- To celebrate 20 years of freedom for Huey, we reshot the entire movie and made a Hi Def version that had I had a video camera when I had Huey, would be more what I'd like to share. This version gives the viewer a better idea of the playfulness and the actual relationship one can have with a raven. This is a 720 version that's great for phones and pads, on our Vimeo channel we have an 1080 version if you want to watch it on a larger screen.

Please remember "Bob, Huey & Me" is intended to demonstrate how to get a baby raven too young to fly, ready for the wild, not how to make a raven a pet. It also demonstrates how God can sometimes surprise us in ways we never imagined, if we are willing to let Him.
To my offended crow lovers !
Please keep in mind this was a movie made for family and it is "old style" movie making where there has to be a villain somewhere in the story. I made the crow the villain simply because in our neck of the woods, thousands of crows will wake up an entire neighborhood at first light. So for many, the crow is already not their favorite. Hello Raven Diaries this was a beautiful story about your love of Ravens. I have a connection with them that goes back some years. They are such beautiful creatures and one of the most beautiful of God's creatures. God Bless you my friend 🙏🏽🛐🕊
I live in a small town in Sweden with around 1200 people in it. Only thing that sticks out in our small town is a giant silo. One time i heard raven calls from around the silo. I was quite far away from the silo but I watched one of our ravens that lives outside the town go round, round and round the top of the silo. Followed by probably 30 jackdaws for about 5-6 turns around the topp of the silo and then they switched turns and the raven was "chasing" the jackdaws. No divebombing, no territorial displays - Just playing for good fun. Ravens are really rare in my area and that was my best time watching a raven.

I had a Raven that visited me I named Felix... it ate Turkey from the store... and sat around my house. I hope my mom still feeds it now that I have left, it really was a good bird.

Good question and hard to answer, on the one hand I'd love the responsibility, on the other hand it is a big responsibility! But, fortunately life is full of surprises, so, who knows?

my dad who was a bushworker his whole life ...when he would come home on the weekends would sit at the entrance to our garage with the door open and talk to the crows who would sit on the telephone wires above and they would talk back to him, we lived across the street from a golf course so there were alot of them,unfortunatly my bedroom on the 2nd floor above the garage was right in line with these crows and they would wake me up everytime ,they drove me nuts ,and i grew to hate these vile creatures I TRULY HATED THEM....my dad developed cancer and died in 1986 at the age of 55 ,those crows still would come and wait for him ... I moved into my first house,about a year later, there was a crow that would sit on a tree outside my bedroom window and wake me up everyday it was th most strangest thing,and I couldnt believe it.then one day the thought came to me that that crow was my father....my dad loved animals and he was a trickster but he chose to come back as a crow to keep an eye on me and tease me.....I still dont like crows but thought I would tell this story.....

Poorly rook in cage for two weeks so after a day or two of calm UA-cam watching were watching ravens.......he's now calm watching....and I dare say less bored this evening.
(Wind,rain a wobble and a cat, what a night! and droopy wing..thankfully not broken but the unsteadyness is easing unlike his love of lamb)

I too have recently been interested in how life happened on earth. In fact human and ravens are the climax of intelligence of two big branches(sauropsida and synapsid)in evolution, and yet we can still have some good time with each other. Wow!

It’s almost as if every time they blink they’re actually taking a picture and storing it in their brain which is why they can recognize faces for years…perhaps some form of photographic memory for them? I’m sure I’m wrong but after seeing them blink it reminded me of a camera when taking a picture.
Interesting observation... II had to smile at this comment. It does indeed look like a camera shutter when they blink.

