The fact Akainu is so hated people began to downplay him shows how well Oda wrote him as a villain. This is the only man to break the main character's will and permanently change his appearance. He may not be the most significant/final villain but he is undeniably the villain to leave the biggest impact on Luffy and Oda won't disappoint in resolving that.

And this is what no mugiwara enemy could do to Luffy, either before akainu or after.
i think from a narrative perspective, people need to understand that if akainu gets mid diffed or low diffed by yonko, then literally what is the point of having a fleet admiral or an admiral? if the difference between the top tiers of the navy and the yonko are that vast then why hasn't the navy been taken out? people let their own hatred for akainu cloud their judgement. akainu was giving everyone smoke during marineford. sure, whitebeard was old and sick, but at the end of the day, a sick whitebeard is still a yonko. and not only that, akainu fought pretty much all of the commanders and crocodile, and he came out perfectly okay. nothing of what whitebeard or his commanders did could put akainu down and out.
Well I do think Fleet Admiral and Yonko are reletive in power but the fact is Marines top tiers fight together while Yonko fights against Marines as well as the other Yonko. If all 4 Yonko fights togather (which they'll never) then that's the end of Marines. I already expected or though about WG to have another fraction of power if Marines ever got taken out in the off case Yonko team up. I believed Gorosei have to be fighters as well. But now after listening about God knights I think they have enough defenses for themselves.

I don't think that's the end of Marines. They got world gov and gorosei backing them up too. Even yonkou and revolutionary army combined will have a hard time. The Marines and world gov ARE THE WHOLE WORLD basically. Few yonkou with a few islands isnt gonna beat the whole world. I think each admiral is a relative match to each yonkou, or at least the original 3. The warlords(and extra admirals) were meant to help counter the commanders and other lower but still annoying pirates.
I'm really curious about Akainu's hat. I have a theory that his hat was given to him by whoever inspired him to become a marine, just like Shanks gave the strawhat to Luffy. Something may have happen to his hometown, most likely by pirates, and there were some marines there trying to protect the hometown, however they weren't strong enough and the pirates ended up destroying his hometown, plundered everything, and left. Whoever gave him the hat could've been marine relative, or someone he admired, and in his dying breath, he gave Akainu that hat. Which is probably why he never takes it off. It probably holds really great significance to him, just like the strawhat holds great significance to Luffy

Think u brought up a very underrated feat when Blackbeard was scared of engaging Kuzan even though he had members of his crew with him vs just one guy. Also makes it clear that Blackbeard running away from Akainu is very consistent in a scaling sense.
That is true however I would say that it is important that he met Kuzan later on in the timeskip as Kuzan had his battle injuries so it is possible Blackbeard got stronger as was not as scared of the admirals anymore

To me at least it was more Kuzan wanting to work with BB for his own goals than work under him, his interactions with Garp and the Marines also support that. I don't even wanna go into if he is stronger or as strong as BB like I said its more about the narrative that makes me think that Kuzan doesn't rly see himself as a follower of BB but rather going along with what he does as long as it suits him, rdy to turn on him at any moment. Back in the day I believed theories that, for example, Garp could easily kill Akainu. But now that I think back to it, Whitebeard was matched with both Akainu and Kizaru- Kizaru was nearly completely unharmed and managed to land some strong blows on WB, while Akainu did so much damage it pretty much ensured WB's death before being knocked to the ground- but neither knocked out, nor taken out of equation for long, just wounded. Neither of these confrontations suggested an insane difference in strenght, in fact they both looked like Yonko and Admirals are practically matched. So even back in Marineford, admirals were nearly if not equally on par with a Yonko. I refuse to believe the strongest of them three isn't above yonko level.
Great breakdown of Akainu's feats. A lot of people usually go under the assumption that the scaling in OP goes Commanders < Admirals < Yonko; being based off the fact that Marineford featured 3 admirals vs. one Yonko. The fact is that each ORIGINAL admiral would give each ORIGINAL Yonko a high-extreme diff fight that could go either way. Kidd and Law took down Big Mom, however you could make an argument that Kidd and Law would lose to Kuzan, who is a much more seasoned fighter than Big Mom. (Yes BM was apart of the ROCKS group, but for decades she's been depcited as a sitting duck in her territory eating confections all day.) As it stands, the opponents Luffy will have to face in the future will end up being at the level of Big Mom and Kaido, given that the series is in the final saga. Akainu by the time he confronts Luffy (which he will 100%), will be on par with Kaido; no debate.
To go on a tangent, Big mom is probably a shadow of her former self. Remember, Kaido didn't even bat an eyelid at just unchaining her. Which means he was absolutely confident that not only was she weaker than him at that point, she wouldn't have caused too much damage to his base...

