Thanks for this video. As a Trini living in the UK since I was 7, I really loved seeing the perspective of carnival from a non-Trini. I really enjoy watching your videos.❤
Bravo! Great video. I miss T’dad and the carnival. You are correct there is so much that goes on to planning, designing and constructing such intricate costumes. And the music just sucks you in! Can’t help but vibrate to the beat. I’m so glad you enjoyed it and…stayed hydrated. ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed the video AJ! We did stay hydrated but sunscreen was another story 😅 This year's main Soca tune was DNA by Mical Teja. By the end of the day we could just about sing the whole song!
Those firey costumes are so beautiful and dignified! 😍😍 So lovely to see you away from the boat making the most of Trinidad but guess this means your warrantys woes are still going - hoping to see you sailing soon 🙏🙏⛵️
Those were some of my favourites too! Warranty is ongoing which is very disappointing as the Caribbean season is already half over. It's hard but we try to stay positive - every day is one step closer to the end ⛵
i honestly really hope you stay or atleast come back for next year carnival and take part atleast in a juvert band the energy is amazing its something you simply must experience when coming to trinidad
The creativity is great , the costumes are pretty , the vibes is good , it's just that the numbers seem smaller . Some bands used to stretch for far distances ,and filled the street and stage from end to end . The sight used to be awesome, with the pretty colours of the costumes and multitude of people in the bands , it used to be a sight to behold . I remember some of the big bands took quite a long time to cross the stage . I don't know , but it could be that the costumes have become too expensive .
Agreed, I remember watching as a kid and the bands were filled with masqueraders. I personally think average citizens are being priced out of Carnival, it is truly too expensive. I'm coming home to play next year and have already been doing research on bands and I'm amazed at the insane prices. I will be choosing a small band as Tribe and the likes are to overrated and expensive where as smaller bands are giving wonderful costumes at much more affordable prices.
As of last year there has been an evolution of mas in the small towns in Trinidad like Couva, Sangre Grande and Tunapuna just to name a few. A lot of locals are now playing mas closer to home as its much cheaper and easier for families to take part and spectate. Mas in POS is now more than ever foreigner based plus there is also an increase in the bands participating in POS mas
It all depends on which band you play mas with! Some make it themselves while others hire a company or the band provides them as part of an all-inclusive package.
No! .....its not a daytime event. Its depends on whether its the actual "end" = Ash Wednesday; then everything is shut down at midnight for Lent. The carnival season actually starts during December and pretty much everyday starting in January until Ash Wednesday is crazy.
If it wasn't 100% clear, that comment was only about Mas Parade in Port of Spain on Shrove Tuesday which was the focus of this video, deffs not about the rest of the Carnival period 😊 We were here throughout and I can confirm there were boat fetes in Chaguaramas almost every night until the early hours - sometimes you could hear the music before you could see the boat 😂
That is so interesting to read - we did expect to see more people on the streets but thought that maybe it was because of the timing of bands travelling around the parade route and possibly the event still recovering after a few years break. We were there for about 4-5 hours and this footage covers everyone we saw in that time. It was still great to experience it for ourselves - I wonder what next year will be like :)
Glad to see you are enjoying something at least after the nightmare your boat has caused you. John Lawson recently put up a video explaining his dealings with Marsaudon Composites and his Marsaudon ORC42. I would plead that you watch his video and both personally and through your audience reach out to John. I know you three have been through a heartbreaking experience with your boat, his is worse. He no longer has his 2yo boat. Its better he explains in his video. I beg you at least watch his video. ( just search his name on youtube search ). Fucking heartbreaking.
We actually watched his video last night and what has happened to him... there are barely any words to describe how disgraceful the entire situation is from start to finish. We hope the public pressure resulting from him sharing his story helps because in this instance the legal system has utterly failed.
Your video did an injustice to Trinidad Carnival 🇹🇹 due to the Fact you did not use the Music indigenous to Trinidad and Tobago that is directly responsible for all the Carnivals in the First world Nation.. SOCA music is the driving force behind Nottingham Carnival in London.. Labor Day Carnival in New York.. Caribana in Canada… and all the Islands that now have a Carnival…
As I said in the description I would have loved to use more of the orginal audio but due to copyright restrictions was limited in what I could do without recieving a UA-cam policy strike against our channel. I spent 3hrs trying to find royaty free Soca music but it is such a niche genre that most audio libraries don't have true Soca which is such a pity. I can only do my best within what UA-cam allows, and I understand why they do it as it helps protect the work of artists like Machel Montano and Mical Teja. Luckily the Shorts and Reels formats let me do it so I was able to use Soca for those videos! 😊

Capelton playing mass at minute 5:15. hahaha
Whoa! So amazing! When you all come to visit, I am giving you so much cider!
Sounds like a plan 👌😁

Which band you played with?
I didn't join one this year but if we're here for Carnival again I want to! Which bands do you like?
Who makes the costumes?? 5:09 ❤❤

North stand and grand stands are half empty ,bands are getting smaller because it is very expensive for the natives to take part in the celebration .
ALVIN KALICHARAN IS THE CRICKETER.
The bands in times gone used to be thousands of people , not what i am seeing here .
Trinidad carnival is not the spectackle it used to be .

I remember the Mighty Sparrow and Black Stalin as they battled in front of judges!

@@travelsketch Thank you for this, in this kind of situation community is everything, even simply knowing "i am not alone" can be such a huge help.
CORRECTION TO LAST POST, IVAN KALICHARAN ASSOCIATED WITH SAN FERNANDO CARNIVAL NOT ALVIN KALICHARAN.
Sorry I can't see your first post so I'm not sure what you mean, but I'd like to know? 😊
Carnival is being killed off in tnt...
Why u say that?

Socadrome waste of time
The music you are using in the video is distasteful ruined the video