*Great video Rick...sent you an email awhile back not sure if you got it.....been pretty rough on my end lately....me and my dad got back from the lake Oct 28/19 and he was diagnosed with stomach cancer..and he passed away Jan 2 2020..just had the service and in the frame with his picture I put a Raven feather...he's now soaring with them. I appreciate that Leo, I really but you have to also realize, a part, a big part of the story is that it seems by all accounts it was God who brought them, both of them to me in the first place. He also seems to have answered some very specific questions I had.
Can I ask you what would you do if it happened to you? See to me, to leave that part out is to tell story that isn't really all that unique and significant.
@@theravendiaries Absolutely correct. Every time I have ever asked God a question, He has ALWAYS answered... and done so in an absolutely unequivocal, undeniable manner, that made it imposssible for me to dismiss. No human could come up with such absolutely brilliant ways in which to respond to these questions I posed-- very specific ones, at that.
You also may enjoy knowing that, in about ten minutes, I will be heading outdoors to meet my very dear male crow "friend", as I do every morning that I am able, and that I have known for about 20 years. Sometimes we sit together for quite awhile, just enjoying each others' company. I do feed him, and his companions as well sometimes, but usually he is not interested in food. We just like each others' company. He's the most loyal friend I have ever had, regrettably.
Also, you should know that this and your longer-form, one-hour-and-nineteen-minute video, are without a doubt the absolutely BEST documentaries I have seen, in my sixty years here on God's Great Earth. You sir, are without peer, in this category... And many others, clearly.
I would love to trade a few stories with you on our wonderful corvid friends. It's incredible how very similar your observations, with your raven companions, are to mine, with my crow companions. I must also confess that I have never heard anyone else, but you, relate to this world -- observationally, philosophically, theologically, etc. -- so closely as I do. Watching these documentaries made the hairs stand on end on my arms several times. Astounding. I don't know how many times I jumped up and exclaimed , "Yes! Yes! This man understands!". SO MANY smiles you brought me. Thank you so very much.
I do hope you see this comment. UA-cam does not like me... nor does the rest of this "Matrix". I can tell you also know how this is. It's unpleasant at times, to be sure... But I wouldn't have it any other way. That's when you know you're doing something right. It's a badge of honor in this world. (Although I don't like saying that because it does indeed sound prideful. And we know what comes after that, invariably, don't we?)

@@StellaLovesMusic25 I apologize for misunderstanding your statement and I understand your interpretation of Romans 14. However, many other interpretations do not restrict that doctrine to the newly converted alone but to all Christians. I am quite familiar with Saul of Tarsus and I'll spare you my hypothesis on his motivations as it would surely spark a feud that would be impossible to reconcile.
In my experience I noticed that mainly fools and egos overfilled with hubris wield inflexible judgement with certainty. Personally, I believe that judgement based on religious doctrine, scientific theories, political stance and philosophical reflections should always yield to universally recognizable virtues. Furthermore, those who choose the pursuit of those virtues, regardless of their beliefs, are able to admire and recognize that there is, as you so elegantly stated; "a beautiful order" in nature that we should all endeavour to sustain to the best of our limited abilities. Despite our conflicting interpretations and views I recognize and respect the sovereignty of your thoughts and beliefs and can only hope that you'll understand why your initial reply to

Glad you enjoyed it, and I never expect people to get the God bit. I know some people consider it "religious" I just find it pretty amazing I got questions answered in what I would consider a very non religious way.
@@theravendiaries We all have one path to walk but each must walk it in their own way. I'm not here to judge at all mate, you do you. It is a fantastic story and I admire your selflessness in raising Huey to be his natural self, not your pet. Actually getting to know my local raven pair and they've been bringing their new fledgling around since it left the nest so I can get to know him/her from young which I'm looking forward to and honored for the opportunity
Marvelous film. I am dumbfounded that people think science and a belief in God cannot be reconciled. I have an evangelical Christian friend who would not let her child learn evolution in high school (Texas). Just because this is a mechanism for change, how does this contradict God? Sorry that the mention of God bothers many people. I don’t bring it up to cause discomfort or dismay. Just a comment.
Great documentary, very informative, however what is ridiculous is that the narrator discounts factual answers from a metaphorical being.
Maybe get a degree or two in paleontology before you claim that evidence based scientific fact is false. Religion has no place in science and evolution. Thumbs up for the story, both thumbs down to the religious spews.
Well I don't need a degree to figure the math. 152 sq mile watershed, deposits 250,000 (average) to 480,000 (highest measured) cubic yards of sedimentary material every year, how long do you think low lying hills could do that? All I know is the the answer isn't 17 million. Nothing even close. So it made me look into the so called "evidence" and the scientific facts, and personally I found them more of an "elites" guessing game. Hah, time will tell, and by the way erosion is moving today, (up to 50 ft a year in some areas) I'm pretty confident my great grandfathers guesses were a bit off! Glad you enjoyed the story!😁
Here's a little more on the erosion stuff, and it's the raven's fault, they are the ones who drag me into these areas!
