I have decided to lock myself in each region of runescape for 24 hours and progress my account and bank as far as possible. At the end of those 24 hours, I take on the hardest PVM content I have access to in that area, and if I lose, I drop everything I gathered in that region and start over again from scratch in the next region. I’ve implemented some rules to make this series harder than what it already is. I won’t be using tick manipulation in any way. I really want my supplies to matter on the way to my goal, so tick eating and prayer flicking will not be allowed until I reach my goal and will only be allowed while attempting the final challenge of the series. I’ll also be implementing a simple milestone system. Once I survive a region, I permanently unlock the ability to keep 1 item if I wipe. This will be multiplicative and will allow me to continue to progress the series at a healthy pace, but failing a region is still incredibly detrimental. Now you might be asking, what’s the end goal and to that I say… the infernal cape. I’ve never attempted this before, and I want to challenge myself in a way I never have with this series. I know Zuk is the hardest PVM content in the game right now, so that’s why I made it the end goal. This means that If I roll Karamja, Zuk won’t be required. Zuk will be immediately unlocked once I successfully complete all 10 regions in a row without failing and will be immediately challenged and if I fail, I start all over again. Regions will be selected at random (except at account creation, the first region will be Misthalin). I’ve also made a rule that once an area has been completed, it cannot be randomly selected again until I die. This stops randomly rolling easy areas with easier PVM content and stacking up permanent unlocks. If you all have any questions or think this is a hype idea, drop a comment or like!
I think it makes sense to roll the next region at the end of the episode since it helps build excitement about what's going to happen next, and you do a recap anyway so it shouldn't hurt the fluidity.
Appreciate the answer!
Literally this
i like the idea of getting to theorycraft by myself between episodes, so roll at the end!
Appreciate the answer!
Another great episode! My suggestion for your question today is to roll the chunk at the end of the episode and also say what the bosses are in that region so we know what the possibilities are without fully spoiling the next episode. I agree with the other commenters who enjoy theory crafting between episodes, and personally I just don't know what region all the bosses are technically in, so it would be helpful if you pointed those out so I know what to theory craft about! Looking forward to the next ep :D
Appreciate the answer, makes a lot of sense!
Loving the series!
I think it's a good idea to roll the new area at the end of the video, it will keep people invested in between episodes, speculating what you might get up to.
Appreciate the answer!
I don't think it makes sense to lock this region's bosses behind slayer, and even if you did have the level you would be entirely dependent on having the task in order to kill them, not the mention the absurd amount of time 87 slayer would take to get on this type of account.
So here's my idea here: make the boss of the region Glough, monkey madness 2 is much more realistic than 87 slayer and doesn't require a task. You can refight him in zooknock's house post quest (the first time you beat him in the quest can count as a region clear for that week.)
If doing this proves to be unrealistic as well (69 slayer is also very difficult on this type of account) then you could make kandarin a wild card region, where you roll a boss from ANY REGION randomly, but can only prepare to fight it within Kandarin, and in no way benefit from the region the boss is located in.
Just some ideas. Or just tell jagex to give kandarin more bosses lmao
I just genuinely think what I came up with is a lot easier to understand and more fluid for the account, but I definitely appreciate the well thought out response!
@@TheOSRSDream for the early game yeah I definitely agree, no reason to punish yourself for not beating a boss you can’t even fight. Ultimately it’s up to you what you do, I’ll watch the series regardless. And now that I think about it, 87 slayer MIGHT be possible if you roll wilderness a lot and focus slayer entirely when you’re there (granted you allow krystilia) just it’s gonna suck if you can’t complete the region in the late game due to not being able to get a task.
Yea, the rule will still stay in effect for that too, if I physically can't get to the boss because it's locked behind a slayer task it won't be a fail, will just be like how I handled it this time 😁
I love seeing your adaptability to suggestions and willingness to grind the game. Great series!!!
Appreciate the support!
I have an idea for when you complete a region. Instead of unlocking one item, you unlock one permanent bankslot instad. That way you can save quest items from region to region, and free up the spot after you finished the quest :)
You don't need a yew shortbow for Temple of Ikov. It is sufficient to wear the ice arrows and attack them with any ranged weapon. Knives can damage the monster as long as you carry ice arrows.
Good to know!
Let’s go! Favorite UA-cam series rn. Just became a member! Keep up the good videos man!
Truly appreciate the support and becoming a member!!
i'm of two minds with the roll, on the one hand having it be at the start is like starting up a new game, on the other having it be at the end gives some connection between episodes, and i'm not sure what i prefer, i see the appeal of both
Appreciate the answer!
What about trying to run Barbarian Assault to kill the penance queen? Play it with randoms, and if at any point you and your team loses a wave, you wipe and reroll.
Absolutely not lol, this leaves too many variables open like someone purposely throwing the wave to grief me. Also it's a minigame, not a boss.