While WB was _heavily_ nerfed, I don't see how someone - and I'm not claiming you have done this - can read/watch the Marineford arc and conclude that Yonko > Admirals, when they're relative in strength. *Admirals vs WB at Marineford:* 1) Aokiji froze WB for a few moments, prompting Jozu to catch Aokiji with a sneak attack. 2) Kizaru wasn't touched be WB and got a few free hits in before Marco jumped in. 3) Akainu beat the absolute _brakes_ off WB (especially smashing of part of WB's face in the manga) to the point that WB's only clean hit - while extremely strong - was only landed while *Akainu had his back turned.* And even after eating that huge hit, Akainu took on almost all of WB's Commanders + Ivankov solo (he even mocked Vista and Marco - who are strong in their own right - of not having haki stronf enough to hurt him).

Akainu is stated to be the world strongest marine in data books if I can recall.This makes him stronger than prime garp. Its just that the community hates him so much due to his masterful donut baking that they heavily downplay his feats.

People seem to always downplaying The Admirals. They always make petty excuse to justify that Yonko are more stronger that Admirals, and one of them is that; If The Admirals Are Stronger That Yonko! Why They Don't Attack The Yonko!? The simplest answer is Politics. As long as the Yonkors do not interfere in government affairs, the Gorosei and Admirals will have no reason to persecute them. It is obvious that The Admirals are on the same level as the Yonkor or are more powerful than them. Of course, not all Admirals are at the same levels. Green Bull is new and prefers the easier path and decides to turn around when Shank shows up. But Kizaru, Aokiji and Akainu are obviously the strongest because Akainu is their leader, and none of them show fear when facing The Yonkos and their Crews. And after Timeskip it's obvious that both Aokiji and Akainu became stronger, I mean, Aokiji easily defeated the Blackbeard Pirates and strike fear on Blackbeard even though Blackbeard has two Devil Fruits, and Aokiji easily defeated Big Mom Crew. So it's obvious that both Aokiji and Akainu have gotte stronger as Kizaru is probably getting stronger as well and judging by Egghead Isla Arc, Gear 5 Luffy took him by surprise as Kizaru was more focused on Vegank Punk than in fighting Luffy.
I think Akainus big final saga fight will be against Dragon. The leader of the Marines vs the leader of the Revolutionaries. Oda has really positioned himself well, because for many characters like Mihawk, Dragon, Akainu and Blackbeard he can kinda make them as strong as he needs them to be. For instance he can give them Advanced Conquerors Haki, because he never denied they didn't have it. But, yes Akainu has the devil fruit with the most AP, the dog-like mentality, the endurance to fight for 10 days straight, he has already shown some form of advanced Armament and Observation. He will most definitely get ACoc confirmed now that it is an established abilitiy. He has also shown great durability and Oda can just make him as durable as the story requires. I have him at number 4-6 right now. Settled on number 5 for now in the current verse.
The Revs have made it clear that their target aren’t the world government but the ones in charge so idk how and why Dragon would feel to need to face Akainu imo.
@@zagessj I felt some history between Akainu and Dragon in Marineford. Akainu was obsessed with Luffy and was constantly refeering to him as Dragons son and nothing else. They are also around the same age range. So if it gets revealed that Dragon started of in the Marines and then quit due to reasons, than it gives the match up even more of a chance. Also The Marines, especially the Admirals are still the WGs main fighting force. Also I don't think Luffy vs Akainu will be a Kaido style long fight. Luffy has Blackbeard and Imu to fight. I think Shanks will fight Garling, due to him being family, Dragon vs Akainu. But of course this is a lot of headcannon. I guess we will see.
Akainu Pre timeskip was already Yonko level. He simply wasn’t able to go all out and only lost that exchange against WB because of Oda giving the fans satisfaction for Ace death. That’s why he let WB sneak attack him instead of fighting him straight on because when wb did that Akainu handled him easily. Other than that sneak attack Akainu literally solod an entire Yonko crew. Pre timeskip Akainu is one of the most underrated characters of all time, and post timeskip there is no doubt in my mind that he is among the strongest ever surpassing Prime Garp since he has to be a stronger enemy for Luffy than Garp was for Roger. Otherwise the story doesn’t make sense.

