ken Rosewall's type of slice which is directing towards opponent , least effective but good when you are barvy reaching the ball when you are chased off the court towards backhans site, would like your opinion, greeting you and thanking for your excellent lectures
Miss Rogers slice it basically died in 2013 look at 2005 it was an aggressive shot to use as an approach shot or the good old slice and drive I think the lack of slice caused him extra losses to Novak. Great video mate !!!
Good video, but definitely need some more emphasis on keeping your head down for the entire shot, especially moving forward and leaning into the slice. A lot of players stop moving their feet half way through or pull back.
I think the slice is considered a safe shot because it's take so little effort. When hitting under-spin you really just need to set the right racquet face. Thanks
My default is one hand backhand topspin. So from ready position and unit turn I always switch to Eastern backhand grip when the ball comes to backhand side. Do I need to decide earlier that I'm going to slice? Or can I switch to Eastern after unit turn and then switch to Conti after seeing that I won't be able to topspin it?
Good question! Yes, you can still switch because the set up for the one-hander and the slice are so close. When you watch Fed it's hard to tell if he's going to hit a slice or a one-hander sometimes. As long as you have your non-dominant hand on the racquet you can switch to hitting a slice.
rubbish. it makes ok slice, not a good one. good slice is not yet introduced in ATP tour at the present time. do you want to learn a good slice? watch how samurai slice with their swords. then apply it to tennis. have fun!
