At 03:20 that is not Hedda hopper playing David's mother. It is Julia Swayne Gordon, an actress born in 1878; she started in films in 1905 and continued until her death in 1933. Hedda Hopper played Jack's mother in an uncredited role where she is seen only briefly in the backseat of the car as Jack leaves for training camp.
