What a beautiful song about being young and growing older and how things change. This song, to me, is one of their very best songs.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Bee Gees forever.
Barry was singing but the videos showed them as kids in Australia and then Barry singing the song in the late 60s. Which was neat. Miss Mo and Robin and Andy, but at least we still have Barry with us which is a blessing.
One of my favorite lyrics ever.. "when I was small and Christmas trees were tall". Gosh, was a lyric ever more true. Little Chuck was staring up at the magnificent Christmas tree in the early 60s, thinking surely this must be the most elegant, beautiful tree ever. I wanted to climb inside it and be lost in a Christmas fantasy. Now, I am an old man and it is true, Christmas trees are small. They are still beautiful, but the innocence, youthful fantasies and dreams, are all gone. The world is smaller. But what a spot-on, magnificent song.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Siggghh.
"Their music is here, and it will be here forever." Great line. This is my fav song from BG's, for personal and emotional reasons. Thank you so much for bring it to your channel. Peace.
I have always loved the Bee Gees, I have been blessed to have lived through their career right from the mid-sixties thru to when the end came, so talented, and you are right about being in the top three for writing songs, they rarely put a foot wrong with their haunting melodies and wonderful lyrics !
Very sweet - Barry & Robin Gibb. Barry wrote the song. Lulu was the ex wife of Maurice. They later sang it together at the piano. She may have recorded it also. Jose Feliciano did a beautiful version. I think Barry said he wrote the song about his dog who had passed away but was born on May 1. I get it. There’s just something about a dog.
I have always found this song to be so emotional. Seeing the clothes, the cars, and the youthful voices of the Bee Gees, draws on your childhood experiences and memories. The instruments add a wonderful quality to this song. So beautiful. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Brandon. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I remember this song off their "Odessa" album. It was used very sweetly in the British film "Melody". In fact, a few of the songs off "Odessa" ended up in that film.
I have been a BeeGee’s fan forever. The songs and Lyrics they wrote are Genius. Know why they were inducted into the Song Writers Hall Of Fame. There’s a video of Maurice and his ex wife Lou Lou singing it
I remember listening to this from my brother’s Best if Bee Gees album around 1971 or 72. Loved it then and still love it as you can feel their emotions coming through!
"First of May" is the song that broke up the Bee Gees for two years, as Barry and Robin were at loggerheads regarding whether this Barry song or Robin's "Lamplight" should be the first single released from the double album "Odessa." Robin left the group and recorded the album "Robin's Reign," featuring the #2 single "Saved by the Bell," which was only kept out of the #1 slot by the Rolling Stones' "Honky Tonk Women." Maurice stuck with Barry and recorded the album and TV Spectacular "Cucumber Castle." After a cooling off period, the brothers reunited to record the album "Two Years On" and the hit single "Lonely Days," as well as the album "Trafalgar" and the No. 1 standard, "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart." Around this time Barry received an offer to play the Jesus lead in "Jesus Christ Superstar," which was being produced by their manager, Robert Stigwood. However, Barry did not wish to again break up the Bothers Gibb, and turned down the offer. Stigwood then turned to Deep Purple's Ian Gillan, who did a incredible job in that role. But Barry would also have made a tremendous musical Jesus, as in that department he practically walks on water anyway.
You forget that "first of may" Is the first song of movie MELODY ( 1971, DIR. ALAN PARKER)...and all the songs are theirs.... Isn''t a movie only for children. Is a true gen!!! 💎💎💎...1st of May Is the birthday of one BARRY'S dog
The preference for Barry of the managers, hurted Robin..they were teenagers and Robin" s talent Is very big...but his appearance were a "plus" over the twins .. and he was obsessed with this role...the "sexy Man" for atract fans and sales, además de su talento. Bussines are bussines, Robin had reason about this preference. I think that the Bee Gees were THE BEE GEES, TOGETHER....MAURICE WAS. INDISPENSABLE AND ROBIN A INCREDIBLE VOICE AND PERSONNALITY...SAME MO ..
You reacted to Lulu and Mo singing this song together on her "An Audience with Lulu." This is from 1969's Odessa album. It's a beautiful song. With the film you are seeing of Barry and Robin as kids, it evokes growing up. For me, when I heard Lulu and Mo sing it, it felt like growing apart. They were geniuses at putting lyrics together that were relatable on more than one level.
I do not understand, this is the original version. But I know and found this TV thing with Lulu, 2 years ago. And that live version with Mo and his former wife Lulu was so sweet, lovely and touching, you could still see a bit love in their eyes, I guess another react to for Harri ?
@@clannad99germany70 The song was written and performed by the Bee Gees in 1969. It was on their Odessa album. That is what this reaction is to. Also, Harri has already reacted to a different performance of the same song with Lulu and Mo. Lulu invited him to sing it with her on the TV special "An Audience with Lulu." The show aired in 2002. Sadly, Mo left us in 2003.
There is an utterly charming British movie called Melody. All the songs, but one, were the soundtrack, including this one. The other song was Teach Your Children Well by Crosby, stills, Nash & Young. Definitely worth a watch. It starred Mark Lester & Jack Wild. ❤️🇨🇦
The miracle of Barry Gibb, who nearly died as a child and did not speak for two years after that then grew up to be one of the most loved singers and songwriters in the world. God's hand is definitely in his life.
Some of the Bee Gee’s top hits were written in a day. They are not just the kings of harmony but genius songwriters. People call them Disco but they are much more than that. Also check out their youngest brother, Andy Gibb. He was too young to be part of The Bee Gees but has a brief solo career before tragically dying young. Shadow Dancing and I Just Want to Be Your Everything are amazing and his brothers are background singers. 🔥
In the 60s was the Bee Gees first fame. They were so very good in the 60s. I didnt care for their disco 70s fame. They had a handful of good songs later on but nothing compared to when they first started.
Started to buy their albums when they were in their early days. Still have their vinyl originals. Suggest you review Jive Talking if you have not yet done so. Words is a beautiful ballad that showcases their vocals beautifully
Musician songwriters. Beatles, Stevie Wonder (You can flip those two) The Bee Gees then Prince. Many others but those stand out to me as the best. Kendrick Lamar needs more time to rank.
What a beautiful song about being young and growing older and how things change. This song, to me, is one of their very best songs.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Bee Gees forever.

