The not being able to open an enemy armory thing is overall good direction, but it feels bad when you’re just goofing off with another crew or allianced with them and trying to help them out. Maybe there should be a timer when you board and after a minute you can open it? Or maybe have a lock picking mechanic?
I dare say and agree with my hubby that it'd be even more mischievous and hilarious to be able to lock your ammo box to only your crew! Id even pay a price similar to buying supply crates! I could hear the crying about it already, but it would further even the playing field, and increase actual weapon choice consideration/planning + less exploits like quick shooting, + increase actual pvp skills, instead of feeding cheap tricks of those who cant actually pvp, and simply depend on tricks like quickshot.
lol could you imagine how much more amplified this would be (planning and weapon choice) if you were allowed to say, pay to lock your ammo box to just your crew using it?
In game as im writing this, the harpoon can grapple onto any part of the sloop (except the mast) Not just the ladder However, from the water you cannot grapple onto the deck from anywhere, only the sides of the ship which will just drop you into the water again. I think it may be possible to shoot yourself from a cannon, then grapple onto the deck of the ship from above edit: the canopy cannot be grappled, and the railing Infront of the steering wheel also cannot be grappled
Maybe it's for just your ship? If you havent tested it on other ships yet, I would Edit: I just tested it, you can grapple to it, but it doesn't give you the jump. Grappling to it kinda just wastes a shot, unless the ship is stationary As for the cannon idea, I doubt they let you use the grappling hook for that specific purpose
I believe in their patch notes they say that you cannot grapple with HPG onto the deck of any ship, as the line will just snap. Furthermore, the grapple line is much shorter then the regular HP, so you have to really plan how you use it. You also can grapple onto the ship crest (at least as of today/day 1) and the inner walls, but not any kind of post, rail, or barrel. You can grapple onto a cannon and even both tables in the sloop captains room + the bird cadge, but not the captain room roof (but again you cant grapple to the top of it either) Also, it's hard to HPG someone onto the ship from the water, as when we tried, they just bounced off the ship edge, similarly to if you just grapple yourself on the outer ship hull
okay, wont lie on one thing. I think the free plunder pass is FAR Better than the premium. the amount of Ninja Themed cosmetics, like a katana cutlass skin or a kunai throwing knife, it all is uniquely well done and is a overall well connected set.
You can actually Grapple the inside of the Sloops' "railing" (the little 1 foot high wall surrounding the deck). It's hard to do, and can't be done from the water, but it's doable nonetheless.
4:44 I actually heavily disagree. I thin locking the armory is a great addition! Not only does it mean you have to actually think about your weapon selection, but now people cant cheese you by boarding, via harpoon or traditional means, killing you, and swapping their weapon while youre in the ferry to a combo that's more lethal. Makes you have to play more strategically--a change im more than happy to abide by.
@@haeclarkfine with it not one shotting but I think they should reduce the spread to what it used to be because I’m tired of two tapping someone and them not dying because only one pellet hits…
Funny thing btw, crouching reduces the size of your hitbox! But it reduces the hitbox that are bullets affected by. So crouching might be another way to dodge bullets!
Even though I'm hyped for this season, I hate how Rare are nerfing their own new tools just because of how easy anchoring a ship is. Grapple Gun is basically useless, same with Blow Darts. Nobody would choose one of these tools (I wouldn't call them weapons) over any other weapon except for commendations. The proper way to use them would be to add a "support" weapon. But boarding and anchoring an enemy ship while having 3 "weapons" would be too much of a threat (specially for new players). Removing the access of enemy ships' armoury is also a consequence of it. Same issue in season 12, we thought we would be able to board ships by harpooning enemy ships' masts, but we're not. Boarding by walking on a harpoon's rope is basically useless as of today. Just like how the Grapple Gun works. I hate the fact that some weapons/tools can only be either "fun" or "useful", why couldn't they be both? The issue is always the same, anchoring a ship is too easy, and so they're nerfing the full potential of their own new tools before they're even fun and useful because of it. If one day they make it more difficult to anchor either by making the "anchor interaction" longer or adding a specific animation that would stop the player anchoring from moving for a short period of time (like removing hooks/hatches holding the anchor), this would open field for so many new interesting way to play, and revaluate already released tools, but I feel like we're kind of stuck for now.