You can buy feathers from the fishing shop in Witchaven for future use.
Didn't even realize there was a shop there 🤣
definitely roll the next region at the end of the episode! there are a lot of benefits that come with it such as:
- makes people look forward to the next episode and actively hyped for it (suspense)
- helps people keep track of which epside they watched last.. maybe I wont remember that I watched episode 5 last but I WILL remember that the next episode is _____ region
- lets people brainstorm together as to what will happen next episode (could help create a community)
Appreciate the answer!
I sort of like the idea of the Mithril Dragon being your "boss" before you have access to a real boss in the region, but maybe not be able to unlock more than one gear slot EVER from fighting it. So if you somehow managed to kill one this episode (lol), you'd get an item keep unlock, but next time you rolled the region, killing one would not give you a second keep slot.
That way there is a clear fail condition, instead of the region being an auto-pass before late game.
Totally understand that but roguelikes have free pass paths on the way to the boss so just think of this as the free path!
I know I'm late to this series by a few months and perhaps this gets talked about later in the series - but if you're going to start just rolling for a boss in the region for the final challenge, I think the kandarin region should just have the list be ALL bosses, that way you still have a boss to roll. I think it's similar to a roguelike.. kind of like a "special" level that gives you an opportunity to roll any boss. Just a suggestion and that way we still have a challenge at the end.
fun fact: you technically could have gotten the contruction level for tower of life through repairing the boat on fishing trawler with swamp paste buyable from the khazard general store. wouldnt be worth it probably, but you *COULD* have done it is all im saying haha
I've done trawler a lot and I don't remember it giving con exp haha. I'll have to check into that, but if I don't remember it must be so incredibly low it wouldn't have been worth it like you said.
@@TheOSRSDreamI did forget, but you do need a POH to get the xp, but yeah, its ONLY from repairing the leaks and fixing the broken railing, you get 5 and 10 xp respectively for each action.
Ahhhh I do recall getting some from the railings haha. Yea that woukd be so slow 🤣😅
To speed up mining essence you can use a tick manip 1 tile away so that you walk up and get a double roll (you can do this with a log and tinderbox but there are other methods as well).
You'd get double the runes each time and it would take fewer ticks each time as well (compared to a bronze pickaxe).
Tick manipulation is not allowed in the series unless I'm fighting Zuk.
@@TheOSRSDream Forgot. You could double roll without faster mining speeds by starting mining and then walking up on the tick you'll mine, up to you if that's also a tick manip.
You you can use the choc cake thirds on each other to make it into a full choc cake, it heals more hp per bite, this works with pzzas and pies too i think
Temple of Ikov doesn’t actually require a yew bow. You can equip an ice arrow and use knives or darts to kill the dude.
Honestly didn't know that haha
Agree with all the others about rolling regions at the end of the episode! What's the plan for quests that involve multiple regions (i.e. eagle's peak, hand in the sand, etc.)? Can you do a quest if you have rolled all applicable regions in a "streak," or are you not permitting yourself to backtrack for quests, specifically?
I'm just doing the steps I can in the area I'm in. Eventually we will complete the quests once we visit the regions again :)
Apparently not my boy Salarin being ignored
I spent 24 hours killing him in my only chests account haha. He isn't classified as a boss unfortunately.
@@TheOSRSDream Wait, who told you that? He's a uniquely named NPC at the bottom of his own dungeon, where he is the most fearsome monster and the only one who cannot be slain using normal weaponry. He can be, and is, killed repeatedly for his valuable loot and chance of an item unique to his drop table. This is exactly what it means to be a boss.
Saying that Salarin isn't one would be like if Chronozon had his own boss lair, a bunch of different possible drops, and a unique item that made him worthwhile to kill in bulk... and then someone tried to claim that wasn't a boss. Do you just mean that when the newfangled cheevo system was added, Jagex never bothered to put in a "yay, you killed Salarin ten times" entry in that list?
@DZ-X3 🤣🤣🤣 I love some good fuckinf satire
Ardy rat pits should be the Kandarin boss lol
🤣🤣 the true boss of the series hahaha
I am tied. On one hand it would be neat to theorycraft my own path and see if anything lines up with what you end up doing; but on the other hand I like not knowing.
Appreciate the answer!
I definitely think you should reveal the next region at the end of the episode. Makes for an exciting cliffhanger!
Appreciate the answer!
I think rolling the chunk at the end seems really interesting
Appreciate the answer!
Roll at the end is nice , i feel like it helps theory crafting in the comments or discord :)
Appreciate the answer!
You can consider hopping to a PvP world, if you can kill another player (so no bot hunting) you can lock in an item. Or you could roll a random boss from another region at the start.
