Hi Tarlochan, just finished replicating your design. Its really excellent.I made my profile to fit the extended side table then cut it at the end, Now my fixed jigsaw table and separate router are secure and interchangeable on the same track. Im thinking of adding track on both sides with connecting corners too. Thanks for your design and sharing.
I have watched a lot of these makita fence upgrade videos but this is by far the best and the one I will follow. It's crazy makita doesn't include something so sturdy and simple like this.
@@jbrizzle4725 i agree with fhat but my construction team find it quite adequate as it was for rough cutting. Makita's bandsaw suffers the same weak fence. It seems that this is a blindspot for Makita.
Thank you Tarlochan. This is by far the best solution to a common problem with these saws. If I can locate the aluminium profiles I will modify my saw in the same way you have demonstrated.
Just changed the fence on my Makita 1200f bandsaw to the same basic design as you used here on the MLT100, Tarlochan. Works brilliantly. And ive done somerhing similar with the flimsy mitre fence too using 20 x 80 aluminium profile in both cases.
This answers many questions and raises a few for me . I need to make this modification fit my Craftsman 113.27700 saw. Thank you for your excellent video.
Phenomenal video and work. Makita should hire you for fixing a massive design flaw. I upgraded my fence based on another video, but just saw your video and now I’m thinking of pursuing your solution.
A suitable solution to solve the perennial problem of the MLT100 fence. Thank you for sharing the procedure to fabricate and fit the new extruded aluminium fence.
@@TarlochanSingh Most welcome. I too have the same table saw and have been watching many UA-cam videos to find a suitable solution to rectify the fence problem. I am at the moment fabricating one using the threaded rod system. But hopefully, one day I can upgrade to your extruded aluminium design as I can see it's very robust.
@@sun57vin I agree with you, it's difficult to make rip cuts with the original fence and an upgrade is a must. Now after using my new fence, it feels so good to see accurate and controlled rip cuts, I also had to upgrade the Insert plates, blade adjustment/lifting lead screw system, make new guides for mitre fence and align the blade with the table, to make my table saw suitable for accurate cutting and repeatability. I will try posting videos for all the upgrades I made. Thanks
I like your solution better than all the rest I’ve seen. I’ve been cutting 1200x600x18mm sheets the standard fence is such a gamble every time - wastes a lot wood and time.
@@TarlochanSingh I have ordered the Aluminium today together with inserts and end caps. Not hard to find. I look forward to seeing your other improvements.
Top job. I never understood why Mikita didn't finish off the saw like you did. The wobble can be very annoying. I live in Ireland & trying to find the aluminium profile with the strips & ends will be difficult. But i have to say that's a cracking job... Big improvement, why they went cheap on the plastic fence & the guide bar i will never know...
I was undecided on a table saw. Watched a truckload of youtubes on the subject, decided to go with the markita as it was easier and cheaper to get from a local store. Its now 09/ 2022 and Markita seemed to have fixed the surface flatness somewhat (still not perfect however) and i figured after watching your video's i could upgrade the fence and make a zero clearance plate easy enough. I do think the 40 x 80 extrusion is a particularly elegant solution compared to the diy timber solution perhaps not as cheap, but each to their own solution i guess. 😀
Hi Tarlochan. I must admit that I’ve been fighting with a bloody Makita fence for a long time. It is a real crap and I could not make any sensible diy one. Your solution is by far the best. I finally have a solid fence done according to your tutorial. Thank you!
I had already commented that the conception was brilliant. Finally I did mine, with all the data you provided. It was excelent. Thank you again, Talochan Singh.
Many thanks this was just what I was looking for to make my Makita MLT100 Table saw better, I followed your almost the same way apart from use a 30 x 30mm extruded profile instead of using a 40 X 40mm that way I didn't have to do any alteration for it to fit flush, Also I noticed that my table saw sled didn't slide enough when I'd finished the work because the new end profile stopped it, so I simply using a grinder cut slots in the 30 x 30mm extruded profile so then the saw sled worked great, Once again thanks for a great video, this will make cutting perfect cuts so much easier
Great, Nice to know you could achieve it by using 3030 profile. also I just posted Part 2 of the same video to overcome the same problem you had with sled sliding. Thanks
@@NedswoodworksI have created a account, but not active after that. Will try understanding how it works :) May sound weird but have not been so active in social platform's.
I did this upgrade to my table saw. I got everything to fit right and it is a great improvement. The only issue I had was that the 40mm aluminium profile that I got in Australia has an extra lip in the slot which makes it only 8mm. I already had a 10mm hole in the fence and a 10mm bolt and didn't want any free play if I downsized to an 8mm bolt so I will lathe a groove at the bottom of the bolt shaft to let it fit in the slot and remain 10mm for the fence. Another difference was my 40mm t-slot accomodated the head of the 10mm bolt, so I did not have to grind it down.
When i saw the MLT10 in Makita Store i have notice that the original fence is bending, now I saw on how you upgrade and hope makita make the thing on how you upgrade hahaha nice one.
Awesome 👌 idea, the original fence was deleted from my saw first day....drove me nuts. I fabracobbled a "temporary" upgrade on site with a 2" x 2" aluminium box profile which sort of worked but the rear fence clamp was done with small quick clamp, and is tedious when adjusting. Thanks for a clear, concise video for guidance. This will be a added to my saw very soon 👍

Hey Tarlochan, Great video and very informative. You have included the material list but you have not provided a link from where we can buy these materials. Where do you get your supplies?
Why did you drill holes for the screws in the rear ALU profile? I have a back piece on this MLT100 saw made from a similar ALU profile, and I attached it by putting screw heads in the groove, threading through the drilled hole, and putting a washer and anti-play nuts on the back.