Got to say I completely disagree the grapple gun is through and through a movement item, I think it was made properly balanced, gallus still have a hard time at the back of the boat and other boats don't. I believe this is a fair and balanced way to make the harpoon gun viable in other ways then pvp
@@dricdroc4985 i found myself disagreeing with everything you said untill you mentioned the interaction for dropping the anchor. that would be a decent trade off. sloops dominate the seas. so grapple gun on eachother sloops is fair game. where becomes a game breaker is in larger crews hands who can now miss boards, and still get on. we have a gally crew last night trying to board with 3 players all using grappling gun! remember, all you need to do is get the anchor and make a nuisance of yourself till your mate on the ship pounds you into oblivion.
@@Pricks-d7d that's exactly it, sometimes people don't even play the "game", they just try to board again and again, they don't even care if they die, their goal is just to drop the anchor since it's so easy. Like as of now, you can literally eat, sword block, shoot, jump while dropping the anchor. And if you do, the other crew has to waste multiple seconds (if not minutes) trying to raise it. Something doesn't feel right with this imo
@@TheOreoMan73043but don't you think it's a waste of potential that harpoon and grapple gun aren't able to grab to masts and deck? How much more fun would it be to have these possibilities in the gameplay. Imo it just screams "it works this way because it wouldn't be fair as a game mechanic", and I don't feel like it fits well for a game like SoT
they added back quickswap(which is cool) and crud launch(alledgedly. Would be funny because they spent a whole update just trying to fix this shit and broke the game for a day lmao)
They did add back crud launch all you do is crouch, get in a cannon, and fire out. You have to be quick to shoot out AND make sure your on the left side of the boat. The right cannons don't work, I've found that the front left cannon on any boat is the best
If I crouch and chest hide, my mouse cursor no longer locks to my main monitor while playing in fullscreen.. have to restart the whole pc to fix it so I’ll try again next week after a patch. Also I agree that now that they changed the harpoon gun, they should revert the blunderbuss because their excuse was that it was because of how op the harpoon gun was going to be but it isn’t like that anymore
I expected rare to do something like locking armories on hostile ships, because if they didn't you could just use the grapple gun to board and then switch it for other armory as soon as you get on, which is not how you supposed to use the gun, as the whole point is that you trade firepower for greater mobility.
I think the army lock is good cause it forces people to make choices, also it allows future weapons to be balanced around this. Like we could finally have a heavy melee weapon like a hammer come to the game
I guess dmg breaks disquise, but why picking it up? It was the whole point, you sneak yourself somewhere, enemy players can pick you up and take you to their ship
I can do with or without blunderbuss one shot I just think either way they should reduce the spread… I’m tired of two tapping someone and them not dying because only one pellet hits due to the spread
Small thing of note from the Release Notes: Regular Storage Crates can now be sold at the Merchants & Reaper's Bones, either filled or empty. Hopefully this does not mean we won't be seeing Karem Crates anymore, but it does help to keep empty Storage Crates from just lying around, much like the Tridents back in the day.
That’s a good thing though I wished it required them to be empty just so the people logging off would have had to to leave them ah well at least collecting storage crates can get you something Elmore or otherwise
@@Theprince034 I disagree and think the reverse: you should get more the more its filled...I mean, unless they changed the price (didnt pay attention today/yesterday) its over 5k to buy an empty crate... Its rare anyway to find left behind/left over storage anything anymore anyway since they enabled the purchase of them. Its already no longer like before supply purchases.
@@haeclark Tbf it was rare in the first place anyways but aside from that due to the economy of SoT 5k isn’t much for most players who’ve played for awhile and grinded gold and such I understand that’s not everyone and such not to mention you could get lucky and find one on an island or through skellie captains if your really lucky

Also, it seems like supply crates is the thing I now get the most of via captain kills, followed by reaper chests and bombs
Honestly, i feel like they did too good a job with the grapple gun, since though its technically possible to grapple onto ships, its pretty hard and the gun's range isn't too big. Honestly, pretty good update so far.
just hopped on to check the grapple gun and the fact that you lose ammo when you miss your targets and the fact that it has close to no range is so bad.
