Holy God. I just listened to The Robert Shaw Chorale performing Britten on estate sale vinyl. Was going to comment on the excellence of the Gary tune, and now you've mentioned the standard to which I was going to compare favorably.
Husband, Hana and Mark King's Wide Awake Running is my favorite crank-in-the-car track of this century.

Thank you so much to Andy and your kind words, and all the supportive comments below this video. I share Andy's sentiment's regarding the homogenized sound of todays so called "Jazz Fusion" It lacks changes, dynamics and exploration into new realms of a boundless universe of notes, musical ideas and sounds.
Todays jazz musicians seem to play as if they are being rated, watched, examined and liked or disliked (thumbs up or down). It's the result of the online internet yearning to be accepted. My concept for this album, was to come out with music that shatters that blandness that seems to just want to showcase technique, and cloned Holdsworth sounds and riffs by schooled jazz students.
When Dean Brown and I discussed the concept of this album, he said "Let's time travel back to the jazz-rock period of 1970 to 1975, and create something that will re-inspire and channel the vibe and explorational tides of those days, with your songs and guitar playing. Use little or no effects on your guitar or amp. Just crank it with some distortion and go for it."
He also said "No one will hear this album anyway, so lets do what emotes from the soul not the head"
Dean, as my producer, told me "practice with the tracks and come up with new lexicons, and when I solo, to be melodic and flowing, and play like your pants are on fire. Leave no prisoners."
I practiced with the tracks Gary and Hadrien laid out as he instructed, but as he also instructed, I left all the practicing ideas outside the studio, and I played in the moment, to Gary and Hadrien's story that they committed to tape.
I had expressed to Dean, my ideas about my wanting to format the songs like an orchestra, with ups and downs, subtleties and brash in your face changes that would grab the listeners and take them on a journey, from the first to last song, that will leave the in an exhausted state of euphoric bliss, and joyful contentment.
I think we accomplished these concepts, with the two great musicians, Gary Husband and Hadrien Feraud steering the journey with their amazing story telling, and constant and everchanging phrases and musical ideas on each and every bar. There are literally no repetitive notes, phrases, rhythms played the same way on any of the songs, from one bar to the next. That kind of creativity is rarely recorded and captured like it is on this album.
I know Dean would be very proud of this body of work.
Thank you to everyone's commitment to make this album what it is.
    James

Andy, thank you so much for highlighting this album! I knew within three bars that I had to have it. It has been ordered. James Morgan is brilliant. Gary Husband (privileged to see him live with John McLaughlin) and Hadrien Feraud are just spectacular! What a great way to remember Dean Brown. It is good to know someone is still carrying the jazz rock torch. Keep it burning!

I won't argue that for a minute as far as I know neither one is a jazz pianist but I do believe they have a more widespread popularity which also gives them a greater amount of influence but yes Jazz musicians are technically Superior put sometimes I just want to rock and that's why Rory Gallagher stands at the top of the heat kicking everybody else down the hill

Billy Joel has some self-composed classical piano pieces.
If he hadn't been busy with his "Piano Man" career, which also made him one of the most successfull American soloists (140 mio record sales) he would have also managed a classical piano career.
Joel's technical skills are beyond any doubt.

I would have bought this amazing album were it not for the $30 postage! Who do they think I am, Roger Waters?

    • @ghostjazztrio
      @ghostjazztrio 4 місяці тому

It's $30 for international shipping for the cheapest rate, and generally $8 to $9 in the US. There have been many sales internationally to those that must have a physical CD. You can purchase the digital and burn it to a CD yourself as another option. USPS and UPS sets the rate, not the sender.

It has been demonetised. The other day a video got demonetised for a few seconds of a silent screen grab of Hendrix at Isle of Wight which I put a ton of effects on.

Hey everyone. The rate to ship the physical CD internationally is $30 USD, and around $8 to $9 to whip within the US. That's the cheapest USPS rate. They have been selling despite the exorbitant rate they charge.