Love the video celebrating the comraderie of brothers.
I must remember that only the good die young.....they leave here to go on.

I love BARRY'S gentle and passionate delivery of this song.
When you see videos from childhood of Bee Gees, its Barry and Robin on the photos, as Maurice was the camera man ❤
Yes, I was noticing the background thinking it had to be Australia. I saw a couple of Aussie cars.
Amazing Voices Amazing Song Amazing Bee Gees. I love it so much. 🕺🥰👍
Everything the Bee Gee’s touch turned to gold. They were both genius song writers and amazing performers. ❤️🔥🔥

Here is my second favorite Bee Gees song behing How Can You Mend a Broken Heart❤
My favorite group! ❤

PS, in the end we just must state, the Bee Gees were just incredible great song writer. On the top of all.
I had been hoping someone would react to this song on May 1st but no one did. This is close enough Harry, thank you. ❤❤❤
You’re right Harri easily in the top three songwriters of all time

I love the way they recorded his voice in this song. It sounds like your very own memory singing to you
Maurice sang it with Lulu, and it’s on UA-cam.
You are correct Harri. They were incredible.
Top 3 is a good shout. ✌️
This song always brings a tear to my eye, thanks for bringing it to my attention again Harri ❤
Harri ❤ Good memorie 😇 I requested this song done by Lulu and Maurice Gibb ❤️ Great reaction
Barry wrote this when he and his Brother weren’t talking. It hurt him deeply. Fortunately their breakup was short.
I remember this song off their "Odessa" album. It was used very sweetly in the British film "Melody". In fact, a few of the songs off "Odessa" ended up in that film.

First Of May was a soundtrack in the beautiful movie Melody about childhood innocent love. Mark Lester, Tracy Hyde and Jack Wild.

Brilliant from such a young age. It's stunning..
Mo Gibb used to be married to Lulu. She asked him to come sing this with her, he did. Look it up.