This video is really helpful getting a lot of important information, I'm so glad they changed the harpoon to have specific conditions to hook onto ships. I have some questions though Can you be able to place traps on your ship, like next to the ladder? And with the chest of fortune changes, does the fortune cosmetic set change to a different one? I wanted to get the set but didn't end up so lucky fighting the burning blade and I'm hoping I didn't completely miss out.
i think poison dart should also add drunkeness effect, then it might be worth taking to a fight. i think the explosion dart should be a one hit kill if they dont put out the fire. besides that, i think rare did a fantastic job! I've been asking for more weapons for YEARS
On the contrary, if the explosive part of the dart gets buffed at all it might become the best weapon in the game, a person that had been running it as much as I can I think that they need to make the lure do direct damage(maybe like 40-50) make the poison dart either last longer or act quicker, and NOT change the explosive at all
Honestly I'm fine with pirates not being able to use an enemy's armory. it'll help against spawncamping and overall make fights less drawn out, which I appreciate. Also I wanna get my hands on that katana to embrace my inner weeb.
well they didnt have to release the season 3 weeks early(3 weeks left in the plunder pass before the s14 trailer) and checked for bugs @@melon_xkingttv6041
Personally I don’t think the armory being locked on enemy ships is a bad thing I’d hope it’s unlocked when allianced but it means boarders need to be smart and can’t just do what everyone was saying get the grapple, then board and change weapons and then proceed to attack the crew the only thing that would make boarding impossible is if rare decides for any reason to lock the ammo that would be the worst idea and should never come to fruition or the barrels for that matter I’ve seen some people ask for
My wife and I were playing with he new SoT toys yesterday, disguises work but your crewmates can see your name but they can also break the disguise like everyone else so you have to be careful they don't expose you while enemies are nearby. The blow dart is really good fun, it's slow to get the effect of the dart but great fun all the same. Grapple gun is great for sticky situations but I'm still not yet convinced of it's utility long term. Overall it's a good update and some fun to be had, will it help pick the game numbers up? I don't think so as a lot of these new toys rely on already understanding the existing mechanics and how best to utilise those first, then use the new toys.
As a person that has been using the plow pipe constantly, don't be using the poison part of that gun, it's way more effective to spam explosives everywhere
One thing i was looking forward too for the grapple gun was using em in shrines but when i tryed it in the Shrine of Hungering it didn't hook on to anything. Havent tryed to use it in the other shrines yet tho.
Love the sword from the new COF rewards, but it's still killing me that there's somehow NO jacket for the Fates of Fortune set. I am NOT wearing the dress.
grapple gun has knocked the balance out. any half decent gally or brig crew against a good sloop crew will now highly likely board. they can now miss a board by quite abit and still board. bring back one blunder and make the sloop the quickest boat in all directions. sloops dominate the servers numbers wise..so sloop on sloop won't matter. but agaisnt larger crews who hold every other advantage possible it's a game changer
Grapple gun right now is unuseble piece of garbage which only works on galleons and people like you made it news double barrel aka piece of trash that will to on armory
I've got to agree with the other guy hear the grapple gun is not good. And as for the other part of this comment involving ship speed. It has got to be the worst take I have ever heard. Each boat had a distinct advantage when it comes to having wind. The sloop is fastest going directly into wind. Brig is fastest in cross wind, and gally is fastest with wind. This let's people both chase and run from other pirates if they know what they are doing.
@@TheOreoMan73043 i have no idea what the other guy was banging on about. Most people know about directional speeds. my point being, the grapple gus has now knocked the balance of gameplay out of wack. larger crews can now afford to miss hugely and still get on with the grapple gun. gally for example. we was getting 3 players all trying to get the board using the gun. few times they were successful. if your solo, which statically most sloops are on the seas this is going to be a game changer for them. hence my ship speed suggestion or at least let it manoeuvre quicker. we have chased brigs and galleys ( weren't great crews but still had every other statistical advantage and this was before the grapple gun) they would just use their speed advantage to get away. sloops dominate the seas so a speed change or a turning speed change wont matter in sloop on sloop, but it will matter when coming up against larger crews who have every other advantage. that is what i meant. It's all pointless anyway. shit loads of bugs again and hitreg is an all time high.