Everyone is going to be stronger than the previous gen bro. And Garp has no devil fruits or anything, just his will. That makes him the GOAT if you compare both new and old eos. Since the new generation relies a lot on fruits, powers, etc. (Blackbeard had to have 3 fruits just to make it), It reminds me of our gen with the old one now that I am thinking of it. Old times were raw. Now our gen need extra sauce. Also, I believe the modern mirroring of "Garp's character" is going to be Coby. (Storywise and not power)

I don’t know why people think the marines would be weaker in an era where there are more pirates than ever. It makes no sense for the marine top tiers of today to be far weaker than the old gen marines like Sengoku and Garp. At the end of the day Oda stated Akainu was the strongest marine in history a couple of years ago. People like to say this was not true but at the end of the day that is just fandom refusal to believe author notes.
Sakazuki will almost undoubtedly be a more dangerous, more deadly, & more difficult/challenging opponent to fight against than even Kaido or BM I honestly believe. It only makes sense for it to be like that by the time we get to the ending final war/battle. The narrative simply dictates it to be so. Akainu will be a monster like non other, & be more deadly than anyone else.

Squado did stab him but Whitebeard said it didn’t hurt him (ch572). It wasn’t a serious injury that would nerf his power so the feats from the Admirals at that point are still valid.
You’re referring to the vivre card translated by Artur and that’s just his input it’s not stated in the raw scan. I wasn’t even sourcing that vivre card statement in the vid but it’s been stated many times throughout the years that WB can destroy the world.
Once again another person has misunderstood the akainu protag statement. It doesnt mean that he's the strongest character, it instead suggests that because a protagonist gets many insane buffs throughout the series (such as luffy with his weak gum gum fruit becoming comparable to a literal dragon) if these buffs were applied to someone as innately strong as akainu with a busted fruit from the get go, then he would outgrow everyone else within a year.

7:40 great video, and i hate to nitpick, but we're battleboarding so that's the name of the game. whitebeard doesn't take akainu by surprise here. it's not fair to say that's by surprise, the big mfr just smacked him over there, ofc he's gonna followup. akainu's major weakness is speed. almost every time he gets a major attack in, someone is off-guard. whitebeard's heart attack is being caught off guard, or luffy on the ground those are people i would consider "caught unawares" as it were. i'm not saying akainu isn't him. i'm just saying in this one instance and during most of their fight, akainu is the only one pulling cheap shots, not wb. if i knock you down and wail on you, that's not an ambush but an attack strategy. if you get knocked down from something unrelated to our fight and i wail on you, then yeah you could consider that involving the element of surprise. either way it's a negative in the reaction speed department for hotdog
I see where you’re coming from however if you look at the previous page, Akainu was having a face off with Marco (look at the bottom right panel as well you can see they’re still facing off) and that’s when Whitebeard intervened so it’d still be Akainu getting caught off guard. The moments in which Akainu is intercepted is when he’s attacking Luffy which I wouldn’t assume he’s using his full speed to charge at him when he can easily react to Marco’s attack. I don’t think he has a speed problem at all.

i personally believe Akainu will be as strong if not stronger than Garp. Him being weak makes no sense as one of the biggest villans/threats to not only the strawhats, but to the pirates in general. One of the biggest misconceptions in One Piece is that Whitebeard caught Akainu off guard just becase it was not shown in the manga. You should know that manga cannot cover every single scene since it would take too much time, that what the anime is for. Whitebeard did not have the speed at that time to catch anyone off guard. The fact Akainu is so hated people began to downplay him shows how well Oda wrote him as a villain. This is the only man to break the main character's will and permanently change his appearance. He may not be the most significant/final villain but he is undeniably the villain to leave the biggest impact on Luffy and Oda won't disappoint in resolving that.

i think from a narrative perspective, people need to understand that if akainu gets mid diffed or low diffed by yonko, then literally what is the point of having a fleet admiral or an admiral? if the difference between the top tiers of the navy and the yonko are that vast then why hasn't the navy been taken out? people let their own hatred for akainu cloud their judgement. akainu was giving everyone smoke during marineford. sure, whitebeard was old and sick, but at the end of the day, a sick whitebeard is still a yonko. and not only that, akainu fought pretty much all of the commanders and crocodile, and he came out perfectly okay. nothing of what whitebeard or his commanders did could put akainu down and out.