Appreciate the answer! I just dont feel like these fit the theme of the series unfortunately.
what if you determine the boss you need to fight by the highest combat level in the region? or like highest combat level npc you have access too? throwback to old times when combat level meant everything
edit: just finished watching the episode, I think the bosses would essentially be just as easy as killing a mithril dragon.. I think you should be able to progress by killing a mithril dragon but cant unlock an item slot until you defeat thermy with the slayer requirement
Typically that's how it works, but it felt so wrong justifying unlocking a permanent item if I beat a mithril dragon for this region because it's going to take an incredibly long time to get to 87 slayer for the actual boss in this region. I'd rather keep the integrity of making items truly from boss kills and just complete the region to keep the series going.
@@TheOSRSDream sorry I just edited my comment, it would have been really fun seeing how you would fight a mithril dragon this episode, like maybe if you could flinch it or if you would run out of time before killing it like giant mole, or if another dragon would kill you as you are flinching it xD
It pretty much would have been exactly that haha, just waiting out the aggression timer and trying to flinch it. Just felt super cheap and with it not being a boss it didnt feel right.
I guess Barbarian Assault isn't really a boss but still would be kinda fun to see in welfare gear. As for the rules for this region, I feel like not having the Slayer level actually means you lost the region or shouldn't have been able to roll it to begin with? Or maybe it should be combined with another region? I'm not normally an advocate for the harshest interpretation of the rules but in the spirit of the series it seems a little bit cheap to start the next region with the loot (including a rune scim) from a region where you didn't have to fight anything. I figured you were going to take that stance so I was a little surprised. Anyway that being said I definitely think rolling at the end of the episode would be cool, kinda building up hype for the next one and then episodes can jump right into it at the start.
If I failed the region because I dont have 87 slayer the series would take years to even get to a zuk attempt. It didn't make sense to exclude the region as it has a lot to offer and if I just auto fail that's not a very viewer friendly experience either. There's not point in watching the series until I get 87 slayer at that point since we know I won't get to attempt zuk until then.
Hey, do you think there would be value in a RuneLite plugin for your new roguelike game mode? I was thinking it might be fun to make something for a side project, but I wanted to ask the person with firsthand experience before jumping into anything 🙂
I was thinking it could make sure to grey out areas that you can’t access, handle rolling regions and bosses, etc.
Yea that would be super useful for the community! I know I've had a lot of people contact me asking how to play haha.
Great series. I know it's not exactly around the corner, but what's your plan for situations like Monkey Madness 2 that require 2 regions unlocked at the same time (Kandarin and Asgarnia in this case)?
That's just a quest that will take awhile to complete unfortunately haha. Just do all the steps in each region each time I roll that region.
@@TheOSRSDream The issue with MM2 is that it requires unlocking the balloon in Tree Gnome Stronghold, which requires you to go from Entrana to TGS via balloon.
Another one would be Fairy Tale part 2, where you need to hop all over the world via fairy rings, and I'm sure you are not going to wait 24 hours on a tiny little island.
No haha, I wouldn't wait 24 hours on a tiny island. FTP2 is a special case because it's forcing a teleport for quest progression, so this wouldn't force me to wait.
I prefer the series how it is. I like looking forward to what you roll at the beginning, feels right to me
Appreciate the answer!
Yoy don't need a yew bow for Temple of Ikov, you can just use knives. The limpwurt roots might be a bit harder.
are skilling bosses included in this roguelike? I'd argue the chaos druid boss in Yanille is an "agility" boss seeing the requirements to get him. He's a boss on the wiki too
His wiki page didn't list him as a boss when i looked nor did the Trailblazer region recap that the team provided everyone for last leagues. Skilling bosses are included, but his page said he's just chaos druid lol.
Old wiki info strikes again! It hassince been updated after JoshIsntGaming's yanille chunk video on the subject. Salarin used to be considered a boss, but I get how the term has changed since say.. 2002@@TheOSRSDream
Was just trying to think of another way you could complete the region, but getting 82 agility and casting fire strike would have been... anticlimactic anyway
Totally understand my dude haha. I definitely remember him being a boss from before, but I double checked and rip to him 🤣
For questing, why not start quests even if you can't finish them in the region. That way when you eventually get to the other regions needed you can progress them while you're there and then maybe eventually finish them depending on how you roll. Personally I think it would be interesting to have that sort of method of progressing but maybe you feel like it goes too much against the roguelike spirit.
This is exactly what I did haha.
Some real steady xp progress!
Definitely! Especially with how much time I spent questing!
Looking forward to where you go next
Appreciate the support!
I know its a little late but i feel that for this region the pest queen should be the boss until you meet the slayer req or get to glough in mm2
I definitely understand this but it opens too many variables such as having to rely on 4 other people and if any of them purposefully griefs me it doesn't make for a good viewer experience or play experience.
