    I'm a head track coach in high school. She's getting good coaching. Keep training she has a good foundation.

    I went to a throwing camp over this past summer. Up in Rhode Island. I learned more about the discus and Javelin. In my sophomore year my personal record was only 82.5 feet because of the camp and because of me practicing by myself after school with no coaching. My new personal record is 108 feet roughly. I've gained almost 30 feet. I can't wait for this season.

    Nice progress! You can really see how the athlete is thinking about throwing technique herself and not just whining if something doesn't work. That's why she is progressing 👍🏻💪🏻

    Thanks for sharing Reanna's journey.
    My 9 y.o daughter is throwing and learning - I'm doing coaching courses to learn too. She's gone off the rails a bit, trying to do too much at once, so we spent a morning watching UA-cam videos to refocus and your video came up.

      spud man Extremely late reply, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re off balance. You could just be opening up too early.

    • @BigSkyCurmudgeon
      @BigSkyCurmudgeon 3 роки тому

      @@BigMac8008 yes! opening up to soon, or as i call it. not staying back with the discus. she has a penchat for dipping left shoulder into center and yanking the left arm to make the turn. when that left arm goes crazy, the right arm does too. by the time its time to throw, her throwing arc of the discus is down to about 150% and her left foot has no time to get to the front. she ends up trying to arm toss the discus across her body---result is a clanger or sector foul

    Thank you Coach Torie and Reanna for putting this together so my new throwers can see the dedication it takes to become a Great thrower! My athletes can see the progress and that work needs to be done outside of practice. It is good to see a High School athlete and not some Olympian ...brings it all into perspective. You have to pick your feet up, and drive when coming from the back of the ring, the more you wait to settle- the more you’ll slow down, she needs to drop down when in a power position.

    I'm not much of an expert but I've been doing a lot of research and I recently learned how to throw a discus so you can't take my word for that much. I know that she needs a better blocking foot or strong, but other than that the technique is pretty good but there is always room for improvement on technique but it's good from all the research I've done. Again I'm not much of an expert so don't take my word for it

    I'm a high school shot-put and discus thrower myself... I'm watching all of these form videos, and practice 6 times a week, but I'm not seeing much improvement. Do you have any tips that could help me? I'm only a freshmen, but I know I have so much potential and desire to throw in college.

    • @davidwurstmusic
      @davidwurstmusic  7 років тому +1

      Hey Alea I'm happy to see so much enthusiasm in such a young athlete like yourself! As you may have seen in the video I had a tremendous coach who taught me how to effectively throw the disc and I'd encourage you to seek someone like that as well, especially if you are going to seriously pursue throwing in college. Also, if you are not already doing so try to get a routine lifting schedule, which is also something a trainer or coach could help you with. My coach mentioned that lifting can seriously improve your marks after you have dialed in your form. I'm not sure what position you throw in discus, but as far as the power position here are several tips. The first thing to remember is to snap the left heel down so that the right can come up. Lastly, when coming around with both arms be sure to pull back on your left arm aggressively and finish with your right to complete your throw. I hope this helped and I wish you well! If you have anymore questions I will try my best to help! :) -Reanna Wurst

    Watch a lot of films of Perkovic and copy her style as close as is possible and release velocity. Learn the Olympic lifts speed squats and speed pulls and you will be on your way. Throwing is about maximum controlled velocity.

      It’s mostly the power position that matters the spin can be slow

    • @BigSkyCurmudgeon
      @BigSkyCurmudgeon 3 роки тому

      @ak_hailey so utterly incorrect, the spin should only aid in the transfer of power from the legs up thru the chest muscles into the arm. if the spin is not correct or done too fast, the positions will not be attained, and slow down or even eliminate any momentum and force put upon the discus.