I think each admiral is a relative match to each yonkou, or at least the original 3. The warlords(and extra admirals) were meant to help counter the commanders and other lower but still annoying pirates.
I'm really curious about Akainu's hat. I have a theory that his hat was given to him by whoever inspired him to become a marine, just like Shanks gave the strawhat to Luffy. Something may have happen to his hometown, most likely by pirates, and there were some marines there trying to protect the hometown, however they weren't strong enough and the pirates ended up destroying his hometown, plundered everything, and left. Whoever gave him the hat could've been marine relative, or someone he admired, and in his dying breath, he gave Akainu that hat. Which is probably why he never takes it off. It probably holds really great significance to him, just like the strawhat holds great significance to Luffy

Think u brought up a very underrated feat when Blackbeard was scared of engaging Kuzan even though he had members of his crew with him vs just one guy. Also makes it clear that Blackbeard running away from Akainu is very consistent in a scaling sense.
That is true however I would say that it is important that he met Kuzan later on in the timeskip as Kuzan had his battle injuries so it is possible Blackbeard got stronger as was not as scared of the admirals anymore

Back in the day I believed theories that, for example, Garp could easily kill Akainu.
But now that I think back to it, Whitebeard was matched with both Akainu and Kizaru- Kizaru was nearly completely unharmed and managed to land some strong blows on WB, while Akainu did so much damage it pretty much ensured WB's death before being knocked to the ground- but neither knocked out, nor taken out of equation for long, just wounded. Neither of these confrontations suggested an insane difference in strenght, in fact they both looked like Yonko and Admirals are practically matched.
So even back in Marineford, admirals were nearly if not equally on par with a Yonko. I refuse to believe the strongest of them three isn't above yonko level.
Great breakdown of Akainu's feats. A lot of people usually go under the assumption that the scaling in OP goes Commanders < Admirals < Yonko; being based off the fact that Marineford featured 3 admirals vs. one Yonko. The fact is that each ORIGINAL admiral would give each ORIGINAL Yonko a high-extreme diff fight that could go either way. Kidd and Law took down Big Mom, however you could make an argument that Kidd and Law would lose to Kuzan, who is a much more seasoned fighter than Big Mom. (Yes BM was apart of the ROCKS group, but for decades she's been depcited as a sitting duck in her territory eating confections all day.) As it stands, the opponents Luffy will have to face in the future will end up being at the level of Big Mom and Kaido, given that the series is in the final saga. Akainu by the time he confronts Luffy (which he will 100%), will be on par with Kaido; no debate.
To go on a tangent, Big mom is probably a shadow of her former self. Remember, Kaido didn't even bat an eyelid at just unchaining her. Which means he was absolutely confident that not only was she weaker than him at that point, she wouldn't have caused too much damage to his base...

While WB was _heavily_ nerfed, I don't see how someone - and I'm not claiming you have done this - can read/watch the Marineford arc and conclude that Yonko > Admirals, when they're relative in strength.
*Admirals vs WB at Marineford:*
1) Aokiji froze WB for a few moments, prompting Jozu to catch Aokiji with a sneak attack.
2) Kizaru wasn't touched be WB and got a few free hits in before Marco jumped in.
3) Akainu beat the absolute _brakes_ off WB (especially smashing of part of WB's face in the manga) to the point that WB's only clean hit - while extremely strong - was only landed while *Akainu had his back turned.* And even after eating that huge hit, Akainu took on almost all of WB's Commanders + Ivankov solo (he even mocked Vista and Marco - who are strong in their own right - of not having haki stronf enough to hurt him).

They always make petty excuse to justify that Yonko are more stronger that Admirals, and one of them is that; If The Admirals Are Stronger That Yonko! Why They Don't Attack The Yonko!? The simplest answer is Politics. As long as the Yonkors do not interfere in government affairs, the Gorosei and Admirals will have no reason to persecute them. It is obvious that The Admirals are on the same level as the Yonkor or are more powerful than them. Of course, not all Admirals are at the same levels. Green Bull is new and prefers the easier path and decides to turn around when Shank shows up. But Kizaru, Aokiji and Akainu are obviously the strongest because Akainu is their leader, and none of them show fear when facing The Yonkos and their Crews.
And after Timeskip it's obvious that both Aokiji and Akainu became stronger, I mean, Aokiji easily defeated the Blackbeard Pirates and strike fear on Blackbeard even though Blackbeard has two Devil Fruits, and Aokiji easily defeated Big Mom Crew. So it's obvious that both Aokiji and Akainu have gotte stronger as Kizaru is probably getting stronger as well and judging by Egghead Isla Arc, Gear 5 Luffy took him by surprise as Kizaru was more focused on Vegank Punk than in fighting Luffy.