Salarin the Twisted is the boss
He is not considered a boss through our criteria or on wiki haha.
Ooh I like that one! He should definitely count as a boss.
I'm not really bothered either way of when you roll, but I do think that if you roll for the next are you shouldn't talk about the content/ unlocks/ skilling there till the episode where you actually go there.
That way people can still suggest/ talk about the options, but it keeps the region itself contained to that episode
Appreciate the answer! If I were to start doing it at the end this is exactly how I'd handle it, just show it off and let people theory craft!
Yeah show us the roll at the end my man!
Appreciate the answer!
Just starting the episode and I know it wont be useful right now since you're done the region this week but... Unless they patched Temple of Ikov in the last year, you don't need the bow. If you make knives and equip the ice arrows it'll still count as using ice arrows for that little demi boss in the quest.
Honestly had no idea you could do that haha
@@TheOSRSDream It's a relic of Jamflex's spaghetti code! I think it's something Rendi covered one time, but I don't know who discovered it first.
Doesn't shock that he has covered it haha. What a mad man he is!
Would like to see the roll at the end, and have it covered again at the beginning.
Appreciate the answer!
I love these episodes, but I forget that you are called "the osrs dream" so I always glance over it in my feed. Its not my place but I consider some rebranding or minimum a "hello its the osrs dream" intro. Im thinking im not alone. I dont know some food for thought :)
I always felt like the channel name wasn't critically important, it's mentioned here and there but I understand what you mean!
Cool channel should have more subs
Appreciate the support!
I like the end of episode!
Thanks!!
I guess Salarin the Twisted is a joke to you.
The team and wiki doesn't have him as a boss, so yes lol.
@@TheOSRSDream fair enough. Anyway, roll varlamore separate. Misthalin and asgarnia are the same continent different regions.
How would you even kill mithril dragons with this account?
Keep the anti fire shield and prayer. Isn't not terribly difficult tbh, just like irons or steels using range.
Mith dragon might be harder than kraken unironically lol
You might be correct 🤣🤣
I understand not wanting to sub out the bosses, but it does also feel kinda anticlimactic to have Essentially a "free space" that lets you gear up worry free
My thought process is that there are paths in roguelikes like this though, and since I'm not unlocking a permanent item through clearing the region it feels like the best and simplest solution.
i understand your thought process, and don't even necessarily disagree with it, just pointing out that there wasn't really any tension in the video, which feels like a contrast to the other areas
Yea, definitely understand tbh. This should be the only region like this thankfully.
Why was the left side messed up between 4:38 and 7:55?
Took me a bit to figure out what you meant, honestly no idea. Streamlabs always has something going wrong with it seems unfortunately. I test my audio everyday because it randomly artifacts and I don't enjoy doing voiceovers, usually when I catch it I don't remember what I was talking about in the clip. Since this was just 1 clip I'm guessing something happened with it. Tbh wouldn't be able to fix that issue anyway haha.
@@TheOSRSDreamIs streamlabs like OBS? If so, is there something that you can't do on OBS?
Streamlabs is obs
@@TheOSRSDream Looked it up, it's a controversial fork of OBS that has some extra tools
OMG!!! ANOTHER ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
😁❤️
Yeah roll the next region at the end of the episode and if u have a quest on item like bar crawl card keep on wipe. Idk if u addressed that or not
We started doing this!
Already plenty of people saying to roll it at the end and I agree, just writing this comment for the algorithm
Appreciate the answer!
Pretty sure there is a boss an the end of the yannile dungeon
Salarin isn't a boss, just an upgraded chaos druid. His page doesn't even classify him as a boss.
Why not barbarian assault?
It's a minigame, not a boss.
this has to be one of my favorite snowflakes
Appreciate the support!
There is also a boss in the yanile dungeon
Salarin the twisted isn't a boss, just a chaos druid according to his page and the runescape team.
@@TheOSRSDream my bad. I was just remembering from when Josh from Joshisntgaming refereed to him as “RuneScapes forgotten boss” during his concurrent yanile one chunk Ironman.
All good man! He used to be a Boss, but not anymore unfortunately haha
Is the boss of this region going to end up being Salarin the Twisted?
Nah, he's not a boss haha. Just an elder chaos druid 😅
@@TheOSRSDream he was a boss back in the day when he came out but he's definitely a huge push over now that runes are easily available and his mechanics are easy to find. He would definitely be too easy now to be considered a boss.
Yea haha, i do like that he can only be hurt with strike spells. Interesting mechanic haha.
should roll from all the regions for a boss if you get a region with no boss
I understand this viewpoint, but every roguelike has a free path so this will be ours.
Its funny you dont think mithril dragons should count since theyre not a boss; when mithril dragons are unironically more difficult than kraken, lmao
It's not just me, it's the creators of runescape haha. I'm just going off what they've provided!
first :D