My thoughts on the harpoon gun, delete it entirely, revert the blunderbus to its prior damage, unlock armories again. They changed a lot just for the harpoon gun and I don’t think it was worth it or a good move at all
@@decepticonsoundwave297 it is nowhere near fun, it has close to no range, 5 ammo which of you can lose ammo when you miss your targets and in conclusion it is absolutely useless as of now
The things in this season would be really exciting and cool! ...if they worked properly, the cosmetics are cool but this has to be one of the shakiest launches of a season we've had
The old barrel emote got removed? I still got it. Lmao The locked armory is actually more beneficial than it is detrimental. It obviously discourages spawn trapping and encourages you to use strategy.
Do not bring back one shot blunderbuss please 😭 I’m begging. Sure in normal combat I didn’t mind it but with the amount of laggy, teleporting pirates on the seas it was just straight up not fun. Someone could be on the other side of the deck on moment, tp forward a bit and blow you away without you getting a chance to do anything about it. As for the enemy armory being locked i think it would have been a good change if the grapple gun was actually a good boarding tool. I think they realised that if you had something to easily board with it should have MAJOR downsides. Because if this thing allowed you to easily grapple on a ship, then you could switch it out in the enemy armory it would have been mega annoying to deal with
Dude same here I love sitting in the water spamming explosives that HIT THRU WALLS AND FLOORS. From in front of their boat where is basically a one way angle bc of the drop off
its officialy the season "dont be a sloop" cuz with the new harpoongun brig and galeon will have a breeze to board you, and boi do they have it easy when they board you already
I disagree about 1 shot for BB. BB should have never, and never again should be 1 shot, honestly. 1 shot is only for those who are poor at pvp and need a crutch. I also love the idea about the armory being locked, and further increase upon that by saying they should also enable to ability to pay the shipwrite to make the ammo create locked to all but your crew! THAT would be ultimate mischievous addition!
Ok a few things here, first the blunderbuss. It is a shotgun, if I shove it down your throat as you clime my ladder I think you should die. Alternatively if they want to keep out one shots, give it a tighter pellet spread and reduce its knockback. As for the army being locked I think it's a ok change, I really don't care about it tbh. And as for your last suggestion, I think it is probably the single worst take I have ever heard under any sea of thieves related media
The armory change is MUCH needed. Easy grapple and then they can switch to their meta load out? No, you use the boarding tool or you go with your meta load out, you shouldn’t be able to change it.
uhhh but there isn’t anything crazy that’s happened yet - unless you count the colossal miscalculation on Rare’s part. Why did they bring the season forward two weeks when it’s not even ready? Also the grapple gun can’t be used everywhere on the brigantine, only the galleon!
The harpoon gun is straight up garbage, the range is nothing, and you can still harpoon onto the deck of sloops along the sides. Plus crud-launching is back due to crouching whilst getting into a cannon...
I dislike the armory change. I do disagree with your blunderbuss conclusion however. I dislike the current state of the blunder, but I also disliked the instant kill capability (this is coming from a dyed in the wool true blue double gunning tryhard) because it’s just a real buzz kill and instant death never feels good. I do think that the knock back is crazy and shouldn’t be allowed to remove sloopers from their boat entirely like it does.
Idk if you want to reduce knockback and keep our the one shot I would say give it a tighter pellet spread and reduce knockback. That way two taping is more consistent and you receive less knockback

lol could you imagine how much more amplified this would be (planning and weapon choice) if you were allowed to say, pay to lock your ammo box to just your crew using it?
In game as im writing this, the harpoon can grapple onto any part of the sloop (except the mast) Not just the ladder
However, from the water you cannot grapple onto the deck from anywhere, only the sides of the ship which will just drop you into the water again. I think it may be possible to shoot yourself from a cannon, then grapple onto the deck of the ship from above
edit: the canopy cannot be grappled, and the railing Infront of the steering wheel also cannot be grappled
Maybe it's for just your ship? If you havent tested it on other ships yet, I would
Edit: I just tested it, you can grapple to it, but it doesn't give you the jump. Grappling to it kinda just wastes a shot, unless the ship is stationary
As for the cannon idea, I doubt they let you use the grappling hook for that specific purpose
You can grapple onto a cannon and even both tables in the sloop captains room + the bird cadge, but not the captain room roof (but again you cant grapple to the top of it either)
Also, it's hard to HPG someone onto the ship from the water, as when we tried, they just bounced off the ship edge, similarly to if you just grapple yourself on the outer ship hull
Finally the ashen chest of legends get some love
okay, wont lie on one thing.