I think Akainus big final saga fight will be against Dragon. The leader of the Marines vs the leader of the Revolutionaries. Oda has really positioned himself well, because for many characters like Mihawk, Dragon, Akainu and Blackbeard he can kinda make them as strong as he needs them to be. For instance he can give them Advanced Conquerors Haki, because he never denied they didn't have it. But, yes Akainu has the devil fruit with the most AP, the dog-like mentality, the endurance to fight for 10 days straight, he has already shown some form of advanced Armament and Observation. He will most definitely get ACoc confirmed now that it is an established abilitiy. He has also shown great durability and Oda can just make him as durable as the story requires. I have him at number 4-6 right now. Settled on number 5 for now in the current verse.
The Revs have made it clear that their target aren’t the world government but the ones in charge so idk how and why Dragon would feel to need to face Akainu imo.
@@zagessj I felt some history between Akainu and Dragon in Marineford. Akainu was obsessed with Luffy and was constantly refeering to him as Dragons son and nothing else. They are also around the same age range. So if it gets revealed that Dragon started of in the Marines and then quit due to reasons, than it gives the match up even more of a chance. Also The Marines, especially the Admirals are still the WGs main fighting force. Also I don't think Luffy vs Akainu will be a Kaido style long fight. Luffy has Blackbeard and Imu to fight. I think Shanks will fight Garling, due to him being family, Dragon vs Akainu. But of course this is a lot of headcannon. I guess we will see.

Akainu Pre timeskip was already Yonko level. He simply wasn’t able to go all out and only lost that exchange against WB because of Oda giving the fans satisfaction for Ace death. That’s why he let WB sneak attack him instead of fighting him straight on because when wb did that Akainu handled him easily. Other than that sneak attack Akainu literally solod an entire Yonko crew.
Pre timeskip Akainu is one of the most underrated characters of all time, and post timeskip there is no doubt in my mind that he is among the strongest ever surpassing Prime Garp since he has to be a stronger enemy for Luffy than Garp was for Roger. Otherwise the story doesn’t make sense.

I don’t know why people think the marines would be weaker in an era where there are more pirates than ever. It makes no sense for the marine top tiers of today to be far weaker than the old gen marines like Sengoku and Garp.
At the end of the day Oda stated Akainu was the strongest marine in history a couple of years ago. People like to say this was not true but at the end of the day that is just fandom refusal to believe author notes.

Sakazuki will almost undoubtedly be a more dangerous, more deadly, & more difficult/challenging opponent to fight against than even Kaido or BM I honestly believe. It only makes sense for it to be like that by the time we get to the ending final war/battle. The narrative simply dictates it to be so. Akainu will be a monster like non other, & be more deadly than anyone else.

Once again another person has misunderstood the akainu protag statement.
It doesnt mean that he's the strongest character, it instead suggests that because a protagonist gets many insane buffs throughout the series (such as luffy with his weak gum gum fruit becoming comparable to a literal dragon) if these buffs were applied to someone as innately strong as akainu with a busted fruit from the get go, then he would outgrow everyone else within a year.

I see where you’re coming from however if you look at the previous page, Akainu was having a face off with Marco (look at the bottom right panel as well you can see they’re still facing off) and that’s when Whitebeard intervened so it’d still be Akainu getting caught off guard. The moments in which Akainu is intercepted is when he’s attacking Luffy which I wouldn’t assume he’s using his full speed to charge at him when he can easily react to Marco’s attack. I don’t think he has a speed problem at all.

One of the biggest misconceptions in One Piece is that Whitebeard caught Akainu off guard just becase it was not shown in the manga. You should know that manga cannot cover every single scene since it would take too much time, that what the anime is for. Whitebeard did not have the speed at that time to catch anyone off guard. Its like if I were to tell you when Jozu through the giant bolder, in the manga its not shown how he smashed the ground amd created the boulder, in the manga he just grabs it like it was a present from Aokiji.