I agree and also think BB should never be a 1 shot kill.

Funny thing btw, crouching reduces the size of your hitbox! But it reduces the hitbox that are bullets affected by. So crouching might be another way to dodge bullets!
Unfortunately while parked next to a sloop I was able to grapple onto their ship behind map table from my ship
@@dricdroc4985 idk bro I want to play sea of thieves not Spider-Man
they added back quickswap(which is cool) and crud launch(alledgedly.
Well right now you trade firepower for nothing
Also, nobody mentioned this;
You can grapple down to the deck of a rival sloop from the surface of your own ship.
I think the army lock is good cause it forces people to make choices, also it allows future weapons to be balanced around this. Like we could finally have a heavy melee weapon like a hammer come to the game
Locking the Armoury is really annoying but wont stop angry players getting camped
I guess dmg breaks disquise, but why picking it up? It was the whole point, you sneak yourself somewhere, enemy players can pick you up and take you to their ship
2:35 … and everyone’s just gonna ignore this? 😂

I would not say it's OP but it's definitely underated for no apparent reason
But it hasn't even been released yet.
Would be cool if they told us what the new commendations are and what the big grinds are so we don't need to learn from YT.
I can do with or without blunderbuss one shot I just think either way they should reduce the spread… I’m tired of two tapping someone and them not dying because only one pellet hits due to the spread
2:40 ‘last about 4 seconds’ got a belly laugh out of me 😂
Small thing of note from the Release Notes:
Regular Storage Crates can now be sold at the Merchants & Reaper's Bones, either filled or empty.
@@Theprince034 pshhh Im constantly broke due to bein a solo playing captain who actually gets and upgrades ship trinkets + ship skins and clothing/weapon items and such. Plus, SoT isnt the only game I play (I cant only play 1-2 games and nothing else; thats boring) So yeah, even 5k can add up. But nah, I disagree. I used to get leftovers at least 2 out of 5 logins, if not more, before being able to buy supplies it seemed.
Agreed I would like it if you kept ammo from shots you missed and have it slight longer range@@ahmahti1334
This video is really helpful getting a lot of important information, I'm so glad they changed the harpoon to have specific conditions to hook onto ships.
I have some questions though
Can you be able to place traps on your ship, like next to the ladder?

Haha, man that harpoon gun is the drizzling, well ya know.
You ignore what the poison dart can do in PvP in a long run fight against food consumption and ammo.
Nothing poisoned guy will kill you with sniper and blunder and heal himself unless its sword user then maybe you win cuz they have no game sense
As a person that has been using the plow pipe constantly, don't be using the poison part of that gun, it's way more effective to spam explosives everywhere
I actually like the grapple gun and sword combo
I am glad about the grapple hooks sloop stuff
One thing i was looking forward too for the grapple gun was using em in shrines but when i tryed it in the Shrine of Hungering it didn't hook on to anything. Havent tryed to use it in the other shrines yet tho.
To be fair that defeats the entire purpose of the shrine, I don’t see any problem with them being disabled in there
Love the sword from the new COF rewards, but it's still killing me that there's somehow NO jacket for the Fates of Fortune set. I am NOT wearing the dress.
The Lure dart is all right only it seems there's a chance that they just ignore it and keep chasing you
"sounds a bit like me actually" 💀💀💀💀💀
grapple gun has knocked the balance out. any half decent gally or brig crew against a good sloop crew will now highly likely board. they can now miss a board by quite abit and still board. bring back one blunder and make the sloop the quickest boat in all directions. sloops dominate the servers numbers wise..so sloop on sloop won't matter. but agaisnt larger crews who hold every other advantage possible it's a game changer

The locked armory is actually more beneficial than it is detrimental.
Because if this thing allowed you to easily grapple on a ship, then you could switch it out in the enemy armory it would have been mega annoying to deal with
The servers aren't even up yet though
